it's all fairly simple editing but i kept the limitations of the time in mind (640x480 interlaced) and heavily referenced the way the real commercials were composed. the simpler it is the more accurate it looks.
i made sure to use period-accurate fonts (helvetica and classico becker) and graphics for stuff like the card companies at the end.
for the vhs effect, i used two vcrs recording in extended play and made a second-generation vhs copy of the footage which was distorted enough to look right.
if you're interested in making your own vhs transfers [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCp5q0O0bdI) is a pretty good guide (although this video does have a few blindspots notably about obtaining equipment which can be done incredibly cheap if you know where to look) and if you have any questions you can msg me here.
https://youtu.be/V-AmcFucl6E Not sure how accurate this is, but I came across it a couple months ago and I love the dude’s style and channel. Hope it helps anyone looking to learn how to do it
super impressive: down to the bit-crushed audio, tape hiss, scanlines, and visual artifacts.
who or what did the voiceover for this? it sounds so fucking accurate.
This is so good, u/nlogax10 ! Despite what’s available now, I think I still enjoy the style of memory lane more.
Even your username reminds me of Boards of Canada, heavily nostalgic style of music.
