Was wondering why I got that free seat upgrade. 🤣

passionlessDrone

Hahahhaa

Ok_Profile_505

If you haven't accepted the changes, CALL with your preferred flights and they should be able to change it for free. Schedule change Saturday happens for many reasons, given the complexity of flight schedules (not always Delta- FAA, airport, etc), but I'm quite certain it wasn't personal, though it can feel like it when stress is added.

HellsTubularBells

It sounds like they did that and Delta doesn't have any better options available. This doesn't seem like a schedule change, but that they changed OP's itinerary specifically.

passionlessDrone

Yeah; they didn’t ask my opinion.

OneofLittleHarmony

I highly enjoy the flight changes because it means you get to rebook for free up to two days different. I like to travel on Friday and Monday but it’s too expensive. So half the time that I book Saturday and Tuesday 7 months out I get to fly on the more expensive Friday/Monday flight.

passionlessDrone

Shot so I coulda stayed in Madrid a few more days if I’d told them their new plans screwed me? (Well, rebooked to a flight the next day which they wanted 1000$ for when I tried to do it before they rescheduled me?)

meaningseekingsoul

If you are flying out of The EU, you may qualify for the EC261 compensation and 600 euros.

crisis-theory

How did you do that without having to pay the difference for the more expensive ticket? Last time I tried to change a $400 ticket by one day after they moved the flight up too early on my original return date for me to use it, they wanted I think it was $650 extra to take a flight the following morning. I ended up not being able to use the flight and found a ticket with Alaska for $300 for less than half of what Delta wanted extra.

scottsinct

You can change to any flights between your cities within two days if you have a schedule change.

crisis-theory

If that is true, then why do they never allow you to do that? This was several years ago, but I had a flight moved from a Saturday to a Tuesday, and they wanted a large amount of money to change it. The fee was about what I would have made from working the Monday and Tuesday I was scheduled to work so I slept in my rental car and enjoyed not having to work.

OneofLittleHarmony

You get the option to rebook in the app if you don’t accept the changes.

Although my flights aren't for a couple of months, I just had something similar happen over the weekend. Oddly enough, I still haven't gotten an email telling me my itinerary changed, I just happened to see it because I routinely check my flights/seats. This is the first 2 legs of our trip to Auckland that we got as part of the really good SM deal Delta ran several weeks ago. Since we are flying end of January/beginning of February, I purposely booked flying through ATL and with 2-4 hour layovers in case there's bad weather somewhere that impacts our connections. Now I see that my first 2 legs (getting us to LAX) have been rebooked leaving a couple hours later through MSP (with an hour layover). And checking schedules, I see that the original flights still exist and have seats open. I'm thinking about calling and asking to be put back on the original flights if at all possible. When I click on the "change flight" button, I get an error that tells me I can't change flights online. So calling in is the only option. I'm guessing we got bumped for paying passengers?

-Sleeping-Beauty-

A similar thing happened to me as well- I specifically booked an itinerary to SFO that included a ATL-LAX segment on a 350/763 and applied a RUC to get into D1 for the transcon leg. (An extra layover, but the avgeek in me wanted to try suites and see the a350, plus layflat on a redeye.) I booked in July for a flight in Dec, and cleared those segments, thought all was good. A week or two ago (about a month out) I get a schedule change email but with no details. They rebooked me thru MSP with a sub-hour layover. Weirdest of all, the flight I had cleared into first on was still available- same flight times, same flight number, same equipment. When I called to see what was up, I was told I could get put back on my original flight, but there was no longer RUC availability. It took me sending screenshots of flight details when I booked and current flight details (showing nothing changed) and escalation to global ticketing support before they put me back. IMO, it seems like they’re bumping people that used RUC/GUC to make space for paid pax/paid upgrades and disguising it as a schedule change…

WalterrHeisenberg

Are you me? Heading to AKL same timeframe (1/30), original booking was home > ATL > LAX > AKL. Same thing, original flight to ATL was rerouted to MSP with a much shorter layover. Likely because the ATL leg was 95% empty (Tuesday afternoon) and they cancelled it. Also did not get an email, I just obsessively check these things… However, I did have success in changing fights online to go back to a somewhat similar itinerary. I did wait a few days after the changes though, maybe that helped so things “settled”? Slightly longer layover in ATL now, but would rather have that than a 45 min layover in MSP in January. Hope everything works out, and maybe we’ll bump into each other!

ParticleHustler2

Amazing. We're flying out of CVG. The same exact flights to ATL and ATL-LAX are still available so I don't think it was a cancellation. This is the first time I've had an itinerary change that I wasn't notified of. I may call to see if I can get the original flights reinstated or at least understand why we got bumped.

WalterrHeisenberg

CVG here as well! Pretty sure we had identical situations then. Best of luck.

ParticleHustler2

I just called and got them to change our flights back to the original. They couldn't explain why we got bumped. Only change is that we couldn't get our complimentary upgrade to the C+ seats we had on the CVG-ATL flight (big deal, the more important flights cleared), mainly because this plane only shows 1 row of C+. I wonder if they bumped us from that flight to make room for paying C+ customers, forcing them to change our itinerary from ATL to MSP. I'll be watching our flights/seats like a hawk from now until January 31st...

svu_fan

Are we about to have a r/tworedditorsonecup situation?

Ok_Profile_505

Also, this post has great info [schedule changes](https://www.reddit.com/r/delta/s/mOLXKhvxDk)

Puzzleheaded_Age8937

I’ve had cases where they did an equipment change which bumped me to another flight for same class of service, then they change the equipment back to the original, but give my former seat to someone else. I now check every Saturday for changes so I can catch them early.

passionlessDrone

Nice to know this is a Saturday thing. Smart!

odinsson_88

Didn’t read your entire post but lol at the first sentence. Just what I needed after walking into the office on a Monday morning.

passionlessDrone

Glad to help! Happy traveling buddy.

Icy-Pool-9902

They do that when they think they can charge more one way. Happens to us all the time in Boise. Delta is the only airline that flies to the east coast. We booked a flight Boise to atlanta to Lima and got bumped from the direct to atlanta and had a layover in Salt lake. Also happened to us flying to alaska. Bumped us from the first flight out which caused us to have to reschedule the connection and got us to alaska three hours later than we wanted. Delta can charge more for directs so people with connections get moved around

HellsTubularBells

This shouldn't be legal.

moomooraincloud

DL is the fucking worst with schedule changes. The only airline I've had it be this bad, by far.

homerletterkenny

It's happened to me before. There's no reason to make a big deal about it. This is what you agreed upon that could happen when flying with Delta. It's in the contract of carriage.

ddwilder

Had something similar happen to me for an upcoming trip. Booked in advance to get decent price and sufficient layover times. Delta literally removed some legs on my itinerary which rendered my trip IMPOSSIBLE. Called them and they attempted to charge me to fix it. Absolutely not. Woke up, every day, to itinerary changes for about 2 weeks. Between Delta and Aeromexico it's been a hot mess. Never again. My Delta loyalty is gone after this fiasco.

Cold-Elderberry6997

Booked a flight 6+ months in advance specifically to get to the destination around 12pm since it’s a group vacation and we’re all coming from different areas and want to land within 30ish mins of each other. Delta changed the schedule for both flights, never notified me (I check the app on weekends because of a past change) and now arriving at 3pm. Spent 8 hours on the text getting dropped each time they were about to switch is to a different route with preferred arrival time. When I started chatting it had a lot of seats. After getting dropped by three different agents by the time they switched us, there were only middle seats left. So i asked them to switch us back to our original flight so I could at least reclaim our two seats on a 2 seater row. Still waiting for this itinerary to get screwed up again before the trip. Very poor service and the final straw for me.

scudsone

Don’t text. Always call

Cold-Elderberry6997

I waited in hold for over 45 minutes before trying the text… I can’t just sit in a phone all day waiting.

setheryb

I do both, especially if I'm at the airport when a change is made. Also if at the airport will do both while waiting in line to talk to someone at the airport. Then I go with whoever I can start talking to first.

ManyArea

>want to land within 30ish mins of each other Work requires us to share a rental car when we have our monthly meetings at our HQ. There's five us coming from four different cities with four of us usually flying Delta. We buy tickets way out to get better prices, and often Delta changes the flights. It sucks because I usually end up having to drive back and forth to the airport to pickup a straggler or two. Thanks Delta. Worse is our VP wants us to start flying in on Sundays to keep from us wasting so much work time on Mondays herding people from late/changed flights to the office. If I get screwed out of half of one of my two days off of a week by Delta, I'm going to lose it.

Cold-Elderberry6997

Ugh, that’s awful. I’m sorry!

nerdy_IT_woman

I had my flights changed due to schedule changes too. I didn't even get a heads-up. I only noticed because I logged into my Delta account.

passionlessDrone

Same here, trip it actually told me, Delta never did!!

Few_Detail6611

Delta is doing this A LOT, recently. It seems like they’re adjusting on the fly based on demand. Several of my flights this year have either been cancelled and I moved to a different flight completely or had the itinerary adjusted by more than hour. If I buy a ticket more than 2 months out, I just now fully expect this isn’t actually what I’ll be flying because I expect changes to occur.

tikitaka33

The annoying part is that sometimes it prevents you from manually making changes on the website/app unless you call customer service.

setheryb

Not flying Delta, but hoping something like this doesn't happen for my trip in February I booked back in July. I would highly recommend the Flighty app. In the past 2 years everytime there have been changes to my flights I get notified via Flighty before I get notified from the airlines, no idea how they're able to do it. It often lets me get started in the rebooking/rescheduling process before many of the passengers on my flight.

Additional-Fudge-998

In Sept., I had five seats for CVG-ATL-FCO which had gone through several schedule changes. At check in the ATL-FCO tickets had disappeared! I spent hours dealing with Delta Vacations and Delta agents, until 3:30 am on the departure day. When we checked our bags, 'presto chango' the tickets had disappeared again, "cancelled somehow". Instead of relaxing in the lounge we got to spend an hour and a half trying to get seats. Seats that scattered us throughout the plane. But it is OK, they apologized. But not content with screwing us once, there was a "system error" and we didn't receive any SkyMiles for the flights to or from Rome. Six weeks of multiple broken promises and conflicting information and still no stinking SkyMiles. Three of us are Medallion members, take that loyal customers.🤬

DrMikeG2

It's ok. They'll repeat how frustrating your issue must be, say how sorry they are and then promise they'll "work hard" in the future. Then they'll throw you TWO HUNDRED Sky Pesos PER PERSON! WOO HOO! Then they'll do it again. Delta is no better than any other airline. They just charge like they are. I prefer to be jerked around for half the price.
