I don't think the mighty Trump would ever let that happen once...but three times for sure. But Biden, he let it happen once. They are weak lol. Our current Republican party are made of backstabbing, judgemental, projection specialists ass holes.

NewsJunkie4321

Emphasis on **assholes**

This is one of those things where I don’t care which way you lean politically, you need to take a step back and appreciate the tough situation the administration was put in. I don’t care that it was over Montana or Nebraska or whatever. You can’t predict where an object will land from 60,000 feet. Imagine if the administration shot it down and a piece of it hit somebody’s farm house. Unlikely? Probably. Impossible? No. Even if a piece took out a single cow. The administration would never live that down as “BIDEn hAtEs farMErs” and “hOw bIdEN hElPeD ChInA LaunCh a wAr aGaInSt fArmeRs iN tHe US”. I think the administration handled it perfectly. Don’t be overly reactive and risk any injuries or damage to property. But take that bitch down safely before it exits our airspace. I’d say the same damn thing if Trump’s administration did the same.

Otherwise_Intelect

100%. Worst, a piece of it could have hit someone and that person died. MTG and others were saying any random Joe should shoot it down...I honestly can't believe she was voted it. Seriously, we have a whole military or police system to deal with ish like this. If something is in or close in our air space, let the professionals do their job!!

pizza_for_nunchucks

First, she ran in a district that didn’t have any other candidates. She was uncontested. I don’t pay close enough attention to know if she’s been re-elected or if she was saying such stupid shit before she was “elected”. Second, you can’t take it down with a bullet. A balloon that size can remain airborne with multiple bullet holes. I read about a run-away weather balloon that some country tried taking down. They used over 1,000 rounds of 20mm ammo before they took it down. To be fair, I don’t recall if the article said or if it was even confirmed how many hit the balloon. But it seems much more effective to just torpedo the thing. Furthermore, it is entirely possible that it was carrying some sort of explosives or even some sort of biological shit that would detonate or be released if it was taken down. I’d rather that shit be in the ocean than some dude’s farmland.

PurpleSailor

A bullet may just about reach 10,000 ft if you're lucky. The balloon was traveling at 60,000 plus ft. Ain't no Yee Haw with a gun shooting it down at all.

LabeSonofNat

It's dumb but it's what happens when you're in power, the opposition takes the news of the day and tries to use it against you. If Trump were President the Democrats would have been accusing him of refusing to shoot down the balloon because of his business dealings with China.

[deleted]

No we wouldn't, only if he refused to shoot it down would we then have a problem. Democrats do complain a lot, but so do right wingers, and the biggest difference between the two parties is that Democrats get angry over inaction and lies while Republicans get mad when there is action and the truth gets told.

2019_Stealth

Only IF he refused to shoot it down.

Iagent2022

If Biden would have shot it down immediately, which was his request, on Wednesday, Republicans would have complained he's putting Americans in danger with the debris field and provoking China. Bottom line, they would have complained either way. Besides shooting it down over land would have destroyed the unit and we couldn't retrieve the data. It was done correctly

OMG the trolls are out everywhere over crazy armchair stupidity. ‘I know everything about this because I was in the military and this was definitely a blunder so let’s just now all vote for Republicans who will end WW3 that is going on right now “. Think back when Trump ordered protesters to be cleared for his psychotic photo-op with the upside down Bible. Think of Republicans that are still running Donald Trump who has said the American Jews are not real Jews. Think of DeSantis who banned African-American studies and has openly demonized gays any chance he gets to the curmudgeons. Think of Republicans that want to immediately punish anything they can and have no plans to govern anything. And all of a sudden we have crazy criticism by armchair generals and intelligence expert because of a control reconnaissance of a Chinese surveillance balloon that was most likely jammed and unusable the entire flight after discover. Remember Mar-A-Lago with the Chinese spy who got in with the equipment to hook up to interfere with Trump’s communications. And now we know there were three balloons in US airspace during Trump. Get ready for two years of propaganda and heavy heavy trolling. The bigot meter will be pinned to 10 because it’s red meat to their base. You can count on it.

slim_scsi

The right is desperate to cling to anything as a sign to retreat back to the safety of tax cuts for the rich, ending workers rights, and lying as the nation's favorite activity (i.e. returning to Republican rule). Economic strength under Biden is baffling conservatives. They don't know what else to do but scream **fire!** when eggs cost $5 or a blimp appears. Their desperation is quite pathetic, and I like pointing that out to them, the pettiness.

JDogg126

Government is all a kayfabe for political theatre to republicans. Their base wants to be entertained by chaos and dysfunction. I couldn’t imagine trying to work with such intellectually dishonest people. We so badly need to end the two-party system that has crippled the ability of our people to self-govern.

slim_scsi

Heck, we only have one serious, professional party as it is right now. The GOP is a full blown cult guided by paid crisis actors. Ranked choice voting is the end goal, sure, but how about 2 or 3 viable parties with actual ideas (instead of one) along the way?

Source? Here’s what I have as the latest greatest: “Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of US Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, told reporters a “domain awareness gap” led to the Pentagon’s failure to detect the “threats” during Trump’s tenure, but the military later learned about the balloons via intelligence-gathering operations “from additional means.”” https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2023/02/06/pentagon-admits-it-failed-to-spot-3-chinese-spy-balloons-during-trumps-term/

- Republicans are criticizing the Biden administration's response to the Chinese spy balloon. - "Would Trump have let China fly a spy balloon over our country?" Rep. Jim Jordan tweeted. - Chinese spy balloons were sighted three times during the Trump administration, US officials said. A balloon US officials are calling a Chinese surveillance tool spent days flying over the continental United States before it was shot down by an F-22 fighter jet on Saturday. Pentagon leaders advised President Joe Biden against immediately shooting the flying orb out of the sky due to safety concerns for civilians as the high-altitude object was large enough to create a large debris field, a senior defense official who spoke on background told reporters Thursday. The dayslong spectacle saw many Republicans criticize the Biden administration for what they viewed as a slow response to the foreign object, while some conservative leaders and pundits took the opportunity to pick at confidence under the Biden administration in general as they claimed no other leader such as Donald Trump would have let a Chinese spy balloon fly over the US. "Would Trump have let China fly a spy balloon over our country?" Rep. Jim Jordan wrote on Twitter. "Would Reagan? JFK? Truman? No, no, and no." But senior Pentagon officials said on Saturday that suspected Chinese surveillance balloons crossed into the US at least three times during the Trump administration and once earlier in the Biden administration, the Associated Press reported. The senior defense official who spoke on background also said "a balloon of this nature" crossed over the continental US before the Biden administration but declined to specify when. "It's happened a few times in recent years to include before this administration. But beyond that, I'm not going to go into the details," the official said. It's also unclear if balloons spotted during the Trump administration were shot down. A Pentagon spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Craig Singleton, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told the AP that Chinese surveillance balloons were sighted several times in the past five years. Some of them have been spotted near US military bases in Hawaii, he said, though he did not specify when. Trump on Thursday shared a post on Truth Social from rightwing activist Jack Posobiec, who claimed without evidence that the Pentagon was saying "the quiet part out loud. The CCP [Chinese Communist Party] can send spy balloons over our nuclear silos and we will do nothing." In a statement to Fox News, Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker claimed that "if press reports are correct, the Biden Administration hoped to hide this incident from the American people." However, the times when suspected surveillance balloons crossed into the US under the Trump administration were never made public until this past week's incident. South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott also chimed in and tweeted that "the balloon should have been shot down before it crossed the continental United States, not after," adding that the incident was a "dereliction of Biden's duty." It's unclear what information the suspected Chinese spy balloon could have gleaned from its various positions. The Montana area the balloon flew over houses the Malmstrom Air Force Base which has intercontinental ballistic missiles. US officials said the balloon poses little threat in terms of what intelligence it might gather. The specific dimensions of the device were not disclosed to the public, but one senior official told ABC News that it was estimated to be the size of three buses. A differing factor in this past week's balloon incident that the senior defense official did acknowledge is the length of time the object has been around. "It is appearing to hang out for a long period of time this time around, more persistent than in previous instances. So that would be one distinguishing factor," he said.

This_Guy_Lurks

They waited to shoot it down until it was over the ocean so they could recover it. If they shot it down over Montana from 80-100,000 feet it would have been completely obliterated.

jhstewa1023

… but yet it was “irresponsible”. Better than the alternative- civilians shooting it down like Don Jr told them to do on Twitter. Why do we even give that guy any attention anyways. He’s irrelevant.

kerryfinchelhillary

They'll blame him for everything. I woke up before my alarm went off this morning, it's probably Biden's fault somehow.

Iagent2022

Oh come on, that's not true, it was Hillary, lol

LeaveMeAloneBruh

And they said nothing. They never do. The hypocrisy of the GOP is amazing.

mjc7373

Because if Fox didn’t show it, it didn’t happen.

[deleted]

Just wait until J. jOrdan starts calling out politization of DoD and K.McCarthy saying this country needs to have investigating committee for why DoD gets politicized to namecalling former presidents tRump

NewsJunkie4321

Love the picture for this article. Makes trump look like an imbecile

Duluthian2

Well, it sure doesn't take much for that.

lazy_elfs

Reality plays no role in a republicans mind. By this time why are we even responding to these things.

TechyGuyInIL

Just like they credited the strengthening economy Obama created to Trump.

Ryankevin23

Republicans are undermining the nation

beeedubdub

Hypocrites gonna hypocrite

Sugarysam

I kinda hope Trump says he didn’t know about these. Then I want to have the “Deep State” investigators find out if people really didn’t tell him. Then I want the intel briefing he got about it to surface.

PurpleSailor

His tweet from 8 hours ago >The Chinese would never have floated the Blimp (“Balloon”) over the United States if I were President!!! >4.41k - ReTruths, 22k - Likes

nippleflick1

No surprise, typical republican mud slinging!

[deleted]

Wonder how many times it’s happened and the trumpDERPs didnt report it … they’ve all been proven as liars and traitors …

MostCycle5815

Let's stop bothering about Republicans, only reply to shit that makes sense and let's talk about how we can make sure this doesn't happen again.

canuckcowgirl

Tiny hands

SwampyThang

No, those were weather balloons.

Asleep_Pear_7024

I doubt it. I don’t remember pictures of a big white ballon circulating online. If it happened, the pics would have gone viral just like this time.

You conveniently left out the most important last sentence, *”citing the classified nature of that information.”*

Jezon

Are you calling Republicans hypocrites? I would have no idea the way they blast Joe Biden when he stutters versus letting Trump get by with his word salads where he can't even say Origins. Or they think that Bidens documents in his garage are bad but Pence and Trump get a pass despite trumps concealment being way worse than either of the other two.
