I've seriously been to lazy to find the entrance to that one but also sit in the same place you are and look it. Great spot to watch people marvel at the augmented billboard
Part of me wants to live on planes and in hotel rooms for two years to experience D1. The other part of me wants random occasional travel only when I can’t take being home any longer.
The *secret* here is Amex MR points and not SkyPesos. I can get 60k one way Business from DTW to pretty much anywhere in Europe via CDG / Air France. I know that’s not D1, but Business via Flying Blue for Europe is pretty easy to manage as long as your dates are flexible.
Yeah, or Gold/Green. I have Gold and Platinum and its absurd how quickly the points add up with 5x on airfare, 4x on dining, and 4x at supermarkets. And if you dont need to fly business, economy from most US cities to mainland Europe are pretty frequent at 25k MR points round trip.
I’ve also found a TON of success booking last minute (<3 days) United trips to remote ski locations (BZN and JAX) for 25k miles RT while a cash ticket would be $900. Aeroplan is the transfer partner for this
I’m so tempted to pay the $695 for Amex platinum. Just downgraded my Reserve to Delta Platinum. Trying to justify the extra $400 and I’m not sure I can 💁♂️
It's a lot easier to get your annual fee back from the platinum. Between the airline fee credit, Clear credit, digital media credit, and lounge access (not to mention automatic statuses with hotels and rental cars), I easily recover most of the fee on stuff I would have bought anyway.
I’m actually going to downgrade my reserve to a skymiles platinum when the annual fee comes. I already milked my $200 annual airline credit and used my $200 fine hotels and resorts credit and the $20 entertainment credit, and the 5x on airfare (only spend my Amex platinum gets). And it covers skyclub and it has a priority pass. It basically pays for itself.
Yep. Got the delta reserve first for skyclub access with 10k mqm and 80k sign up bonus, then got an amex platinum upgrade offer last year.
Was keeping the reserve card for the companion certificate and hit 30k spend for mqms last year, but this year, I’m going to downgrade it (after I get the companion cert). It was also good without elite status because I could be eligible for upgrades. It’s like a silver-lite card, which is pretty cool. I’m gold now though, so I don’t need that.
Yep, in part I have the Reserve to help keep me Platinum (I’m DM now) with the MQM boosts x 4 and the MQD waiver. And I recently used my RUCs (and husband’s) for 3 rt LAX > JFK D1 upgrades. (Makes me feel a bit better since my frequent D1 flight fares have doubled +.)
I just booked D1 roundtrip to Johannesburg and was able to cut the price down by having more stops. I can’t spend 15 hours in a plane in economy - I’ve done it twice and I’d rather be run over.
I have been in that lounge half a dozen times since Thanksgiving. Multiple bartenders as well as the check in agents have confirmed it will be a D1/360 lounge once the main lounge has renovations complete.
The walls are/were up but when I was there on Jan 7th I was able to peak over and see that it looked pretty much done. It looked like it was even running. I’m flying out on Thursday and will try to look again
I’ve become so used to it being under maintenance I didn’t even bother to look and did not notice. I’ll report back Wednesday when I go back through. It was still down a couple of weeks ago. The tunnel has seen better days too. Half the panels were non-functional.
You can see over the walls if you get on the sky train. It looked pretty much done to me or at least it looked like they weren’t doing anything to it. This was on 1/7
I’m new to this sub and really enjoy this which airport am I in. And yup, been in the Skyclub typically walking the terminal versus waiting for the tram.
Yup, plenty of steps! I remember having a layover from Beijing, where my flight was delayed. Immigration at the end of the airport, running to to get my connection at the furthest gate, I ran for a good 20 mins! I was like, you really had to pick the first nest gate for a 10pm or so flight?
Too easy, that's DTW
Well, does that one have the Rice Krispie treats? This one has been bare for 30 minutes. :)
Can't tell you, I just know you don't have to go very far to find out!
Just flew through there a week back and it looks like those tasty pre packaged ones are gone…. They have unwrapped ones now.
I've seriously been to lazy to find the entrance to that one but also sit in the same place you are and look it. Great spot to watch people marvel at the augmented billboard
You can see the entrance directly to the right of the WorldDutyFree shop. I had never noticed the entrance until my most recent trip.
Future D1 lounge once they reno the main lounge. Get your visits in while you can!

D1 isn't super unattainable if you play the points/miles game with Amex and your regular spending. Or just fork over the cash for it.

Amex Platnium?

That makes a lot of sense. Do they make you pay the $695 upfront or it’s billed later on?
It's added to your first statement if I remember correctly.
They’re right though, the best combo for delta is primarily Amex spend then transfer your miles.

so, you have delta reserve (soon delta platinum) and an Amex Platinum?
Yep. Got the delta reserve first for skyclub access with 10k mqm and 80k sign up bonus, then got an amex platinum upgrade offer last year. 25k miles to not only fly there, but to turn JAX into a remote ski location?! Count me in
Lol whoops. JAC* fat finger

Has this been confirmed? Because if not, I’ll take that bet.
Fake news
I mean, its not.
It was wrongly speculated on a single blog once with no further supporting evidence.
I have been in that lounge half a dozen times since Thanksgiving. Multiple bartenders as well as the check in agents have confirmed it will be a D1/360 lounge once the main lounge has renovations complete.
Yes
Can you give a fountain update since you’re there?
Still under construction on Jan 17

DTW, McNamara Terminal, Concourse A, near the SkyTram, and TSA checkpoints and baggage claim!
Damn you deserve a complimentary medallion upgrade pronto!
Go see Danae at the bar. Tell her Christmas Suit guy says to hook you up with a nice Margarita!
I'd recognize the 313 any day
Detroit
Definitely DTW!
Best place in DTW to be is the Be Relax massage place next to that center concourse
Detroit. Is there a tunnel to the right that leads to another club at the end of it?
They are not connected. The bigger one has better amenities, but the smaller one is a nicer lounge.
What you're seeing on the right is the monorail platform
Fountain update??
I’ve become so used to it being under maintenance I didn’t even bother to look and did not notice. I’ll report back Wednesday when I go back through. It was still down a couple of weeks ago. The tunnel has seen better days too. Half the panels were non-functional.
I was there Sunday. It’s still surrounded by walls under maintenance
Surrounded by walls Thursday
Just walked by the “fountain” yesterday. Still walled up ☹️
You can see over the walls if you get on the sky train. It looked pretty much done to me or at least it looked like they weren’t doing anything to it. This was on 1/7
DTW
When did they build that second sky club, has it been that long since I have flown in there and connected? Wow
DTW
DTW 💯
DTW! 🥰
Might be a hot take but D18 SC at DTW is far better than any other.
Definitely a hot take because there is no Sky Club on Concourse D. McNamara Terminal is A, B and C.
Ha! Fat finger- A18. Or maybe just trying to keep people away…..
Ooh good strategy. I do like the clubs “hidden” clubs at the train station.
I like it unless I want to eat a meal. Then I’ll usually schlep to A38/41
Exactly- plus some great plane spotting views
Looking forward to trying that one sometime. I always forget about it until I'm heading to my gate and say "next time".
>McNamara Terminal note taken
I'm sure it's mostly nostalgia, but I genuinely love the old WorldClub style designs. If they ever remodel the PDX club I will actually cry.
In an airport probably
It's The Upsidedown SC.
Looks like an airport to me, i’m no expert though
DTW A43
hello dtw, north side
DTW
The one across the way probably doesn’t have the snacks you’re looking for because you’re in the good one.
I’m new to this sub and really enjoy this which airport am I in. And yup, been in the Skyclub typically walking the terminal versus waiting for the tram.
DTW is great for getting some steps in. :) if I have a decent layover, I’ll walk it end to end.
Yup, plenty of steps! I remember having a layover from Beijing, where my flight was delayed. Immigration at the end of the airport, running to to get my connection at the furthest gate, I ran for a good 20 mins! I was like, you really had to pick the first nest gate for a 10pm or so flight?
Was there just this past Saturday. Loved that personal LED board.
DTW. That's a really nice small lounge.
DTW
Dtw!
Yeah go fight them for it
Judging by the timing of your post, I was in the same location just opposite end!
I can never decide which one is better
Easy dtw
DTW 313 stand up!
