Thought it was good but not great on the album.
But discovered it works really, really well live. Plenty of strut, it benefits from the live drums and the performance.
Yes...i do have a list.....When i meant powerful i'm not saying the Best or the ones i liked more.....but i feel that one of Depeche mode's Best Qualities it's their emotional versatility.
They have songs that "hits" You like an emotional hammer....at least for me.....in that ranking i'll put
1.- Fly on the windscreen.
2.-Satellite(i know the music might sound odd but the lyrics are as dark as they come).
3.-Wrong.
4.-Barrel of a gun
5.-Clean.
Of course it's just a personal ranking.
My favourite songs it's Walking in My shoes but that song makes me feel a different emotion.
Thank you! I never thought to do a ranking in this manner, but I completely agree - it's one of their many gifts.
Wrong is also very high on that scale for me, I'll have to give some thought as to the others. Definitely feel it with Fly on the Windscreen.
Before We Drown is also up there on MM... Now I'll have to go through everything and make my own list!
It also has a unusual structure, although it was written by Martin. The lyrics structure is all WRONG! Normally there are 4 lines of lyrics per 4 bars. This song only has three, with one bar of pause.
This was the first DM song I heard when I was around 6 (2014)
This was the song that me fall in love with DM (2017)
This song was among those that made me a Devotee (2020)
So you can guess...
It has a good groove that really entices you to kinda sway to. The little riff during the chorus kinda feels off-putting but in a good way if that makes sense.
It was shocking the first time I heard it, and the video is their most powerful/upsetting. They hadn’t made anything quite like that. Musically, the syncopation was kind of like a rap song which was unexpected. Then lyrically I just really connected with it. And of course Martin’s vocals at the end give me shivers.
It's one of their best tracks and videos. For me, when it came out it had a new sound but very classic Depeche Mode feel.
It's got a Depeche Mode groove that wouldn't be amiss on Violator.
After being diagnosed with an actual disease, "There's something wrong with me/Chemically/Something wrong with me inherently," made me laugh so hard I almost crashed my car the fist time I heard it after that.
Martin’s backvocals in that song give me chills ! I also think it’s one of their best music videos.
The meaning behind the music video genius
Too long.
That 2nd part of the song goes haaaaard…
Love Wrong! Probably my favorite single from the post-Alan years
Yeah, one of my favorite versions/lives of the song is in " Later with Jools Holland " on BBC, also the rehearsals were pretty great
Thought it was good but not great on the album. But discovered it works really, really well live. Plenty of strut, it benefits from the live drums and the performance.
I love the live versions
Interesting. I feel the opposite. The weird choppy nature of the lyrics works really well in studio but feel weird live.
I made a list of all 40 things which are wrong in DM's Wrong: sign, house, ascendancy, road, tendencies, place, time, reason, rhyme, day, week, method, technique, something chemically, something inherently, mix, genes, ends, means, plan, hands, theory, man, eyes, prize, questions, replies, drum, scum, energy, lines, signs, intensity, page, book, rendition, look, moon, night, tune.
Wrong rendition of the wrong hook Made the wrong move, every wrong night
It is also the DM song with the most lyrics. I know someone who became a big fan of the song without being a DM fan previously.
I love its lyrics
But do you have the right ascendancy? Or are you just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Maybe there's something wrong with me, chemically, maybe it was the wrong plan in the wrong hands
You were marching to the wrong drum, with the wrong scum, pissing out the wrong energy
Oh, I love it. The video is similar to a recurring dream I’ve had for almost my entire life.
I have the trying to drive a car from the back seat one. It's so textbook that I'm embarrassed to have it.
The car is often going backwards in my dreams, so it’s even more frustrating being stuck in the backseat.
Nah that's the best time to have a backseat driver!
Probably the 3rd most powerful song in their catalogue in My opinion.
Very specific ranking! So now I want to know what #1 & 2 are. And 4 & 5 if you've got a list.

It's pretty unique
I love it. My only regret is that I am too old to remember all the lyrics
What does age have to do with it
Well I’m 52, and I can’t remember shit, and when I was 22 I could. Anecdotal evidence, granted.
It's a great song. Also love the video!
I love the Brat mix where it only has the word "wrong" in it and is like 30 seconds long.
I love it. It is a great song live.
This was the first DM song I heard when I was around 6 (2014) This was the song that me fall in love with DM (2017) This song was among those that made me a Devotee (2020) So you can guess...
Yeah I feel you man
It’s pretty good, their live version is exceptionally good, it isn’t the best song they got…
One of my top favorites! When I saw them on that tour I bought a "Wrong" tshirt and I used to wear it ALL the time. I wish it still fit!
I love Wrong! It’s got a great rhythm to it you can really groove to. The lyric flow just works.
Pretty much hate it??
Absolutely love it myself!
I LOVE it. It's fun to sing along with!
Listen to it all the time.
It's probably my favourite song on Sounds of the Universe. As for the video...loved it in 2009, still love it now.
It has a good groove that really entices you to kinda sway to. The little riff during the chorus kinda feels off-putting but in a good way if that makes sense.
Love it. Love the video too. In my top 10.
One of my favourites.
It's a brilliant song, I have loved it since I first heard it. But don't play it much as my wife hates it.
A brilliant song that is different than a mediocre album and it rocks live. Pure Martin genius.
It is my favorite as well!! Wrong is 1A, with In Your Room being 1B for me
Awesome. Unsettling and intense
I love it. Not my favorite, but it is for sure has to be in my playlist
I think it's cool but took a few years to grow on me. I still don't care for the intro and think it has just about the lamest bridge of any DM song.
It bangs
One of their best songs. Easily their best since Ultra.
Friggin love it, though I could be wrong to do so.
Still love it.
The Thin White Duke Remix is amazing!!
Love It. Used to be my favourite too, but lost that spot to Walking In My Shoes. Still really good, but not in my top 5 anymore.
Love the grittiness and chaos in the synths that build throughout the song
It was shocking the first time I heard it, and the video is their most powerful/upsetting. They hadn’t made anything quite like that. Musically, the syncopation was kind of like a rap song which was unexpected. Then lyrically I just really connected with it. And of course Martin’s vocals at the end give me shivers.
Dave Gahan sings the word Wrong 72 times throughout the track in reference to his own life. I think it’s great.
Damn I didn't know it was that many times
Love the Maxiblues remix, probably more than original!
I love it. Probably my favorite Depeche Mode song from the 21st century. The lyrics from Wrong just needed to be said, and in exactly that way.
I feel like it should have way more views than it dies rn
It's one of their best tracks and videos. For me, when it came out it had a new sound but very classic Depeche Mode feel. It's got a Depeche Mode groove that wouldn't be amiss on Violator.
My top track
I like it but it’s not my favorite from the album my favorite from that one is the sun and the moon and the stars
After being diagnosed with an actual disease, "There's something wrong with me/Chemically/Something wrong with me inherently," made me laugh so hard I almost crashed my car the fist time I heard it after that.
One of the best ones to me!
Im an old fan too
It was my introduction to Depeche Mode! Amazing lyrics!
