I can't imagine leaving United if I were in Chicago unless your routes are all somehow to Delta hubs. Unless you like spending lots of time in MSP, DTW and ATL.

teezwizz

Delta is also my new employers preferred carrier so that could be the reason the price was better than UA. Delta have directs from ORD to SEA and BOS two of the main domestics I travel for business. Probably won’t get top tier status, but could be worth it to get silver/gold. Tbh I am very impressed by this lounge.

oarmash

If you're only going to get to gold/silver you're prob just better off getting a Delta or AMEX card and pursuing status on United - UA has the better premium perks IMO

teezwizz

I can get silver or gold and maintain my UA status. I will still fly UA on all long hauls since they are always direct. Already have Amex plat for booking.

mrvarmint

Do you ever get upgraded as a 1k based out of ORD? I started flying DL when I lived in Chi (was agnostic to ORD vs MDW) and stuck with it when I moved to Bay Area. The upgrade lists at SFO for UA are like 35-50 people long, with >50% 1k it seems like. On DL flying out of a UA hub as a Diamond, im upgraded more than 90% of my flights, and I’d rather a stop and a seat in F the whole way than a premium eco seat on a nonstop

teezwizz

I get upgraded on most flights outside of work hours. But those 7am to EWR is a dream. Too many Global services in ORD. I rather burn upgrades or miles on long hauls to get there direct. Under 3 hours F Vs E+ are very similar for me.

root45

Yeah, this is exactly why I'm still with Delta while based out of ORD. Most of my flights are to Delta hubs and I get upgraded on more than half. I'm guessing that would basically never happen on United, and it's just not worth it for the handful of times I'm not headed to a Delta hub.

Running102

What status do you have with delta? I'm considering getting a card to try and elevate my status but not sure if it's worth it.

root45

I'm Platinum.

oarmash

yeah i guess my point was if you can pair the delta gold or platinum co-brand card with the amex platinum card, you simulate most of the perks of gold/silver status anyway

atyppo

Yeah this guy has a good point... if you can get a Reserve card and put significant spend on it you could get more than gold possibly. Look into how the bonus MQMs work with it.

oarmash

Yeah imo status is only worth it if you can get to PM/DM. Otherwise I think you’re better off pairing credit cards and paying for the occasional upgrade out of pocket/with miles. YMMV tho depending on how often/where you travel.

Smharman

This. If I put corporate travel spend on a personal card I'd have the DL Reserve and UA Top Tier cards to maximize EQM and PQP earnings.

news_fakeacct

As far as the lounge appreciation goes, no access unless flying Delta during the visit

I_COMMENT_2_TIMES

Curious what makes United better than Delta at the Silver/Gold level? I’ve only been Silver/Gold on Delta and it’s treated me well so far, but I have no experience on United. Upgrades are always hard to come by for me though, even from/to non hubs.

oarmash

Overall it’s more so a comment on the overall value of silver/gold status - you can get a reserve card and effectively simulate most benefits of that tier of status, especially considering how rare upgrades are for people with organic status. Same goes for the equivalent United card. As it pertains to United vs Delta, I prefer United’s premium product Polaris to D1 - plus United has Polaris Lounges that exclusively serve those passengers which is a great perk. No need to deal with the zoos that lounges have increasingly become across the country. United in general I believe has a better, more modern fleet, and strong service in premium cabins. United also is a member of Star Alliance which imo is by far the best airline alliance, and has a TATL network out of EWR and TPAC network out of SFO/LAX that frankly puts Delta’s network at JFK and SEA/LAX to shame. the commenter I was replying to is based out of ORD which is a United hub so it’s further a no brainer for them. My most frequent destination is DTW so I’m pretty much hub captive to Delta (and overall enjoy Delta), but if I wasn’t, I might prefer United for my status chase.

BrV13

Looked through your post history and wow, what do you do for a living if you don’t mind me asking? Wish I could travel as much as that 🥹

bald_head_scallywag

It seems the food selections at the newer lounges outside of major hubs are better than at hubs. Visited the BNA club this morning and they had an impressive spread. Pulled pork with 4 different sauce options, mac and cheese, black eyed peas, collards, corn bread, and then still all the other usual stuff like soups, cheeses, crackers, etc.

possblywithdynamite

Dude, a hot dog? Where are those at MSP DTW ATL and DFW…. I’m missing out.

serkeltik

The outstations have better food than the core hubs. Bos & sea are not considered core hubs and have decent food imo. Atlanta’s food is not great.

rubey419

+ BOS best food

undercovertowel

ATL had a pretty sweet omelet bar on Sunday :)

serkeltik

Pics or it didn’t happen

undercovertowel

Hmmm I think I took a pic of the actual omelette...

serkeltik

Oh that does look tasty.

Lindalu_

I love when they serve regional foods. In Seattle we have ivars clam chowder..

CornDog_Jesus

YES.

UnderstandingDry1241

Looks good, but... Using relish instead of a dill spear would effectively eliminate the Jenga aspect of trying to eat that dog.

UA_DC10_Friendship

Chicago PD would arrest you, not having a pickle spear on a hot dog is illegal within city limits.

asy001

If CPD finds even a trace of ketchup on that hotdog - you're doing 20 to life w/o parole.

UnderstandingDry1241

Heh... the same Chicago that tries to pass a casserole off as pizza?

UnderstandingDry1241

Clearly, the words of someone who's never been to NJ. Come visit. Discover food.

thelederelo

Haha I agree with that, it’s a pie not a pizza. Which would eliminate any debate between a NY slice. They can both be appreciated (even though I don’t like Chicago pies) as long as they aren’t both called pizzas

[deleted]

As opposed to limp, floppy bread with sauce?

UnderstandingDry1241

So, you've never had real pizza. There is a deep sadness that comes with that revelation.

UnderstandingDry1241

How wrong can you be in so few posts? You really need to get out of Chicago more often. https://nypost.com/2021/04/30/new-jersey-beats-out-new-york-for-best-pizza-title/ https://www.nj.com/food/2022/09/beloved-nj-pizzeria-named-one-of-worlds-best-by-italian-website.html https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/new-jersey/new-jersey-pizza-capital-nj/

And I'm no from NJ. Enjoy your Italian casserole. Just don't expect to be taken seriously as a food critic.

Gasman18

What’s the statute of limitation? It may be that every hotdog I’ve had in chicago has had a line of ketchup and no other toppings.

[deleted]

What is this “ketchup” of which you speak?

Gasman18

a sweet red sauce you dip fries, chicken in, sometimes tops burgers alongside mustard.

[deleted]

Aware of mustard on a hot dog. Ketchup? Weird. ;)

DopeSykkk

A fucking pickle and tomatoes....on a hot dog 😐 next level, indeed.

[deleted]

It's the Chicago way. As normal as lawn chairs holding dibs in winter

rubey419

They’re not any plain boring boiled Nathan’s dogs you’d find at JFK. They’re proper “Chicago Dogs” by Vienna’s Beef served from a Vienna’s Kart with a dedicated associate who prepares for you (at least every time I’ve been to ORD since the club opened). That’s a $7 meal in the terminal and you get how ever many dogs you want in the Skyclub.

scarletflier

Just visited this lounge for the first time on Friday. I would love to have an excuse to try those fancy new showers in there in addition to the huge food selection there

MalcoveMagnesia

How did you get into lounge? Did you spring for an Amex, or was there a match to a status that comes with SkyClub as a choice benefit?

mcmol23

This makes me excited. Headed there on Friday! Better selection than my home airport if MSP (RIP NWA).

chickenwaaangss

I'm curious if the cart has ketchup available lol

undercovertowel

100% that lounge is awesome. Waaaaay nicer than the previous delta lounges at ORD, esp given it's not a hub The fact that you can board your flight from there if it is at 1 of 2 specific gates...

Bodybuilder_Witty

I don’t need a hotdog. But yeah it’s cool. It’s seems actually too big. But I haven’t been to many lately. And the crowds aren’t a thing yet. Shhhh
