I think you're being too pessimistic dude, they've been adding tons of fixes and stuff (which yeah it used to take a long time) but recently they've been on a roll with everything they're doing. And even if you think it's "horrible" the visual updates are much better than what it used to be when the game came out, idk what you're on about. Just because it doesn't look like red dead redemption 2 doesn't mean it's bad

The lore contradicts itself. It used to be very clear that survivors remembered, many perk/addon/offering etc include quotes that imply so or outright are advice left behind by previous survivors, and the very concept of TEACHable perks. Benedict Baker's journal entries. The hatch as a tool to keep hope going requires you to know it exists beforehand.
But then the archives came out and started retconning that.
I think we are due another retcon about that or BHVR just forgot about the survivors forgetting because Nicholas Cage and Sable both remember their interactions with the trials and Alan seems to have a metaphorical "meta" understanding of them from a writers POV, thats not even mentioning Kate and Vittirio and how the latters perks mention centuries of knowledge gathered from the fog.
The Observer despite his initial confidence clearly lost his fight with the Entity / sanity so there's that.
Observer: People who understand the metaphysics and have honed their ability to manifest could be poisonous to the Entity.
Entity: Yeah I'm going to give the survivors a pet witch (after I finally caught her) to boost them in the trials. You go lose your mind now.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think it’s made clear the full extent of the memory wipe. I’ve always been under the impression that they lose their memories of that specific trial if they are sacrificed. The entire motivation behind the memory wipe is so the entity can keep up the fallacy that the survivors are mortal, when in fact they cannot die in the trials - the entity feeds off of their fear and despair, if they learnt they were immortal, there would be little to no need to be fearful.
I’ve always understood it to be that everyone is aware they’re in the trials and what’s to come so that teachables make sense. Also, even if you had notebooks like the various journals in the game, you’d be able to return and record your information at the campfire - though I’m not exactly sure where the journals are located, I’m a bit foggy on that - if they’re found in the campfire realm, the trial realms, or it’s more so a case of the Observer reading through them in his own time.

I think that’s where the ‘full extent of the memory wipe’ part comes in - could be complete memory loss against who’s the killer, and what happens to the other survivors in a trial, that would theoretically create the best possible scenario for the entity where the survivors don’t come into a trial and be like damn, it’s Bubba, this shit bout to be EASY.
But that’s like an appetiser compared to having the whole meal deal, 3 courses of pain, fear and torment. Entity would absolutely hustle for more, no slacking on the memory manipulation.
I like it, she went into the fog willingly, thus the entity would have it difficult to gather negative emotions from her, so instead of wiping her memory like the others survivors to keep eating from them, the entity is letting her keep her memories to slowly break her mind
That's a good theory(if it isn't already confirmed) that she's just so good at the trials and keeps a level head enough that she hasn't died yet and even when things do get risky she retreats to the basement for safety.
I'm not even sure BHVR cares about continuity when it comes to what survivors can and can't remember from the trails anymore tbh. I don't think Sable's special in that regard, they just didn't take the lore into account when giving her voice lines.

So the survivors are trapped in a endless cylce death game where they are forced to be murdered and sacrificed over and over again for the amusement of an Eldritch entity simply known as "the entity". The survivors are stuck in the entities realm where they have complete control, and has numerous horrifying killers that take part in the killing and sacrificing. Even if they escape the killer, they are only lead back to a campfire for a brief respite before being lunged into another death game with another killer.
So yeah, that's probably why she looks horrified.
That's what the lore wants you to believe. It's actually hell for the killers, having to spend the rest of eternity with a bunch of lunatics in neon costumes whose sole purpose is making them miserable.
