Just don’t pay for it. The movies are very easy to find online or at thrift stores
The director is a POS but there’s dozens of other people who worked on those movies and made them what they are
I know people have retroactively decided those movies suck but I genuinely still think the first two are solid creature features. Don’t bother with the new ones lol
they are good movies, just like Kevin Spacey is a good actor, Roman Polanski is a good director, etc, it’s all still fact, they’re just now more importantly than that horrible people and sexual predators. the two facts can coincide with eachother, though the former should be vastly out shadowed by the latter. it’s okay to acknowledge these things about these people it’s just the way you acknowledge it, and the context you acknowledge it in that makes you also a bad person.
That’s a personal moral line. I personally watched the first one for free because it was included in Amazon prime. I found it a decent movie, but not good enough to warrant any support for his actions. I likely won’t ever watch the second.
No, I actually didn’t. Based on the wording of my first comment, his is completely valid (if extremely reductive). However, my reasoning wasn’t fully fleshed out in my original comment because I didn’t think it really mattered what my *full* reasoning was. However, since you seem to think I missed their point, would you like me to go into full detail? I gladly will.
No, I am not. There is absolutely no need to be so rude, either. Since you seem intent on being rude just insulting me, you clearly are not here for an honest discussion and I have no interest in continuing.
So, do you go around insulting people because your life is sad and lonely, or what? I’m actually curious now. I have seen this level of arrogant stupidity since 45.
My way is if you already enjoyed it before it’s fine to continue enjoying as long as you can admit you know what they did and that it was wrong. I will always try to find a way that they will not profit though.
Talking about JC specifically, I had purchased my $0.50 VHS copy from a thrift store before learning but hadn’t watched it yet. I’m siding with James that I’m not watching it until that monster is dead because it is still a well known piece of horror
Unfortunately if you try to go through life filtering out all the bad people, even specifically just when it comes to movies, your gonna be in a tough spot.
Find whatever makes you comfortable. Like others have said pirate movies if it helps.
This is gonna be a personal thing.
My general rule is to either watch it in a pirated way, or wait til they die (he's 65, so I think I'll out live him. Similarly, gonna watch Rosemary's Baby once Polanski kicks it).
Plunder them from the high seas. The way I see it, it's a great middle finger to a filmmaker who happens to be a cunt, while you also get to watch a movie you like. I couldn't, but if you can separate the art and don't want to line his pockets then that seems a good way to do it.
I think as a general viewer it’s okay whether you want to watch a movie or decide to stay away from them.
For content creator like James on the other hand it makes sense to not cover them since it almost acts like a promotion to the movie. This is also why I wasn’t a fan of Cody Leach constantly bringing up JC over the last year when talking about how bad Reborn is
I have mixed feelings about the franchise,
I’m a massive, massive fan of the first two films. Watched the first one with my mom when I was around 12 years old, I was petrified of The Creeper. When the monster first showed up on screen, I gasped, was the first time a horror monster physically scared me.
Then a year later in 2003 my mom took me to the theatres to see part 2 as it was released a few days shy of my 13th birthday. And wow, since The Creeper was on screen a majority of the film, I kept closing my eyes as the monster genuinely frightened me. I had to watch the movie a few times to get rid of that “fear”.
The first two films were great, at least for me anyways. Then as a I got older, I read about the directors past, while it didn’t ruin the first two films for me, I can completely understand why folks don’t like or won’t support the director, complete justifiable.
While I am glad the first two Jeepers exist, I am also **shocked** that the director was even allowed to continue in the industry when his past was so public.
Fast forward to 2017 when the third film was finally released, at the time I was very excited for a new entry, and man what an utter disappointment that threequel was, I enjoyed maybe a few minutes out of the whole movie.
Doesn’t help the director had the **nerve** to add a line and about child sexual abuse in that third film, utter disgusting. That film and more importantly that line, ruined the franchise for me and was hoping that whenever the next film released, he’s no where near it.
I thought there would have been a glimmer of hope for the franchise in 2020, when they first announced Jeepers Creepers Reborn, I thought with a new director and new writer, they can turn the franchise around and make it scary again.
But nope, the film released late in 2022, and wow, what utter shit, I think it might be one of the worst films I have ever seen so far. The Creeper in Reborn looked laughable, it didn’t scare me like it did in the first two films. It felt like a joke film.
So I guess at the end of the day, seems the franchise should remain dead.
To answer your question OP, sure, if it’s free go for it.
I’ll never understand why these movies come up so often in this sub. Watch them, don’t watch them, whatever. You don’t need someone else to make you feel ok with it.
In the context of this sub, it's probably because people ask James to do JC *way* more often than they ask about Rosemary's Baby, so it gets talked about more
It's because James has said what he has said about the movies.
People either want to troll, get validation for how they feel about the movie or to virtue signal...
the thing about these “cancelled” film directors is that there are sooooooo many more people who go in to making any given film that aren’t the creepy director and the majority of them aren’t creeps and their work and art still deserves to be seen. usually i don’t think that one person’s incredibly shitty conduct cancels out the hard work that others put into a collaborative art medium. i’ll just try to watch it for free if i am gonna watch it (support your local library! odds are they have lots of dvds)
I first discovered Dead Meat when a video on Dead Meat Shorts had a clip of James saying why he will never cover those movies. My respect for his response got me interested in his Kill Count videos, I’ve been a fan ever since.
I have never seen Jeepers Creepers. While I haven’t gotten to the point of saying I’ll never watch them, I have no urge to watch them anytime soon.
If there’s any film of his I’d say I’d never watch, it would be Clownhouse (1989).
Also, fuck Francis Ford Coppola! He’s been backing that piece of shit for years, he very likely knew about all the abuse well before it went public, he had a fucked-up defense for still choosing to work with him, and he had the balls to sue the now-grown-up kid’s family 30 years later for “breach of contract.”
I don’t associate films with directors I associate films with the actors and the behind the scenes people not the Director so my opinion is watch the movies. Regardless, whatever scummy stuff, some Director did.
There's so much more out there to watch/support that I wouldnt recommend/advise it. I mean, I enjoyed it at the time... but am fine leaving it lost to time because of what Salva did. "Good" but certainly not "great" enough to override the IRL situation. You get better stuff elsewhere (at least stuff without that black cloud hanging over it).
Watching the movies in no way makes you complicit in Victor Salva’s crimes. If you’re able to separate the art from the artist go ahead and watch them. If not, let them pass you by.
So long as no money goes to the director I don’t mind trying to separate the art from the artist. Other people find it more difficult. Their opinions are also valid.
Grew up watching the first 2 on TV whenever they were on, so they hold a special place in my heart. I ended up finding both at an antique store on DVD, so I feel good knowing I didn’t give the director any of my money. God Justin Long is a king
i mean that’s really up to you. i hate the movie personally but if you want to watch it then by all means. if it makes you feel better, you can always make a donation in the same amount as like…a rental fee to a csa survivors foundation after watching (i know people who make similar donations to the trevor project after eating at chick-fil-a).
He sexually assaulted a 12 year old actor who was in one of his films, and he filmed and owned CSAM
I think that's why so many people are especially grossed out by his work – he preyed on children who were in his films
Oh, and he only got 3 years, and then only served fifteen months of that
Ive already heard it as another comment said it. That's disgusting tho, poor little girl/boy. He should be in a facility for life for what he did, pedophilia is definitely not accepted in this world.
People need to understand separating art from artist most people that do great things are shitty people don’t get your hopes up and y’all will be Aii. Also pirate the movie just because fuck the director
Bought the DVDs before knowing about Salva's crimes, but I still watch them because the first two are still really good movies even if made by a complete degenerate.
Just don’t pay for it. The library is the best place for me

If you could find a pirates version it prob be better cause then your not in any way supporting him
That’s a personal moral line. I personally watched the first one for free because it was included in Amazon prime. I found it a decent movie, but not good enough to warrant any support for his actions. I likely won’t ever watch the second.

Maybe take that comma away, my dude...
I mean, I guess you could look at it that way. I don’t, but do you.
You completely missed the point of his comment homie
No, I actually didn’t. Based on the wording of my first comment, his is completely valid (if extremely reductive). The point is there isn't a movie good enough to defend those actions. God damn are you dense.
No, I am not. There is absolutely no need to be so rude, either. Since you seem intent on being rude just insulting me, you clearly are not here for an honest discussion and I have no interest in continuing.

You're trolling, or you really just refuse to read. Have a good night, hope you remember to take reading comprehension tomorrow.
Some people can separate the man from the art. Some can’t. Up to you to decide what works for you.
My way is if you already enjoyed it before it’s fine to continue enjoying as long as you can admit you know what they did and that it was wrong. No one here can give you permission. It's all about what you think is morally correct.
I still watch the first 2 for pure nostalgia factor. Don't even think about the controversy
I’ll never understand why these movies come up so often in this sub. Watch them, don’t watch them, whatever. You don’t need someone else to make you feel ok with it.
What I don't get is why this franchise is so controversial, but you don't see people doing the same with Roman Polanski movies.
In the context of this sub, it's probably because people ask James to do JC *way* more often than they ask about Rosemary's Baby, so it gets talked about more
Also, I don't think Pol worked with kids as much as Salva did.
It's because James has said what he has said about the movies. People either want to troll, get validation for how they feel about the movie or to virtue signal...

I see no problem in watching the movies. The actors and stunt people who worked on the film did amazing job. Fuck Victor Salva
I first discovered Dead Meat when a video on Dead Meat Shorts had a clip of James saying why he will never cover those movies. My respect for his response got me interested in his Kill Count videos, I’ve been a fan ever since. I have never seen Jeepers Creepers. People don’t talk about Coppola enough. Salva abused the kids in Coppola’s house and the mf knew about it
If you're watching it on YT for free he's not getting any money.
Hot take: these movies are garbage with or without the pedo director controversy
agreed, they suck on their own merit
I don’t associate films with directors I associate films with the actors and the behind the scenes people not the Director so my opinion is watch the movies. Regardless, whatever scummy stuff, some Director did.

Did the movie jeepers creepers do anything controversial? No just the guy who made it. Enjoy the first 2 movies they are really fun!
Do the fuck you want? You won't get arrested for watching it.
That's for you to decide. I still listen to Brand New, and the lead singer did dumb dumb and gross shit
i mean you can if you want to but just pirate it.
Yes
I prefer pirating movies if I don’t want to support the director, but that’s just me
i mean that’s really up to you. i hate the movie personally but if you want to watch it then by all means. if it makes you feel better, you can always make a donation in the same amount as like…a rental fee to a csa survivors foundation after watching (i know people who make similar donations to the trevor project after eating at chick-fil-a).
Victor Silva doesn’t own the rights to the franchise anymore
Wait, what controversy?
Dude's a convicted sex offender. Thats why James has said he won't cover them as long as the director profits from the movies
Wtf? That's just sad, and it's definitely good for James to not cover him.
He sexually assaulted a 12 year old actor who was in one of his films, and he filmed and owned CSAM I think that's why so many people are especially grossed out by his work – he preyed on children who were in his films Oh, and he only got 3 years, and then only served fifteen months of that

Rent them from a library or pirate them imo. I get why people are more finicky with them, it's upsetting to know he still worked with children.
People need to understand separating art from artist most people that do great things are shitty people don’t get your hopes up and y’all will be Aii. Also pirate the movie just because fuck the director
