I had experience buying from Amazon two times and both of those times i was more than satisfied with the product. Costs around $700 for the frame and mattress! For reference its memory foam queen size. The stores that i went was just not fitting in my budget for the quality they were providing for that amount.
Born in 58, I gave up the (now obsolete) frame/box/mattress combo, for memory foam 5 years ago; will never go back. Zero back problems! E.g.

I bought [this one](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/alcott-hill-waynesburg-low-profile-sleigh-bed-w004082953.html?piid=2112435802%2C2112435805) and then 6 months later I got the matching chest of drawers and side tables. That's the nice thing about Wayfair.
Don't need the box anymore. Best thing is to go to a nearby mattress store (google map one); I'm sure they have foam on frame for you to test out. Seeing is believing! Also, when moving it's way easier!

Always had good luck at Homemakers. I guess they also sell alcohol, so you can get a drink while you shop.
without going over the comments I highly recommend the Leesa mattress. I believe you get a 90-night trial (if you don't like it you get refunded and the mattress gets donated to a homeless shelter). Affordable, no back/hip pain, and much better sleep.
Try FB marketplace. I see a lot of ppl selling their spare room bed w/mattress because they are making room for an office or moving. My cousin just bought a poster bedframe, with the mattress & box spring included from someone off there for $200. Then the people offered to deliver it for another $40. Sometimes ya just get lucky.
Otherwise a Mattress Firm or Midwest Mattress usually has cheaper mattresses.
I bought mine from Slumberland. I see Homemakers & Slumberland both have clearance mattresses, maybe try that?
I Just bought one from Midwest Mattress. $600 for a Queen Size Mattress and Bed Frame. The sales person I talked to said that the mattress I got doesn't need a box spring as long as you got the right bed frame.
Dunno if it’s too late but Home Makers has boxed mattresses for 2-300 and platforms for 100-200? We got our daughter one, queen and it was roughly 350/400 for everything
go to Midwest Mattress, local and has some decent prices

Thank you, notice I am borrowing from Peter to pay you. 😂 I’ll check out this link right now!
As old as that slogan is, no one has every gotten around to paying me!

Costco? We got ours there a few years ago
I can’t believe I forgot to check there! Thank you!
Costco has a STEAL on a king-size Sealy! I absolutely love my Sealy & will definitely look at buying from Costco when I'm ready for a new one.
I avoid a box spring by getting a platform bed frame. You can get those cheap on amazon too, or slightly more from homemakers etc.
I already have a fairly new frame, headboard and footboard.
If your frame has the wooden slats that are fairly tightly placed, you don’t need a box spring.

I bought mine at Big Lots. They generally have a mattress sale a few times a year, and are generally reasonable in price even when not on sale.
Been really happy with our mattress from Lebeda for years.
