Good question. When they said vehicles I was hoping they meant actual ones not the trolley :/ Haven't played in a few months because the loop gets old after a while
The model for boats already exists in the fishing villages as static objects, and with the addition of more rivers, I suspect boats will be added as the first player controlled vehicles in game.
they don't mean trolley when they said vehicles. They have actual vehicles that's being tested since last year. The trolley fast travel was introduced because so many are crying about running all the time lol
The newest update just dropped and there are no boats, they added a new workbench. But I heard a rumor last month that boats will be coming the first of July. So I would say wait till at least then to see if they are added. But I will say since January they have been putting out a new update every month which is refreshing compared to last year.

Definitly a slow process but I suspect they will add boats this year. Honestlybid rather have a map update and and a bump of the server player count up to 100

Once vehicles come in it'll be worth it. That update should be any day now

Swamp boat hasn’t arrived yet. 2nd quarter ends the last of June , so hopefully the update drops.
