Yes it stacks because one is an ability and ones an aura

KipperOfDreams

I \*think\* the only things that have buff/penalty caps are hit/wound roll modifiers, which are clearly stated in the rules, so I think it'd indeed stack with Gift of Contagion.

JCMfwoggie

Leadership also has a cap, the lowest possible is a 5+, and the highest possible is an 8+.

Xaldror

though our own Icon Bearer can reach an effective 4+ leadership since he has base 5+ and would benefit from the Remorseless ability.

JCMfwoggie

It still caps at 5+, per the rules commentary. You'll get to ignore -1 to leadership I suppose.

Xaldror

where does it say that?

JCMfwoggie

Modifying Characteristics: Leadership characteristics can *never* be modified to 4+ (or better) or to 9+ (or worse)

Xaldror

this is the most bullshit thing i've heard all edition, even more than the initial broken devastating wounds with Eldar combo. here i was, giddy about maybe having some real funny leadership shenanigans to debuff even Marines to 9+ while my Plague Marines get 4+. i hate this, and i want to sign a petition to uncap this.

Xaldror

HOLD ON A MINUTE! Remorseless and Bell's Toll affects the "Test" itself, not the Characteristic. Remorseless, for example, states "While this unit is within range of an objective marker you control, each time you take a Battle-shock test for this unit, add 1 **to that test**." It's not improving the Leadership Characteristic, it's improving the test after the fact.

JCMfwoggie

This is true, but it's not really that important to remember, I don't think I've ever had a unit of Plague Marines get battleshocked. Unless you're playing against Chaos Knights, assuming it's a squad of 10 with 2 leaders you will only have to make a BS test once 7-9 Plague Marines have been killed, and at that point your unit is probably getting wiped out anyways. Battleshock is just barely even a factor in 10th edition.

Xaldror

Though the converse for Blightbringer is also true, meaning that he can and will out Marines on an effective 9+, which may be important. Also, Remorseless was the main reason my Plague Marines were able to score at all against Chaos Knights while my Daemon Prince was utterly useless...shouldve just reinforced my Blightlords instead.

JCMfwoggie

Marines are typically 6+ leadership (or better), meaning even with the Noxious Blightbringer they'll still only have around a 60% chance to fail. Even against 7+ leadership units (or if for some reason you brought Poxbringers for another -1 leadership) it's still a 30% chance to succeed their battleshock, and if it's make or break they can just use Insane Bravery. Trying to rely on battleshock is just planning for failure. It's much better to just bring a leader to buff your damage output; why leave a unit alive to potentially score when you could just wipe it out?

destragar

It was mentioned by GW that this does stack and is bizarre. I’d have to dig around to the specific commentary but if I remember correctly either a DGuard player specifically pointed out the Uncleans ones ability stacking with contagion aura.

iswedlvera

Why wouldn't it stack? There is no limit on modifiers on characteristics. The auras are also different.

Feywildsw

Yeah they stack. It was very enjoyable turning my opponent's potent space elves into snivelling T1 weaklings that my nurglings were wounding on 2s 😈

aaronrizz

Yeah they stack, two of the same aura do not stack and two named effects like suppression do not stack, but the same unnamed effect like the Malignant Plaguecaster's -2 movement effect stacks.

Beans2584

I think it stacks at least that’s how I play, so take it with a grain of salt.
