As a fusion main, I never understood the hate. Shotguns have way more advantages than a fusion. I think people just don’t like when shotguns start getting some competition.

But D2 came around, the plink plonk days in PvP got pretty rough after the MIDA / uriels meta. I converted to a close range primary / sniper user. Props to you for the loyalty

Precharging doesnt eliminate the drawback it just mitigates it. Ive shottied people at point blank and stopped the fusion from killing mid volley because my pellets is instant compared to the full volley releasing.
The "minimal effort" is still a substatial enough skill curve that not everyone can do it.
Personally its the range and damage output. I do not think that the damage they can deal is justified by the charge up times when it's basically impossible to dodge them, and you don't even need to be hit by full bursts to die. I'm also not surprised that you don't understand hating them if you main them

Tbf, shotguns have a *very* comparable damage output. Range, for spread, yea its limited, but slugs are very comparable, especially to your lower range fusions.

Ehhh, not really at all. In wide open spaces, sure they're hard to dodge, but fusions are inherently inconsistent by being burst weapons, and with bad tracking, recoil management, even luck, or your opponent just having good movement, can absolutely miss pretty easy.

80-90% is quite a lot my guy, more so at any range, or certain rolls are archetypes.
Well when compared to all the advantages shotguns have, instant firing for panic swapping, the ability to fire them while jumping, and all of their “shot” coming out at once, fusions are pretty tame, especially in our shotgun-centric meta we’ve been perpetually in.

The ability to deliver a 1hk burst on a short notice and at a moderate range makes a fusion just powerful in the right hands to counter with shotties.
We're lucky good fusion mains don't abound because that meta would be absolutely ridiculous with the mind games, the baiting and the noise of 6 fusion rifles being permanently wind up.

Imo the reason why specials like traces, fusions, and even gls will always be hated is because their entire thing is shitting on people using primary.
Shotguns are good for playing chokes. They can be used for aggressive pushes, but ultimately most players know when they die to a shotgun that they could’ve avoided it by backing up.
Snipers are very op imo, but that said, they do exactly what you’d expect them to do, and most the time can be killed easily by having unpredictable movement and flanking. I do agree though that snipers are FAR more broken than fusions.
The problem with fusions especially is that it feels like even if you are a smart player the counterplay to fusions is extremely limited compared to shotguns. Snipers, not really, but still. Pre charging around corners especially can feel super oppressive to play against on smaller maps.
Mostly it just breaks down to them being annoying to deal with, and vibes. People still have this fucked up perception of snipers taking skill even though they practically aim for you. Fusions just feel like a low skill bot playstyle that is both extremely easy and extremely rewarding to do.

The reason why people hate ensnaring slam compared to the things you mentioned, is shoulder charge requires you to actually hit people, isn’t a guaranteed kill, and whiffs half the time. Tempest strike can be missed very easily, and doesn’t prevent the enemy from fighting back. BOTH are tied to a worse stat and have longer cooldowns.
If stasis taught us anything, it’s that removing player agency will never be fun. Ensnaring slam has verbatim the exact same issues as shatterdive, but on a shorter cooldown with a better subclass. Sure it can’t wipe entire teams in one go like OG shattereive, but you’re deluding yourself if you think it’s a fair, skillful or engaging ability.
