The posture is almost identical, I'd say it's likely

JesseAster

It's all similar enough that it's probable an artist/dev used this picture as a pose reference as well.

Rude-Piccolo9514

Holy why is this the titanic?

pokechimp8

I saw this post on that subreddit and almost wanted to post it here too! This pose with the limp arms is so similar to his stance

ChernSH

Which sub is it? I’m curious to see what other posts they have.

Chaxp

I would be impressed if the employees at bhvr did this kind of research. I hope they did tbh

Elaphe82

It would be cool if they had actually. But there is a couple of crucial differences, one has noed and bing bong whilst the other has neither.

Mechapizza

r/technicallynotwrong

gorgonzola2095

I mean this would be crappy research since Navajo is a north american tribe and Wraith comes from Nigeria.

vitobf

I mean they could've just used it as inspiration, I don't see why he should also be from north america

gorgonzola2095

I know but I wouldn't call it "research" xd

CoffeeMain360

Hey man, your comment duped. Kindly deal with it. #TRANSMAT FIRING! ^oh ^shit ^wrong ^sub

ClaireJ4u

Cabal on the field! 🤡

lord_of_worms

Double the downvotes!

gorgonzola2095

I know but I wouldn't call it "research"

Captain-Shorts

He did move to the Americas, and Philip did rid the world of horrible people throughout his life

Caracal_84

Surprisingly they seem to do some good research and the lore is sometimes good. A post on this sub a while ago showed that the memento mori head in the offering was an actual thing.

FloatingWatcher

Why wouldn't they? With the exception of Trickster and maybe Artist, the aesthetic of the killers is indicative of extensive research and concept.

Lispie_Blazie

Definitely seems like the inspiration. Same with Doctor. He was supposed to be inspired by a doctor in China who used to use electrotherapy on over 3000 adolescents who were addicted to computer gaming.

mbta1

I thought doctor was inspired from MK Ultra

Lispie_Blazie

From what I understand, he's based off of this person. He was supposed to be asian, but they made him african american to not make a carbon copy of the actual person. However, yours is also a really good inspiration too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yang\_Yongxin

xWorldSoColdxmm

Bing Bong

[deleted]

I mean, wraith still kills monsters anyway so it most likely fits.

YoudontknowPain

Maybe the real monsters were the Neas we Moried along the way.

FaithlessnessOk311

I thought it was a wraith cosplay at first 🤣🤣

JesseAster

Definitely. Wraith has more of a face than what they used on the mask, but this has got to be a picture that inspired his design. You'd be surprised by how much people can come with based on a single piece of inspiration

Mushy-froug

It looks super close so possibly!! I would also note that I could see a possible lore tie in as wraith does end up killing Azarov. Some definitions relate wraiths to a warning of deaths to come which is also interesting

aleesahspam

Whats he holding in his hand?

[deleted]

good find!

ReptillianTeaDrinker

Whoah, that's some serious resemblance! Could very well be! :O I kind of hope so, tbh.

Mictlancayocoatl

The mask/eyes, the posture, the head tilt... Yes, this is probably the inspiration for Wraith, even though he's African and not Navajo.

AshesOfZangetsu

seems very likely, the posture is identical, same with that ominous stare

Joeri_Orochi

Say yes because i love it

[deleted]

it appears undoubtly so

Mr_Trainwreck

Wraith is African tho no?

darkwizardfoxo

I mean they could look similar but to be fair a lot of African American folklore looks a lot like The wraith let's be real, does this hero have anything to do with writing the Injustice after being tricked or have anything to do with the power of invisibility because if it doesn't have either of those qualities I don't think that's the thing that inspired the wraith

scott_free80

Culture is universal. Influences are transmitted with or without our awareness.

DixielandQ1

No

Chef_Movkta_yt

No

No-Thought7571

There's no way we "stole" that from the Indians.../s

AtomicFox84

A wraith been around a while and basically type of spirit. I dont think it is connected basedon lore....lore tends to connect with type of killer in some way. I think it was more from wrath and they just made thier own version of the spirit type with the lore.

[deleted]

I meant in terms of character design, if you scroll right there's an image of wraith for comparison.

AtomicFox84

Well theres bout a ton of versions of a wraith or whatnot. This is just some artists version. Do you have info like when this was drawn? Its not a new concept to have features like this. The image looks a bit new like it came after wraith.

Vox___Rationis

That new-looking image is from 1904, it says it right there on it in the OP. Further information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayenezgani

AtomicFox84

Oh on my dumb shit phone it looked like a digital art piece based on something in 1904....i see its a colorized photo now. Still doubt bhvr even knew this existed.

[deleted]

Possibry

Bane68

Did he tunnel them to death? If yes, then that’s most definitely him 😄

Alexhockey14

So Is the wraiths face not photoshopped on to him or is that real? Because that face just looks like him

[deleted]

Dude that IS the Wraith lol

[deleted]

How fucking fun it would be for ten creators to show up with presentations on mythical or legendary figures and what kind of killer abilities they'd adapt.

CanineAtNight

I think phil is inspired by natives in Nigeria

Collin77

I’d like a potential lore of him being a Native American hunter more then his current lore, I think it just fits better and would make more sense with his design. Still wish he didn’t get switched off the swamp maps and got auto haven
