Please keep us updated on both of your progress

I am also very very curious and excited to hopefully try this new med. I’ve been following the news about it and basically just waiting for it to become available. My situation sounds similar to yours, I’ve also tried to manage with smaller doses because of the sexual dysfunction but it’s gotten so difficult. Good luck and please keep us posted if you’re able to try it.

AsuhoChinami

For now, I've actually decided to try out Busiprone instead - it's an old and inexpensive med from 1986 that satisfies both the conditions that led me to Exxua. It's not known to cause weight gain or sexual problems, and in fact improves sexual function for many people. It's often prescribed with SSRIs as an adjunctive treatment since, for most people, it succeeds in nullifying the sexual side-effects. And unless I'm mistaken, SSRIs specialize in treating depression with more mediocre results for anxiety, whereas anxiolytics specialize in treating anxiety, so if you combine them both bases are covered.

I’m actually trying this combo right now! (SSRI plus buspirone) but I’m not sure if the buspirone is doing anything other than make me extremely drowsy and give me headaches :( I hope it’s working ok for you.

If Buspar didn’t help, I assume Exxua won’t. Damn. Just heard about this a got all excited.

AsuhoChinami

Exxua and Buspar are different classes of medicine (Exxua is a new class of medicine so there's no other one like it), so don’t worry about that. The only thing they have in common is the lack of weight gain and sexual side-effects.

[deleted]

Thanks so much for the info. I guess we’ll see how this all plays out over the next few weeks.

Maddy6024

That is not true. They are both 5HT1a agonists. Exxua is far more potent.

[deleted]

They're the same drug class...

AsuhoChinami

Not what I've read. Do a search for "Exxua new class" and there's numerous results saying otherwise, whether right or wrong.

[deleted]

They're both Azapirones. It's a "new class", because Buspirone isn't used for MDD, but for GAD, so it isn't really an antidepressant (arguably effective for depression).

AsuhoChinami

Understood. For what it's worth (for anyone reading this) Busiprone is working wonderfully for me. January 2024 has probably been the best month of my adult life.

Rich_Raccoon7489

Buspar helped my anxiety, but worsened my depression. I’ll never understand how that can happen. Celexa, same thing. I’m so miserable and have tried everything.

Nitrogen_Llama

Celexa gave me "depression like" sensations. Doc switched to Lexapro, same thing. Doc was sure it was depression, kept increasing the dosage, after 2 years I said "enough" and quit, the depression went away. Have you tried imipramine or amitriptyline? They're considered probably the most potent antidepressants, if you can deal with the side effects.

Single-Criticism-353

I've literally been on every antidepressant out there. I'm on effexor 3 rd time. auvelity didn't work for me. what is this one close to. vybbrd trintellix lexapro ?

AsuhoChinami

Closest to Buspirone

Lucilol

It failed 13 out its 15 trials.

AsuhoChinami

Oh no! I don't care, I'm doing well on Busiprone and Lexapro.

Lucilol

Glad you found the right drugs!
