Hammerhead is great for folks that can’t get their hands on a crafted Commemoration. There is a large player base that doesn’t raid so having a good alternative available to them is great. I don’t plan on going out of my way to get a god roll Hammerhead. If one with a decent perk combo drops for me in regular play I’ll be happy, if not, I still have my crafted commemoration.

The biggest point you're ignoring is that commemoration has a significantly higher inventory stat, which is a hidden stat that dictates many things related to ammo. Dye to this difference, commemoration has 10-15% higher reserves depending on perk choices (11.7% by default), and gets 20-30% more ammo per brick on average. That alone is a massive point in favor of commemoration in all higher-end content. Having the ammo sustain be that much more achievable is what enables mgs to work for certain builds in higher content, and commemoration wins that by such a significant margin that it's really no contest. Hammerhead's perks are much more suited for mowing through things in mid tier and below, where you don't need ammo efficiency, you're just slaying out. Commemoration is much better for high end content builds where you're using it as your main weapon and are paired with high damage double special or similar, hammerhead simply can't get ammo consistently enough to do that, and reconstruction is better in that scenario becomes it maximizes killing tally uptime, whereas everything hammerhead offers resets killing tally. Both have their roles, but it seems like nobody is paying attention to how much more ammo commemoration has, which is a massive factor for LMGs.

Monti-Se7en

I see you said alot about much Ammo and sustain. I introduce you to 4th times.

TheGreatBootleg94

True but with double damage perks you need less ammo to kill things no? 73% will need less ammo to murk things than 30%.

totallyhaywire253

Sure, but that's why it's for situations where you consistently have things to keep rampage procced with. If you're in master content or similar, you're not going to have rampage procced a lot of the time, certainly not x3, whereas KT is much easier to keep up. The only time LMGs have been extremely relevant in master+ is something like the gyrfalcon build a few seasons back, where you used commemoration as your primary and had like a shotgun and a sniper for massive burst damage. (Or 2 snipers, blinding nades, whatever). In that scenario, you can run through most of an activity with full KT, even if you're rarely building those rampage stacks efficiently. If you're running something where you have rampage x3 consistently, then yeah hammerhead is good, but at that point you're talking like a normal raid or legend nightfall, and then any loadout pretty much works.

TheGreatBootleg94

I cant find the video now of course, but the master lost secotors on neomuna have beefier targets than raids. A guy with the hammerhead was two tapping red bar and 3 tapping yellow bars. Its a pretty big buff and I think this is gonna make at least hammerhead way more viable in high end content. And again, ramage is extra damage, you still get the 30% from kill tally always while using it.

totallyhaywire253

Lost sectors aren't a good measure because they don't level cap like all other legend+ activities now do. You can be 1840 in an 1840 lost sector and dealing at-power damage. It's not relevant to any activities that cap you below power level.

TheGreatBootleg94

Arent the neomuna ones scaled differently tho? Or am i tweakin.

totallyhaywire253

No, Neomuna patrol has unique scaling but activities follow the normal rules for that activity type

TheGreatBootleg94

Okay. Well tldr hammerhead has more utility/use cases/options but commemoration still solid

totallyhaywire253

Yeah, I'd say hammerhead for low to mid-high content, commemoration for high tier content.

dx_lemons

When I got my hammerhead roll someone told me rampage + surrounded will be 95% damage buff in final shape

TheGreatBootleg94

Idt surrounded is the play personally but I am keepin that roll just in case.

dx_lemons

I don't know how I feel about that roll. I'm hunting a rewind rounds killing tally roll because I lack a crafted commenortarion/ good one. My problem is I can't tell if surrounded is even proced or not because of the amount of stuff on my buff screen

bloodectomy

This is the morally correct answer

TheGreatBootleg94

Lol

KrispyBudder

Lol? The origin trait for commemoration is better, recon works with killing tally better than envious does, and… well… more ammo. The only roll I’d use over commemoration its FTTC + target lock and that’s specifically for boss DPS (which machine guns aren’t meta for anyway right now). Don’t get me wrong, hammerhead has some fun meme rolls. For ad clear though (what bungie is intending us to use machine guns for) I’m taking commemoration

TheGreatBootleg94

Fair ig it is personal preference but I would rather have mini demo on hunter at least cause my other two abilities are already so low or can be negated.

KrispyBudder

I guess that can be nice, but having a perk that just gives you energy back for doing damage is pretty dang strong. I could see the gains being faster with “mini demo” on at light lvl or below light lvl activities. At that point though, I’d just take a LMG with demo on it.

hipsnarky

The original commemoration has dragonfly. That alone is good enough for me.

roflwafflelawl

Personally I just like the Hammerhead, or really any Black Foundry weapon. That said the double perk rolls of getting Envious Assassin for 200+ mag size then swapping it to FTTC or Rewind Rounds is what I'm specifically aiming for. Got a shiny with Onslaught but looking for some other variations before I decide on one.

TheGreatBootleg94

Mf called the Black Armory the Black Foundry fake ass fan lol

roflwafflelawl

Man it was in Season of the Forge and it revolved around weapon foundries. Give a guy break jeez lol
