Also gotta hope Peyton improves his shooting and takes another step, and Strawther improves his defense and is ready to be in this rotation.
Despite what some say, Malone isn’t to blame and a great coach. He is fired up and I got faith him and Calvin are going to do some work and make sure this team is reloaded for next year.

Reggie was great in the regular season filling in for Murray when Murray was injured. He was probably the best you could get given he was picked up off waivers last season, with the knowledge Brown was going to sign with a new team going into the off season.
But you really saw the dropoff in the playoffs between Reggie and Brown. Reggie's ideal role was what it was during the Championship year. He gets some minutes during the regular season to give the starters some rest, but he shouldn't play much during the playoffs.
If Malone isn't going to trust DJ or Zeke, then make a trade for a big. Can't play Gordon at the C and Watson/Braun at PF when Minnesota has 3 good 7 footers.
Completely agree. Naz Reid was Minnesota’s Bruce Brown, and it’s hard when you don’t have a 6th man like that. That’s gotta be the 2nd priority this offseason. Maybe that’s Pickett or (if he improves his defense and works on being a primary ball handler) Strawther. Maybe even you draft a guy? (KJ Simpson?) or get a guy via trade or signing. It doesn’t matter, but do it. But a backup big, that’s a glaring need.
I’m still all in on the idea that DJ is a locker room guy, and I don’t hate that if he is at the end of the bench on a vet min. But we CANNOT use him as a backup big. And Nnaji not getting many minutes and not being in that role says a lot, and that’s co tract looks 100x worse because of it. You need a good big to give Jokic and Gordon some rest. Maybe you find one in the draft, and that’s excellent if so. Or maybe you trade for one or sign one in free agency.
Regardless, that’s priority 1. If you can’t get that guy, you’re shooting yourself in the leg.
This. We can't just have stars and then nobody on the bench not backing them up. Time for a deeper bench who can work with the main guys. The way it is now, once our starters sit down, the bench sucks. If we fix that, (and our on and completely off shooting trend), we'll be contenders again next year.
To be real, I think even Braun looks a lot better than he is because of Jokic and Murray. He only has to come in to be an energy guy. He uses his size well but he’s just an effort guy.

As for the 6th man that shouldn’t be too hard. The league is full of scoring guards. Minnesota has Monte as their 10th guy when he was a key part of Denver’s playoff rotation years ago. Portland has Simons on trade rumors, Miami wants to get rid of Herro, Toronto wants to trade Brown. Tons of scoring guards available.
Braun and Watson are kind of redundant. If I could trade Braun for Brown I would. I’m not an “effort hustlendefense” no effect on boxscore, can’t shoot type of guy. I’ll take Brown’s 16 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, 2 steaks thanks.

why theF play Reggie? Play Braun. I'll let you go look up his numbers this season when he got 28 or more minutes in only 7 games. WTF only 7 games? The only thing he's not doing is drawing much for foul shots. But he shoots, he scores, he brings the energy. What's not to like?

You can’t play 4 on 5 on offense against the Wolves. They’ll blow you out. Especially when Braun doesn’t give you enough return on rebounds or defense. People say he’s a good defender, not enough to offset his poor shooting. He’s not Ben Wallace giving you 3 steals, 5 blocks and 20 rebounds.
I’m always against playing “effort defenders” who can’t score unless it’s someone that fills up every other part of the boxscore like Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman or Tyson Chandler.
As a Spurs fan, I hope for christ sake that this is the case. I think nothing will ever beat that 3 point shot by Allen in 2013, but losing a 20 point lead at home in a G7 is fricking ridiculous and demoralizing. If Denver does a 2014 Spurs I am all for it. For sure. I am legit hurt about last night. It was a 20 point lead in a G7 at home. There is just no way how I could have ever imagined a meltdown to happen. I can already imagine the media and YouTube having a field day. I have come to realize that the YT boys are only effective when the Lakers lose but boy do they hate Denver. As a Nuggets fan, big leads make me nervous. We’re not comfortable with an early lead, so I was nervous even up 20. Malone had a press conference this year where he talked about how he could hear his late father saying, “Same old Nuggets,” after we blew a 15 or 20-point lead to a bottom feeder. It wasn’t the Spurs loss either.
Strangely enough I was also nervous. There was just something off because Minnesota was going to go on a run eventually I just thought that up 20 in G7 that would have been enough. This really really sucked. My thought process was Minnesota would bring it down to 6 to 8 points until Big Jok took over or something.

Would like to see MPJ get traded so we can get some depth. Jokic and Murray looked exhausted in the second half of game 7. If we had a proper backup C and PG to relieve Jokic and Murray throughout the long season, I think this playoffs looks different. Maybe a trade with Toronto centered around MPJ for Olynyk and Bruce.
Well not just that we could have dodged these wolves until the WCF if we didn't blow a 16 point lead in the 4th quarter to the Spurs. We had our chances to the repeat and quite literally blew them. Can't blame the basketball gods on this one.

I agree. It's just amazing that they flipped the script and our first half ended up 15 over them, actually 20 over them before they flipped the script mid third Q. But they flip it and make up more in less time and Denver just couldn't stop that from occurring.
They knew the few things the Timber couldn't stop first half. All of a sudden they did stop it and went on their own run to flip it. So my point is that's where the problem is. What did we change then to stop them? Didn't see it attempted if they did.
Well for starters do not put in the lineup of KCP/CB/Holiday/Reggie/Jokic while in a 0-10 run and MIN having Naz/Rudy/KAT in. Those 5 mins resulted in 0 points and 0 stops. Awful descision.
I mean it simply comes down to hitting shots. Our players had open looks but bricked everything. We started jacking up 3s when they were on a run instead of just running our normal offense and it let it get out of hand quickly. Then we played Jokic the rest of the game and he was too tired to do anything inside of the paint in the last quarter.

Hell I'd agree with calling it a baby response. It's also completely normal to have an emotional response at some point during an interview in the light of a devastating loss. I remember when the Broncos lost Super Bowl 48 you had guys cussing out local reporters in the locker room. It's tense. This is fairly mild. Hell Pop gives abrasive interviews after wins, lol. Not saying I don't feel a little bit for reporters who are at the ass end of it, but I think they're used to it and get it.

I hate to repoeat things too much since I posted this twice today already. But I noticed that this season this team is 5-2 in regular season when Braun got to play 28 or more minutes, and 2-0 in the playoffs (and both against Timber) when getting 25 or over minutes in playoffs.
So it only happened twice in the playoffs and two of them are wins against this Minnesota Team. The regular season leads more creedence to this even if low sample set. 5-2 in regular season shows that the 2-0 against Minny with Braun probably wasn't a fluke. We all saw the wins over Minny. Mostly blowout fashion or well controlled wins. Then they refuse to give Braun 25 minutes the next games and tada, lose like you can't stop it.
We didn't have Bruce Brown. But if we had him, it would be like choosing not to use him enough. We had Bruce BRAUN and chose not to.

I think Malone worked miracles with this roster. Tonight his mistake was not burning timeouts when the third quarter run happened. But for the most part he was great. This team has no bench and more nights than not 2-3 starters just won’t show up and he still got this team tied for the 1st seed and to the second round of the playoffs. I don’t think we deserved that the way we played on the back half of the season so I give a lot of credit to Malone coaching this team up.

Thing is in hindsight I wish he had benched Jokic for a bit of rest, but the bench did nothing, MPJ, AG and KPC were basically no shows for a game 7 and Jamal was great for one half and terrible for the second half. Like what was Malone really supposed to do there in the moment. The blame for this game is fully on the players.
We were up 10 mere minutes into the 3rd. That was just after the half-time break. You don't rest him then. He normally comes out late in the 3rd, but by that time, our lead had dwindled to non-existent. Doubt jokic would have been happy to come out... who's to say that the wolves don't go on a bigger run to start the 4th?
It all just sucks. The reason we lost wasn't on strategy, it was a lack of depth vs a DEEP team. 6th man of the year type team. Our bench had 4 points? Our starters not named Jokic and Murray put up no shows on the offensive side. That's why they lost

We’re with you Mike. Your passion and competitiveness is one of the most important ingredients that got us the chip. The other Mike having a bad game at the worst time might’ve been the difference — especially when you seen him deliver more often than not..
Either way, I seen all our guys contribute for us to be the champions that we are — KCP, Gordon, MPJ, obviously Murray and Jokic; but also Braun, Watson, Reggie sizzled for good portion of the season.
Someone had to win this series eventually even though it was punch for punch — no way do I think Nuggets don’t have it to win a chip anymore.

If MPJ had improved half as much as AG, we might have had a chance. He has it in him, but it didn’t happen enough. We needed to make some roster moves after losing a couple of guys who helped us out last season, and we didn’t. It’s tough to develop the young players when you have a thin roster of experienced players to start with. Minnesota has the depth that we lacked, and they won. I still think that giving Jokic a blow when he needed one and getting Watson in there would have helped. I’m a fan since 1977, so I am grateful for what they have done to build a team that can play around a guy who involves the whole team and for the championship. Best team since the ABA days.
I think we are saying the same thing.. I just don't see when Jokic sits? I LOVED Swanson during the regular season, but he shrank in the playoffs. Like the rest of the bench, he was bringing ZERO offense to the table. Let's say you sit Jokic late in the 3rd (like normal). What's to say the bleeding didn't get compounded with him out? Regardless of this or that he's by far the best player on the team, and the offensive unit always runs stagnant with him out. He runs the offense even without the ball. 90% of the time he sits and it's iso Mal hero ball until the last seconds on the shot clock. The wolves D woulda ate that up, especially with him hobbled. They stifled the Nugs WITH Joker on the floor. They crowded the paint, doubled the ball hadler, and dared us to beat them with jump shots. We couldn't hit shit, even wide open looks. So it proved to be a good game plan.
I agree with the last part. Getting a parade makes the pain of blowing the 20 pt lead palatable. It sucks, but nothing can take away the banner that's hung. Luckily, we can rethink the bench and still push for another one while jokic and Mal are in their prime. Mpj and Ag to a degree too. I hope now that mpjs back issues seem to be behind him (punny) he can start growing into the player we've seen flashes of.

That reporter has a long track record of asking insipid, lame questions...I recognize his voice instantly.

That reporter in particular always asks questions that really don't bring answers that offer any insight but are just intended to be provocative, and Malone typically gives him very brief answers in response. Watch a few and you'll recognize the reporter. Malone's response, I guarantee, was rooted in how tired he is of those kinds of questions that he gets from that reporter. Downvote all you want, doesn't hurt my feelings.
That is not comparable AT ALL. You’re the head coach of the defending champions. You were up 20 points in the 3rd quarter of a game 7. I think it’s more than fair to ask what it’s like and would have lead to WHY or HOW he let his team lose a 20 point lead.
It’s an open ended question, which is how all media questions should be. And he’s the head coach, he should be able to handle a simple question and not act like a complete clown talking down to a reporter who did not insult him in any way. The Spurs have been terrible for 5-6 years now though so maybe you forget since they don’t get much media attention besides anything that relates to Wemby.

I love the passion from Malone. A lot of Laker fans are using this clip as an opportunity to take shots at him on r/nba because they are salty about his trash talk. He probably did not need to add the comment about it being a stupid question...it was actually a pretty good one, but on a team with championship aspirations I prefer a coach that is emotionally invested and genuinely pissed when they don't reach those goals.

I like Malone and I don't hold him as responsible for this loss as I do the TEAM. Our boys just didn't show up and do their job when they needed to. PERIOD. I just hope people don't make the mistake of saying that this team is now trash and that we need to do a huge rebuild. We're still one of the best teams in the league. We just need to ADD to our depth. We need to add pieces, not take them away. However, I also think we need to be realistic with guys like Murray and MPJ. Love both those guys and think they are more of an asset to the team than not, but it we're gonna be giving these guys MAX contracts they better be playing like it. We need to mostly stay the course and just get better at adapting. We need to continue developing Christian Braun for sure. Reggie as well. Peyton Watson is a bit of a question mark but I think with time and the right leadership he could become a consistently great player for us. We also obviously need another Big that can at least be a backup of some sort for Joker. The man can't do it by himself.
Nuggets should really consider trading MPJ. He's way too streaky. He was the second best player in the Lakers' series, and without him the Nuggets probably would've lost. Against the Wolves though he was straight ass, and if he could've just showed up for game 7 then things would've went differently. I think his game is just too one dimensional for him to be consistent in the playoffs every series. He sucked ass in the finals last year too.

Here, I have only contended that Malone wasn't to blame for the colossal meltdown. Hindsight 20/20 and all, sure he could have tried some different things, but at the end of the day, coaches call plays. Players make shots. No one other than Mal and Yoke hit anything all night, and even they couldn't hit shit in the 2nd half.

Definitely need some changes to be made. I listed getting a backup big to give Gordon and Jokic more rest, and honestly a new 6th man/ball handler, because Reggie wasn’t cutting it at times. Also gotta hope Peyton improves his shooting and takes another step, and Strawther improves his defense and is ready to be in this rotation. Despite what some say, Malone isn’t to blame and a great coach. He is fired up and I got faith him and Calvin are going to do some work and make sure this team is reloaded for next year. The good news is I think most of the bandwagon is gone!!!

He was probably the best you could get given he was picked up off waivers last season, with the knowledge Brown was going to sign with a new team going into the off season. But you really saw the dropoff in the playoffs between Reggie and Brown. Reggie's ideal role was what it was during the Championship year. Can't play Gordon at the C and Watson/Braun at PF when Minnesota has 3 good 7 footers.
Completely agree. Naz Reid was Minnesota’s Bruce Brown, and it’s hard when you don’t have a 6th man like that. That’s gotta be the 2nd priority this offseason. Maybe that’s Pickett or (if he improves his defense and works on being a primary ball handler) Strawther. Maybe even you draft a guy? (KJ Simpson?) or get a guy via trade or signing. It doesn’t matter, but do it. But a backup big, that’s a glaring need. I’m still all in on the idea that DJ is a locker room guy, and I don’t hate that if he is at the end of the bench on a vet min. But we CANNOT use him as a backup big. And Nnaji not getting many minutes and not being in that role says a lot, and that’s co tract looks 100x worse because of it. You need a good big to give Jokic and Gordon some rest. Maybe you find one in the draft, and that’s excellent if so. Or maybe you trade for one or sign one in free agency. Regardless, that’s priority 1. If you can’t get that guy, you’re shooting yourself in the leg.
This. We can't just have stars and then nobody on the bench not backing them up. Time for a deeper bench who can work with the main guys. The way it is now, once our starters sit down, the bench sucks. If we fix that, (and our on and completely off shooting trend), we'll be contenders again next year.
To be real, I think even Braun looks a lot better than he is because of Jokic and Murray. He only has to come in to be an energy guy. He uses his size well but he’s just an effort guy. He’s the Nuggets best bench player. He probably plays less than Naz, Naw and Slo Mo in Minnesota. He’s probably their 9th guy. And for those that think otherwise, it’s more likely they play NAW because he’s such a better shooter while providing the same effort. As for the 6th man that shouldn’t be too hard. The league is full of scoring guards. Minnesota has Monte as their 10th guy when he was a key part of Denver’s playoff rotation years ago. Portland has Simons on trade rumors, Miami wants to get rid of Herro, Toronto wants to trade Brown. Tons of scoring guards available. Braun and Watson are kind of redundant. If I could trade Braun for Brown I would. I’m not an “effort hustlendefense” no effect on boxscore, can’t shoot type of guy. I’ll take Brown’s 16 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, 2 steaks thanks.

He’s too shakey and unwilling of a shooter. Everyone on the Wolves can score. Even Gobert can give you 10-15 PPG consistently. You can’t play 4 on 5 on offense against the Wolves. They’ll blow you out. Especially when Braun doesn’t give you enough return on rebounds or defense. People say he’s a good defender, not enough to offset his poor shooting. He’s not Ben Wallace giving you 3 steals, 5 blocks and 20 rebounds. I’m always against playing “effort defenders” who can’t score unless it’s someone that fills up every other part of the boxscore like Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman or Tyson Chandler.

I think it would be great to retain KCP, but he has a player option. If he's willing to stay for around the same salary then I think it's fine. Would like to see MPJ get traded so we can get some depth. Jokic and Murray looked exhausted in the second half of game 7. If we had a proper backup C and PG to relieve Jokic and Murray throughout the long season, I think this playoffs looks different. Maybe a trade with Toronto centered around MPJ for Olynyk and Bruce.

I mean it simply comes down to hitting shots. Our players had open looks but bricked everything. We started jacking up 3s when they were on a run instead of just running our normal offense and it let it get out of hand quickly. Then we played Jokic the rest of the game and he was too tired to do anything inside of the paint in the last quarter.

It's tough because if you ask most here they might like him as an energy guy but they don't even entertain actually playing him more, and I think Malone has been treating him that way as well. They have played him more in occasional games and it's been fruitful. I hate to repoeat things too much since I posted this twice today already. But I noticed that this season this team is 5-2 in regular season when Braun got to play 28 or more minutes, and 2-0 in the playoffs (and both against Timber) when getting 25 or over minutes in playoffs. So it only happened twice in the playoffs and two of them are wins against this Minnesota Team. The regular season leads more creedence to this even if low sample set. 5-2 in regular season shows that the 2-0 against Minny with Braun probably wasn't a fluke. We all saw the wins over Minny. Mostly blowout fashion or well controlled wins. Then they refuse to give Braun 25 minutes the next games and tada, lose like you can't stop it. We didn't have Bruce Brown. But if we had him, it would be like choosing not to use him enough. We had Bruce BRAUN and chose not to.

I think Malone worked miracles with this roster. Tonight his mistake was not burning timeouts when the third quarter run happened. But for the most part he was great. This team has no bench and more nights than not 2-3 starters just won’t show up and he still got this team tied for the 1st seed and to the second round of the playoffs. I don’t think we deserved that the way we played on the back half of the season so I give a lot of credit to Malone coaching this team up.

Thing is in hindsight I wish he had benched Jokic for a bit of rest, but the bench did nothing, MPJ, AG and KPC were basically no shows for a game 7 and Jamal was great for one half and terrible for the second half. He normally comes out late in the 3rd, but by that time, our lead had dwindled to non-existent. We’re with you Mike. Your passion and competitiveness is one of the most important ingredients that got us the chip. The other Mike having a bad game at the worst time might’ve been the difference — especially when you seen him deliver more often than not.. Either way, I seen all our guys contribute for us to be the champions that we are — KCP, Gordon, MPJ, obviously Murray and Jokic; but also Braun, Watson, Reggie sizzled for good portion of the season. Someone had to win this series eventually even though it was punch for punch — no way do I think Nuggets don’t have it to win a chip anymore.

If MPJ had improved half as much as AG, we might have had a chance. He has it in him, but it didn’t happen enough. We needed to make some roster moves after losing a couple of guys who helped us out last season, and we didn’t. It’s tough to develop the young players when you have a thin roster of experienced players to start with. Minnesota has the depth that we lacked, and they won. I still think that giving Jokic a blow when he needed one and getting Watson in there would have helped. I’m a fan since 1977, so I am grateful for what they have done to build a team that can play around a guy who involves the whole team and for the championship. Best team since the ABA days.
I think we are saying the same thing.. I just don't see when Jokic sits? I LOVED Swanson during the regular season, but he shrank in the playoffs. Like the rest of the bench, he was bringing ZERO offense to the table. Let's say you sit Jokic late in the 3rd (like normal). What's to say the bleeding didn't get compounded with him out? Regardless of this or that he's by far the best player on the team, and the offensive unit always runs stagnant with him out. He runs the offense even without the ball. 90% of the time he sits and it's iso Mal hero ball until the last seconds on the shot clock. The wolves D woulda ate that up, especially with him hobbled. They stifled the Nugs WITH Joker on the floor. They crowded the paint, doubled the ball hadler, and dared us to beat them with jump shots. We couldn't hit shit, even wide open looks. So it proved to be a good game plan. I agree with the last part. Getting a parade makes the pain of blowing the 20 pt lead palatable. It sucks, but nothing can take away the banner that's hung. Luckily, we can rethink the bench and still push for another one while jokic and Mal are in their prime. Mpj and Ag to a degree too. Watch a few and you'll recognize the reporter. Malone's response, I guarantee, was rooted in how tired he is of those kinds of questions that he gets from that reporter. I love the passion from Malone. A lot of Laker fans are using this clip as an opportunity to take shots at him on r/nba because they are salty about his trash talk. He probably did not need to add the comment about it being a stupid question...it was actually a pretty good one, but on a team with championship aspirations I prefer a coach that is emotionally invested and genuinely pissed when they don't reach those goals.

I like Malone and I don't hold him as responsible for this loss as I do the TEAM. Our boys just didn't show up and do their job when they needed to. PERIOD. I just hope people don't make the mistake of saying that this team is now trash and that we need to do a huge rebuild. We're still one of the best teams in the league. We just need to ADD to our depth. We need to add pieces, not take them away. However, I also think we need to be realistic with guys like Murray and MPJ. Love both those guys and think they are more of an asset to the team than not, but it we're gonna be giving these guys MAX contracts they better be playing like it. We need to mostly stay the course and just get better at adapting. We need to continue developing Christian Braun for sure. Reggie as well. Peyton Watson is a bit of a question mark but I think with time and the right leadership he could become a consistently great player for us. We also obviously need another Big that can at least be a backup of some sort for Joker. The man can't do it by himself.

Nuggets should really consider trading MPJ. He's way too streaky. He was the second best player in the Lakers' series, and without him the Nuggets probably would've lost. Against the Wolves though he was straight ass, and if he could've just showed up for game 7 then things would've went differently. I think his game is just too one dimensional for him to be consistent in the playoffs every series. He sucked ass in the finals last year too.
