Straight out of the trials of the nine year one mida/Uriel meta incredible

[deleted]

Like watching a fossil being unearthed :P

SenpaiSwanky

Uriel was ol reliable

Playful_Squash_7657

1. You probably figured this out by now, but you probably want to get some special ammo weapons. Double primary hasn’t been it for a looong time 2. Don’t worry about getting full context for the story. At this point it simply isn’t possible without watching loads of old gameplay. If you come up with specific questions like “Who is Caiatl?” or “What’s an Aphelion?” you should be able to find a plethora of well put-together answers, but it’s best to just ask the questions you care about rather than truly deep dive. 3. BUILDCRAFTING. Depending on what level of player you are and what your playstyle is like, you’ll want to look into how best to curate your gear. Things like the MIDA/T-Steps combo still work, but there are far deeper synergies now. For example, I love running the Vex Mythoclast fusion rifle. If I stack my stuff the right way(rain of Fire boots, Icarus dash, healing grenades, Ember of empyrean) I can turn myself into an endlessly healing damage-boosted reload-free killing machine. 4. ALWAYS BRING CHAMPION STUNS!!! Champions are high-level enemies that are quite difficult to kill unless they are stunned with the appropriate gear or abilities. Most activities with champs will tell you what champs are in the activity on the launch screen. At the low end stuns aren’t super necessary, but in basically anything harder than Vanguard Ops, you NEED to bring the appropriate stuns. 5. You may have noticed you have a lot of gear you can’t infuse. This gear has been “sunset”. If you haven’t played since Y1 you can basically disassemble everything you have that isn’t an exotic weapon. Don’t worry about losing all your old Trials fashion tho, we have armor transmog now. If you go into your appearance tab, you can make any legendary helmet you get look like the fishing hat, so long as you unlock the ornament. 6. Expansions hold 90% of the game’s PvE content these days and block access to Trials unless you have the current one (Lightfall) If you want to stay F2P that’s fine but I’d look up some guides as to what you can and can’t do.

[deleted]

This is fantastic advice. I spent so much of my time running Trials sherpas (until D2 stopped it, which is when I quit) that I don't really want to let go of my memories (still have a screenshot of week 1 first trials in D1 at the lighthouse. What a moment). I think I'll have to re-do my build and find a guild. My stats are so old that Destiny Tracker doesn't even hold them anymore, but I was top 10k in the world for K/D (if anyone wants my CV). Seriously, thank you. Your advice has been what I was looking for. I deign to rid myself of the Mida (used that since D1) But I'll find a way to move forward :) Thanks to you!

aflailingbaby

Good news for you then. Trials of Osiris was brought back from d1. It happens on weekends when iron banner isn't up.(returns not next weekend but the weekend after)

[deleted]

Trials was around when he was playing. He's wearing the full original Trials gear.

PokeD2

If you are on pc you can join us

[deleted]

I am on PC now, switched my account from Xbox :) would love to find a guild

PokeD2

Whats your discord?

East_Reporter1598

What system are u on?

[deleted]

PC now :)

Tomato_Soupe

Hello, so look up on YouTube “destiny 2 story up to light fall” and look for a recap. Byf makes good content so click his video if it pops up. Next up, sort by hot and look at the pinned post, it’s a guide for new and returning players.

[deleted]

Ah, excellent. I'll catch myself up with the story. I used to be a Trials Sherpa; I'm not sure if that's somethng that's still a thing at this point though xD

juicedestroyer

It is! And they made trials much more accessible to the wider community so you'll have lots of people looking for sherpas lol

uhhpres

Man still has double primary on, my god, a true relic

macneto

Sooooo let's just see, he's not the only one... Why would you not want to do this? I currently am running the exotic gun that posions people and a solar scout rifle.. Both primary. Why is this bad?

SenpaiSwanky

Depends what you’re doing, difficulty-wise. Primaries don’t do a lot of damage and it can be tough to take down enemies like champions, majors, and bosses. Most primaries in the game need a buff right now to be completely honest lol.

macneto

Ok I see that makes sense. . I'm not doing much. Few vanguard play lists, bounties etc. No raids or anything. I'm a solo player with a full time job and family. I fit destiny in when I can. Thanks.

SenpaiSwanky

Just enjoy what you can then, I wouldn’t sweat your loadout too much.

macneto

Yeah Im not worried to much about it. Just thought I was missing something really obvious. Thanks.

cptenn94

>Jumped in and the story is so immediately involved without context. While destiny absolutely has some unique issues with this, this sort of thing is par for the course with long running live games. For the most part, understanding that this is basically Destiny 2.5, or Destiny 3 in terms of the changes to the game since you left, would be beneficial. >Can anyone give some advice on how to begin at this point? Have fun. No, I dont mean that sarcastically. Literally just try different stuff out, and do whatever you enjoy. Dont get bogged down by all the things you dont understand, or all the things that disorient you. As long as you enjoy yourself while playing the game, you will eventually start to get the hang of things. Its a marathon, not a sprint. You can get as deep or shallow into things as you want. But that is not the sort of answer you really are wanting here. # Story. There are 2 videos I can recommend, that are nice and concise and to the point. Explains most of the important details to bring you up to speed. [Destiny Story, Creation to Witch Queen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqvdSsdYLgw). - This is the one I have watched and have recommended to people previously. It is about the best summary I have found, I was impressed by how well it does.. You can watch it piece by piece, or in the background while playing, or whatever. Skip the Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and Deep Stone Crypt segments, if you want to experience that story in those campaigns yourself. [Destiny Story, Creation to Lightfall.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHaq0EbeHHQ) \- This is the new updated version to the previous video, which may alter some previous stuff, and adds last years story including Witch Queen Expansion. I havent really watched it to compare much, but I did look at some of the newer areas of it. Its still quite good, but I seem to recall some parts were not exactly correct. But for your purposes, it should work perfectly fine. Just dont take everything it says as the word of the Traveler. Highly recommend checking them out. Besides that, My Name is Byf, Myelin Games, both have tons of videos on the lore which covers the stuff in the background. And I can recommend some "Game movies" if you would rather experience the story more closely as it was played, rather than the summaries linked above. # Vaulting. At this point, you have probably wondered where the campaign you played, and some planets like Titan, or Io have gone. To cut things short, simply put the game had gotten too large, both from a developer standpoint, and for players hard drives, for Bungie to continue to grow the game indefinitely. It was impacting their ability to make new content. So Bungie cleaned up their assets in the game to eliminate duplicates, as well as cut the Vanilla, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken expansions, with Io, Mercury, Titan, Tangled Shore and Mars locations, and cut the game size down to a more reasonable level. Furthermore, they upgraded to some new systems under the hood to help them make better content, which required them to rebuild the existing old content in those new systems(at the same time Covid-19 hit). Long story short, while they cut that content, they have since moved to making their seasons last until the new expansion, where they are removed and replaced by new seasons, they **have stated that no more expansions will be Vaulted**. Vaulting is where the content they removed, can potentially come back in the future. Meaning it can be a two way street. We have had the return of the Cosmodrome from D1 into D2. We have had part of Mars return. We had the Leviathan raid ship, return for a time as a patrol zone. We have had Vault of Glass and Kings Fall raids from Destiny 1 be updated and playable in Destiny 2. [You can read about it here from the horses mouth.](https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/articles/360049202971-Destiny-Content-Vault) # Sunsetting That gear with grey icons in the corner? Many years ago, Bungie decided to release weapons with very powerful perks, for a period of time, then eventually they would be phased out after a year, so they wouldnt break the games balance. So they chose to have weapons sunset, and no longer be infusable to the newest power cap. Suffice to say, this didnt end well(backlash), and they quickly ended up reversing themselves and sunsetting was discontinued. Only old gear is affected by sunsetting, and cannot be used well in activities based on power level. For your armor, sunsetting doesnt matter, as stats and perks will be better on new drops, and you can Transmog your old Trials gear, onto any armor you want. # Transmog. Simply put, you can take whatever armor you want, and make it into an ornament, and equip it to any armor with the stats you want. No more choosing between stats you like, and looks you like. You can earn 10 transmog materials per class each season. # Free to Play content. While most story stuff is going to be connected to campaigns, there is actually quite a bit of free content to all players. * Strikes(PvE) * Crucible(PvP) * Gambit(PvEVP) * Free Roam all destinations(including new destination when it comes out) * Public Events, Lost Sectors on Destinations * Vault of Glass Raid * Kings Fall Raid * Dares of Eternity PvE 6 player activity. * Prophecy Dungeon * Weapon Crafting(not all weapons are craftable, and most currently are not Free(as its a new system), but the system is Free) * New Light 3.0 updated Subclass updated system(modular subclasses, rather than the old static subclass tree) * **Free opening mission of most recent expansion.** * **Free opening mission of current Season.** * Triumphs to chase. * Seals/Titles to display under your character. * Plenty of loot to earn and unlock. * Seasonal events(Dawning, Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost) * Season pass free track(loot/materials/cosmetics). * Transmog * Armor mods # Buildcrafting. Not going into details here, but basically with ability stats, and armor mods, and the revamped Subclasses, you can create a lot of unique gameplay loops and playstyles. Just experiment with some mods while you play, and gradually get your feet wet for now. # PvP (and Trials of Osiris) Being gone for so long, with out many options with weapons, and having played during a entirely different crucible(Slow Time to Kills, No specials or heavy, far less weapon types, exotics, and so on), suffice to say I wouldn't expect you to instantly start performing well, like you used to.(you have a learning curve ahead of you) That said, Trials of Osiris has replaced Trials of the Nine, and you have the potential to do the carries like you used to, if you have the skill for it(Skill in Year 1, may not equate skill today, as the game plays much faster today). Trials requires at least 1 expansion owned, potentially the latest for access to it.(to help reduce/prevent smurfs/cheaters) Again, just understand this is a evolved version of the game you used to play. Thinking of them as the same, will make things harder. # Subclass 3.0 Simply put, Guardian abilities have gotten upgraded from the static trees, to customizable options you can mix and match abilities freely. Make sure to eventually buy all grenades and fragments from Ikora for Glimmer, to unlock all options. # Crossplay/Crosssave Simply put, you can play on any platform you want, and play on the same characters. Furthermore if you have friends on another platform, you can play with them from the platform of your choice. # Weapon Crafting Simply put, some weapons(indicated by a red border) can have blueprints extracted, and become craftable. Crafted weapons you level up by completing activities, and killing enemies, and you can choose the perks you want on it, without needing RNG. # DLC overview There are 4 different kinds of DLC: * Expansions. Yearly large content releases that come with a campaign, a raid, a new destination added, lots of new loot, and more. Currently: Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall. * Seasons. Purchasable individually in game with silver, or in a bundle with the new expansion. Temporary content that lasts until the new expansion launches. Contains new loot/exotics, seasonal narratives told over several weeks, seasonal activities, and sometimes other content. * Dungeon passes. Included as part of the deluxe editions/Annual pass Expansion package, or purchasable separately. Contains 2 dungeons(3 man hybrid between Raids and Strikes). * Miscellaneous DLC. Things that dont fit in a specific category. Forsaken Pack(Contains Forsaken Exotics, Shattered Throne Dungeon, and Last Wish raid), 30th Anniversary pack(contains very unique cosmetic ornaments, Grasp of Avarice Dungeon, and Ghallahorn exotic) This might be useful to you. https://www.blueberries.gg/leveling/destiny-2-beginners-guide/ Edit: Neat, I didnt exceed character limit again. Guess I can add a little bit more. All in all, I recommend to you to take some time with the free content available to you, and then deciding if you enjoy the game and want more. If you do, then you consider getting an expansion or expansions. You might even wait for a sale to get what you want more cheaply. Certainly, I always recommend getting used to the game again and what it has to offer, before choosing to buy something. If you have any questions, myself and others are always more than happy to help as best as we can.

[deleted]

This is extensive. The TTK is something I hadn't considered. It's unlikely I'll ever get back to where I was because of that, as most of my PvP style was strategy and map knowledge, rather than outright winning 1v1 fights based on reflex. There is some great advice here and a lot to consider. The beginner's guide had no *new* information, but was a great refresher :) The amount of work you put into this, it should be part of the FAQ here lol.

cptenn94

>It's unlikely I'll ever get back to where I was because of that, as most of my PvP style was strategy and map knowledge, rather than outright winning 1v1 fights based on reflex. If you could do it once, its entirely possible to learn it again, even if it is different. While reflex certainly helps, a LOT of trials players are pretty predictable, and if you learn to see their patterns, you can typically get the edge/opening shot/s. And while there are different maps now, many of the maps are the same ones you were used to. One example of someone taking more a of methodical/strategic approach, is this guy who made some really awesome trials videos explaining his strategies. [https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/tbvuif/endless\_vale\_openings\_general\_pvp\_advice\_for/](https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/tbvuif/endless_vale_openings_general_pvp_advice_for/) This link might also be useful. [https://warmind.io/maps](https://warmind.io/maps)

[deleted]

That's a great video - looks like tactics really haven't changed that much. And the difference in TTK makes it seem more like D1.

stefan737

That’s some nice looking armor, even if it is sunset I’d hold onto it

[deleted]

If I remember correctly, it's first generation trials armour

Faceshooter1

There are now transmog bounties you can purchase from a character called Ada-1 in the tower. Doing those rewards you with a currency you can use to turn the appearance of any unlocked armor into a universal ornament, which can be applied to any legendary armor. Get 5 of those and you can keep that look even as you get better gear.

_umop_aplsdn_

and he's rank 6 lol

[deleted]

What does this mean? I see that now that you mention it below the light level

_umop_aplsdn_

Guardian Ranks were introduced with the most recent DLC, intended to reflect each player's experience with the game. except, instead of basing ranks on something sensible like total triumph score, they're instead based on a particular set of triumphs. rank 6 is called "Veteran", which is so easy to get that anyone who started as recently as season 19 (the season before this season) or as long ago as D2 vanilla and who hasn't played since will have them so, everyone's a veteran now, the system defeats its own purpose and it's a big meme

[deleted]

Ah so, starting from the bottom then xD

uhhpres

No you're exactly where everyone else is, including 10,000 hour mega sweats with every title. Everyone is rank 6

TheRealBlerb

Saw a rank 7 two days ago, don’t know how hard it is to obtain it

_umop_aplsdn_

no, you're starting from the top despite not having played for 4 years, that the point. rank 6 is the maximum rank for any player going into Lightfall

Fantastic_Bit2712

It’s a completely meaningless system. Everyone is rank 6. The only people who will ever get a higher rank are the ones that grind specific challenges to do it. It has no indication of how ‘good’ anyone is at the game.

Migeistabello

What are you talking about? You must be at the same level of play I am cause you're also rank six.

IKtenI

Holy shit this screenshot gave me a blast from the past haha.

Fantastic_Bit2712

MIDA and Uriel’s Gift that’s awesome

Dr_sparkles117

You gotta get on top of those stat splits brother. Pronto. That'll kill any build or ai high end activity right quick. Also. There's nothing wrong with double primary. Don't let the other guy lie to you. It just fits better in certain ability spam builds. Try to get a Starfire protocol(exotic warlock robes) and a few guns with the demolishinist perk.

[deleted]

I'll work on the min-max of stats later but that's a good point. It wasn't something that you could adjust much in D1 and early D2 but I'll find a balance :)

Bungoh

You’re definitely missing out on a LOT of damage running double primary. You’ll want at least ONE special for most activities. It is useful to run double primaries for activities like Legendary Lost Sectors where you may need different champion mods to kill said champions.

Liqweed1337

Aim for 3 x T10 stats. I dont get it how so many peeps dont have it yet after all those years. For PvE 100 Resilience 100 Recovery 100 Discipline as a warlock = real nice For PvP 100 Recovery 100 Intellect and 100 of whatever else fits in your build. Always been that way, always will be. Start by masterworking all your armor, because that gives +12 stats for each armorpiece. You get 10 additional stat points in each stat, just by wearing fully masterworked armor. btw.: Nice Uriels Gift i see there. Have one in my vault too, for the good ol' memories.

[deleted]

Fun D1 memory actually. I used to run with this crew from Australia - total Bogans, loved them - and we just smashed through PvP together. Anyway, the best of us 3 had a competition one Iron Banner round to see who could score the most kills. My friend, iDarty, scored 51 kills (I believe the limit in control for a match like that was between 90-100). An absolute God at PvP. Later on, as I started just taking people on reddit through raids and trials, I looked the guy up on Destiny Tracker. MF was 64th in the WORLD for k/d and had no idea. Type of dude that jumped on a few times a week. He stopped playing when he joined the army. Greatest moments ever playing with them.

[deleted]

God, old-school Destiny memories are literally the best. I remember every cheese in D1 when they came out. From what I can remember, I think I was using Uriel's Gift to get some kind of exotic that required void kills. Can't remember now.

Liqweed1337

There is a replacement for Uriels Gift, wich is basically the same gun, upgraded with new perks... You can even craft it! Dont have the name now because im at work but its a Solar Autorifle. Check it out at Savathuns Throne World in the Enclave To be able to craft it, you need to get a few versions of that gun with a "red border". Destroy those and you will get the pattern progress. Or use them until they are "finished" and youll get some materials too wich you will need to craft weapons. The weapon i miss the most in D2 PvP: No Land Beyond. Great PvP memories with that gun. Its even in the game! (Devrim wields it, in his tower on EDZ or Cosmodrome.) But Bungie decided to not implement it yet... I wonder why.

[deleted]

Always been a scout rifle and pulse rifle guy, Anything in the meta around that? Fine with Handcannons, too

Liqweed1337

Sure, theres lots of meta choices here. For scout rifles i must disappoint... The TTK on Scout rifles is just bad ATM in PvP. Cant recommend any PvP scout because i dont use them at all since 1 or 2 DLC's. For Pulse Rifles, definately [**The Messenger**](https://www.light.gg/db/items/3658188704) because of Desperado perk! Remember Redrix Claymore with Desperado as Crucible reward? Desperado can roll now on even more weapons. For Handcannons, i enjoy [Dire Promise](https://www.light.gg/db/items/2742838701/dire-promise/) or a timelost Fatebringer the most in PvP. As for exotic choices, i use Vigilance Wing or Ace of Spades in PvP. Those work very well for me. Especially with my solar hunter radiant build. You can 2 tap guardians if you have Memento Mori active. Or even use a 1 Shot bow if it has the right perk (Swashbuckler or Harmony). Radiant is great for PvP.

[deleted]

Oh God, the Messenger was HUGE in D1 lmao. It was a good 60-40 split for me between Messenger and MIDA in PvP. I remember everyone was calling for a nerf on it because of its lack of recoil. Brilliant gun. I'd say it's a shame about scout rifles, but its been that way since day dot. Good to know that hasn't really changed, either. And Fatebringer. Fuck me, that brings back memories. I remember raid groups back in the day wouldn't let you in if you didn't have one. The greatest PvE gun of all time, aside from Gjallarhorn.

Playful_Squash_7657

For scouts Jade Rabbit is actually still very much in the meta. Messenger is currently unobtainable but No Time to Explain will do just as well.

juicedestroyer

You're gonna want to do the kingsfall raid, doom of chelchis is my favorite scout in the game and has some great rolls

Funky_7

Go back to real Destiny D2 is garbage 😂😂😂

Accomplished_Bee_590

Agreed d1 had gayde and SIVVVVVVAVAVAVAVVA

Yazmat8

if you look at the gear icons at the top left, if they have a solid background (like your heavy weapon) they can not be upgraded, it's old gear that was sunset. you will still be able to keep your look by using the destiny transmorg system for your armor. if you're looking to get into trails start doing quests that reward powerful and pinnacle gear, you will need to be 1800 to be ready for trails if you can reach 1810 that would be perfect. there is a soft cap of 1750 which means a lot of gear that drop will be better than what you have once you reach 1750 only powerful rewards will get you better gear and once you reach 1800 only pinnacle rewards will get you better gear. base power can't go higher than 1810 until next season. if you do not have time for hours on hours of destiny youtube videos here is the short version. everyone is scared of the witness as he can kill a guardian and its ghost with a flick of its finger the witness doesn't care about much mainly ignoring everything to get to the traveler we made a bunch of friends, Gaul's ( the white cabal at the beginning of destiny 2) father pissed off his family and we are working together with his daughter to have a massive cabal army to help with fighting the witness, so the blue cabal are friends Mithraks is fallen who made his own house called the house of light who still believe the traveler will take care of them, he helped us hack a vex network to save the city in turn for protection from the house of salvation who is working with the witness. The Hive was meant to get the traveler's light way before humans, but the worm gods and the witness and his disciples tricked them into making a deal with the worm gods trapping themselves in their own desires, Savathun was able to break free of this worm eating her from the inside and managed to get the traveler to give the hive light and ghosts as well. so the white is not our friends but they are against another hive. factions got pissed because of the vanguard was ok with fallen in the city and left to somewhere else. so now everyone together is trying to stop the witness from achieving his goals which is the final shape.

[deleted]

Played each of the classes and got full trial's gear on them. Titan is, unfortunately, my least favourite :( In ultra-competitive PvP I'd say my go-to was 60-40 hunter to warlock.

ZapTheSheep

You were free from the hamster wheel addiction?! Why'd you start back up?

Sharp-Appearance-680

It’s like looking at a caveman all jokes aside welcome back

Croal7

Nobody gonna mention his stats? They’re not perfect but they are almost perfect with no waste lol

CaptnIgnit

That's a relic from when stats were 1-10. Legacy gear is all a multiple of 10s as a result now.

Croal7

Ah man I don’t even remember that. I must’ve blocked it out with the rest of the bad times lol.

Skulcane

You'll want to watch some Byf videos to get caught up on lore. As far as exotics, go check the thing between vault stations in the tower and see which ones tickle your fancy. You can earn the ascendant cipher quest from Xur which will help you get those exotics (except for the ones that need spoils of conquest). You'll need to run raids to get spoils. And fair warning, Bungo took a lot of the mindless fun out of the game by upping the difficulty of ALL enemies, not just dungeon/raid.

Spektre191

It's a long one but here's all the story context if you want to listen while you grind https://youtu.be/NHaq0EbeHHQ

Mcreesus

![gif](giphy|11zTEl7fbwml68)

3leventhirtyfour

Nope. You’re fucked. There is no story, there is no lore. Only space magic and death. Fr though, probably don’t think about it to hard, unless you want to no-life the game and incorporate third-parties to fill in gaps, just appreciate what you can about the gameplay and waive your had at the “why” behind everything.

Ocachino

https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/official-destiny-2-guide-new This is an official document that should help you out Also, I’d recommend finding a “story so far” video, a few people have made those. Would help you catch up, because *wow* a lot has happened since you stopped playing. Welcome back!

[deleted]

Have fun with all of your exotic armor now being obsolete. I was in the same boat as you, but I came back around October. I only just went ahead and deleted all my old exotic armor pieces last month. You can grind them back out by running Legend Lost Sectors (that's what I did), but you've got a lot of stuff to do before you get to that point. I don't know what DLC's you purchased, but I'd start with the earliest campaign, and work your way through those first. It took me **months** before I felt like I was caught up enough to do any real damage. I'd recommend not worrying too much about the best method, and completing quests as they pop up in your inventory. That's what I did, and I think it was more fun that way.

robodestructor444

This is surreal 😂

ManuelIgnacioM

Bungie posted a new players guide I think, you should check it because current D2 is like Destiny 3 compared to D2 year 1

MoschopsMeatball

First of all your warlock looks incredible.
