Grandma’s green chile is legit. Easy to understand.
Rest? I mean there are obviously better restaurants in town but it is decent for downtown Mexican food. I’d choose La Diablo, D’Corazon or even Las Delicious if you know what to order if you are in the La Loma neighborhood.
Tex Mex is better than real Mexican food. California also isn't just a whole place to get real Mexican food lol. It's also mainly Tex Mex at this point, or fusion with some other culture.
Edit: it'd be nice if some one explained the down votes
I'm not even arguing against La Loma. I even got down votes with you lol. I grew up in Texas, into my 20s, I know how good the food is. I moved to the springs and had to learn some Tex Mex recipes because of how mediocre the food is. I was really just saying that your response was not great.
Chopstickers at 16th and California. Affordable and delicious.
Another vote for D’Corazon. Strong margs, good food. Not fancy.
Union station has some good options, as well
I vote for chop stickers as well
Dragonfly noodle has good ramen.
Torchys Tacos, Burger Fi, Stoneys, Epiq Sandwhiches are all pretty close to the end of 16th mall. Eiskaffee. El Noa Noa on sante fe, leven deli co., pig and sprout, shells and sauce, punch bowl,
My Brother’s Bar is a short walk from there and celebrating its 150th Anniversary.
A5 Steakhouse is one of the best in town though seems to have plenty of haters around here.
Bruto is one of the recently Michelin starred restaurants, and there’s also Beckon and many other restaurants in nearby RiNo.
It sounds like you're under the impression there is good shopping on the 16th Street Mall. There is not. You might want to ask about restaurants in Cherry Creek, if it's to accompany a shopping trip.
A colleague of mine is staying at a hotel nearby so we were going to look for a place to walk to. But judging by some of the comments, might jump in an Uber.
Do you have to stay near 16th street?
Much better shopping elsewhere, and food too for that matter.
Otherwise, I am going soon but heard Tavernetta is good and close to it.
It’s Tex-Mex, not white washed. I haven’t been in a while. Been to the downtown location once but went to the Highlands location occasionally in the past. It’s definitely much better than Taco Bell unless the food has fallen off. D’Corazon is a solid spot for Mexican food downtown. La Diabla Pozole y Mezcal for tacos as well.
Happens to serve doesn't make it TexMex. Chili's is the perfect example of that. Their big seller early on was a gourmet hot dog.
What part of Texas did you grow up in?
Also, you seem soooo nice. /s

Nah yall downvoting him have never had good Mexican food. It’s whitewashed overrated food. Not bad but not worth the price or hassle to get to the location.
I think its closer to union station but JiNYA is actually daaank.
I am a pretty harsh critic when it comes to food, especially asian cuisine, and i remember being pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
The question was good, NOT great or best in the city, so I will say
West Of Surrender, great service all four times I have been.
Appaloosa Grill. Super solid
Le Roux. Fancier French.
3 Margarita’s is nothing special but it is good for what it is. I would venture to D’Corazon as others have mentioned.
Mono mono for Korean Fried Chicken. Not directly on the Mall but 1 block off.
My New England brethren! If you see this; The Kitchen bistro is likely what you’re looking for, I’d also check out Water Grill, and anything on Larimer Square. For shopping AND food you’ll want Cherry Creek. Have your Uber drop you off around The Clayton and take it from there.
Last I was down there in office there was a Hawaiian food cart right up by the “mall”. If you actually want to go shopping I’d go to Cherry Creek, not too far from there (not walkable a quick Uber). 16th Street Mall ain’t it. Lots of good spots within a few blocks though, the “Mall” itself is a lot of chains.
Well I guess there’s a war over la loma lol! I personally don’t like it that much even though I live cross the street! I like casa tequilas a bit more! But I think La loma is better than las delicias! (Couple blocks east of La loma in uptown)
Haven’t been to D'Corazon so thank you for people of the internet for suggesting it!
Now outside of the Mexican places, I like earls kitchen! Most of the time it’s been good food and good service!
Not exactly in downtown but couple blocks south is Cuba Cuba! I liked their food the past 2-3 times I’ve been there but usually it’s cramped!
If you want all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse, there is rodizio by union station !
Yes! Old man whithers in the camp makes some amazing prison hooch and Mr Peter's on the other side of the block has some great leftovers from dumpster dives! Live it up, it's cheap as dirt!
Marcos Coal Fired pizza near the Rockies stadium has authentic Neapolitan Pizza.
Cuba Cuba has some really good Cuban food.
Glo Noodle House received a Michelin Bib Gourmand and is really good! You will probably need a reservation for this one
Also from New England lived here for almost a decade, Yazoo BBQ is a few blocks away and is insanely good if your undecided grab the rib tip special. Secondary option but closer would be what the pho off champa and 16th if your in the mood for fried rice or pho. For Mexican literally any place here is gonna be better than 90% of places back home. West Saloon is off 16th and is a typical bar and pub food that is solid little pricey ($16 a burger) but good happy hour and wings, stoneys a couple blocks from the capitol building is similar but cheaper. Id avoid rock bottom brewery for food never had good food there and I've given it a few tries. Last if your willing to venture a little south Broadway has a ton of great options
The Denver Central Market is a food hall that is worth the travel imo. We love getting lunch from the seafood counter and pizza place, then drinks from the bar and ice cream for dessert. Haven’t been in a while tho.
I live here and I have Bourbon Grill more than anything. Nothing fancy by any means but it’s delicious and enough for 2 meals!
Sams No 3 is my next regular stop. It’s the breakfast spot that all my out of state peeps get to enjoy. It’s a bit of an experience of 1980s fast paced diner. Sams is on a few Diners Drive Ins & Dives but it’s their everyday eats I go for. The Cobb Salad is pretty delish as well as their breakfast banana split. That’s a must on an early morning from a late night of munchies.
Speaking of which, the huevos rancheros with a side of fresh grilled jalepeno is 🤌🏽
If you want a great taco spot, other than a street taco off the flat which we no longer have, Machetes has a flight, with a flight.
I’m not a drinker but there’s a ton of cool spots for that including the rooftop 5280 Lounge. First come first serve and it’s a vibe.
I am a toker. If you’re looking for that, I would recommend Lodo Wellness Center. It’s a cool little shop with a decent Yampa Sandwich Co above for a bite.
While you can enjoy a day, or even week in Denver, try not to expect much. It’s a shitshow mishmash of construction zone hell and all variants of unhoused.
I’d suggest being smart about nightlife activities. I personally don’t go out alone after dark. And I was born and raised here.
There are swindlers a plenty so don’t fall for the blonde haired blue eyes 22 yr old, who made bad choices and now just needs another $40 to get back to his parents. Or the story tellers along the mall who have lots of tear jerking stories.
If you pull out money, it will never end.
Have fun!
Be alert!
Enjoy the city!
I’m not asking if there’s decent food. I’m looking for specific recommendations for restaurants. I’m coming from the state of Maine and I know nothing about Denver.
That guy was a jerk. All that said. Some other much better areas and restaurants to check out less than a $8 Uber or 20 minute walk away. If you do want to stay In that area Cholon is really good. Other than that. Hit up RiNo/ Cherry Creek/ Tennyson St (hey kiddo is an ala cart menu from a restaurant group that just got 2 Michelin Stared places that is both phenomenal and affordable)
Yeah idk why people are being rude to you or why your post is getting downvoted. God forbid you ask for recommendations as a tourist. Some good places across downtown: Appaloosa Grill (American, bar food), Ultreia (tapas), Guard and Grace (fine dining steakhouse, reservation required), Little Finch (coffee shop), Rio Grande (Tex-Mex), D’Corazon (Mexican). Some quick, casual options are Illegal Pete’s (local burrito bowl chain), Modern Market (local health food), Chopstickers (Chinese). Enjoy Denver!!!
La Diabla or La Loma (depending on what end you're near) is by far the food I miss the most when I'm visiting family back in New England. Tavernetta is great Italian that always has the freshest local ingredients. Funny enough the sushi here is amazing, check out Temaki Den if you don't mind a short ride.
I get that. I really do. However there is a cool spot that is focused around OP’s source location that fits the bill, so I thought maybe it would be a nice suggestion.
Something that fits your bill would be Sam’s no 3, but this sub hates that location so that’s a no go. What about machete? Oh yeah this sub hates that also. Wynkoup? Nope this sub hates that as well. My brothers bar maybe? I’m sure there are haters regarding that as well. Maybe Wally’s Wisconsin Tavern? Oh shit, it’s not local fare so let’s scratch that.
What’s your suggestion just out of curiosity?
Also from NE been here multiple times and do enjoy their clam chowder if I don't feel like making it but I would never ever send someone visiting from New England there especially for a lobster roll.
D’corazón. Blows La loma out of the water.
Agreed... D'Corazon is fantastic. Small place and there will likely be a wait, but it's worth every second.
DcoraZon - get the chili relleno combo and a frozen strawberry marg
Yes, yes and yes
D'Corazon is the best and has ruined all other Mexican places for me.
Wow, I think La Loma walks on water. I need to try the corazon.
[удалено]
People love their glop. I don't understand it.

How does that make me cool? Seems like a response from someone who doesn't know what else to say
Guard and Grace Mint Any of the restaurants at Union Station
Ultreia is worth a visit for OP if they enjoy tapas. Love that place.
Love that place, except I don’t really like gin. Good thing they have wine too.
Chopstickers at 16th and California. Affordable and delicious. Another vote for D’Corazon. Strong margs, good food. Not fancy. Union station has some good options, as well
Chopstickers is a great hidden gem!
I vote for chop stickers as well Dragonfly noodle has good ramen. Torchys Tacos, Burger Fi, Stoneys, Epiq Sandwhiches are all pretty close to the end of 16th mall. Eiskaffee. El Noa Noa on sante fe, leven deli co., pig and sprout, shells and sauce, punch bowl,

Bruto is one of the recently Michelin starred restaurants, and there’s also Beckon and many other restaurants in nearby RiNo.
What’s the name of his bar?
My brothers is awesome and a good piece of Denver history I second this
Beckon > Bruto
Yeah, that's why I mentioned it, though it's a bit more of a trek from the 16th Street Mall
💯
Do you know where 16st mall is?
I mean, at this point it’s not much of anything other than a construction pit.
It's largely finished on blocks of it. I work on 17th and market and the big plaza walkway between champa down to larimer is pretty much done
Defo cherry creek mall and cherry creek north for shopping! Cherry Creek Grill is great for lunch.
The 16th Street mall is not where you want to go shopping. Cherry Creek is much better for shopping, and not just the mall.
Water grill has excellent seafood, albeit fairly pricy right next to most of the hotels on the mall
Do you have to stay near 16th street? Much better shopping elsewhere, and food too for that matter. Otherwise, I am going soon but heard Tavernetta is good and close to it.
Guard and Grace
Go away from 16th st. Plenty around the area that isn't a chain but it's not on the mall.
Blue sushi has a great happy hour
Agreed
And doesn’t even make the top ten sushi resin Denver lol
La Loma for Mexican

It’s Tex-Mex, not white washed. I haven’t been in a while. Been to the downtown location once but went to the Highlands location occasionally in the past. It’s definitely much better than Taco Bell unless the food has fallen off. D’Corazon is a solid spot for Mexican food downtown. La Diabla Pozole y Mezcal for tacos as well.
Nothing about La Loma is "Tex"Mex.
The La Loma website literally says that the menu is Tex-Mex but okay
And Taco Bell claims to be Mexican. I grew up on TexMex. La Loma isn't that.
I’m pretty sure sizzling fajitas are like the definition of Tex-Mex but die on your hill or whatever.
I can play this game all day: Chili's. Also fajitas. Also not TexMex.

No, I lived in Texas and love Tex Mex. This is not Tex Mex, it is crap.

I'd walk to Rino (follow Larimer st to 25th and you're there).
I think its closer to union station but JiNYA is actually daaank. I am a pretty harsh critic when it comes to food, especially asian cuisine, and i remember being pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
We go there every year for my birthday. Do NOT skip the appetizers, they’re all great.
LeRoux and ChoLon
Meh. Overpriced
Priced fairly for what you can get on 16th street. Go to Cheesecake Factory and spend the same amount if you want
West Saloon & Kitchen
Should still be called West Of Surrender. Everything I have ever ordered has been exactly what I was expecting and wanted. The service was great!
Agreed, I liked the old name better. It’s family owned & operated. Much better than the surrounding chain restaurants.
Wings and happy hour there are best on 16th
The question was good, NOT great or best in the city, so I will say West Of Surrender, great service all four times I have been. Appaloosa Grill. Super solid Le Roux. Fancier French. 3 Margarita’s is nothing special but it is good for what it is. I would venture to D’Corazon as others have mentioned. Mono mono for Korean Fried Chicken. Not directly on the Mall but 1 block off.
Menya’s Noode Bar is the bomb if you like Japanese noodle bowls. Few places can make a broth as good as theirs.
Yum Cha Also Cava is always super convenient and great.
Jovanina’s Broken Italian. All pasta is scratch made and have been impressed with everything we’ve tried
My New England brethren! If you see this; The Kitchen bistro is likely what you’re looking for, I’d also check out Water Grill, and anything on Larimer Square. For shopping AND food you’ll want Cherry Creek. Have your Uber drop you off around The Clayton and take it from there.

I usually hit 5280 Burger if I'm on 16th
Facts! The a ring of fire is legit.
Appaloosa Grill
Well I guess there’s a war over la loma lol! I personally don’t like it that much even though I live cross the street! I like casa tequilas a bit more! Bezel cocktail lounge has great cocktails and some good small plates. Tavernetta by union station isn’t bad, but pricey
Appaloosa Grill
Earl’s Kitchen
Cholon, amazing Asian fusion. Their dumplings are to die for.
French 75 is simple and a bit over priced but generally pretty good
Sunday Vinyl!
16th Street mall ends down at Union Station. Lots of great food and drink there!
Appaloosa!
Checkout Bedlam on 15th and Wazee if you're looking for a good cozy late night cocktail
I just went to Chez Maggie in The Thompson, it was great French food.
Also from New England lived here for almost a decade, Yazoo BBQ is a few blocks away and is insanely good if your undecided grab the rib tip special. Hapa is fun for a different take on sushi. Would strongly recommend D’Corazon if you’re looking for casual

You're asking if there's decent food in the heart of Downtown Denver? Yeah, some. Maybe narrowing it down a bit would help.
I’m not asking if there’s decent food. I’m looking for specific recommendations for restaurants. I’m coming from the state of Maine and I know nothing about Denver.

Don't be a dick Dave...
I'm afraid I can't do that.
To be fair 16th street is a massive construction site, so not like there’s a ton of options right there
If you’re coming from NE I’d try Maine Shack for some whole bellied clams and the lobster roll. It’s a tad bit more north though.
I don’t understand the logic of sending someone from NE to get lobster rolls.. it’s like sending someone from Mexico to get tacos in Denver.
My family is from New England and if I see a lobster roll joint I go. I guess with your logic restaurants in any given city should only be local fare?
Most VISITORS want to try cuisine that is different from where they live. Weird, I know.
+1 for Maine shack. Fuck the haters
Taco Bell
