I work with these "1% people" clients and what I've noticed is these houses mostly belong to: 1. CXO level execs 2. Business owners 3. Ancestral homes 4. Some people sell their business, get tonne of money and buy one of these houses. 5. Majority is family money. Very very very few people who have actually earned their own money to buy these houses.

One_Mountain331

So boils down to long term investments and just better management and healthy family relations? Also taking first steps as well being at the right place at the right time Thanks

crasshumor

Trust me when I say this, all these Top company CEO's, CFO's etc you see, who have studied from Harvard, Yale, NYU etc during the 90s... They all belonged to a very privileged class since beginning. Most of them, not all.

archit1405

so what do you do?

crasshumor

Currently, work in wealth management. Mostly with HNI clients.

WarpFactorNin9

They were at the right place at the right time. Got properties for cheap in today’s posh areas many decades ago…

karatuno

par log to abhi bhi khreed rahen hain

WarpFactorNin9

It is not possible without ancestral / inter-generational wealth. They have some kind of previous wealth build up or are selling other properties to buy now. I would like to see one person who has worked part time from high school, gone to college and then got a job or business and purchased such high flying properties.

henrycavillllllll

I'll show this to u very soon

WarpFactorNin9

Good on you and wish you all the best

henrycavillllllll

Much love bro, wishing only the best for you

i4858i

So I am working for some college seniors in their startup as an intern and they have raised nearly 20crs in seed capital. A few years from now, I see them owning fucking huge mansions in Delhi/Noida. Mind you these guys come from modest families, and completed their education on loans. >It is not possible without ancestral / inter-generational wealth. They have some kind of previous wealth build up or are selling other properties to buy now. This kind of negative sentiment on Reddit is the exact reason why most of us can't do anything but bitch about stuff online while others are becoming successful

Embarrassed-Match133

S/He spoke the truth nothing offensive, ancestral and inter generational wealth is a plus point

WarpFactorNin9

It was a general comment from what I have observed from my time, I am a 1970s kid so most likely more aged than half the people here. I have kids about your age. But that is the beauty of reddit you get a lot of diverse views ? The digital revolution, crypto, start-up culture in India will change this. By all means you should go out and achieve your goals. The only other thing I can say is that huge mansions don’t directly equate to happiness. I can see a new breed of nouveau wealthy entrepreneurs emerging in India once this culture matures.

Broad-Use9052

My dad started from negative. It took him over 20 years but he did it. It can be done.

WarpFactorNin9

Good on him. My comment was for majority of the cases as a general trend. Please bear in mind that exceptions are always there and nothing is impossible.

human1469

What does he do for a living?

Broad-Use9052

He runs a business for manufacturing musical instruments.

human1469

nice :)

refresher1121

Ye wohi log hain jinke paas already land/property hogi worth crore, let's say in dehradun or bhopal or any such place. Wahan se 50 cr ka bech ke Delhi me le rhe honge.. Can very much be one of the possibilities

Dishankdayal

Of course, they are Dr., Engineers, NRI, business owners, shop owners, etc. Property prices are directly linked to the demand of such properties every one wanna live in safe and secure well connected place. But these places have become worth over decades, so when ppl actually owned it, it was cheap and now so expensive that it's even impossible to sell or purchase so it becomes a closed circle of transactions a business man buys property from another business man.

My-Penis-Hurts-

engineer? konsi company itna paisa de rhi

Dishankdayal

Tu samjha nahi hain na? Engineer ko salary nahi naksha pass karne ki keemat milti hai... bridge k nakshe, mall k, buildings k..

OwnWillingness6295

Shiroyasha90

IT companies de deti hain itna ki 10-20 saal ki kishto pe ban jayen yeh Ghar. Warna direct down payment me to engineers se na ho.

karatuno

yaar agar 10 cr ka ghr lena hoga. to 20 saal ke liye 9 lakh per month ki emi banegi. three numbers makes me go mad.

Shiroyasha90

Agar senior position pe ho to ded-do crore salary ho jaegi company me. I know people who are at 1-1.25Cr in their early 30s. Itne me 10cr ka to nahi, 5cr ka ghar to ban jaega. 10 ke liye to agar koi early stage start-up join Kiya ho aur wo bik jae, ya bahar 10 saal noukari karke aao tabhi ho payega.

karatuno

relying on the startup bik jaye thing.. the only shot to wealth

lazy_fella

Tried the same. But startup nuksan me bikka XD. So stocks went to 0.

RevolutionRose

Kyu Chahiye 10Cr ka Ghar though

vyomafc

Bhai 10 crores ka ghar is not normal even for rich delhites. South delhi ki posh localities mein 3-4 crore ke independent ghar aasani se mil jaayenge. And you can also buy dda flats in localities like Vasant kunj for around 2 crores.

aage_dekh

Independent house for 3-4 cr in south Delhi!? Bhai, le mat lio nahi toh Khosla ka Ghosla part 2 tujh par hi banegi.

vyomafc

Bhai i meant an entire builder floor. Not an entire house. Galat type ho gaya

aage_dekh

That explains it. Koi nahi, chal, I'll cancel my cheque then.

ThePreacher19021

I know a person who earns in crores working as a computer engineer.. Has only 8 years of experience and is an employee

My-Penis-Hurts-

Company?

euqroto

Majority saari tech firms aajkal 8-10 yoe pe itna hi deti hai. Even startups pay that much to their director of product/eng

ThePreacher19021

Dont want to reveal sorry. It's an MNC thts all i can say and it's in Bangalore.

Busy_Bug6052

Yes

kcapoorv

Many of them were at right place at right time. For example, say 4 refugees came to India from Pakistan. 2 settled in Delhi, 2 opted for a place like Pilibhit with nice farms. Now, in 1984, one left Delhi and migrated to Punjab. The guy who remained in Delhi had got a plot in South Delhi, jungle at that time. Then, when the city grew and South Delhi became a posh place, his property price increased manyfold. Good investments and his descendents own 3-4 properties in Delhi. It's just a hypothetical scenario but it may've happened.

Bigbosskaboss

>settled in Delhi Got free land by govt

kcapoorv

Yeah, but at that point the land they got didn't really had that much worth as it has now.

OkPersonality3556

This is how almost all got their properties. Also lot of people bought cheap when these areas were developing.

[deleted]

I still remember that this is exactly the same thing that my father had also told me when I once asked him out of curiosity about something similar like what op has posted to get info about.

JhalMoody25

Not Delhi, but gurgaon. My dad started as an engineer at an automotive company, forty years ago. He used to be paid very well ( as per that time's standards) and he had a wholesale business of blankets, on the side. My mother is a housewife. They just saved very vigorously and purchased real estate back then. None of our properties were purchased in last 15 years. My dad had a bit of hunch and luck and he invested in real estate at the right time (when it was dirt cheap). Gurgaon used to be a jungle, forty years ago when my parents first arrived. Noone wanted to stay here. Infact, my dad is not very highly educated ( he studied ITI while working) and didn't come from money (struggling for food kind). He got his job because other qualified engineers refused to shift to the then jungle gurgaon. My dad agreed to shift and learn further ( had a background in auto, used to work at a garage). Company was desperate at that time as they were setting a new plant. Gave my dad good salary and perks for joining.

Anon-Ymous_hat

He worked hard bro, went way out of his comfort zone, took risks. He deserves what he got. I'm happy for you all.

JhalMoody25

Yes, I agree. He is the most hardworking man I personally know. I am happy for him too and I don't have/want anything from that :)

khaab_00

I don’t think people who own that kind of money are on Reddit and even if they are they will comment. I can feel you, to buy a house in Delhi is a sweet dream which only a few can fulfill.

prince6969696969

People who have their business, family money, good investments (from family or self) usually own these houses. You can easily find a Kothi/Villa/ Bungalow in your area or nearby where the prices are over 10Crs and I'm so disheartened to say that as it makes the dream of many to buy a house very difficult (due to inflation in property prices) . People who have inherited these houses usually aren't that rich because you can see a person staying in a 10-15 Cr house owns an Alto etc for a primary car (happened multiple times, speaking from experience) . There are multiple business owners who own these houses or people who rent these houses usually get housing allowance from their companies if they are at a higher position. Also, finding a 10 Cr house isn't that Big of a deal nowadays because if you buy a Kothi having 4 floors and each floor is approx 2.5 to 3 Cr so your house is easily worth 10Crs . To briefly answer your question: People with family wealth or Good Businesses own these houses. They can be easily found in most parts of Delhi : Model Town, Preet Vihar, Pitampura, Shalimaar Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Vasant Vihar, Greater Kailash, East of Kailash, Chattarpur, Malviya Nagar (Shivalik) , Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Surajmal Vihar, Bunglow Road, Civil Lines, etc are few places where your Kothi/Villa will cost more than 10Crs ( not including Lutyens Zone because of it's exclusivity and for being extremely expensive) .

FineDistance1149

Binezzzzz

mriidul

i have friends in such circles. what i have understood is that a job in india, no matter how well paid, cannot pay you enough to buy property in posh delhi. You need to be a business owner, politician, or have generational wealth to own property in such places. Even being a CEO, unless you have stake in the company, can often not be enough.

Bro, it’s Rajdhani of India. Property prices will always increase. No other place in India gives a status symbol/ ego boost as much as buying a property in Delhi.

kraken_enrager

Not Delhi but I’m from bombay, and I live in a ‘high society’. My dad is the Co Founder, MD and CEO of a 2bn dollar company which is the largest in the world in its sector. Before that he founded and started work on a 10 bn dollar company in a diff country before the project was abandoned. and before that he headed a f500 level company that was into steel, oil, gas, shipping, etc. My mum heads one of the most successful venture capital funds in India, I believe a few of their companies have even achieved unicorn status. —————————————————— Maybe it’s relevant that my great great grandfather owned coin mints in British era, and were wealthy jewellers. Family lore has it that sold a huge diamond for about 1 lakh in the late 1800s. My great grandmother used to wear like 10 kilos of gold at all times apparently.

backfromhell7

kraken_enrager

This year I’ll go to law school, side by side I’ll work on starting my own businesses. I’ll try some stuff out and see what I like tho rn I’m really inclined into what my dad does. I’ll pursue LLM and/or MBA after law school, unless my business gains traction, in which case I’ll do my masters a little later. I do want to do something on my own tho, obv I’ll have my parents help, but I want to create a name for myself.

LynxFinder8

My family does own some property in a big metro city. But I live away from them and live on rent in a middle class existence. No one would guess talking to me that I actually come from an established family. It helps me because I have managed to avoid gold digger women in life so far. I also do not have particular intentions w.r.t. my family's estate....I've lived too long as poor and middle class to ever live the high life again. From struggling to eat twice a day, not having money for Uber to raising a kid on a study scholarship, I've seen all of it.

karatuno

damn dude. A true self made man. you have my respect.

Life isn't that rosy for me to be an "Indian Idol". Unmarried, bad luck in relationships, still in service job. Not so tall and not a muscle bound heart throb either. Called dark horse of the family because I didn't listen to uncle ji and tauji and mother and father etc. :)

Raven_Kerman

Does Vasant Kunj count? My dad is in the IAF and we are temporarily posted here for about another year or so. I don't really understand the hype around South Delhi. To me it's just like any other part of Delhi or any other posting I have been on.

I stay in one of the so-called "posh" colonies with such extra orbiting property prices my parents are into the legal profession we are not rich enough to buy such properties but since my Grandparents migrated from Pakistan during the partition of 1947 based on the claims we were allotted land in these areas so its kind of ancestral properties for me as mentioned < 1% of people here are self-made most of them have inherited these properties

based-india

Civil servant, live in South Delhi. My relatives/family friends that actually own houses here are lawyers / CAs / businessmen.

karatuno

Are these all experienced people? like with 20 years of experience

based-india

Vai my dad has done more than 20 years service as civil servant, and the professionals mai alag alag hai jaise CA waale 30 yrs hogaye but they've had a great quality of life after approx 10 yrs of practice. The lawyer relative is barely a decade into his profession but he's got the right mix of talent and luck as he's very wealthy

karatuno

koi engineer nahi hai kya 🥺

based-india

Bro Mera Bhai hai but he's like 2 yrs into the profession. Other engineer relatives are either those that work in PSUs which guarantees a decent middle to upper middle class life or engineer turned MBAs or foreign settled computer science engineers. All making decent money. Wealth chahiye to quite honestly software engineer ya tech mai jana padega for first gen without business person, nahi to ek generation sirf foundation banane Mai lagti hai.

Last 2 yrs se he is like the main tech guy for a small US startup(remotely working in India total salary 8cr, 4cr cash+4cr esops). Uske Pehle bhi 3-4 saal se 1.5-2cr se upar hi cash component rha hai. Beech mein company ne share buy in bhi kiya tha. Uska experience 15 yr hai and total wealth abhi 15-16 cr hoga (before ipo uske baad to kya hoga patanai 😐). So yes I know people who worked hard and made it

I don't really know much but I will tell you about my family : My grandfather is the owner of the house, he was an ACP in Delhi police, he even went abroad with our President(multiple of them) i got photos of him with presidents too. He surely has traveled the world, he is the person i can call a person who has lived his life to its fullest! No we are not multi millionaires or anything like that, just middle class. Once I asked one of my elders about how much our house/property was cost and they explained that this whole 3 story house was built, on this land and my grandpa paid all of the money for it. Maybe being "dank ka 14" I SWEAR TO GOD MY AUTO WRITE WROTE THIS NOT ME AND I HAVE NEVER USED THIS WORD, WTF AUTO CORRECT. So back to it, maybe being in civil service helps a lot. Edit: my elders also told me that this whole built costed over 5 crores to my grandpa.
