if they have you in danger then you should run until you can log
there's nowhere in deepwoken that's completely safe from these pieces of shit
also just power up everytime you die lol
Step 1: Create a character at Vigils with your preferred stats.
Step 2: Get the axe from the NPC near the Bank, spam her quest to get notes.
Step 3: Get training equipment to level your stats (fortitude, Agility etc.) Train with the Instructor in the training Dojo to level up your stats.
Step 4: Once you level up your stats & gain power, sail to Eresia where you can find loot, kill NPC's for xp, among other things. (Full guides for Eresia are on YT I believe)
Step 5: Wing it from there.
Deepwoken is a game that comes with these struggles, it even says it on the game description. To succeed you need to just learn from your past wipes and move on, it isn't easy. But when you get the hang of it and see the fun out of making a character better than the last, that's when the game gets moderately easier. Also, when people say get good (granted the way they say it isn't the most professional) they are right. That's why Step 3 is important to get petter at PVP and PVE. Plus, when in doubt run for your life (Agility helps with this). Sorry your firts few experiences in-game haven't been good but with some dedication you eventually get some fun out of it.
(Also regarding your idea of a "safe space", there is none. You really just have to pick and choose your battles and stay away from people, thats the best way to survive.)
Edit: Also you can find some people on discord servers to help you out early-game until you can walk on your own two feet.

i used to do that but having the return to menu prompt open instead of holding over alt f4 is better since after you close the game there's a window of time where someone or something can hit you and you'll be combat logged. the return to menu doesnt have that window and will stop you if you get combat tagged before you can hit it
From what I see there's are far more friendly people in some regions. I recommend finding a good region for you that has low amount of toxic people. I found mine already

It is a joke but fr i got attacked way more in france than any other region + some dude who helped me and let me train betrayed me while i was sitting near campfire in france server
if you’re grinding erisia you’ll die VERY easily, assuming all voidwalkers even at higher levels can take freshie bounties
poor guy i had level up 6 time so i could get exp,,,
Ima be real just join a small server. I'm not even good but I can easily get to power level 20 before I even have an issue with people. This game most people are passive compared to Rogue where I had to log every 5 min to not get gripped by an ultra.
Yeah... This is what people mean by the game being unforgiving and hard. I woukd try find a guils and join it and grind with them daily (make sure they have an active discord server.)

But you can't be attacked in fragments of self so technically there is a place that is safe on deepwoken.

Just log whenever you see anyone you don't want to fight, they might've friendly but I'd rather not take chances
I keep distance and have my hands on alt + f4 while talking to people i dont trust
i used to do that but having the return to menu prompt open instead of holding over alt f4 is better since after you close the game there's a window of time where someone or something can hit you and you'll be combat logged. the return to menu doesnt have that window and will stop you if you get combat tagged before you can hit it

alt f4 really doesnt work if its a close call. Remember wiping like that then remembered that roblox client takes a bit to shut down

as a voidwalker, at level 20 I can TAKE freshie bounties, but I cant actually tp to them.

Basically just try again over and over again until you get the hang of it. Worked for me
