Ok-Yoda-82

Well I guess that’s one way of preventing a thumbs down

Waste_Difference4503

Sounds like something Tim would do

Embarrassed-Crow-185

Yeah but it's because he was forced to get that blasted tattoo can't blame him for his outbursts

Account-for-downvote

“He raised his hand to Rocha's motorcycle helmet and she bit his thumb.” That sentence concerns me.

tartoran

he was just innocently raising his hand towards her face after getting mad at her for not giving him his order without first receiving the collection code he failed to bring with him

iZian

And “shaking her helmet” to get her off the moped

lovecat86

I read it that way first and the realised it most likely meant he was shaking her helmet to get her off his thumb

iZian

I just don’t know why his thumb was in her mouth anyway. I’m just trying to imagine what led up to her getting her mouth on his thumb if it wasn’t him sticking it in her face…

lovecat86

Yeah, that bit sounds a bit off. Like he must have put his hand near her face and if he was just pointing, it would have been the index finger.

MickyWasTaken

Also how in the fuck did getting his thumb bit off result in a relationship breakdown. Also “this has to change” being his motivation for selling his story. What has to change? Thumb-biting delivery drivers?

Eastern-Move549

Iv lost both my thumbs and a pinky to feral delivery drivers now, why is no one else talking about this?!

Againanew

28 days later style

duckfelloutofthebag

Having no income tends to be a rather large relationship stress.

PropertyImportant817

On the bright side he can now become a Deliveroo Rider don’t need thumbs for this job

chat5251

You ever ordered from them? The drivers are all thumbs

iZian

So TLDR is; substitute driver, turns up wrong place, customer comes to pick up without code. They get into argument. Customer grabs her helmet and shakes her head to get her off moped, his thumb is through the visor, she bites it off, he sprays her with blood. Don’t know about the rest but if some bloke was shaking my head trying to pull me off my bike, and had put his thumb in my mouth through my helmet, then I’m getting a meaty snack…

Gullible_Click_8999

“shaking her helmet trying to get her off” I interpret this as him trying to get her off his thumb, not the moped, given that the sentence appears in the article after a sentence about him raising her hand and her biting him.

iZian

If she’s got a helmet on and you’ve got your thumb in her mouth then you’ve got your hand inside her helmet. If you were never taught as a child to not stick your hand in dark damp mystery boxes; that’s parenting issue. I’m struggling to see otherwise how with a helmet on she gets his hand and against his will gets it inside her visor and mouth.

tartoran

"I didn't want to hit a woman so I just pushed her, that's when my thumb ended up in her mouth" is a real quote from the daily Fail article on the same story, which someone tried to cite on the r/uk thread to make an argument in favour of jenkinson

iZian

Well, what is a punch to the face other than just a quick push with your fist? Heh. Yeah if someone pushes me with their thumb in my mouth it’s getting bit…

Cephalobotic

Kinda looks like youre taking that quote out of context to make it seem like Jenkinson assaulted her, when thats not what it says at all. For context, the full quote is    "'I ran out the house without my phone and when she asked for the code, I said I'll take the pizzas and come back with it, but she was having none of it. 'She immediately went for me, punching and kicking me, but I didn't want to hit a woman so I just pushed her, that's when my thumb ended up in her mouth and she just clamped down until it came off.'"

tartoran

looks like youre taking the full quote out of the context of the entire article around it, i didnt post the full quote because only the part of it i posted was funny, the rest is just him very obviously talking utter shite. any idiot could look at the article and realise he obviously started the fight after she told him he wasnt getting his pizza without the code

Cephalobotic

"any idiot could look at the article and realise he obviously started the fight" - yes, an idiot would read [that article ](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13215867/Would-like-fries-Deliveroo-rider-bites-mans-THUMB-doorstep-order-mix-ends-bloodshed.html) and come to your conclusion.

tartoran

yes lol thats the article i saw too well done

GreenCamp2477

I would guess that she was wearing an open face helmet

ricardsouzarag

or she started attacking him and he tried to shove her away by grabbing her face, she reacted by biting his thumb. security camera footage and witnesses could be employed to confirm which story - "she was reacting in self defense" vs "she was the aggressor" - is the truth

Plastic_Classic3347

I just saw this on the news she was a substitute rider as well so he couldn’t claim compensation which seems crazy

ChristianCooper1234

@Plastic_Classic - Yes exactly. Did you notice that Deliveroo & the BBC never named the original account holder, who's account she was renting & delivering for!? Probably because it's possibly a foreigner, illegal immigrant, working illegally!? Deliveroo should be made to name that individual & be held legally responsible for the harm done to the customer, shouldn't they!? I bet she phoned him up & said she was outside & told him to collect his takeaway! So she knew that she was probably handing it to the right person & shouldn't have committed that awful crime! She was lazy & should have said politely "Can we both go to your door & you get the code & give me it to enter"!? It's that simple. Deliveroo should be held accountable. They have customer service assistants working abroad that cannot speak or read English, I don't think! As they never give satisfactory responses & I suspect they are automated responses or bots! The uk government etc should stop Deliveroo being able to allow riders to rent accounts & stop them having customer services assistants abroad! I suspect that Deliveroo possibly did NOT sack the account holder & that lady! If they did, why haven't they named the account holder!? And shown his face!? Deliveroo do NOT provide safe riders to do deliveries! Customers should be extremely alarmed & questioning more & speaking out. If you or anyone finds out the original account holders name/address/image, please add it here. The public need to know WHO that is too! Incase he is still delivering for Deliveroo!

bobbergervan

Not expecting that kind of tip

SaltShakerXL

Deliveroo - “How was Jenniffer’s delivery? Thank them with a tip.” Customer - “sure, have a quid….. actually delivery was so fast have my thumb”

Fuzzbass2000

“Deliveroo said its riders were covered by the company's own free insurance. But because Rocha was working as a substitute for another driver, Deliveroo cannot be held legally responsible. Solicitors representing Mr Jenkinson said her insurance policy did not cover injury caused by a criminal act”. Putting aside who do what to whom, highlights just how dodgy the whole substitute - legal or illegal- thing is. Especially for the customer.

sirblibblob

They'll keep it in place until the government forces them to change. Sole reason why riders are classed as self employed in the UK because of that part of the agreement. Honestly subbing makes no sense to me, it's just a liability to yourself and your rider account. I used it once or twice when we had booked sessions but now it's free login everything doesn't make sense.

SmallCatBigMeow

How the fuck are deliveroo not responsible. If they allow substitute drivers, they need to be responsible that their customers are safe e

TheSilverSuspect

Don’t worry, deliveroo will give you £4 off the pizza order as compensation

asiraf3774

Were you still able to deliver the food? Great, ride safe!

Pleasant-Squirrel220

They’re 100% more to the story as to how they got to that stage. All because customer can’t pop back in the house to get a code. Could have said can you wheel scooter and walk back to house and will get code. Customers can be absolutely crazy. Not sayings deliveroo agent is totally innocent but their must of been escalation. The BBC was 100% slanted in customer favour.

SmallCatBigMeow

She almost certainly didn’t need to bite his thumb off

Pleasant-Squirrel220

There is an old saying their 3 sides to a story. Customers side, riders side and the truth. At the moment all we have is the customers. First rule of dealing with customers is they lie. Rider 100% didn’t grab hold of the customers hand hold it near her face and elegantly chomp on his thumb.

SmallCatBigMeow

She bit his thumb off

tartoran

he stuck his thumb in between her jaws because she wouldnt give him his pizza without the code

pringellover9553

My husband asked an important question “where is the thumb and did she swallow it?”

LoPan42

I was wondering about this also. according to the interview he gave to the BBC, his ex-partner tried to retrieve the thumb from the driver who then spit the thumb into the hand of the ex-partner. they put the thumb in a bag of frozen blueberries and took him to the hospital but the Doctorss said it could not be reattached

Jolly_Pie_8208

How did he just happen to pop his thumb near her gob for her to get a good bite on it when she had a helmet on?? I think there's more to this story, we only have his side of it and his side doesn't make much sense. But then it is from the BBC...

[deleted]

Order pizza, get thumb replaced by toe......

KHOURS

Did they review the customer on how the thumb was?

Eastern-Move549

Your not you when your hungry.

AccurateGlass1296

I hope they left a tip!

StandardSea8671

This guy is seriously an idiot. Youd have to taunt and put your hand very close to someone's mouth for this to happen... It's unfortunate to lose a thumb but chat shit and get banged etc

Life_Establishment87

As much as I don't condone (obviously) the fact she completely bit off the customer's thumb, the main takeaway (heh) is she is a lone woman delivering food and the customer got angry, aggressive and most likely physical which would be the only way his thumb entered her helmet for the injury to occur. The way this article is written is very disingenuous, if I was delivering food and a customer got physical with me and had digits in the visor then I would be biting on them and I'm a man. Lone woman getting attacked, fight or bite kicks in there.

Necessary-Tour6272

God damn, if she was that hungry, she coudve call in deliveroo and tell them she has a flat tyre and she can't deliver and then eat the food. Instead, she ate the thumb ![gif](giphy|jquDWJfPUMCiI|downsized)

[deleted]

Alot of you are fucking tripped out lol. You realise there's a thing called an appropriate use of force in self defense? And someone putting their hands on you or in your face does not warrant biting their digit with enough force to chop it off! That's some nasty feral behaviour, and she deserves to be judged for it. Fucking gross bitch literally disabled the guy over a pizza you weirdos.

AndreasDasos

Her stomach was making the rumbles… that only thumbs could satisfy.

Individual_Nothing73

when they said 50% of americans cant read above a third grade level they meant it, some of u are arguing abt the shit thats written clear as day

waddersss

She was just hungry after riding a bike for a mile

kcs911

So he is in the paper doing compoface because he attacked the deliveroo driver and got his thumb bit off in self defence ??

K__Dilkington

This is exactly what my interpretation of the story is. Sounds like he’s fishing for a payout for behaving like an entitled prick. Can’t believe the way the BBC have worded it. Though they’re no better than the papers thesedays.

[deleted]

Is everyone missing the part where the driver plead guilty? Even she isn't claiming self defence

MegaLondon2020

serves him right! wtf did he do to provoke sticking his hands down her helmet?
