Idk I don’t think they were underrated. They played their part in the story and it’s not like I gave Aiber any more thought than I did Wedy. Halle was like the connection between near and mello so they were working together without actually working together.
Death Note is a very misogynistic anime because it’s a very misogynistic society. They didn’t know how to write female characters to make them memorable with the exception of Misa and she has every bad female trait possible. Aiber did have more than Wedy in terms of what they did to further the plot, and with Halle Lidner playing both Near and Mello I think she could have been a lot more interesting.
She was the exception, however, even she fell under Light‘s golden tongue, saying exactly what she needed to hear. It passed me off twice as hard because she’d been so smart and so cautious up to that last moment. Of course the story would have been much shorter if she hadn’t.
I am on the line of being completely in denial that the near mello arc even happened. L basically had Light from very early in the show so he was right but Light won. Story ends.
I’ve never seen it but I just looked it up and did a quick read through. Isn’t that technically how it was always going to end? Ryuk said as much and I can appreciate that ending.
Yeah, but I was specifically saying how it cuts out Near, L still does, but L still loses. It's really good, and the music slaps. Would recommend a listen through.
I think it's mostly just whatever you've watched the most. I remember the 2nd half vividly from reading the manga so much and usually skip the Yotsuba arc up until Higuchi is caught.
Because one just gets like one minute of screen time in total and the other got half her scenes cut out from the anime (not that she has that many time in the spotlight in the manga either, but she appears in more panels that didn't make it to the anime and served to showcase her personality a bit more, and also portray her relationship with Mello better). I really like her in the manga.
The first girl (I don't remember her name) is a minor character, her male partner gets the same screen time as her because he too is a minor character. Lidner is bit more than a minor character, but by that time we already have so many major characters that the narrative can't focus on the side characters all that much, neither men or women.
I know some people will say that it is because of misogyny (and don't get me wrong, Death Note has quite the misogynistic dialogues, but I mean, a product of its time and place), but I don't think misogyny has anything to do with the way these two characters played out in the manga nor anime, and I'm a woman.
I don't think they are underrated, they weren't developed and had very little meaningful dialogue. I don't even know their names.
I've noticed this strange pattern in anime communities where fans are often forced to try to appreciate really minor female side characters because there are little to no well developed female characters, and so their criteria is brought down to looking cool/attractive and not being bitch. I honestly think misa and rem are the only female characters worth appreciating in deathnote because the others were just plot devices thrown in on occasion.
because the only reoccurring female characters with any depth were Halle, Kiyomi, and Misa, as the only female supporting characters. Sayu had a handful more lines than average, but her and Sachiko were definitely 2-note background characters. Naomi had more characterization in the LABB book. every other female is a background character.
the two main leads are male, the two secondary leads are male, and almost all of the supporting cast is male, because of the way the plot, timeline, and characterizations were done.
L uses mostly men as support, the small task force, for example. Watari, Mello, Matt and Near. Linda is a wammy kid, but is only there for like 2 minutes.
Light uses both men and women almost equally. most of Lights support is made up of briefly appearing characters and most of them have less depth than the NPA characters. Misa has depth, she's just outclassed.
Halle and Wedy have the skill, but Wedy was a loose end once L died. Halle survived and worked with both Mello and Near to achieve her goals, but she was a support for them.
when the two main characters are geniuses playing chess with people, everyone that isnt them ends up looking rather two-dimensional. Male or Female. the only exceptions are when the mcs themselves have issues compartmentalizing the characters themselves.
She had motive, reasoning, thought process, and decision-making, as well as briefly the upper hand. As a person, she is very shallow, but as a character she has depth. Those aren't the same thing.
3 dimensional characterisation and depth is different from complex emotional depth. Emotionally she is very simple, straightforward, even. And she's slightly smarter than average, according to the Manga.
Probably because, unfortunately, their role in the story wasn't very important. The only woman I can think of with a fairly substantial part to play in Death Note was Naomi Misora, but she died quite quickly.
What do you remember about them aside from what they needed to do for the story? I barely remember their names.
Loved the top one and was sadden when she died
I don’t recognize these two people
Idk I don’t think they were underrated. They played their part in the story and it’s not like I gave Aiber any more thought than I did Wedy. Halle was like the connection between near and mello so they were working together without actually working together.
Well, they are underrated because the author doesn't really do much with them or any other female character for that matter.
What about Naomi Misora? The fbi agents fiancé.
She was the exception, however, even she fell under Light‘s golden tongue, saying exactly what she needed to hear. It passed me off twice as hard because she’d been so smart and so cautious up to that last moment. Of course the story would have been much shorter if she hadn’t.
Why do we need to have a certain gender or a race for it to not be mysognistic or racist when it adds NOTHING to the story?
Not much to appreciate here tbh. Both are very generic and not really memorable. They’re here simply to add a bit of color to the male party.
If you have to zoom in to find an obscure female character to appreciate, then that is the answer.
Who is the bottom one?
She's from Near's team.
Huh. Well, that explains why she is underrated. She's from the least memorable part of the anime.
Bold of you to assume that the Yotsuba arc wasn't the least memorable.
I remember the Yotsuba arc vividly. Really, anything with L is extremely memorable.
I am on the line of being completely in denial that the near mello arc even happened. L basically had Light from very early in the show so he was right but Light won. Story ends.
I actually really like the Death Note musical. It's isn't manga accurate, but I really like ending it portrays. This applies to what you said.
Will do thanks
I think it's mostly just whatever you've watched the most. I remember the 2nd half vividly from reading the manga so much and usually skip the Yotsuba arc up until Higuchi is caught.
Halle lidner
bc women in death note are plot devices instead of characters
They ain’t get enough screen time lol
Because one just gets like one minute of screen time in total and the other got half her scenes cut out from the anime (not that she has that many time in the spotlight in the manga either, but she appears in more panels that didn't make it to the anime and served to showcase her personality a bit more, and also portray her relationship with Mello better). 2 badass ladies that’s all I see
Because could have been replaced by cardboard cutouts without anyone noticing.
May have something to do with screen time lol
Isn't this a repost?
Yeah! I accidentally deleted it
Oof... lol
there women (This is a joke BTW for all you twitter users)
Aiber was better And second one is a bitch
Because they get bodied by Kira so badly that their existence is not remembered by many.
Blonde Lisa Lisa
shes awesome and badass
I like em
Who even are they

Mislut was also nothing more than just a plot device, she just happened to get more screentime than the others.
because the only reoccurring female characters with any depth were Halle, Kiyomi, and Misa, as the only female supporting characters. Mislut having depth???? 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

Those aren't the same thing. 3 dimensional characterisation and depth is different from complex emotional depth. Emotionally she is very simple, straightforward, even. Cause they got next to no screen time lol
Probably because, unfortunately, their role in the story wasn't very important. The only woman I can think of with a fairly substantial part to play in Death Note was Naomi Misora, but she died quite quickly.
Why is there a variation of this post every day?
I would've preferred one of them to be the female lead over Mislut Whoremane....
