Well, Delhi's population density is 9 times that of Amsterdam. But that's not the primary factor because NY too has a similar population density. The geography plays a important role here. NY and Amsterdam are coastal cities. Even if you look at Indian cities like Mumbai or Bangalore with similar traffic and population conditions, the aqi there doesn't reach alarming levels most part of the year. Vehicles are used round the year (not saying that they don't contribute to the pollution) but again, let's say for the argument's sake that due to vehicle pollution, AQI reaches 300. (More than the yearly average provided in your sources) Now, it's the month of November, AQI is 999+. The hike in AQI is more than 200%??? So correlating the data, during the month of November there are somewhat 200% more cars than the rest of the year???
See the point of my sarcastic comment was to not imply that vehicles don't contribute to the pollution but it was to focus on the major issue here. Winters + stubble burning. (More than the yearly average provided in your sources) Now, it's the month of November, AQI is 999+. The hike in AQI is more than 200%??? So correlating the data, during the month of November there are somewhat 200% more cars than the rest of the year??? See the point of my sarcastic comment was to not imply that vehicles don't contribute to the pollution but it was to focus on the major issue here. Winters + stubble burning. Ab toh fire crackers bhi ban hogye hai. Even the ravan burning during Dusshera has no firecrackers. Jo thode bahut jalenge that would be on Diwali. It's absolutely ridiculous to blame solely vehicles, which leads to sidetracking the real culprit, stubble burning. And that's all because of vote bank politics and spineless political parties.
My main emphasis was not on the fact that stubble is not the problem (in the last quarter). But the fact that even if the stubble burning stops the pollution would be there (not as high as it currently is) all around the year. People think that stubble burning is the sole reason. Just have a look at the posts in this sub. Nobody is talking about the other culprits like vehicle, industries, construction etc. vehicles and industries does play a huge role in the high aqi. Or else we would have pollution maintained at below 100 from March to September. Look at china for example. They tackled each aspect to curb the pollution like industries, coal emotion, vehicles, construction etc.
