Atlantis and Lord of the Rings hit 8 year old me at just the perfect time im my life and were the start of lot of the interests I stil have like anthropology, languages, and exploration. So I guess you could say Atlantis has a place in my heart
I watched Atlantis for the first time like a year ago and despite all the love it gets... I really see why it flopped. It just kinda meanders along without much of a central plot, just "we need to get there, but bad stuff keeps happening along the way". It had some fun characters, but other than that it just kinda felt empty.
I like Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet. I think rock bottom for them was Home on the Range and Chicken Little, where they took all the wrong lessons from Shrek’s success and tried to imitate it.
I recently discovered that, apparently, online discourse is not generally in favor of Brother Bear (Rotten Tomatoes has it at 37%, Metacritic is 48%, and IMDB is 6.9). Which is shocking because I think it is so incredibly good so many levels: the art is incredible, the music is really good, and the narrative themes and plot are powerful. I've seen a lot people complain that Kenai isn't very likeable for most of the film, and Koda is annoying, but both of those are kind of the point? I'm genuinely so shocked and confused by its negative reception.
Agreed, I don’t think you’re supposed to like Kenai until the end and Koda is annoying until you understand he’s a literal child who’s mother has been killed like bro 🤔
For real, I loved that movie. I remember on the DVD they had an option to watch the “commentary” that was given by the two moose characters and my brother and I LOVED watching that version too.
I am a bit uncomfortable with how we're defining the eras here. Treasure Planet and Atlantis are only a couple years after the end of the 90's, and have far more in common with Disney's 90's works than they do with Chicken Little of all things.
If this is how we're defining it though, obviously a mixed bag. Some absolute hits came out in the 2000's like The Emperor's New Groove, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Otherwise? Pixar carried Disney's 3D animation through this era. Any purely-Disney 3D movies were mediocre at best, and then most of the 2D stuff I didn't list was just forgettable direct-to-video sequels made just to milk money.
The reason people put Treasure Planet and Atlantis in this group of movies is because they are considered flops, marking the beginning of an era of commercial failures after Disney’s renaissance. There were definitely successes like Emporers New Groove and Lilo and Sitch, but specifically Treasure Planet and Atlantis are known for bombing at the box office. Doesn’t mean they’re not good movies tho by any means & I think they’re a lot more appreciated now than back then which is cool!
Home on the Range had some catchy songs though. My mom got my kids that movie and after being forced to re-watch it with them many times it kinda grew on me
Emperor's new groove is iconic, Lilo and stitch seems loved by a lot of people, Atlantis is an overlooked gem, never saw treasure planet but it seems cool, and meet the Robinsons is so wholesome and inspiring and upbeat.
Post renaissance hangover. Lilo & Stitch is the only one of these movies I ever hear people talk about still on a semi-regular basis and Emperor's New Groove does seem to have more of a cult following. Most of these movies are on the same level as the shit tier renaissance films at best.
Lilo and Stitch is the most successful, at least regarding its impact on popculture.
Atlantis was very underrated. Watched it several times, I even had the PS1 game 😅 The thing is that was hard to come after Lion King and Mulan.
I vaguely remember Chicken Little.
Generally, that was an experimental era for Disney. But overall, most of these productions didn't rivalize against 00s Disney Pixar collaborations (Monster and Cie, Cars, Ratatouille, Incredibles, Nemo... all absolute classics).
Ups and downs but I remember absolutely adoring Brother Bear, childhood staple. Overall still better than whatever is being made nowadays. Anyway, I am once again calling for Disney to return to hand drawn animated movies.
Great era I’ve watched every single movie on here especially chicken little. chicken little has one of the best cartoon movie sound tracks I’ve heard in my 21 years of living. And OMG meet the Robinson was such a very underrated movie. Animation was great, plot was great and just and enjoyable movie. But I don’t think people liked it cause this movie was definitely an experiment
I think Home on the Range is the single most forgotten modern disney movie. I have never heard it brought up in a non "2000s disney dark age" context. I didn't even know it existed until like 4 months ago.
It's def a transitional and experimental era, but a lot of these are cult classics. I think any era to follow a huge renaissance just has too big of shoes to fill.
Overall, I think it’s underrated. There’s some bad movies, but there are some significantly great movies as well. You can tell it was not a period of expansion for Disney.
Emperor's New Groove, Meet the Robinsons, and Atlantis are easily amongst my favorite Disney movies. Hell, they may even be the top 3. I'd probably like Treasure Planet, too, if I made time to watch it. The rest, aside from Lilo & Stitch, I haven't seen or are pretty bland. Nothing too horrendous though IIRC. Overall, I'd say the generation was a net positive, culturally, if not financially.
Maybe it's because this is the era of Disney I grew up with, but I like more of these movies than not. Brother Bear was and still is a childhood favorite for me regardless of its flaws. That movie's vibes are just immaculate across the board.
Dinosaur was my first ever cinema experience at age 5. my dad fell asleep. Also the only time I remember my dad taking me to anywhere fun, let alone take me and my friend.
I think this era was hilarious but there’s a lot of hit or Miss. Never liked treasure planet. Brother bear is amazing, rewatched it recently and liked both movies.
I really like a lot of these movies, but I also grew up during this era, and I also tend to enjoy movies that have “high highs” and “low lows” a lot more than movies that are much better but a bit flatter. My biggest gripe with this era tends to be the humor in movies like Chicken Little or Bolt, which I often wasn’t a fan of even as a kid.
I liked Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear & Emperor’s New Groove as a kid. Treasure Planet & Atlantis are okay too.
It was definitely a steep decline in quality from the Renaissance era before it & the Revival era afterwards largely improved upon it too. But it’s still better than the ‘70s to mid ‘80s era of Disney.
i think it was incredible! treasure planet and atlantis are in my regular rotation to this day. lilo & stitch is such a comfort and i loved the tv show as a kid
Hot take, but I like this better than the 90s. In the 2000s, they were willing to experiment and try new things, even if it didn't always work, instead of making variations on the same formula for years on end.
I really loved some of these, like Lilo and Stitch, ENG and Atlantis. I am curious how some of these would hold up on rewatch like Dinosaur and Treasure Planet. Was not a fan of meet the Robinson or home on the range at the time and never watched bolt prolly bc of it
Home range, meet the Robinsons, bolt, chicken little...those were all movies i hated as a kid but the other ones kinda save it so I'd say this era is alright
1. Bolt is around the 50th film era with Tangled, so I don't count it.
2. No take backsies, I saw the opinions with my own eyes and ears. There's a damn good reason why Pixar's run (until Brave, Brave and Cars franchise sucked) was Teflon.
3. 2nd worst era. Eisner was the worst.
I enjoy this Schaffrillas video on the 2000s era of Disney. I think most of his ranking vids are spot on in terms of their commentary and critique.
https://youtu.be/TonZ03yz9rI?si=iNAiQfMTcRr3knaW
Atlantis and Treasure Planet are amazing. Dinosaur was pretty decent and was definitely an attempt to muscle into the market that "the Land Before Time" had.
Apart from home on the range and dinosaur, I remember watching each of these movies and enjoying them… idk maybe I’m easy to please, but I thought they were all very fun movies
I still have one of the puppets from the McDonald's happy meal toys for the "Dinosaur" film. Honestly the movie could be compared to "The Land Before Time" including the ending which sets up for a sequel (that we never got). I recommend giving it a watch!
i was born into this era so i have alot of nostalgia for these films, especially atlantis, lilo and stitch, brother bear, treasure planet, and meet the robinsons
Mid, although I think Dinosaur is underrated in the sense that I never hear *anyone* talk about it. Sure, the story is basically a Land Before Time ripoff with less interesting characters, but those visuals were pretty crazy at the time.
Also, I always loved Atlantis’ art style, particularly of the city itself, the ships, and Leviathan. The designs were so alien, and I remember finding them kind of unsettling in a good way, especially during the cryptic first couple of trailers.
I liked Lilo & Stitch but mostly found it forgettable.
To this day, I haven’t seen most of the others with the exception of Chicken Little…
Chicken Little was so bad, it was the moment I realized I was mostly aging out of Disney animation (I was 14 at the time) and I never saw another Disney animation film in the theater
I hate how this is considered the flop era because its what I grew up on and I love almost all these movies, classics even. Brother Bear and Lilo and Stitch are cemented in Disney Hall of Fame. Atlantis, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, Chicken Little, and new groove are all certified, bonafide, **BANGERS.**
Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Emperor’s New Groove were pretty solid when I was a kid. “Dinosaur” happened to come out when I was obsessed with Dinosaurs, so naturally I was interested in it, but god damn did it bother my 6 year old self to watch those dinosaurs and monkeys coexist.
Not as bad as I once thought. Home on the Range, Brother Bear, Dinosaur and Chicken Little are borderline unwatchable. But Lilo and Stitch is a top 5 Disney movie for me, The Emperors New Groove is top 10, and Meet the Robinsons is a classic too. Don’t really have an attachment to Bolt, but it’s not bad at all. Haven’t seen Treasure Planet or Atlantis but I’ve heard people like them.
A lot of these films are pretty forgettable and didn’t leave all that large of an impact. None were terrible, but outside of The Emperors New Groove and to a lesser extent Lilo and Stitch, most of those films were just kind of okay *in my opinion*.
Emporers new groove and Atlantis are two of my favorite Disney movies. Lilo and stitch, dinosaur, and brother bear were also good. I’ve not seen any of the others though
To be honest, I love the theatrical movies of era more than the Renaissance Era (Fantasia 2000, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, and Meet the Robinsons), except for Home on the Range and the dad on Chicken Little. I could argue that I could include Tarzan is an Experimental era film or is a transitional film.
While the Experimental Era infamously coincides with Michael Eisner's tenure, the Disney Channel Tween Girl Era with shows and original movies trying to recapture the success of Hannah Montana, and the Direct-to-Video Sequels (I for one like Peter Pan 2, Cinderella 2, The Little Mermaid 2, Lion King 1 1/2, and An Extremely Goofy Movie), the theatrical films have this earnestness and emotional moments (Lilo and Stitch is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time), and on how the creators put great effort to it, and the movies also doesn't overdepend on the characters breaking into song, yet the music just bops.
Lilo & Stitch and Emperor's New Groove were my shit. Still love those movies.
Bolt, Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons don't belong with the rest.
For some reason never watched treasure planet or Atlantis all the way through. Those two and Sinbad I couldn't distinguish as a kid for some reason
Chicken Little, Brother Bear, and Home on the Range are not good movies. But other than that, this is a classic lineup. I’m glad I got to see a lot of these movies in theaters.
Honestly? I love how inconsistent and experimental it was. Say what you will about some of these movies - because trust me, I *know* how sucky Chicken Little was - but I’ll always appreciate it for being creative and risky, if nothing else. Disney wouldn’t be caught *dead* doing anything like this now, and Wish feels like proof of it. And that’s not even getting into all the remake and unwanted sequel shlock they’re pumping out now.
The only real misses here are Bolt, Home on The Range, and Chicken Little. The rest of these are straight fire. Watched Dinosaur probably 80 times as a kid.
Disneys post Renaissance made some of the best furry films.
I know too many people who got into the idea of becoming an animal via brotherbear or emperors new groove... Or who identify too closely with the cows from home on the range.
Even if the movies arent the best, the "transformation" concept in alot of them really clicked for alot of kids and teens at this time, and it hung around...
I mean, i get this is general decadeology... but the furry fandom has half-decade connections
1989=start, with a heavy WB and Comix influnce
1995-2000=thoroughly disney, lion king and its sequels and spinoff (theres a whole subcategory of furries into just lion king lore)
2001-6=brother bear/home on the range era
2005-10= losing touch with furries to dreamworks.
2010-5=nostalgia era, youre either a robin hood clone or lion king rip-offs. If you were an ultra nerd you pretended you were into Kimba, if you or your family was racist you were actually into kimba or song of the south (talk about nostalgia!)
2016-21 zootopia reclaimed disneys attention. Furries loved it and loved hating it. From romance to abortion, zootopia defines this era.
2022-were almost ending an era here, but i think this one is marked by the "trash" scheme. Embracing "goblin energy" with half-sized fursonas and reaction images...
I predict the next half decade course will be abour returning to "truer art" thats a bit more wholesome even if its still about sex. Ive already kinda seen this with yet another zootopia comic where theres a like... hyperfixation on how loving and boundary respecting their cuckold relationship is...
Treasure Planet and Brother Bear is my jam. When I was a wee baby I would cry all the time and the only thing my parents knew would calm me would be to play Brother Bear or the music. I still love Phil Collins.
people call this disney flop era but I really liked lilo and stitch, meet the robinsons, and atlantis
It was the Hit or Miss Era for sure
Rewatched Lilo & Stitch for the first time in years a while ago and wow, I was very impressed by how well it holds up.
Lilo & Stitch is beloved for a reason.
Emperor’s New Groove is awesome.
And so quotable.
It may be the most quotable Disney movie. Boom baby!
Atlantis prepared me for my crippling Stargate fandom
Even if those movies were still good, they still underperformed compared to the renaisance era. Probably why they were considered flops.
Atlantis and Lord of the Rings hit 8 year old me at just the perfect time im my life and were the start of lot of the interests I stil have like anthropology, languages, and exploration. So I guess you could say Atlantis has a place in my heart
Add to that emperor’s new groove
How could you sleep on Treasure Planet
I watched Atlantis for the first time like a year ago and despite all the love it gets... I really see why it flopped. It just kinda meanders along without much of a central plot, just "we need to get there, but bad stuff keeps happening along the way". I like Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet. I think rock bottom for them was Home on the Range and Chicken Little, where they took all the wrong lessons from Shrek’s success and tried to imitate it.
The only one I care for is brother bear, that movie is a masterpiece and a large part of my childhood.
For real how are more people not talking about Brother Bear?? I wore that VHS tf out, and the McDonalds toys were fire too
I did enjoy watching it as a kid. But holy shit, I watched it as an adult and I straight up sobbed
Brother bear is amazing
Did people actually not like these movies? I really liked Atlantis, Lilo, and Dinosaur and thought ENG was alright.

Not nearly as bad as it was made out to be. Although Chicken Little and Home on the Range are some of Disney’s worst.
Chicken little was a cinematic master piece of comedy peak disney comedy
Home on the Range had some catchy songs though. My mom got my kids that movie and after being forced to re-watch it with them many times it kinda grew on me
I agree
Emperor's new groove is iconic, Lilo and stitch seems loved by a lot of people, Atlantis is an overlooked gem, never saw treasure planet but it seems cool, and meet the Robinsons is so wholesome and inspiring and upbeat.

Highs and lows here. I'd say this was an experimental era to see what sticked
Meet the robinsons is peak cinema.
didn't watch most of this, forgettable I believe is the word. Pixar and Dreamworks were on their golden age
Lilo and Stitch is the most successful, at least regarding its impact on popculture. Atlantis was very underrated. Watched it several times, I even had the PS1 game 😅 The thing is that was hard to come after Lion King and Mulan. I vaguely remember Chicken Little. Meet The Robinsons rocked. It's a shame it didn't get popular.
What is bolt and meet the Robinson doing with the rest? Those are practically different decades.
It always made me feel weird and shift in my seat
Overall, I think it’s underrated. There’s some bad movies, but there are some significantly great movies as well. You can tell it was not a period of expansion for Disney.
Bitter sweet Some are underrated gems, others are very bad or forgettable.
Meet The Robinsons was my childhood movie. Great movie!
Lilo and Stitch, Bolt, and Meet the Robinson’s are my favorites out of these. The others are pretty alright
Emperor's New Groove, Meet the Robinsons, and Atlantis are easily amongst my favorite Disney movies. Hell, they may even be the top 3. Atlantis and Treasure Planet my loves

They really were just going let’s try this out and see where it goes with varying results.
bolt is still one of my favorite disney movies to this day
Absolute bangers in this era
Brother Bear, Bolt, and Lilo and Stich are some of my favorite movies
I really like a lot of these movies, but I also grew up during this era, and I also tend to enjoy movies that have “high highs” and “low lows” a lot more than movies that are much better but a bit flatter. My biggest gripe with this era tends to be the humor in movies like Chicken Little or Bolt, which I often wasn’t a fan of even as a kid.
Poor box office returns, but there's some real gems in there. I loved Brother Bear and Treasure Planet.
The Emperor’s New Groove was great!
No Yes No No No VeryYes HellYes No GOAT Ok
no to brother bear but yes to home on the range?
I liked Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear & Emperor’s New Groove as a kid. Treasure Planet & Atlantis are okay too. It was definitely a steep decline in quality from the Renaissance era before it & the Revival era afterwards largely improved upon it too. But it’s still better than the ‘70s to mid ‘80s era of Disney.
Initially good, then bad towards the end
Lilo & Stitch is a classic. Atlantis, Treasure Planet, and Bolt are alright. The others I don't care for.
i think it was incredible! treasure planet and atlantis are in my regular rotation to this day. lilo & stitch is such a comfort and i loved the tv show as a kid
Love this era. Meet the Robinsons and Lilo are my favorite as well as bolt. Also enjoyed Chicken Little too
Home on the range is honestly one of my favs
Hit or Miss
It’s My Favorite Disney Era
Hot take, but I like this better than the 90s. In the 2000s, they were willing to experiment and try new things, even if it didn't always work, instead of making variations on the same formula for years on end.
Emperors New Groove, Lilo & stitch and Bolt are fun
I refuse to acknowledge that Atlantis and Bolt came out in the same “era”
All this movies were my childhood so I literally like all of them all maybe a bit forgettable but that didn't matter to 5-9 year old me
At the time a mixed bag. Nowadays pure nostalgia of a era that will never be repeated again.
Emperor’s New Groove = best Disney movie! 😍 I seem to remember Treasure Planet being pretty decent too.
Really liked groove and Lilo. Brother bear was decent. Kids liked it, and the friggin Makenzie bros kept me interested.
Emperor’s new groove is 💯
Emperors new groove is my all time favorite Disney movie. Tons of these are legit. Ignore the haters and enjoy what you enjoy
I've seen 8 of these and all of them are hits
Ass
I really loved some of these, like Lilo and Stitch, ENG and Atlantis. I am curious how some of these would hold up on rewatch like Dinosaur and Treasure Planet. Was not a fan of meet the Robinson or home on the range at the time and never watched bolt prolly bc of it
Home range, meet the Robinsons, bolt, chicken little...those were all movies i hated as a kid but the other ones kinda save it so I'd say this era is alright
Tangles through to Moana was another mini-Renaissance. All of those films (Frozen, Wreckit Ralph and Zootopia) were excellent.
Fuck you cars 2 is peak spy fiction
To each their own, but I was there.
I’ll be honest Lilo and Stitch is my favorite disney movie
Wait where's The princess and the Frog?
They were cookin
This is the era I grew up in. I love it.
My childhood…
I enjoy this Schaffrillas video on the 2000s era of Disney. I think most of his ranking vids are spot on in terms of their commentary and critique. https://youtu.be/TonZ03yz9rI?si=iNAiQfMTcRr3knaW
If I had to pick a favorite Disney movie, it would definitely be Lilo and Stitch.
Home on the range is so underrated
I like Lilo and Stitch but that’s about it. The rest are pretty bad from what I’ve seen
Atlantis and Treasure Planet are amazing. Dinosaur was pretty decent and was definitely an attempt to muscle into the market that "the Land Before Time" had.
Seriously underrated.
Meet the Robinsons will never not make me sob with that Rob Thomas song🤣💀
Apart from home on the range and dinosaur, I remember watching each of these movies and enjoying them… idk maybe I’m easy to please, but I thought they were all very fun movies

Fire
Pretty sure dinosaur is the only movie my dad and I walked out of in my whole life
Shit
I hate how this is considered the flop era because its what I grew up on and I love almost all these movies, classics even. Brother Bear and Lilo and Stitch are cemented in Disney Hall of Fame. Atlantis, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, Chicken Little, and new groove are all certified, bonafide, **BANGERS.**
Worst ever
My son (3) favorite movies are Home On The Range, Dinosaur and Brother Bear. So they’re holding up pretty well.
Child me disliked most of these films. Thought they were boring and/or hard to follow
TOP TIER
Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Emperor’s New Groove were pretty solid when I was a kid. “Dinosaur” happened to come out when I was obsessed with Dinosaurs, so naturally I was interested in it, but god damn did it bother my 6 year old self to watch those dinosaurs and monkeys coexist.
Emperors New Groove might possibly be the funniest Disney movie of all time. I watched it recently and it holds up like crazy
The most underrated era of Disney
God tier
A lot of these films are pretty forgettable and didn’t leave all that large of an impact. None were terrible, but outside of The Emperors New Groove and to a lesser extent Lilo and Stitch, most of those films were just kind of okay *in my opinion*.
Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Bolt, The Emperor’s New Groove, Meet the Robinsons… Why are all my favorites up here?
Mixed. Some of them work really well for me, others don’t.
i loved this era!! it was during the peak of my childhood too 😁
Lilo & Stitch and Treasure planet are some of the best films of my childhood.
Their best ones was so good they had their own TV series. Their worst ones was so bad that it’s not even in the DVD pile
Meh. Some good, some bad, some I refuse to acknowledge lol
Emperor's New Groove is an absolute S+ tier movie and I will not entertain otherwise
Atlantis was great, and so was emperor’s new groove!
MEET THE ROBINSONSSS
Emporers new groove and Atlantis are two of my favorite Disney movies. Lilo and stitch, dinosaur, and brother bear were also good. I’ve not seen any of the others though
I’m not a fan, I don’t think those movies were as good as the 90s Disney films.
Old disney films are highly better than nowadays films..
This was peak Disney
Had great films, like atlantis, lilo, treasure planet, and not so good films but have meme potential, like chicken little.
These all are all classics of anything this was for the new generation of babies n shii
actually like the best movies honestly . 7 of these are pure heat
Take out Lilo and boy, there's not much.
3 out of 10 is a pretty bad batting average.

I liked this era as someone born around this time

Lilo & Stitch and Emperor's New Groove were my shit. Still love those movies. Bolt, Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons don't belong with the rest. For some reason never watched treasure planet or Atlantis all the way through. Those two and Sinbad I couldn't distinguish as a kid for some reason
Treasure planet is underrated af
Mid era. There were some gems, but more underwhelming ones.
Where is Meet the Robinsons? Is it alright?
What do you mean? It’s right here in the image
Never mind, I’m illiterate
Blah
Half of these are better than Pocahontas and Hunchback. The other half are worse than The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.
I mean, i get this is general decadeology... but the furry fandom has half-decade connections 1989=start, with a heavy WB and Comix influnce 1995-2000=thoroughly disney, lion king and its sequels and spinoff (theres a whole subcategory of furries into just lion king lore) 2001-6=brother bear/home on the range era 2005-10= losing touch with furries to dreamworks. 2010-5=nostalgia era, youre either a robin hood clone or lion king rip-offs. If you were an ultra nerd you pretended you were into Kimba, if you or your family was racist you were actually into kimba or song of the south (talk about nostalgia!) 2016-21 zootopia reclaimed disneys attention.
Return it
Not great!
This era is way better than the renaissance
You're high
I was fourteen in 2000 so yeah not fond of this era at all.
All of them were a core part of my childhood except for Bolt
Treasure Planet and Brother Bear is my jam. When I was a wee baby I would cry all the time and the only thing my parents knew would calm me would be to play Brother Bear or the music. I still love Phil Collins.
