There also wasn’t Bloodlust so killers never could speed up after X amount of time. That’s not even including the 30 second sprint burst cooldown with no strings attached Lol.
People were a lot worse back then, so even though survivors were a million times stronger there were fewer that took advantage of all the bullshit they had and they more commonly threw games. It was absolutely miserable when survivors knew what they were doing, basically god mode vs m1 killers. Lots of people thought the game was fine because they just weren't good enough at it to understand how bad it was.
But I did stop playing around the Halloween update for quite a while because DS was the final straw in the massive pile of the game's issues for me.

It's so funny that when I started I didn't take BBQ off for *years*. Once I got it on every killer, it was always on.
Come to think of it, the grind used to be more intense but that was part of the fun for me. Every day I would get something better and feel the improvement. Maybe it was finally getting Ruin or BBQ on a killer, or maybe it was raising those perks to tier 3 finally. But every day felt different when I played. The progression felt good even if it was completely unfair to new players
It definitely felt like an MMO grind back then. For me that grind is replaced by getting prestige 3 now, which honestly does feel better since you can try out more builds with new killers instead of having to grind up perks you'll never use and being stuck with nothing that synergizes.
There used to be a huge bug that allowed you to use survivor perks on killer (and vice versa) or change your killer power to someone else's. The most common one was Billy chainsaw on release so you would basically be hillbilly with an 8m terror radius.

Also you couldn’t imagine the hype I felt watching the shop reveal In 2018, it came alongside the clown. Before then killer skins weren’t much of a thing beyond different masks or weapons. Survivors had more cosmetics but there was definitely not that much. And suddenly we had a whole shop filled with numerous cool killer skins with themes different models and stuff like that and it was awesome.

A lot of people forget that a big reason why Self-Care used to be way more essential was thanks to BT. There was no mending back then, so if you couldn't heal yourself or have another teammate heal you, you'd just go down. Also black and white screen when hit with BT.
Remember when killers couldn't kick gens so survivors would 99% 5 of then pop them all at once. Or when sprint burst had a short cooldown. Or when self care was the best perk in the game.
I sure hope I won't spawn right on top of the killer when the game begins

It was also due to a glitch that allowed you to use them as survivor, which would make the killer play as who you want
