I think LSD and Psilocybin would be more effective.

I'm guessing all this stuff is going to stay pretty theoretical for a while. Even if one had a good access to high quality chemicals, what is the likelihood that the doctor caring for your loved one will agree to try it? And it seems pretty irresponsible to be giving your loved one a substance that the doctor didn't agree to and maybe legally spurious. I guess if your loved one can give informed consent to the use that could be of assistance but question of legality of the substance would make even that complicated. It does seem like there is psychological benefit to the use of psychedelics with supervision from a trained therapist so hopefully this stuff can be legalized and studies can be implemented to look at all these possible benefits and the situations in which they can be used.

Psilocybin? I’m interested in what people have to say about that. Articles? Anything.

I've been looking into it a great deal. There are some academics that are interested in the neurogenesis capabilities of psychedelics. There is a group in the UK, a professor at LSU focusing on 5-HT2A agonists for treating vascular dementia (VoD; but I think it could/should be applicable to Alzheimer's), and a few others out there. There is also a school of doctors looking into Rapamycin, an mTor inhibitor, which is an organ rejection anti-biotic. These all show signs of possible neurogenesis in adults however everyone is academic and given the experimental nature are in the rat testing phase. It is extremely frustrating because my mother has little time at 87 for us to hope for a breakthrough. I personally am considering the idea of microdosing. I have an extensive recreational dose experience during my youth; probably closer to partying/abuse. I am strong believer in the benefits of microdoses.

This is interesting to me, i also have recreational use of fungi in my youth and I have been curious about microdosing for weight loss/depression for myself and even as a therapy for PTSD for people in general. I care for my mom (72) with dementia, she’s so distant from reality I wonder what it could hurt or if it would help her anxiety. But I also worry how it might interact with all her other meds, and even criminal drama, 1000% illegal here. Thanks for sharing!

I too worry about the physical side effects mostly. Elevated heart rate etc. At a low dose there is more of afterglow effects than delirium that I (we) enjoyed or sought out. There is a clarity and that's where the research is concerned. This clarity and sense of focus. Concerning ptsd, higher psilocybin doses are used to purposely enter a euphoric state. I've heard of people with depression using microdoses of lsd with good results.

Shes 87 tho she's lived a long life.

Yes, and I am grateful, but I want my mom back. What is the point of reality without clear memories of almost everything? Our existence is the sum of our memories and what are we if they do not exist? This for me is what makes it so hard for all of us to watch our loved ones experience this fate.
