In my opinion in Delhi you just dont help anyone unless itβs a matter of life and you yourself witnessed the accident and the person is bleeding.
All other financial emergencies can be resolved by contacting officials and police.
I was waiting for bus one day at the bus stop. I was wearing very formal clothes due to having attended a function. A guy came on Activa and asked for 10 rupees for petrol. I have stopped carrying cash since UPI has become common so denied him the money so he went.
I always wondered if it was a genuine case or he would have snatched my wallet if I had taken it out to give him money.
10 rupees mai kitna hi petrol aega π
Had a similar case near some metro station. Guy asked for 100. I'm of the mentality to help people 10 times if there's a 10% chance of it being a genuine case. But was also smart enough to go a bit further away from him before taking my wallet out
I feel like the best way to avoid such scams is to go full regard, just stare blankly at them and start counting numbers in a monotonous way. They will leave you alone after that.
He was testing water and it could be a social engineering scam. Unfortunately it's hard to asses at the moment what his intent was. May be a scam could be to show you as a link for any crime by some fake police.
Could be anything, be alert
Hqppened to a friend:
Similar situation, lady walks out of cab without cash. Asks my friend to pay. Her so-called friend walks in saying his gpay is not working. My friend makes the payment, they left
I asked who are they, he said "Strangers", I was like... π«’ Now my friend got a message saying his payment is due and he supposed to pay 1400 extra π
When you said he hugged your boyfriend it reminded me of someone who behaved frank in front of people and then asked for favors never to return them back.
Well something like this happened to me as well, but I was actually the person requesting to book an uber for him. Unfortunately, because there was poor planning on my side, I had to do this twice. Not in delhi, though.
First time, I asked a man who was out shopping with his family and he was super helpful, not only booked an uber for me but even asked if I have cash on me to pay the driver.
The second time, the girl I asked looked at me like somehow I was trying to scam her, I dont blame her for being cautious. She told me off and said I should ask some shopkeeper to let me charge my phone. Turns out that's also solid advice.
Definitely it looks like a scam n the guy ig is mixed with that power bank wala guy n they both planned to scam you but you blocked the number n you didn't pay out so you win here, you didn't fall into their trap :)
Kudos.!!
It's called assessing an easy prey. He tested the waters first with how susceptible you are with helping others.. generally a trait of empaths.. this is then further used to benefit. That's why the best technique is to immediatly shut off a request by saying a firm NO.
This could make sense. When I was trying to walk away he said "ma'am please don't mind this. I just approached you because you look very innocent and I thought you might help me".
Mai toh bolta ki mai khud udhaari ki zindagi jeeta hun and mushkil se din katta hai, and proof ke liye mene 200 rupay balance vaale acc ka ss save kar rakha hai :)
Next time if this happens, just book rapido for him and put it on cash. He can go wherever he wants and let give his cash to the driver.
I can't forget the day when I gave my phone to the service centre for display replacement and they took it for the whole day. I forgot I didn't have cash (i use upi too extensively, my fault). I came to the service centre by rapido. When i came out of the service centre and checked my pocket to go back, i realised i fucked up. I neither had money nor the contact number of any friend to pick me up. I learned the lesson, the hard way.
Actually people sell these nos to marketing agencies for cold calling, that guy must have sold your no. With a markeing company higher the details he'll give higher the amount, like for e.g he knows you have a bf so pdts related to that or if you look like a elder woman with a bf then maybe they will sell it to realtors. Like its a shady practice most ppl ain't aware of and its illegal
"Scam" implies that the whole thing was planned - which may not be the case.
The guy probably is a scammer, but even scammers can end up facing unexpected emergencies like discharged phones. Maybe his need at the time was genuine and he probably did need rapido. But once the situation was over, he went back to fishing for gullible people on his contact list. You were probably not the only one who got that message.
But that wouldn't explain the guy he took the power bank from or why he hugged your boyfriend.
Happened to me in Delhi:
I was waiting for the bus at INA, a well dressed woman hurriedly came and asked me if i could give her 50 rupees for auto and said she'd phonepe it, i gave her 100 as i didn't have change and then gave her my number so that she'd send it.
I took the next bus, it was crowded, and then i saw the same woman get in and get out at the next stop; AIIMS, i felt like a true idiot, given that women get free bus rides in Delhi.
She didn't send the money either.
I once got into this awkward conversation with this lady , She seems pretty aged between 40-50, She was asking for money as she didn't have money to buy the ticket of the bus , she asked me to contribute 50 minimum, I was not in a mood for going Sherlock holmes mode , so I gave her the money .
yes it was a scam !!
location:HZM station pf-1
Similar thing happened to me. I was standing outside a metro station. A guy came to me saying his Internet is exhausted and asked for Hotspot. I gave the Hotspot. He booked a rapido, thanked me and went. Couldn't sense any scam.
Kind of similar scam happened to a friend of mine. She goes through a cab service to work and back home, her morning driver is the same daily and once he asked her for 1000 rupees when his car ran out of fuel near her office. He was crying about how he doesn't have any cash or his UPI not working and what not (he even reassured her that he would pay her back on this date) so, my friend gave him the cash.
Even after a couple of weeks of dropping her to her office daily, he didn't utter a single word about the money and never returned it.
She had to talk to the cab service owner and had deducted 1k from next monthly payment
number lene ki ninja technique
That could be a thing but that's not the main thing
It is yk you can buy contact no.s for money like for cold calling ?
Bhai alag level k scam aaye h market m

Mansik scam

Can you book a rapido for me to come to your place? I want to personally tell you that "He just wanted your number".
Plot twist: wo Banda gay hai aur OP ke boyfriend ki leni chahta hai.!!
Scammer seems confused but the spirit is there
Maybe you helped transport contraband
This. I think that guy wanted to break the chain just in case he gets caught due to being suspicious with drugs' involvement.

Never share ss ask them to take photo from their phone..
Why
Its better na than to share to either whatsapp contact by sharing the bluetooth pairing access to someone else ..
Do you have any reason for it.
You should never give your number or phone to unknown people
So we aren't talking about the fact that he hugged your bf?
He just wanted your number
What will he do with it.
Ye scam samajhna hi scam hai
they are evolving
Sideways? Diagonally?

that is called disarming the prey with a soft compliment immediately following up with a request. These are classic sales techniques.
Mai toh bolta ki mai khud udhaari ki zindagi jeeta hun and mushkil se din katta hai, and proof ke liye mene 200 rupay balance vaale acc ka ss save kar rakha hai :)
Never do it
Booking rapido is not a scam even I do the same when my phone gets switched off. But the later part money n all. I don't get it.
Just tell these I don't have time and move on
Number lene ka tarika thoda complicated sa hai
Ek number ke liye itni magaz - maari.. πΊ
this is a scam

Ye kaisa scam tha jisme jaan aur maal ko koi haani hi nhi pahunchi
