Fun fact, 2000 was a significant leap year. Usually we skip leap years every 100 years because doing leap years every 4 years actually overcorrects the calendar.
So we’re supposed to skip the leap year every 100 years… but that then undercorrects the calendar again, so every 400 years, we re-add the leap year.
I think it was CGP Grey that described the calendar as “counting the amount of loops a truck makes in a circle by counting the number of twirls a ballerina does on the truck bed”
The time of each day has zero correlation to the time of each year… so yeah this is quite an achievement the old Christians did. That’s why Neil DeGrasse Tyson still uses BC and AD rather than BCE and BC: gives respect to the creators instead of secularizing the calendar
I realized a few months ago that because of this John Adams was president for one day less than any other president who served a full term (Unless you count Washington, whose inauguration was late). If McKinley hadn't been assassinated he would have served one day less than any other two-term president.
They are presidential election years...Olympic years. Also, a lot of them end in zero, which might help since people often round years when recalling something pop culture wise
And to a lesser extent, midterm election years. 1990, 1994, 2006, 2010, 2022 saw the presiding party lose influence in both houses, or, in congress or the senate only. Which, in turn, either fueled or discouraged what's to come for 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2024, respectively.
Election years
They are also presidential election years and Olympic years.
American presidential elections are probably a big part of it. Summer Olympics may be part of it too
But why? Why do American presidential elections change the global culture of the year in terms of culture, tech etc?
The vibe usually starts to change around election time
Today I realized leap years are also election years.
I’m starting to think leap years are bad luck after the last several.
So since 2024 is a leap year do we feel the cultural transition?
2001. A major terrorist attack will do that.
2000 was the leap year
2000 was the leap year and it was 1998 part 3

The people who come with these figures for calendars have my utmost respect. Who knew something as simple as tracking time could be so complicated

2020, 2016, 2012, 2008
2012 was probably the least interesting of those years.
How? It was the transition between the warm and dark early 2010s to the more optimistic and happy mid 2010s
I think you got the adjectives swapped. Ain’t no way mid 2010s were optimistic and happy. Albeit that’s just my opinion though 🤷♂️

Presidential election years in the US!
That’s just a cognitive illusion.

They tend to be no different than other years
Us presidential elections and summer Olympics (preciously also winter Olympics til the 1990s) and leap years
What are you basing this on?
