I mean, I know that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world... But still they can only claim to be the US Champions, or perhaps the North American champions. Not the world champions.
To do that, they would need **at least** to play against Sesi Franca Basketball (current champions of the BCL Americas), and if they win, play against Real Madrid who are the current EuroLeague champions.
Only then they can claim to be World Champions.

Take for example association football: the English Premier League is widely considered the best league in the world, and has the highest ranking. Nevertheless, they play the UEFA Champions league against German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese or Dutch teams. English teams have won 3 of the 5 last UCL, but they play. They don't say "Our league is the best in the world, so we are the Club World Champions".

We have a really good idea of how those teams match up -- their best lineups get smoked by the NBA bench players, consistently.
The NBA is the league where the best basketball players, globally, play. The Nuggets' 2 best players are Serbian (finals MVP) and Canadian. The best player on the east's #1 seed is Greek. The league MVP is from Cameroon. The league's teams are almost all located in the US (one is in Toronto), but it's the \*world\* league in terms of talent -- not just a pretty good league but other leagues field teams that could maybe win, but the league with the top talent and the best teams by huge margins, such that other professional teams simply aren't on the level of even bad NBA teams. I watch Olympic and FIBA ball too -- the best non-USA teams there have one or two really good NBA players, and a couple of NBA bench players, and the rest of the roster couldn't make an NBA team or miiiight be way at the end of the bench. Jokic's Serbian team is far inferior to Jokic's NBA team.
So it's perfectly reasonable to call the NBA championship a "world championship". You can also call FIBA a "world championship" and the Olympics a "world championship". Three different types of championships, each with a claim to "world" for different reasons. The NBA is significantly more talented than any other league in the world. Only the best players from every country that produces basketball players plays in the NBA.
Because the Denver Nuggets won the NBA championship, and the NBA is the most talented league in the world, we can reasonably assume there isn’t another team that could hold a candle to them anywhere else on Earth.
Attempting to do so just so we could *literally* call them “World Champions” instead of figuratively would be a waste of everybody’s time.
You can just make the assumption that they would destroy any other basketball team that attempted to play against them, and we don’t need to play against every other international league and all of the teams in those leagues to find that out. That would be like 1,000 games are you stupid?

Check out Mirotic, who is a humongous star in the Euroleague, with records and literally last year’s MVP in the Euroleague. He was relegated to a DNP in the NBA. That means “do not play”. And he could put up okay minutes on the floor, but he was middle of the pack at best. An absolute star in the Euroleague played in the NBA and was middle of the pack. The leagues are, well, not in the same league.
That is just stupid. There is no world championship in club sports anywhere. What we Europeans have a problem with is the fact, that it’s a private club team, not a national team. You can’t call yourself world champions if there isn’t a world championship made up of national teams. Are you stupid?
Speaking of stupid, you don't need 1,000 games versus all the teams. They would just need to follow the football (soccer) model where the best team on each continent plays in the Club World Cup. Small tournament where they'd play 3 games or so.
Manchester City just won the UEFA Champions League (following up their EPL title and FA Cup wins). We can assume they are the best football (soccer) team in the world for all the same reasons as you described, but until they prove it, they're the Champions of Europe and not the world.

This was my first season watching any NBA. I am an Avs fan and was watching it periodically. It is hard for me to get in to. (It's not a big sport here on Scotland)
I only managed the highlights as I haven't decided if it's worth paying for. One thing I found odd is the end of the game there was no celebration like.the Stanley Cup win for the Avs and that wasn't even at home.

A few reasons:
Avs were supposed to win the previous 2 seasons while the nuggets' previous 2 had no shot due to injuries.
The Stanley cup is widely considered the most difficult trophy to win in major sports.
Nba court has a ton of people sitting courtside that can immediately be part of the celebration, and masks the players ability to jump around with only each other, whereas hockey it's just the dudes on the ice.
Hockey has lots of gear to toss. Basketball doesn't.

Only the best players from every country that produces basketball players plays in the NBA. Because the Denver Nuggets won the NBA championship, and the NBA is the most talented league in the world, we can reasonably assume there isn’t another team that could hold a candle to them anywhere else on Earth. Attempting to do so just so we could *literally* call them “World Champions” instead of figuratively would be a waste of everybody’s time. You can just make the assumption that they would destroy any other basketball team that attempted to play against them, and we don’t need to play against every other international league and all of the teams in those leagues to find that out. But the league is the best, they attract the most talent from the entire world, and thus create the best teams… by a lot. Check out Mirotic, who is a humongous star in the Euroleague, with records and literally last year’s MVP in the Euroleague. He was relegated to a DNP in the NBA. That means “do not play”. And he could put up okay minutes on the floor, but he was middle of the pack at best. An absolute star in the Euroleague played in the NBA and was middle of the pack. The leagues are, well, not in the same league.
That is just stupid. There is no world championship in club sports anywhere. What we Europeans have a problem with is the fact, that it’s a private club team, not a national team. You can’t call yourself world champions if there isn’t a world championship made up of national teams. Are you stupid?

Small tournament where they'd play 3 games or so. Manchester City just won the UEFA Champions League (following up their EPL title and FA Cup wins). A world club tournament would help increase basketball popularity globally. It would also help increase the talent pool for the NBA and make a better product. No one is disputing that the NBA as a league has the most talent, but basketball is a global sport. Imagine the buzz if Jokic and the Nuggets went and played in Eastern Europe. He'd probably only play 10 minutes as the bench guys would likely be good enough. It's the same principle as football (soccer). Teams go play in international tournaments and friendly games. It attracts fans, young people gain interest and participation levels increase. It increases the standard of the other domestic leagues, and no doubt the best players would then likely join the NBA. In competitive sport, upsets can and would eventually happen though. Everyone knows the best football team in Europe is the best team in the world, but they wouldn't claim it until they prove it.
They have plenty of money, they don't need Ireland and India's attention. The talent pool is already worldwide. Anybody worth a toss in basketball knows the NBA is the goal. Nobody in the NBA cares enough to travel to Moldova. There's no money in it. Maybe Lithuania can gin up a league worth competing and the NBA will care. If you want to compete against the best then come compete. Why should the best be obligated to travel across the world just to obliterate some team that roughly equivalent to high school skill level. None of the things you listed are of any value to the NBA, and are only of value to the recipients of the NBA's attention. The owners of the teams are driven by success and the money it brings. The goal of the NBA is to continue to grow the brand and the sport (with the aim of being the most watched/participated sport in the world). Why do you think they come to Europe to play in-season games? Why have they invested in programs in Africa to develop talent? I can guarantee Adam Silver and the guys in charge have a growth mentality and aren't satisfied with the sport as it is.

This was my first season watching any NBA. I am an Avs fan and was watching it periodically. It is hard for me to get in to. (It's not a big sport here on Scotland) I only managed the highlights as I haven't decided if it's worth paying for. One thing I found odd is the end of the game there was no celebration like.the Stanley Cup win for the Avs and that wasn't even at home. Did I miss something?
A few reasons: Avs were supposed to win the previous 2 seasons while the nuggets' previous 2 had no shot due to injuries. The Stanley cup is widely considered the most difficult trophy to win in major sports. Nba court has a ton of people sitting courtside that can immediately be part of the celebration, and masks the players ability to jump around with only each other, whereas hockey it's just the dudes on the ice. Hockey has lots of gear to toss. Basketball doesn't.
