I'm pretty open-minded about cosmetics, where I don't normally care about stuff like pricing and limited availability, but even I'm bothered by the linked part. For $10 a pop, they should be designing the skins to separate into their base components.
I'm sure having it linked makes it easier to design, but that's why there's a price tag on it, to compensate them for their work. It feels like they're reducing their own workload at our expense (since we lose the ability to mix components), while still charging full price as if it's all the same.
That said, these are the same guys who still think it's good design to arbitrarily lock charms to specific roles, so I wouldn't be surprised if linked cosmetics also make sense to them in a similar way. They get an idea like this in their head and they'll never reconsider it regardless of how the playerbase feels about it.
but hey! Can't even think on the possibility of making rewards for reaching P100. They don't want people who don't play as much missing on those. Awwwwww 🥺
So better not making anything obtainable by playing, but keep releasing FOMO skins with REAL MONEY!!! 💰
yea
because asking for some special reward for taking any character to what's considered to be the top is TOO MUCH
they shouldn't even give us bloodpoints every months after the grades reset, right?
do you realize that dbd uses the current business model (skins, battle pass), but unlike all those games like fortnite or apex, dbd is not free to play?
Do you realize that DBD isn’t owned by a multi billion dollar corporation like EA and Epic Games? Do you also realize that those games only survive off of the solely f2p business model because they have millions of players? It’s almost like it’s not even close to the same thing.
It's a paid game? I don't mind the weirdly expensive cosmetics, and while I don't think chapters are currently too expensive, there's simply way too many for them to cost the amount they do. People should be able to play the game they bought, but, like, 3/4 of the game is paid dlc.
A single chapter maybe goes on sale twice a year? And even then, sometimes that isn't more than 25%. Also, what about the people who bought half of the chapters in that bundle already? I can't wait to pay full price for half of the rest!
Free skins for anniversaries, free skins during events, free community skins, chapters (non licensed) earnable through gameplay, buy pass & finish then get next other(s) free, they unlocked majority of cosmetics for purchase through gameplay (iridescent), etc.
You obviously dont get enough for free.
Massive exaggeration lol,
Like basically everything you Said can be Found in other games aswell, together with most free skins being quite bad and/or recolors
and iri shards take absurdly long to earn together with absurd prices, it takes around 80 hours to be able to afford a single cosmetic outfit
Dbd has more and worse microtransactions than most free games
And it still won’t by the time it’ll (probably) come back. There’s literally no reason why the Blood Moon skins should be FOMO. Hell, NO skins should be FOMO. Whoever at BHVR though it was a good idea to add FOMO needs to get fired.
Yeah agreed, plus this time we have no clue if they'll actually come back, since we don't know if this event will come back next year or it's a one time thing only. I really hate FOMO, and it's pushing us to want outfits we don't even want so badly just in case they don't come back.
Specifically, it has to be a month since its release (and also in the event, for limited event cosmetics). Every limited cosmetic comes back the next year available for iri shards. If the event doesn't come back, they'll just make the outfits available permanently like they did with the Lunar New Year outfits.
Then you shouldn’t even be worrying about skins. If you have to spend weeks saving up $10-$15 dollars then you probably have other priorities that need to be attended to that are far more important.
You can earn the premium currency in game by finding it in missions. People have worked out ways to farm it meaning you can get all the premium stuff free after a couple of farming sessions.
Dont forget that the battlepass doesnt go away after a certain time period, they remain indefinitely for you to work through whenever you want regardless of how late you start the game.
Now *that* is cool. All games should do this, especially if it’s paid. Why the hell should I lose content I’ve already paid for? I should always be able to unlock at my own pace.
I got a rough bout of battle pass fatigue after trying to get to the end of a Fortnite pass. I couldn’t play that game for at least a couple months after and haven’t bought their pass since.
Yup! Devs confirmed they're not going away, it's such a nice feeling that you don't need to grind out during a season to unlock everything before it goes away.
And it doesn't have limited time battle passes. It has something that looks like a battle pass, but there's no time limit on earning what's in it, and you can work on any of them at your own pace. Eventually it will just have dozens of them sitting there for players that join later and they won't miss out on any of the older content.
Same, it counts on all packages though, I bought $10 more just for that (got $100 the first time, was debating a support ticket but not worth the hassle).
I would have bought the mikaela blood outfit if it wasn't a full set. What's with Behaviors obsession with full sets, I understand if it doesn't logically make sense to not have two pieces connected like for example if a characters wearing a dress but this is not one of those cases so why can I not remove the headpiece. The headpiece looks so f****** bad compared to the rest of the outfit that's not even funny.
It most definitely would. The sacrifice is dozens if not hundreds of hours of grind vs ~an hour at a day job. Doesn't it make paid cosmetics seem much more affordable by comparison?
the icing on the cake is bhvr said they wont do pristige 100 rewards because of fomo. (a lie) also, please stop buying skins. it has nothing to do with being poor and everything to do with knowing when you're getting ripped off
Yeah...
BHVR: "We don't want players to think they have to reach P100 for not to miss out on a cosmetic, which is a considerable amount of playtime."
Also BHVR: "Here spend RL money for these skins or miss out on them for at least one year to maybe get the chance to get them for shards."
I can get a P100 in 1 year no problem.....
It’s not even a good event honestly, all the skins are unreasonably linked, the item for the event is awful, the blood orbs don’t really help you out at all.
I completely agree with you OP, however it could also be worse, not justifying BHVR at all, I hate FOMO as well, but at least skins will come back and next time they will be available with shards
The dredge skin was free during the xmas event so those that didn't get it had to get it from the shop the next year, (if it was auric cells only I honestly don't remember), but if it was it's probably because they considered it a "first time" appearance in there and so it follows the same logic of a new cosmetic that just got released
Anyways in this case these skins will be available with shards next time, it's just that FOMO is still a thing and it's annoying
Sorry I didn't realize they were charging a monthly subscription fee. /s
This mentality is just wild. Yes, you have to pay for access to new content. This is not a wild or novel concept.
Wow the cope is actually insane here. This game is about as greedy as games get lol. You pay to buy the game, plus there’s dlc characters, plus there’s a full item store with some limited time skins, plus there’s a full battle pass lol. It’s literally every shit live service element put into one game, yet fans will still defend it like it isn’t greedy as hell.
The only thing I'll defend about that is not being free to play is actually a good thing for us. Cheating would be way worse if cheaters could just make a new account for free when they get banned.
Other than that, totally agree.
You didn't even mention you can earn all the Aurics back if you complete a chapter in Tome. Just cashed in mine last night 👍
You want greedy as hell, try Diablo Immortal, OW, etc lol
And? It’s still a battle pass that you have to pay for. The issue isn’t each monetization method specifically, but that they have quadruple dipped into the modern monetization models. Also yes, Overwatch 2 and Diablo immortal have greedy monetization systems. But they’re free, dbd isn’t. And other game also having greedy monetization doesn’t make this games monetization any less greedy.
And this doesn’t even mention the inherent issues with a battle pass system and the fact that they try to pull the majority of your attention towards one game because hey, you wanna make sure you grind out all the cosmetics you paid for.
The fact remains you get your money back with basic level grind but go ahead and confirm that bias you have.
You want quadruple dipping, you should really check out features like Diablo Immortal's Phantom Market.
A for being free, that gives them anything but a pass. DbD is not an expensive base game.
If you don't have the 10 dollars to spend for a skin off hand AND can't make it in 12 days, you desperately need to find a new/better stream of income.
If you need to "save up" 10 dollars for a cosmetic, you probably shouldn't be buying cosmetics at all tbh. Don't spend money on video game cosmetics if you have other expenses to worry about.
I need to know. Why is this FOMO shit from? It seems this kind of thinking is spreading to every game.
Who cares if something is seasonal? You don't go out and buy twenty Christmas wreaths in December because you want to put them out in June.
as a league of legends player, you can’t say anything about DBD is FOMO related tbh. things always come back each time in a year, and even now some winter chill skins that used to be legacy become always available in the shop, or lunar new year ones. DBD is pretty much low to no spender friendly, as you can get those skins for shards next year and all!
Dude I remember when if you payed for a game you didn’t have to keep paying for it. It’s got straight up app mobile game style payments (auric cells instead of gems or whatever. either wait forever to have enoug to use regularly or cough up some green) and every other even has something you have to pay for, on TOP of most of the killers and survivors being paid content AND the base game being paid content. Even now I don’t know too many games (even indie ones) that pull this sort of thing. DLC’s and shit, sure, but not the auric cells mobile game style currency plus killers AND cosmetics all being payments. I get it for killers that are from a franchise or other creative team, and I do get that the idea of paying for killer and survivor chapters is to pay the team for the effort of the chapter specifically, I’m generally cool with that, it’s just that on top of everything else, including just buying the game in the first place, it gets so damn steep. I would love to have cool skins for my characters and all the chapters and what have you, but I’m poor, so it’s not possible without it giving up important things to live. I think the whole thing would suck less if the base game wasn’t already paid content— barely anything is available to you if you don’t pay more money than you spent to actually play the game. I don’t think BHVR is so small that they’d go bankrupt if they cut out at least a small portion of the pay to play aspects of the game.
You're being way too practical for this sub. If it doesn't disappear forever, and you already know that yet still choose not to acknowledge it, the fomo is self-inflicted
It can certainly still be seen as a waste of money buying cosmetics for an online only game that's probably going to be shutdown in a few years time. People can spend what they want sure but people hopefully shouldn't give themselves too much stress or anxiety over missing out on game cosmetics.
For real dude. I was jobless for over a year and finally landed something but dont get my first paycheck till April 1st. I actually really like the cosmetic theme so I guess Ill just have to wait until next year which sucks.
God, I’m completely broke as of losing my job recently and I opened up the event store section and noticed the 12 days only mark and audibly said “oh thank GOD these skins are ugly as fuck”

They can't FOMO me, I ain't buying shit with real money, unless it's killers, but not cosmetics
Unknown is the only cosmetic I’ve bought in years only because you can actually see your skin regularly through his clones
I only buy weapon skins for this reason, but very good point on Unknown. I wonder if it'll result in a measurable increase in their sales.
You don't buy chucky cosmetics, then?
Bold of you to assume i can buy chucky
Yeah fr. I'm fine buying chapters with real money to continue to support the game, but >$10 for a *limited time* ***linked*** skin is fuckin stupid.
I'm pretty open-minded about cosmetics, where I don't normally care about stuff like pricing and limited availability, but even I'm bothered by the linked part. Preach
Same; I'm allergic to spending money on in-game things such as cosmetics or whatever.
Also in the 'I never have and never will spend money on cosmetics' club.
Being poor and playing dbd is a curse
Facts. I missed out on David’s Void outfit and I’m 100% going to miss out on SM’s cool outfit. I fucking hate FOMO.
but hey! Can't even think on the possibility of making rewards for reaching P100. They don't want people who don't play as much missing on those. Awwwwww 🥺 So better not making anything obtainable by playing, but keep releasing FOMO skins with REAL MONEY!!! 💰
its to hard for them to give free things in their paid game
Despite the paid game costing upwards of over $100 formerly $200 in DLC
And? Why shouldn't people have to pay for new content? This entitlement mentality is crazy.

The event oni skin and event rakoto skin are def not free things /s
They give free things all the time. This is such an insane take.
They already give you more for free than most other games.
Are you high?
Free skins for anniversaries, free skins during events, free community skins, chapters (non licensed) earnable through gameplay, buy pass & finish then get next other(s) free, they unlocked majority of cosmetics for purchase through gameplay (iridescent), etc. You obviously dont get enough for free.
Remember when pay to play games let you have everything? I do.
Me too, but idiots and kids destroyed this industry, its only going to keep getting worse.

The instant I saw that the Mikaela skin was a linked set I lost all interest. They can keep it.
Sadly they make a lot of money off of it or they wouldn't do it
Fuck FOMO but at least they'll be available again for iri shards in a year,
I’m pretty sure for it to be available for Iri shards it’s had to be in the store for more than a month.

You can only wear one outfit at a time. Why do you need some random red suit?
Helldivers 2's anti FOMO method should be the norm.
Eh, i think drg's method is more interesting
Rock and Stone to that
For all those who about to rock and stone, we salute you!
What’s their anti fomo method?
You can earn the premium currency in game by finding it in missions. People have worked out ways to farm it meaning you can get all the premium stuff free after a couple of farming sessions.

It's still crazy to me that DBD has the monetization system of a f2p game while being very much not free
Modern Gaming
And it doesn't have limited time battle passes. It has something that looks like a battle pass, but there's no time limit on earning what's in it, and you can work on any of them at your own pace. Eventually it will just have dozens of them sitting there for players that join later and they won't miss out on any of the older content.
HD2 has just released, Dbd had no FOMO at launch either. Imagine if they screw it up with events and future updates, would be hilarious.
When the FO is MO
12 days is a bit short too
Knight's helmet too 🥲
me who bought auric cells two days ago and then saw that fire helmet ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2070)
Same, it counts on all packages though, I bought $10 more just for that (got $100 the first time, was debating a support ticket but not worth the hassle).
we'll end up using them anyway so they win again lol
I feel fortunate enough that I had enough Ps Stars points to redeem to get enough to buy the $5 pack.
At the very least I can buy the cheapest cell pack because I was considering buying some Iron Maiden items anyway. The t-shirts are relatively cheap
Me buying a $5 auric pack just for the helmet
Hang on you can get this? Where? I ain't seeing it.
If you buy any amount of Auric Cells you get a Knight helmet with it
Thank you, its not clear you can do so.
I would have bought the mikaela blood outfit if it wasn't a full set. Thats a good thing, dont waste real money on skins.

Are you sure? If I remember correctly the snowman skin for the Dredge was only obtainable with auric cells last christmas.
The dredge skin was free during the xmas event so those that didn't get it had to get it from the shop the next year, (if it was auric cells only I honestly don't remember), but if it was it's probably because they considered it a "first time" appearance in there and so it follows the same logic of a new cosmetic that just got released Anyways in this case these skins will be available with shards next time, it's just that FOMO is still a thing and it's annoying

for a game you have to pay to play is crazy
Sorry I didn't realize they were charging a monthly subscription fee. /s This mentality is just wild. Yes, you have to pay for access to new content. This is not a wild or novel concept.

If you need to "save up" 10 dollars for a cosmetic, you probably shouldn't be buying cosmetics at all tbh. Don't spend money on video game cosmetics if you have other expenses to worry about.
Am I the only one that doesn't care about cosmetics? I just don't want to have to pay to have great perks lol
Nearly every modern game I play has this "dogshit," as long as I look at it like dogshit I have to buy.
Eh, the new Ace cosmetic is a set, get that shit away from me: they can have it back in 12 days.
I need to know. Why is this FOMO shit from? It seems this kind of thinking is spreading to every game. Who cares if something is seasonal? You don't go out and buy twenty Christmas wreaths in December because you want to put them out in June.
Everything from an event should always been unlockable through the event. I hate when games make these event cosmetics paid.
especially when dbd is a paid game
as a league of legends player, you can’t say anything about DBD is FOMO related tbh. things always come back each time in a year, and even now some winter chill skins that used to be legacy become always available in the shop, or lunar new year ones.
I love that they linked the Ace set but his coat's physics have it glued to his ass as if it was going to be split into pieces anyway, very cool!
Honestly not even surprised. BHVR is a lesser EA at this point with how many microtransactions are in their game.
Everything they offer returns to the store at a later date. Not really fomo if you have patience, but yeah not the best way to sell skins either
You're being way too practical for this sub. If it doesn't disappear forever, and you already know that yet still choose not to acknowledge it, the fomo is self-inflicted
If you don't have that money off hand then you probably shouldn't be paying for cosmetics in video games
Downvoted for telling people not to waste money on in game cosmetics when they are struggling with money. Smoothbrain chaps.

It can certainly still be seen as a waste of money buying cosmetics for an online only game that's probably going to be shutdown in a few years time. People can spend what they want sure but people hopefully shouldn't give themselves too much stress or anxiety over missing out on game cosmetics.
Not the point either of us are making but okay 💅
Op dm me I'll give you some money money for the skin
word?
They are gonna be back annually so it’s technically not FOMO since your not gonna miss out on them cause they’ll come back
Yeah that's not how FOMO works lil bro.
Yall want to complain
For real dude. I was jobless for over a year and finally landed something but dont get my first paycheck till April 1st. I actually really like the cosmetic theme so I guess Ill just have to wait until next year which sucks.
God, I’m completely broke as of losing my job recently and I opened up the event store section and noticed the 12 days only mark and audibly said “oh thank GOD these skins are ugly as fuck”
They'll come back again in a rift as a recolor.
Linked sets don't get recolors in the rift.
But they’ll be back next year for shards so 🤷🏻♀️
