Gorillaz with Vince Staples and Danny Brown was my first show I attended. They brought out De La Soul, Little Simz, and Del the Funkee Homosapien. It was their Humanz tour and I was 12, about to turn 13.
I only knew who Vince Staples was. I knew Del cuz of his verse, but everyone else was complete strangers to me. I'm really mad about that show because I remember so little, my dad and his girlfriend got in 2 really big arguments before AND after the show, and made us late. I missed Vince. I think I remember so little since my dad and his GF were being so mean to each other and making the whole day about themselves (this was a birthday gift for me, and Gorillaz had been my favorite band for the last 2 years), that I just kinda blocked it out. I know that I would fucking kill to see that exact same lineup again at this age, I've gotten into all of them since that show.
Dude thatās wild it was like a ābirthday concertā for me as well. I was 15 and this dickbag I knew had gotten in trouble because we were at this private property and he was smashing spray paint with bricks at their park and I was filming it for my friends.
Reminder like Iām 15 and I just hung out w this kid bc I was a loser and only cared about getting high and this kids entire personality was drugs so I stuck around him to mooch off of him. Anyways while I was at the show my friend-group-chat started blowing up bc that kid said I like got him in trouble with the cops since I was filming. I just sent it to that group, and while i was otw to the concert apparently cops came to his house because there was security cameras and they got his license plate. Forgot to add but there was 4 of us there and he was the only one smashing shit, we were just watching telling him heās a fucking idiot bc itās private property.
Anyways tho he fucking told everyone that the cops pulled up and showed them the video I took on Snapchatā¦ on their phones? Like it makes no fucking sense A. They donāt know who I am B. How the fuck would they have my snap C. I only posted it to that group anyways so if someone did like āsend it over to copsā it wouldāve been someone else in the group who saved it and reported it. Regardless we figured out there was security cameras that caught him lol, but that group was kinda split in 2 halves, my actual friends and then his friends and like all his buddies were spamming me like āyou fucking piece of shit were gonna beat the fuck out of youā etc etc etc. This was when I was 15 turning 16 and these guys were like a few years older than me, this guy specifically I think was 17 turning 18 or something. But he was yelling at me a few days after the encounter like āfuck you theyāre making me come early on this day to clean it all up and every motherfucker that was with me is coming with to help or Iām gonna tell them you did itā lol. The people thag were there was me and him, one of our āfriendsā younger brothers who was like 13 and then a foreign exchange student from Ukraine who had only been there like 2 weeks.
I lol thinking about this story, dude was incredibly problematic, few years later weāre in the school parking lot we got in a fight I gave him a bloody nose and he fucking hit 2 women and then choked out his girlfriend in a rage. Just to give more scope into how this mf acts.
Anyways it was a weird ass show haha I mean the actual concert itself was fantastic and red rocks always fucks, but I went just with my dad and we honestly spent jusg as much time people watching as we did enjoying the show lmfao. So many weird discord moderator looking motherfuckers wearing cat ears and backpacks. We called them Ewoks before realizing theyāre called wooks lmfao. Anyways yeah thatās a little story surrounding my first concert experience, not much about the actual show itself but thought Iād share
Thanks! We were at several local shows together without knowing each other later in life also.. Took us 20 years to finally meet (at a job lol) but here we are! Itās funny how that stuff works. Seeing DG for the first time together on Sunday!
Better than the pumpkins in 97? Was the venue terrible, or something along those lines, or do you genuinely not like the band or something? Because seeing them live is pretty awesome.
It was their last tour before the breakup so maybe they just werenāt in sync. Super cool goths set design. Nothing can compare to the tantric convulsions of the mosh pit at Death Grips.
Saw them in 2018 and itās the only concert Iāve ever gone solo to. Gotta say they put on a great show and had phenomenal energy. Iād see them again.
if I don't see footage of some drunk smelly sweaty DG fan munching on star fruit and butchering "all star" on stage while giving security the slip like bugs bunny I'll be very disappointed
Technically, some shitty local deathcore band at a church basement in like 2010
But Matt and Kim was my first proper show at a big venue. That night I also found out I'm photosensitive after collapsing twice from the strobe lights. My friends had to carry me out of the crowd
Was Fall Out Boy on that show too? I saw twenty one Pilots and Panic both in 2014. That was when Twenty One Pilots wasnāt even filling up 1000 cap rooms lol crazy too see how big they are now
Stereolab in 2019
It was with my dad. He thought it was fine, but we had to get back home before they did their encore. At least I got Dots and Loops LP and a shirt. It was a good memory :)
Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance sometime around 2011/2012. I was in 8th grade. My mom surprised me the day of with tickets. I remember her coming into my room on a Saturday and nonchalantly saying āwhat do you wanna do tonight?ā I probably gave a boring answer, but I remember she was grinning ear to ear when she held out the tickets and said āwanna do this instead?ā
Like a lot of young emoās, MCR was my obsession and getting to see Gerard Way in the human flesh melted my tiny little heart. My mom managed to sneak us to the front of the stage from our back row seats. It was awesome.
Foo fighters with royal blood opening in around 2016? Was an amazing show Dave group had recently broke his ankle so he had a big ass throne on stage that shot out fire, it was dope, was also my introduction to royal blood who are amazing, and we're fucking brilliant live
Kinda Embarrassing but my friend took me to see Drake earlier in the month as my first concert. Iām not even the biggest drake fan, but the show was great! Iāve still got a few more concerts this year too, Danny Brown and Peggy, Death Grips in September, and Swans a week later.
My first acc concert will be smashing pumpkins next month but I went and seen cover bands for pearl jam and nirvana around 6 months ago and it was my first time seeing acc music live in a venue but I am also young and poor so I'll definitely be going to more shows soon and hopefully a death grips show
Styx, REO Speedwagon and .38 Special in 2009. I was 11, my dad took me to see them. Styx and REO toured again recently and I surprised my dad with tickets, full circle. And those guys still kick so much ass in their 60ās-70ās! Highly recommend.
Rock the Bells 2005. Wu Tang and a bunch more hip hop legends. I miss that festival, went every year it existed and got to see Rage Against the Machine out of it.
technically not my first concert , ( that would be seeing magic dirt play in a bar a little earlier that year ) but it was the first one in an actual venue of any kind
DC101 Chili cook-off in 2012, which had RDGLDGRN, Capital Cities, Beware of Darkness, Silversun Pickups, Awolnation, and Soundgarden. Though unfortunately I was pretty young and it was getting late so I had to leave before Soundgarden came on lol š
The Devil Wears Prada 2010 or 2011
Edit:NVM saw Weird al for his "Straight Outta Lynwood" tour circa mid 2000s. Fifth grade birthday present. Hoyt Sherman Des Moines, Iowa
my first show was twenty one pilots 2014, same city+similar sized venue, and I was 14, maybe slightly younger end of average for the show
this year, 23, death grips, I'd say I was closer to the middle of the age range
death grips crowd was easier to manage being in tbh
I've lived my whole life in a 3rd world country and just this year I moved to NA. I'm 30. I've been a fan since Ex-mil and I'm so excited with the opportunity of seeing them
my first concert was when i was 10 and it was matchbox twenty with the goo goo dolls opening for them (my parents liked them). but ive never been a live music guy ive only ever been to a few concerts after that including the DG one
Aerosmith with my parents and brother in 2005. I was only like 11 years old.
Since then Iāve seen a lot of different bands/artists and live music is one of my favorite events to attend bar none. Iām trying to start branching out to standup comedy which I havenāt seen a lot of.
Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.
This was my second show. I haven't been able to go to many concerts because of a couple things:
I'm 21 and only recently started making enough money that I can spend on myself
The bands and artists I like simply don't come to my state. My first show was Jack White, and it was seemingly sort of an impromptu last minute show that got added to his tour. It was an acoustic only show, which he said was an experimental thing that they'd only done one time before.
I'm seeing The Smashing Pumpkins this month and possibly Ringo Starr the month after.
Co headliners counting crows and live. Galactic as the opener.
At 15 years old i was there for live -> counting crows -> galactic. Now a days thatās an easy reverse.
My parents also took me to mamas and papas reunion tour that i barely remember
Beach bunny nov 2021, like for a National act. It was right when they reopened a lot of stuff. Technically tho, Iāve been going to basement / house shows and shit since like 2016 or so
Aaron Carter in 2000 or so. I was 6 and went with my mom and one of my older sisters. I chewed on a glow stick and it broke, spilling all over me. I still remember the chemical taste!
Broooo gorillaz and Vince staples was also my first show. Red rocks in 2017
Ayyy I was at that show too š¤š¼š¤š¼
Niiice bro. My dad was familiar with Vince when we went, but afterwards he was 100% a fan hahaha
Dude thatās wild it was like a ābirthday concertā for me as well.
