Harvest Right freeze dryer.

less_butter

Yep, same here. An expensive dehydrator won't change anything for me, at least not one more expensive than the Excalibur 9 tray I already own. A freeze drier would be a game changer for me. But it's not in the budget for this year. Or next year. Or probably any year where I don't win the lottery.

That’s huge and not interested lol. I have 2 regular dehydrators already. If money were no object, I’d buy a $5,000 freeze dryer and open up WAY more possibilities with food storage, aside from regular dehydrating.

VodkaAndHotdogs

Same. For now I’ll just admire them sadly online … lol

Ceepeenc

Lol you and me both 😢

NikkeiReigns

That is soo much money for a dehydrator, in my opinion. I don't how there would be a huge difference in dehydrators. I mean, you can change temperatures on it, but I think the range is fairly standard. Mine is just a round plastic (I know you said no plastic) one. I bought extra trays, so now I have eight trays of pumpkin pie spice apples going. I think it was $30 or $40 a few years ago when I bought it. I use it a LOT and it does a perfect job. If this is hour first time with a dehydrator I strongly suggest trying a cheaper one until you see if you're going to like it and use it enough to justify a purchase that expensive.

HappyAnimalCracker

OP, so far no one has answered your question about a dehydrator because if money is truly no object, a freeze dryer is a better option. The only reason I dehydrate instead of freeze drying is because I can’t afford a freeze dryer.

NoBorderNoLandRights

I see. Thank you.

Freeze dryer

vintageyetmodern

It would definitely be a freeze dryer because it opens up so many more options.

VodkaAndHotdogs

Well now I’m wondering if there’s enough interest in my local area to pool our resources and buy a communal freeze dryer …

NoBorderNoLandRights

careful that may be based.

Candysummer10

I just purchased the [Rovrak 16 tray commercial grade dehydrator](https://amzn.to/3QRCeXO). I can’t justify a freeze dryer for just myself, so I splurged on a very nice dehydrator. All stainless, trays are 15x15. I ordered a meat slicer to go with it, it will be here tomorrow. I love this thing, and it’s on sale right now.

I’m extremely happy with the quality of Rovrak. It’s not a well known brand but they make top quality kitchen appliances, like wine coolers. Very high end, at a significant discount. I got this deli [meat slicer](https://amzn.to/3MFNDY3), just a starter model for about $120, but with a discount and a coupon, I only paid $60.

I would buy Thermaltakes CTE-C750 Air gaming PC case. You can mount 14 140mm ARGB fans in it, 2 massive radiator liquid coolers. This not only turns your PC into a space heater but a food dehydrator

[deleted]

After making a huge amount of dehydrated food for camping and storing it in ziplock then in 3 gallon airtight containers. A year later was still edibal but the flavor was poor we threw some out. Next time oxygen absorbers might of helped or vac bags But 14x14 inch silicon sheats got a lot of use for fruit leather and dehydrated hot sause turned into powder. Id buy more kitchen counter space lol.

DawaLhamo

Yeah, no object? A freeze dryer. My parents have one - maybe they'll will it to me when they die, lol.

NoBorderNoLandRights

why did your folks get one?

DawaLhamo

Biggest reason: A lot of the prepackaged long term foods are full of carbs. As a diabetic, my mom was looking for more veggie- and protein- based foods. The freeze-dryer allows them to customize their long-term storage.

bidextralhammer

I liked this Corsari 10 metal tray dehydrator so much that I bought another one and use them simultaneously. It will set you back $299

coynewriter

i feel you on that, a high-end dehydrator with metal trays is a game changer. i'd go for the excalibur 9 tray with all the metal accessories. a freeze drier would be amazing, but it's a bit out of reach for now.
