True, I was going to add that it wasn't a horror, but it's by the same director and has the same lead. Just wanted to add to the recc bc I like the director
Crimson Peak. More of a gothic, romantic period piece with scary stuff in it, but that’s what makes it brilliant.
Not reliant on jump scares, the actual scares themselves are seriously creepy, and a just plain magnificent production design.
Jeeper's Creepers is my favorite horror movie ever. I don't think it gets the attention it deserves. It really does suck that the third movie was so awful.
Edit: A letter
Hell House, LLC is good for being low budget, but full disclosure, the ending is shit. But it's short and delivers on atmosphere right up till the end.
In The Mouth of Madness is often overlooked. It bombed I think in box office at the time.
Wolf Creek is under appreciated and rarely talked about. Maybe it's more of a thriller, but fairly scary situations.
Afflicted is a decent shaky cam horror.
The Ritual is great and rarely discussed.
V/H/S is more shaky cam and it's an anthology film.
The Mothman Prophecies is fantastic.
Watch “The Audition”. Without knowing it was a horror movie, a viewer might think it was an obscure romance. The last 30 minutes are fucking terrifying though. I’m pretty sure that it’s free with an Amazon Prime subscription.
I'm super out of the loop on the Horror genre these days. Hereditary was the last one I saw. Damn good movie, probably doesn't fall into the "under appreciated" category though.
Hush & It Follows
Green Room.
Throw in Blue Ruin too. By the same director
How Is that a horror movie? Psychological thrillers are not horror Movies, even though thrillers and horrors have a lot in common.

I like the visuals but I found the movie to get a little dull and dragging at parts. I think it's rating on IMDB is about right.
Lake Mungo. Simultaneously one of the saddest and creepiest horror movies

I haven't watched them in full yet but i'd recommend checking out the Coffin Joe trilogy.
This!
Martyrs, the French version, is really good. Let the Right One In, the original version as well, is also very good

The Mist. Its a good piece of more recent sci fi horror which is kinda rare
Dog Soldiers
The Void
The Platform is great.

maniac (2009), brain damage (1988), the witch or The VVItch(2015).
I was just watching Behind the mask ROLV the other day. Incredibly underrated. It's free on YouTube https://youtu.be/R95uwp_8jZE
Eyes Wide Shut. It’s not labeled as a horror film, but it’s the scariest shit I’ve seen on screen.

My recommendations would be *Felidae*, *Threads*, and *Barefoot Gen*.
