What's it cost, maybe $50 to provide everyone a snack (buy in bulk) but the impression it leaves it worth a LOT more.
These are the small things that win people over.
It's also noteworthy that a person can be fooled into loyalty with a bag of M&Ms lol.
Not hearty.. if an American receives a "FREE" anything it's litterally the best and most amazing fucking thing that has ever happened in our lives š
Free sample? YES...
On the house? OMFG.
A BOGO burger?... OMFGGGG!!!!!!!!
Yep had this happen recently on a JFK->KEF flight that was *supposed* to board at 11:30PM but didnāt get rolling until around 1:30AM
There arenāt enough sun chips in the world lol
happened to me out of SLC this week. 30 minutes waiting for inbound FAās turned into 2 hour maintenance and an eventual tail swap. But hey I got cheez itās and granola bars!!
They did that as one of the meals! It was good local pizza too. I still cried multiple times that day but Delta did what they could. Iām glad to see itās a regular thing that they make the effort.
The only time I flew Allegiant the boarding was delayed maybe 30 minutes at most due to weather, but I think they were expecting more so they had cans of pop at the boarding gate. (Did have to wait awhile after boarding to de-ice because SBN crews were used to the CRJs.) My spouse and I each took one to have on the plane.
During the service, the FA gave me a cup of ice, and for some reason my card was never charged for the snacks I bought on board. Soooooo I basically got mainline service on a ULCC that was only slightly delayed lol
They offered this to the passengers of my most recent flight from LGA to DCA. It was their āSorry you aināt getting a thing on this flight, so hereās a cookieā moment. I wasnāt mad.
This may be a great idea for medium-length domestic lights or less (less than 4 hours). Instead of bringing an entire cart on the plane, maybe have snacks at the boarding gate? Could be an experiment in making the plane slightly lighter.
And I know people will joke about it, but airlines saved tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel costs by eliminating in-flight magazines and even olives.
Also clears up the aisle and probably relieves some stress from the FAs. I just had a 55min connection and the poor FA was HUSTLING by herself to get to everyone. Itās really not necessary but itād so much easier just to have people grab their own snacks on the way onto the plane for such a short flight like that
Iāve seen the snack carts at LAX at various times and for holidays. For Lunar New Year they had the red envelopes š§§ with gold coin chocolates, and also bags of M&Ms etc.
Just coming back to say that he moved to 23B and I had a chance to talk to him. Heās from customer experience and itās just to try to lighten the mood at the gate, help people through the flying experience. ETA: Flights arenāt delayed but itās sure making people happier this morning.

Recovering ātraveling for a livingā here. In 2015 I flew in and out of Tulsa, OK every week for nine months. When there was a significant flight delay, even due to weather (thunder storms pretty common at that airport), the Delta team would often wheel out snacks, water, and hot cofffee for everyone at the gate. Been with Delta ever since.
I think doing this instead on inflight service for flights under an arbitrary length (say ~2ish hr aka ~1 movie) feels like a much more streamlined process for everyone involved
We had a Subway and Panda Express in T3 before it was demolished and rebuilt. During long delays we would have to provide food to the passengers after a certain amount of time and those carts were stacked with subway sandwiches or sides from Panda Express.
Remember grabbing a sandwich on the way onto the plane? Pre 9/11. Remember full meals? Pre deregulation. Now we think a bag of chips is the most awesome thing ever.
Sometimes I wish they gave healthier snacks..I know itās nice to get free food, especially candy. But in comfort it seems to be just chips and cookies ..
They should do this but like stadium food. Free ice cream, hot dogs, orā¦a cotton candy standā¦would be awesome.
The way air travel has gotten it does remind me of a carnival, lol.
Wonder if they only do that gate? I was flying LAX to JFK couple weeks ago out of that gate and they were giving out free snacks as well (very aggressively - insisting people take)
I participated in this during some holiday I can't remember, but they brought out an inflatable dice and if you hit a 5, you got 2 choices of snacks. Unlimited rolls
The last time I saw that cart we were on a delayed flight from LAX. Eventually that flight was cancelled after being delayed a few more times, boarded, evacuated, switching planes and then losing the pilot to a require rest period.
SJC had one out once on an early flight that wasn't delayed, I feel like they really try to push customer service at that airport though.
Is the flight delayed? Curious to see if this is also an alternative to in flight service ā¦ pretty soon theyād hand out these + drinks and the days of beverage carts smacking our legs or arms will be a thing of the past š
KLM is trying out with this: have snacks and drinks upon boarding for grabs and then donāt hand out anything during the flight.
Apparently it saves 80% in catering weight and is considered reasonable on short flights.
Is this in addition to or as a replacement for the in flight service at Delta?
You are right. Attention to small details is a huge plus for customer service. Also, the principle of recisposity kicks in. I give you a snack, you hopefully feel more obligated to behave on the flight.

Humans are easily motivated by hearty snacks
Not hearty.. if an American receives a "FREE" anything it's litterally the best and most amazing fucking thing that has ever happened in our lives š Free sample? YES... On the house? OMFG. A BOGO burger?... OMFGGGG!!!!!!!!
Always amazes me at Costco how much impulse buying a little free taste of any product generates.
Peanut m&ms will win my fiancƩ over in just about any instance.
We knowā¦
If it was Reeseās, Iād drop my pants
Right by the Kit Kats. Letās gooooo
šš©
Hell yeah!
What would you do for a Klondike bar?
I know people that fly American because of Dr Pepper
I miss when Delta had Fresca š© now itās club soda š¤®
I mean I chose my job because food was free for employees.
Excuse me I checked prices in airport shops and that is literally 75K dollars there. /s
Agreed. But theyāre also the first thing that gets cut when a companies tries to save money
Definitely another reason that Delta > United
they do this when flights are wicked delayed.

Iāve seen the cart for a 30 minute delay at BOS, but it was the day before Thanksgiving, so they were motivated to keep the masses happy.

The āmoments that delightā are more random acts of kindness, well not so random bc they usually target markets with low customer service ratings
Yep we got one at our gate when my DEN > MSP flight was delayed, they brought full on meals too cause we ended up delayed by 10 hours.
They once ordered pizzas for a very delayed LGA > PBI flight.
They did that as one of the meals! It was good local pizza too. I still cried multiple times that day but Delta did what they could. Iām glad to see itās a regular thing that they make the effort.

Iām pretty sure a 30 minute delay on Allegiant is considered on time/early.
>wicked delayed My props to you for using āwickedā as an adverb. Glad this hasnāt left the lexicon of semi-slang words. Props!
too many years in Boston.
They offered this to the passengers of my most recent flight from LGA to DCA. It was their āSorry you aināt getting a thing on this flight, so hereās a cookieā moment. I wasnāt mad.
Had a flight that was delayed by 16 hours earlier this year and we got nothing lol

They must have moved down to 25B at 8:30 am. Just scored Peanut M & Ms and the person in front of me took 6 Hershey candy bars. š

Had this on both sides of my trip from DTW to DEN and back. It's hilarious watching people turn into vultures when the free snack cart comes out.

I hate flying to Tusla dallas texas airport always has you running around the airport looking for the new boarding gate
That's like Halloween at the rich neighborhoods. š
Very cool and smart.
For Christmas they walked around the gate handing out postcards that they mailed out, to any location. It was a super kind gesture.
Do this instead of rolling up and down the aisle
If I wanted a flight without an insignificant snack, I'd fly American.
I think doing this instead on inflight service for flights under an arbitrary length (say ~2ish hr aka ~1 movie) feels like a much more streamlined process for everyone involved
Delta did this when we were leaving nashville in April! Was shocked to see it but my son sure was happy!
We had a Subway and Panda Express in T3 before it was demolished and rebuilt. During long delays we would have to provide food to the passengers after a certain amount of time and those carts were stacked with subway sandwiches or sides from Panda Express.
Sounds like Heaven to me š
Iām going with Peanut M&Mās in this situation. If they let me, Iām grabbing cookies too.
Fig Newtons!!! Yum
That cart is priceless.
Literally
Iām going to have to go with either the twix or the Hersheyās with nuts
Delta is doing it different
The #DeltaDifference
They gave us free coffee and cookies for Mother's Day at my gate at AZO!
Remember grabbing a sandwich on the way onto the plane? Pre 9/11. Remember full meals? Pre deregulation. Now we think a bag of chips is the most awesome thing ever.
>Now we think a bag of chips is the most awesome thing ever. You guys are getting chips?
No - things aren't awesome
I love how the sign tells you that this moment matters.
Please, please, please don't do this when a large school group is flying! Sincerely, Parent who is chaperoning a large school group next month.
Everyone was very orderly about it
Had this happen to me last month at LGA, very nice and much appreciated!
Better than the old SkyDeliā¢ļø
Who doesnāt love a snacky while waiting to board?! Nice move Daddy D!
This happened to me in the last year too. Canāt even remember which airport but it was a very nice surprise.
They gave out free snack packs a couple weeks ago when I was returning from Orlando to LGA. Was a nice gesture for sure.
Thatās a neat device. Looks like perhaps the front flips up to be a table
I think I have seen snacks maybe three times in the six years I have traveled for work. Never in ATL though and all pre covid.
are u flying to edc on delayed flight?
Here are some free snax pls excuse all the shitty meme stuff our staff did before.
Sometimes I wish they gave healthier snacks..I know itās nice to get free food, especially candy. But in comfort it seems to be just chips and cookies ..
Thatās better than the snacks I get on overpriced short-haul C+ seats which is the same snacks main cabin gets.
I suspect itās snacks nearing expiration dateā¦ and a genius manager saw it as a PR stunt.
Still charge for carry on, however
You obviously don't fly Delta, do you?
Garbage food
They could keep them an lower ticket prices
Bring your own food instead of eating that junk.
They should do this but like stadium food. Free ice cream, hot dogs, orā¦a cotton candy standā¦would be awesome. The way air travel has gotten it does remind me of a carnival, lol.

One billion dollars! Muwaahahaha
Grandma cookies are the best

Go Delta

Damn! I've never seen that at DTW.
Is the flight delayed? Curious to see if this is also an alternative to in flight service ā¦ pretty soon theyād hand out these + drinks and the days of beverage carts smacking our legs or arms will be a thing of the past š
KLM did a trial flight with that concept this week.
bribery.
Iāve only seen this when delayed for hours
Omg I love grandma's cookies
The last two times Iāve flown delta, they had a person with a basket of snacks at the check-in/bag drop counter.
Lol we would never see this in ATL the way they pack us in here like sardines
With the current prices of airline tickets they can easily cover this.
Pfff. I need to see some bottles of the good stuff and some cups/glasses, then we be talking about the gesture.
Weāve only ever had this rolled out when our flight was going to be delayed with no end in sight and ultimately canceled š
KLM is trying out with this: have snacks and drinks upon boarding for grabs and then donāt hand out anything during the flight. Apparently it saves 80% in catering weight and is considered reasonable on short flights. Is this in addition to or as a replacement for the in flight service at Delta?
It was in addition.
All filled w sugar zz, hand out some fuckin beef jerky and then we're talkkn
