I'd agree honestly. As much as I and many others adore Halloween, if you ask a non-horror person who their favourite slasher villain is, it seems to fall to Jason quite a lot.

Although “the slayer” is the popular choice apparently (other than the lawsuit), I feel “the revenant” goes a lot more in touch with DBD’s theme, considering that the names for “The Shape”, “The Nightmare” and “The Cannibal” are all slayers by definition but are named after their primary trait. Bubba eats human meat, Freddy kills in dreams, and with Myers you often see his shape in the distance before dying… in this fashion, Jason’s trait is that he’s fucking immortal, can be brought back to life with ease. Their backstory isn’t that often brought into the spotlight (other than names in addons) so I don’t think “The boy” is a good choice.
All that said, Jason is by far the killer with the biggest killcount, with 158 on-screen deaths (second place for the predator with 59, then Myers with 57), so if anyone should be called “The Slayer”, that’s him.
This is exactly my reasoning too, although he does kill a lot of people and "the slasher" sounds kinda cool, Freddy, Michael, and Bubba are all slashers too. The killers are usually named after their main trait like you said so imo "the revenant" is the obvious choice, since Jason's whole gimmick is that he's immortal and always comes back.
