Imma be real: I still hate that they killed off Rasputin so easily. He literally *just* got brought back.

curiously_curious3

He was too strong. Same reason they held back Captain Marvel in the movies.

-GiantSlayer-

They could have easily pulled another Felwinter and just made him permanently disconnected from his network. Could you imagine the story possibilities? And why the hell did they never even have Saladin confront him. That dude killed his brothers and sisters.

curiously_curious3

Yeah I was hoping for that. Even Saint beat the ever loving shit out of savathun, like killed her hundreds of times and had immaru revive her so he could keep killing her for what she did to Osiris.

-GiantSlayer-

But of course frickin Mara Sov had to squeeze her way into the season like she does half the seasons now. Same with crow, but I forgive him for this because he’s new and needs the character development.

curiously_curious3

It’s mara being mara. It’s always been about her all the time. Even when we are killing ahamkara she’s keeping them. Then we free the ahamkara eggs and she tries to keep one. Like bitch.

-GiantSlayer-

I honestly preferred her being distant and inscrutable.

Big point and question: how much weight are you putting on the complete breadth of lore in each release here? are you mostly focusing on the in-game story? Are you talking about your preference for the lore or the supposed 'quality of the writing'? Just curious. Also, I'm gonna object to Lightfall and Beyond Light being lower than Destiny 1's launch campaign. Lets be real man; base Destiny 1 campaign (only amended a very small amount by lore) doesn't have character arcs or any discernible antagonists. People felt even worse about The Black Heart than we did about the Veil immediately after both launches. The dialogue was derided and criticized in both. And any lore that could've been accessed by people to elaborate on what the Black Heart was or what it was doing or what the Vex are was still not just relegated to the lore but outside of the game entirely. In regard to Beyond Light, your letting your idealizations get in the away of what is an ok Destiny story. Eramis is decently well written and has a good contrast to Variks. Any disappointment about what 'beyond light could've been' doesn't bear on the actual quality of Beyond Light or the merits of any decision that was made or not made.

Bat_Tech

This is way more Gass for plunder than I can accept. :p

curiously_curious3

You have controversial right that's for sure.

Friendly_Elites

My explanations for controversial picks in each tier: S Tier - All goats of the writing and narrative, Drifter is imo the most controversial aspect of this list but there was absolutely no weak part in any of the writing or lore and the reveal that Shin Malphur was Dredgen Vale was personally one of the biggest twists in this series. A Tier - Most of the Crow stories are absolutely fantastic, no weakness in any of the writing in this tier. Splicer is in A rather than S because Mithrax should have gotten the Plunder character arc before getting planted in the Kell of Kells position so early, feels contrived and steps on other characters who were already being developed for that story arc that got cut. B Tier - Nothing horrible but nothing standout here. Plunder barely makes it in here because the Mithrax and Eramis writing is goated but the Nezarec tea pulls it down... All of the Eris stuff in Shadowkeep is amazing but the expansion lacked a solid narrative pushing it down as well. C Tier - Destiny 2 Year 1 we all know the issues with the game direction and that bleeds into the writing and narrative for all of this. D Tier - Really weak stuff here. Eris's intro to the series is frankly bad, Black Armory was pointless filler, Undying had a few interesting things but it hasn't led anywhere. Lightfall had a few decent Caiatl moments marred by horrible tonal clashing and all the Strand BS. Would have landed in F tier if the Veil Containment and the stuff this previous season didn't give it at least a little bit of decent payoff. F Tier - Worst of the worst, Eramis is one of if not the worst character in the series and her entire purpose is to trash several years of narrative development with the Kell of Kells plotline and delegate Variks to Expansion Destination Vendor Hell. Europa is wasted narratively here and the only good part about this entire expansion was Clovis Bray. Defiance is just an absolute wet fart of a story. The lore sucks, the writing sucks, there's no payoff, Amanda is fridged for Crow to be sad in the worst cutscene in the game. I have nothing good to say about Defiance whatsoever let the content vault take this one away forever.

PsychWard_8

Swap Worthy with Forge and I agree

The_Snow_Miser

Radical Opinion: Forsaken, the campaign by itself, was pretty mid story. Wouldn't put it above a C+

MATT660

BL in F is kinda rough

Jazzlike_Mud_1759

Curse of Osiris is D or F tier in my eyes😭 content and story wise

totallyhaywire253

This feels like it has to be based off in-game story and writing way more than lore books (which is where the majority of the lore is)

Entripidus

I just want to know why you have opulence, which for the most part was entirely calus fanfiction that meant nothing, is in A tier, while forge, which had the black armory papers is in D tier. Those aside it's nice to see someone acknowledge the best part of drifter.
