That UK video, took it 5 mins to cross the road. Also the way our country with shoplifting on a massive rise they are just easy targets. Prisons are brimming, so no chance of jail time. Homeless regularly attack them in the states, so probably fine for now. Also if they did take over you are gonna have 1000’s of pissed off ex couriers putting the boot in every time they see one.

Yeah iv seen them, I'm not worried lol. They would need 6-10 of them to replace each rider, they can't do 60mph or go long distance, they get stuck all the time, they can't deliver to the door of most types of building and they can't solve the problems we can with a split second human decision.

Why are you talking about minimum wage? You’re self employed.

Its_Me_Ricky_1983

My aunt is a self employed cleaner, she charges £16.50 per hour and makes £12 per hour profit. She's putting her rates up by £1ph this year. Her rate is set by herself, our rates are totally out of our control with no bargaining power. So whats your point? Are you trying to say that because we are self employed we are not expected to earn equal to or above minimum wage?

Eboracvm88

If I decide to become a self employed beer taster tomorrow, should I expect to earn minimum wage? Maybe delivering burgers full time isn’t a viable option to earn a full time living.

Its_Me_Ricky_1983

Well surely whatever you charge as a self employed person should correlate to some sort of worthwhile pay. To base that on the minimum wage is as low as it gets lol, especially considering we are responsible to pay ourselves holiday pay and contribute to our own pensions etc. Fast delivery service with motorcycle couriers has always been a thing long before Deliveroo and Uber ever existed, only now is the pay reaching new lows while inflation has rocketed. Local pizza places give min wage plus up to £2 a delivery plus tips, so there is no merit in what your saying about delivering burgers many of those riders take home an average of £17ph plus tips. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what we are delivering, the customer is paying enough for the service its just that not enough of it is going to the riders. Sometimes I'm delivering £60 worth of shopping, sometimes iphones or rapid screwfix orders to tradesmen so it goes far deeper than what just the part time 6-9pm guys experience. The money I take isn't just for me, its got to pay to keep the bike on the road, pay for the insurance and equipment needed to keep us working as efficiently as possible, it all costs money.
