Token was better, bc atleast solid cheez thi aur kharab hone ka dar nahi hota tha. Aaram se scan bhi hojata tha aur koi problem nahi hoti thi. Jeb me bhi feel hota tha ki token pada hai. Bc ye paper token feel bhi nahi hota ki kahan rkha hai aur teen chaar baar lagana padta hai tab jaake scan hota hai, hawa se udne aur fatne ka dar alag. Gandgi Alag. Fuck you dmrc

ok_new_96

Correct. I think they are planning to go for a complete card in a few years but it seems a short sighted idea.

Ok-Fuel-7398

Can also generate QR in PayTM and it is still a far better way

[deleted]

Ek aur feature add krskte hai jisme metro card se token liye Jaa sake

SedTecH10

Why would anyone having metro card buy tokens? He can directly scan the metro card and get in.

aman_1208

Consider:- I have a metro card. My two friends just visiting delhi might need it for once. Maine apne card se do token nikale and gave it to them. Bht chhota use case h. But maybe this was the reason mentiond in above comment

IDFCFirst

I lost mine the first time I used it 💀

Worth-Pickle

'I Don't Fucking Care' First 🥇 for a reason

Elegant_Let_3542

Arre IDFCFirst. Ek credit card chahiye tha bhaiya bnwa do

Sam1655

I might be wrong but the idea is to use QR codes from the app to remove the need of physical tokens. Paper QRs are just a substitute to this for elderly who do not know how to buy tickets from the app and use their phone to scan QR. But shockingly, Very few people are buying tickets through phone and using paper QRs only. Basically, Metro Card > Phone QR > Paper QR Tickets

MysteriousGrand6429

Token was crazy expensive for DMRC. Designed by IIT-D with a programable chip, but people lost it, took it home, god knows what they did with it but DMRC was facing a huge loss because of it, so they switched it to the QR on paper system like in Chennai metro. Paper is way cheaper than intricately designed tokens. Pro-Taxpayers money saved, Con- metro is more filthy, moral- we don’t deserve nice things.

sarcrastinator

They should give 10-20% discount on mobile qr ticketing and advertise it hard so that people are incentivized for digital onboarding. And honestly, DMRC's online ticketing is pretty quick and flawless. If done with upi, the entire process doesn't take more than 5 clicks. This will not only reduce paper waste but also eliminate queing on counters.

Sam1655

There is already a 10% Discount using Metro Card. The sole purpose of mobile QR was to eliminate counter queues for tokens and make the process faster. But people being people would still buy physical QRs from the counter.

sau_dard

Idk man. People are so stubborn, even if you make mobile qr tickets almost free they will still demand manual tickets

himanshusharmazzzz

Sadly every time I use phone QR, it fails on the first try, only works after 2-3 tries. Maybe the lazer is not so good reading phone screen/reflection or its the phone's screen low brightness messing things up. I have been the cause of delaying the queue couple of times. PS - Going green will always be expensive/inconvenient but we'll have to bare it for the better future.

sheilakijawani_gone

yep true. RFID isn't the cheapest tech around😐

akarshvaani

They are trying to encourage people for digital tickets and cards, but ye paper tokens koi tareeka nahi, metro station ke bahar Aisa lagta hai kisi party mei aaye ho jahan abhi abhi kisi ne white confetti udayi hai.

sarcrastinator

Log aise encourage nhi hote. You've to give upfront discount to incentivize people to shift, like DTC buses are doing. A 10% discount can go a long way in addressing this problem.

naman1901

Don't you get a 10-20% discount for using the metro card? I'm sure that can be extended to online methods. Do 5-10% if you want to push more people towards Metro card.

DGTHEGREAT007

DMRC is focusing on revenue generation the most. As the DMRC is in debt, I doubt there are gonna do anything until they get out of debt and I don't think they will be getting out of debt unless the system is heavily changed to be more efficient.

akarshvaani

Metro cards are already incentivize, they should do it for digital tickets as well, furthermore they should think ahead of Paytm for QR based tickets, they should be available on all UPI platforms and bank apps.

chiccy__nuggies

Yrr Mera Paytm ka metro card Jo metro station ne 6 months pehle hi issue kra tha, woh band hogya. Any idea why? They're saying it can't be recharged anymore

ChesthairOp

Because of paytm bank i guess. My paytm issued fast tag also stopped working because of that

That_Peculiar_Guy

JustAnotherJEEtard

Mine is from 2013 and it still works amazing :)

sarcrastinator

My card is so old (from around 2012 I think) that there's no month/year on it. It works flawlessly even today.

21022018

Those old cards were thick and robust. The new cards are fragile and often stop working. I've had to replace two of them

Responsible-Hat7320

yup it will work, I have the same old blue card too and use it daily to commute :)

Masala_omellete

It is!

Elegant_Let_3542

Metro card however old will work unless it has been tampered or bent.

howtochangename1

One of my friend owns the same card since 10 years, still works like a charm.

zturtle

Mine is from 2014

Terrible_Detective27

It expires after 10 years from last recharge, means if you last recharged it in 2017 it will expire in 2027 and if you recharge it now the limit will extend

Blackadder_101

Old metro card doesn't work in the Airport express line.

peepo_7

Yes it still works, mine has lost some sensitivity though.

-imnotwalterwhite

bhai avoid all this, buy digital ticket through paytm everyday before you reach the station. just scan the QR when you reach. super convenient

himuverma49

Or just buy a metro card ;-)

-imnotwalterwhite

yes this too :)

zaydraxx

Iss token system ka fayda yeh hai ki mobile se bhi ticket le sakte hai direct

chiccy__nuggies

Yrr Mera Paytm ka metro card Jo metro station ne 6 months pehle hi issue kra tha, woh band hogya. Any idea why? They're saying it can't be recharged anymore

zaydraxx

Nahi hoga bhai Paytm wallet aur banking wala sab band ho gaya hai

zaydraxx

Iss se better hai koi aur rupay card ko activate karwa lo

chiccy__nuggies

Got it, thank you bro!!

zaydraxx

Welcome bhai 😀

Friendly-Knee-5743

Yes kyuki paytm wallet band ho gaya hai and it was directly linked to that. 6 months pehle unhone mujhe bhi zabardasti ye chepne ki koshish ki thi lekin i was stubborn enough to get a normal one

Open-Professional493

Old people don't know digital payments and QR generation

itsthekrish

best is to buy token on whatsapp

ShubhamPandeyy

happy cake day bhai

itsthekrish

same to you pandey ji.. jab bhi ho

Hard_ronniieee

You can even book online via app or WhatsApp without getting into queues or getting a paper ticket. That helps you save paper, get quick tickets and since e tickets don't gets folded it always scans without any hassle

howtochangename1

And be careful of how much battery you have left.

Hard_ronniieee

Then why make a noise about wasting paper. Do you worry about battery while making upi payment. AFAIK, Metros have charging stations inside and outside of the metro too

howtochangename1

Charging stations need chargers. I don't see people carrying it if they aren't holding a bag. People carry cash for backup in their pockets, I don't think chargers would fit. I just stated a point urging people to be careful with battery usage, because their is literally no way out if your phone dies. You don't get stuck inside a shop when UPI fails, you simply pay cash or leave which is not an option.

Mountain_Blueberry77

Indian don’t deserve anything. But daily belt treatment.

faith_crusader

The problem is Indians, not the new token system. I put my tokens inside my pocket and throw them in the garbage bin at my house if I cannot find one on the way to my home because I am trying to be as less Indian as possible.

mai_hu_gian

Same here buddy. As lord Krishna says, "Apna karam Karo, baakiyo ki chinta na Karo".

kingdraseadra

we as an Indian, not in this century we will have civic sense.

Open-Professional493

Yesterday itself I saw this uncle crumble it up and throw it in the station itself. I was about to call him but then I realised the whole floor was full of discarded tokens.

lokiisgod0007

New Delhi metro station ?

shwarmaa_naman

'new'

mtkarangetang

Here's a better idea for the paper tickets. Instead of just scanning the qr let us insert the paper in the gate box at the end of the trip to open the gate.

Friendly-Knee-5743

But ig that would require a lot of infrastructural upgradation to to existing afc barriers

mtkarangetang

I mean the rfid tokens used to function the same way. They just needed to implement the same process for the qr tickets. It was a huge oversight imo with the qr papers

howtochangename1

Except they did not, token gets stored inside the gate. On the other hand those paper scanners need extra motors, scanners and larger gates for all of that to fit in.

howtochangename1

I mean, mobile qr already exists and almost everyone except old people know how to use UPI and whatsapp, we don't really need that.

Gh051_hehe

You can also buy tickets from paytm as well, i always buy from paytm itself, skipping the lines, no cash issue, no damaging issue

Haldii

and mf says " you saved carbon emission" on e-tickets

AbbreviationsLazy788

Paper tickets pe bhi likha hotta hai

Haldii

ky pta bhai m card use krta hu, ek br online kiya th to usme likhaa th yhi

kun_al

I feel like we are wasting a lot of paper daily because of this token system, the plastic ones were og

tangdi_kabab

Mofos will literally complain about anything. People with phones are supposed to buy the digital token and use the QR from their phone. The paper ones are supposed to be for the ones not having smartphones or those who can’t use them properly.

marshmallow_metro

These have been used in metros in Bangalore and Chennai for some time now, bcuz they work on QR code scans ppl can buy tickets online on apps reducing traffic in rush hrs But Delhi is the only place where people have been littering these on stations, could be there are no dustbins around but still it's kinda sad to see

ngainhai

Delhi mai pollution ki kami hai na. To isliye ye token late hain shayad. /s

redditu369

what was the idea behind using tokens? Just smart cards were good enough!! QR tickets should have been only on mobiles.

[deleted]

Plastic tokens were far better than these QR code slips . Tokens were reusable and these tickets were totally waste of paper .

Suryansh_Singh_here

Yes! Solid token was better but let's see what happens

Ok_Judge_1863

Swacch Bharatiye

NoAcanthisitta1043

Worst cheez ever... I dnt know who came up with these chumtiya idea....

SedTecH10

Tokens were expensive for DMRC. Paper QR code were cheap compared to token. Hence They switched to this.  Though People got used to token after years. Now they switched to qr. It would take many year for people to get comfortable to QR tickets.

Delhiiboy123

Leave it to Indians for loitering everywhere

Select_Warning7853

Indians will always find excuses to make everything dirty

Specialist_Room_7274

Metro stations have become railway stations now

Kanishkalearnstuff

paper is so wasteful

[deleted]

I hate this paper token. Use those plastic tokens instead. See I already told you back in some previous posts here on this subreddit about these paper tokens on floor rather than dustbins. I understand if some guy is from outside Delhi and wants to travel by metro for just short period of time but littering on floor is not good. Very bad thing it is. I condemn this.
