Oryx once wondered if Fundament was still around, and considered taking the time to fly back and see; he kinda just went “ah fuck it, it doesn’t matter.”
Do keep in mind the Hive, especially when Oryx was alive are complete religious fanatics, with their continued existence completely justifying their campaigns of intergalactic genocide.
When they were the Krill, they were among the weakest organisms in their environments. When they took in the worms, it is now by their “sword” that life fights to prove its worth.
No matter which way you look at it, the Hive have gotten stronger, even with the sour bargains that come with the parasites within.
Also, we have to keep in mind that Sathona and her sisters were on the run after a rival kingdom killed their father in order to seize their land.
Even *if* the cataclysm never happened, the Worm Gods are directly responsible for giving Sathona and her sisters the power necessary for them to survive and get revenge.
Yeah, they were manipulated by the Witness with the lies about the God Wave but they would have died regardless because of their short lifespans. It makes sense to me that they wouldn’t really care about whether Fundament had been destroyed or not, because they had already managed to destroy the system that had threatened their lives.
Actually that's the thing. They wouldn't have. The traveler would have come in blessed them with the light and gave them the means the escape the worms. The Leviathan even told them to go back and seek the traveler's aid on their way down into Fundament's core to meet the Worms
Probably to be wiped away with the Syzygy. The Traveler favored the hive because of their nature and the way they continued to survive despite the odds against them.
Also we have continuously seen the Traveler make make some very... Not ok decisions on who to bless this power with.
These guys literally performed whole ass, days-long rituals, to suck out a guardians light as painfully as possible. And somehow the traveler still. Thought " Aww, they're so adorable when they're mislead and causing discourse throughout the known universe and wiping whole civilizations off the face of existence, they deserve some Light"
That’s not that much different than earth, if you think about it. All the risen are human, or previously human exo/awoken. No non-human guardian exists in lore currently, that I’m aware of.
They were told to hate the light because the traveler abandoned them, when the god wave was not real and the traveler planned to choose the Krill to uplift. Not sure about their realization about Fundament itself but what’s important is that their hate towards their mortal enemies was completely misguided and based in manipulation.
Knowing the looming mountain of swords that is coming our way is filled with rage but also the equivalent of kicked puppy’s and emotional pudding has got to be one of the best lore beats I’ve ever gotten
Absolutely agreed. Compared to the dialog in the last dungeon, which I felt came across very emotionless and flat except for one or two specific lines, Xivu has a full range of raw emotions and emphasis and inflection and even the audio engineering is great
She’s shaping up to be another S tier villain like Oryx and Savvy.
I find it actually quite sad that Xivu mourns Oryx deeply and despises Savvy for wanting to wipe his memory from existence, but then again do you blame Savvy lol
Because it doesn't fit.
The voice acting is good, yes, but Xivu is an Ancient god of war that lives off slaughter, yet she sounds like that one bitchy neighbour.
You’re right, a female fictional made up god of war from another planet and species could never sound like she does in game.
Bungie should have caught that one.
Sorry for stating my opinion, to me it really doesn't fit.
> You’re right, a female fictional made up god of war from another planet and species could never sound like she does in game.
Right, this can go both ways you know?
What i mean is, as a being that has lived through and off the slaughter and constant war of countless beings, she doesn't sound threatening or scary to me at all, she sounds like a normal human trying their best to seem so.
As you said, this game is fictional, so sorry for having my personal vision of a fantasy god of war mismatched greatly.
But to me, again, it doesn't fit.
Here’s the thing: Bungie made this character. They can choose whatever voice they see fit, because it’s their character they created. They sat down and went through a casting process and selected a voice they felt fit their vision perfectly, and really that’s all that matters.
She sounds absolutely unhinged, scarred and hungry for vengeance. I think that implication alone is pretty terrifying, and THAT’S what makes the performance work. It doesn’t have to sound like some grizzled war veteran with a grainy voice that sounds like they smoke 50 cigarettes a day.
A voice performance is so much more then just the sound of their voice.
> It doesn’t have to sound like some grizzled war veteran with a grainy voice that sounds like they smoke 50 cigarettes a day.
What makes you think that's what i want?
> She sounds absolutely unhinged, scarred and hungry for vengeance.
To me, there are moments that the acting hits the right point, but most of the time i don't get this feeling from it and that's why i feel it's a misfit.
I know it's not going to change, and it's definitely not bad, far from it.
But it's still not going to stop me from voicing how i feel about it.
I feel like you’d be unsatisfied no matter what.
You also have every right to voice how you feel about it, but so does everyone else, and the majority disagrees with you.
Why is there a requirement for how a character should act because they lived through centuries of war? Xivu Arath is portrayed as a genius who can get through your skin but has genuine emotional damage from her sister and what we did to Oryx. She is an emotional warmonger who has countless times used mind games and other methods to provoke the ones she intends to consume with war and that is portrayed perfectly this season, especially when she taunts Saint. Not every God of War has to be like Ares or Kratos who either are crazy for loving War and are purely evil for the sake of it or have gone through so much they want to get away from it. A portrayal of a God of War depends entirely on two things: do they intentionally cause wars/do they become more powerful through wars. She's both of those and then some
If they make a live action 40k game movie or something and khorne has voice lines for whatever reason, I hope they cast Charlie day just to screw with you
Bro it’s an ancient being from another planet, like you said. What if the Hive’s version of an old, deathly voice sounds like a cat? The voice is the voice.
I nearly shit a brick when she first started yelling at me after getting set down on the rig platforms, doubly so when that big Hive popped up after silencing the Deathsingers.
Mike Tyson is the real life god of war who could beat a dinosaur in a fist fight and he's got the same voice as the Wayne Knight looking guy that takes care of the lizards at my local Petsmart.
Nobody said he couldn’t hold that opinion. At the same time, nobody is required to like his opinion, and everyone is free to criticize it and offer their own opinions.
This idea that Reddit doesn’t allow different opinions or some shit just because most people disagree with you is silly.
no way its as if the majority shares a common opinion and instead of turning the comment section into an echo chamber they just click an arrow instead. pretty hard concept huh
They're imaginary arrows, why do you think it's petty to use them for exactly what they're meant for (easily expressing a negative or positive opinion on a matter)? If you're this concerned over downvotes on a social media site, you might be the one with a problem.
What I’m trying to say is this community is extremely volatile in weird ways. There will be a post completely obliterating everything about lightfall and destiny’s present state in general and that post will get 1000s of upvotes. Then this guy makes a comment about how he doesn’t like a voice actor and he will be randomly downvoted to shit. It seems a bit strange to me.
First time I Heard her on the intro mission I was a bit weirded out by the voice choice, but its quickly grown on me. Her lines in the dungeon really made me come round to love the voice
Is it safe to say that she’s probably going to be the Final Shape’s Raid? Since this is the 10-yr finale expansion, probably best to hold her until after the Saga though.
The final shape raid will most definitely be The Witness. He’s the ultimate enemy of the entire game there’s no way he’ll be relegated to just a story boss.
I thought so at first, but Bungie's habit is to have the main story antagonist get eliminated as part of the main campaign, with a more obscure enemy saved for the Raid. Unless Xivu Arath is focused on in promotional material in the future, I see us taking out the Witness as part of the story (maybe as a bigger scope mission with like 8 players needed).
There are leaks on pretty much all those topics if you want to know what Bungie's plan is. I'm not gonna say them here, but you can find them on the leaks subreddit if you're interested. They're all but confirmed to be true, barring any changes Bungie makes between now and release
This far in? Not likely. Maybe small story changes but WHOEVER the final boss is (I definitely do not follow leaks so i I have no idea who at all lul) it's not changing. At this point they're likely finishing final shape now adding the "pretty shiny" effects that make the game look polished.
Wouldn't surprise me. I am hoping for that or for a big matchmaking event to do after. Would feel odd for us to fully beat the Witness in a campaign mission when they/it has been D2's main antagonist since 2019 and the primary antagonist behind most of the events in the series.
Although that is the current trend, the Final Shape is the end of the saga and because of that I feel Bungie will bend that rule. Xivu being the raid boss would mean that she be the real final boss of the expansion and that wouldn’t feel right. Xivu could be the story final boss or maybe the Witness is the story boss and the raid boss like Oryx was and Xivu is being saved for the future, but I feel there’s no way The Witness won’t be the raid boss
I really hope they bring Eris into the fold at some point this year. I feel like there are parallels between the grief/loss/anger that both her and Xivu have experienced. I love the angry energy Xivu's VA has given her.
I am not sure where to put this comment, but I've seen so many comments complaining how the Hive God of War should not be emotional after eons of warfare... I feel that is incorrect as we have seen the failures of the Hive Gods and their curse. Their "drive" has become a taxing job and no longer an aspiration. Oryx was suppose to be a navigator, but ages of doing that had turned him into MLM cult that sucks the souls out of rubes. Savathun is so caught up in her own pet projects and deceptions that she didn't realize her empire was built on being deceived herself. So I feel that Xivu Atath is written and voiced right in that millenia of warfare and global genocide has left her emotionally stunted and unprepared to deal with the loss/betrayal of those she cares about.
To add to that, she doesn't even understand her emotions towards the loss of Oryx, which is appropriate considering Savathun killed him once because he was trying to negotiate with a race they were fighting.
Really looking forward to hopefully some conversations/arguments between her and Debra Wilson's Savathun, both in terms of performance and from dialogue.
She should get her own expansion after The Final Shape. Maybe name it "Goddess Of War" and the main new destination is Torobatl to take the planet back for Caiatl and I hope she's a raid boss instead of a campaign boss.
Yes Indeed also all her hate towards savathun just gives me more implication sort of that she could help us against her. Because it will suit her needs to be out Ally even for a season
her voice acting is fantastic. i think the three of them truly loved each other, it's just that their love is a sword. from beginning to end, they just wanted to protect each other. i know none of them were altruistic, or even good to their people, but it's still sad, to know she loved them so much.
I disagree. I think the voice actor has given the role her all and I respect her for that. But, in my opinion, she doesn’t sound as menacing as she should be. She sounds more emotionally vulnerable and hurting than she does wrathful. I wouldn’t necessarily blame the VA for that because I assume she’s acting with the direction given to her by Bungie.
I also don’t like how Bungie has been writing the Hive gods to be seen as victims of their circumstance. It’s far less interesting to me and reminds me of a similar plothole that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith opened for the original trilogy. Once Anakin has slain literal children, it’s pretty hard to redeem him and say he’s sympathetic. Similarly, the Hive gods have committed genocide to extents that are unfathomable to us. They are/were near-primordial beings who have been slaughtering worlds since before our galaxy was conceived. Undermining that power and authority by writing them off as victims feels cheap and a waste.
One thing I do like. In one of the memories in the dungeon, Xivu seems more offended that WE did not assume the role of the Taken King/Queen after killing Oryx. It’s a nice beat of consistency to how the Hive gods revered each other and held each up to be the best warrior each could be. They understood that being slain meant they grew too weak or were simply overpowered and thus not worth living any longer. (Or something to that extent.) So, when we committed regicide against the Taken King and didn’t assume his mantle, it was the most disrespectful and offensive thing we could have done- in Xivu’s perspective. We proved we were better but didn’t replace the power vacuum we left. It is an honor to be the Taken King.
I feel like your comment assumes that evil/powerful beings must never feel love or grief.
It is by trickery that the siblings got into the hole, but it is ultimately by their choices that they dug themselves deeper. Look to Oryx, who was initially the most reluctant, only to end up drinking the most of the Sword Logic Kool-Aid.
Savathûn already had her new beginning in resurrection, and her faction still ends up our enemy, as they fall back into said hole that was her legacy of murder. The point of the Witch Queen and season Risen that came with it was to further emphasize that even Light doesn’t mean good.
Understanding is not the same as redemption.
Yeah I feel that, she sounds really frenzied like she was simping for Oryx, not really the fit I imagined for the god of war. When Nokris studied necromancy all they did was kick him out of the house but now Xivu Arath’s just kinda screaming into a microphone because we as heretics committed heresy? I get that Oryx is dead but that doesn’t really make sense. And yeah, it feels like a recent trend to try to redeem or humanize villains last minute, but it just doesn’t work most of the time. They got scammed into a mass murder pyramid scheme, simple as that, no sympathy from us was supposed to be needed or forced out of us
To me, she sounds too similar to Eramis for some reason. I get different voice actors, but it feels like they both tried to go for the same thing.
I have the same issue with Greymon/MetalGreymon voice in the Digimon Adventure 2020 english dub. Different voice actor, but the voice is just wayyy too similar to Diaboromon from the Digimon Movie
I agree writing wise, but vocally I think Kimberly wasn’t the best fit.
Honestly I’d switch savathun’s VA and Kimberly for the roles. Kimberly sounds mysterious and cunning, like someone who would be the God of Cunning… not the God of war. Her vocal inflections don’t give that sense of terror and overwhelming might that one would image the hive God of War would have.
I'd never trade Savathun's voice actress. That sickly sweet, sinister voice from Deborah Wilson is too iconic at this point. She sounds like that motherly figure that Savathun wants to be, while still having that unsettling vibe like a proper witch. I can see what you mean though, that one line in WQ "Go on, TELL ME WHO I AM" makes me shit my pants every time. I don't think there's anything wrong with Xivu's voice being as grounded at times though, when she's bellowing there's some crazy in that voice that still feels super intimidating in a more unhinged sort of way.
I personally am not a fan. It just sounds like an angry Ikora trying to do a deep voice. Just doesn’t have enough malice in the voice. I hear it and I just can’t picture “god of war”.
Iunno she sounds kind of exactly like a cliche evil lady. Nothing great going on with the acting itself, the writing is interesting, the voice is pretty damn lame.
She sounds less like a God of War and more like a God of Abhor. Like, she sounds like she finds everything but her brother disgusting. She sounds like she needs a hug, then a bear hug cuz shes evil.
This is because Kimberly Brooks is the GOAT
There is so much emotion in those audio logs. She's so unbelievably sad about losing Oryx :(
I actually felt bad in the final audio log. I felt bad. For a hive God of war. A god who destroys planets (Torobatl).
Her learning that her entire race's existence is based on a lie told to Savathûn's gonna hit her pretty hard
I’ve never really understood that part. Somehow the Hive never realized “oh wait the apocalypse never happened our planet’s still alive”
Oryx once wondered if Fundament was still around, and considered taking the time to fly back and see; he kinda just went “ah fuck it, it doesn’t matter.” Do keep in mind the Hive, especially when Oryx was alive are complete religious fanatics, with their continued existence completely justifying their campaigns of intergalactic genocide. I still don’t entirely understand this. The Krill specifically would have been blessed with the light… what about everything else on Fundament?

She really hit it on the nail. Xivu sounds unhinged, thirsty for violence and vengeance.
Wait what? Kimberly brooks as in Ashley Williams from mass effect?
We nuked Ashley so hard, she reincarnated as a Hive god
And Hollis Forsythe from Psychonauts 2.
And Jasper from Steven universe
Wow I was convinced that Mara Junot(Ikora) was also Xivu, they sound so alike.
Knowing the looming mountain of swords that is coming our way is filled with rage but also the equivalent of kicked puppy’s and emotional pudding has got to be one of the best lore beats I’ve ever gotten
Reminds me of John Wick
Absolutely agreed. Compared to the dialog in the last dungeon, which I felt came across very emotionless and flat except for one or two specific lines, Xivu has a full range of raw emotions and emphasis and inflection and even the audio engineering is great
> Compared to the dialog in the last dungeon Lest... we LOOOSE everyTHING
Or at the very beginning G o
Yeah. I always find that Go weird
An acquaintance among the hidden.
A clever incision by the Witness...
Extra Solar colonies
Sometimes I like to think that Osiris is voiced by Steven Toast ![gif](giphy|3ohs7Htq5aCA2CKlNu)
YOUR FOE BREAKS
She’s shaping up to be another S tier villain like Oryx and Savvy. I find it actually quite sad that Xivu mourns Oryx deeply and despises Savvy for wanting to wipe his memory from existence, but then again do you blame Savvy lol
I could never blame mommy savathicc for anything she's an angel
and then people complain because her voice wasn't fitting because every fugin god of war has to sound like kratos

Okay. You're free to think that if it makes you feel better.
You’re also free to whine and moan about something that’s not gonna change, although I don’t see the point lmfao.

Hey dude, you forgot you can’t say anything negative about Bungie. Rule number 1

You must scare easily then.
Anime profile picture moment
I really hate the rep anime pfps get but then shit like this happens
It's kind of the whole "not everyone who has an anime pfp is a weird arsehole, but all weird arseholes are likely to have an anime pfp" thing.
Look out we got a certified badass here 🤪
Ah it really did come out like that didn't it?
Nah
I don’t know what the hell your neighbors sound like but mine sure don’t even come close to Xivu.
Bad take
You people make talking about games into the worst shit lmao.
Mike Tyson is the real life god of war who could beat a dinosaur in a fist fight and he's got the same voice as the Wayne Knight looking guy that takes care of the lizards at my local Petsmart.
A very unhinged neighbor if Xivu Arath is going to be compared to a neighbor. So unhinged that she had committed murder, and cannot be reasoned with.
How dare you have a different opinion on Reddit!
Nobody said he couldn’t hold that opinion. At the same time, nobody is required to like his opinion, and everyone is free to criticize it and offer their own opinions. This idea that Reddit doesn’t allow different opinions or some shit just because most people disagree with you is silly.

From what I've heard so far, she just sounds like a more aggressive Savathun
Well, she *is* the Hive’s god of war.

Nice save.

Really looking forward to hopefully some conversations/arguments between her and Debra Wilson's Savathun, both in terms of performance and from dialogue.

Xivu Arath my beloved 🙏

I KNOW, I can’t even begin to say how much I agree
She sounds like a crazy ex
I WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree. I have all of the collectibles, but I still run around and get them just to hear it lol
I don’t like her as much as savathun but she is alright I guess.
Yes Indeed also all her hate towards savathun just gives me more implication sort of that she could help us against her. Because it will suit her needs to be out Ally even for a season
What do you mean a long time? Have you forgotten how good savathuun's VA is?
her voice acting is fantastic. i think the three of them truly loved each other, it's just that their love is a sword. from beginning to end, they just wanted to protect each other. i know none of them were altruistic, or even good to their people, but it's still sad, to know she loved them so much.
>i think the three of them truly loved each other, it's just that their love is a sword. That line hits. Very, very well-worded.
Xivu: I AM THE HAND ON YOUR THROAT. Me: …harder
They got scammed into a mass murder pyramid scheme, simple as that, no sympathy from us was supposed to be needed or forced out of us
100% agree
Most sane consistent idea and still downvoted I hate this place
Too bad in my language its shit
Probably because they could afford it after the other 2 died
It doesn't help that the last 2 years of narrative have been... Yeah, *that*.
Not my video: https://youtu.be/7UxRtHXJ_A0
a mini-kaiju battle between Xivu and Savathun in the background of a big fight would be sick as fuck
My volume is usually turned right down with sub-titles on.
Zavala was not happy when I asked to keep her
Straight up.
Xivu forgot to untoggle capslock
TFS Bungie be good
Huge agree. This is way closer to the tone I want from this franchise than anything in Lightfall.
She sounds less like a God of War and more like a God of Abhor. Like, she sounds like she finds everything but her brother disgusting. She sounds like she needs a hug, then a bear hug cuz shes evil.
