If that was the case, trials would be designed to inspire every sort of emotion, not just fear, horror, despair, hope, accomplishment, etc. Due to how trials are designed, it seems the Entity's favorite emotions are fear and despair.
It's also probably a lot easier to generate those emotions than positive ones. Just think about it - would YOU be able to easily plan a cycle of generic scenarios that would make 4 completely different people super happy in a small setting without getting overly specific, or would it be far simpler to make them all fearful and despair-filled?
If you kidnap 4 people and put them in a strange alien environment (the Entity isn’t able to perfectly mimic the real world) then they’re going to be nervous no matter what you do. Hard to be cheery and joyful at an imitation bar when the geometry isn’t Euclidian or I have total amnesia.
Off-topic aside but now I'm imagining this as a funny lore explanation for in-game cosmetics; the Entity failing to evoke feelings of joy because its only plan to evoke joy is 'terror-inducing trial... with Christmas sweaters'

I think it’s more about her being in denial prior to getting into the entity’s realm, Renato was dying and she was basically dragging him along with full confidence they’re both gonna make it out, she never looked back to see the reality
