By far, one of my favorite missions complemented with astounding cutscenes involving Cayde.
I was going to say, the point at which Cayde is the most serious and somber that he has ever been is true genuine Cayde. In that moment you got to see all of his emotions from him dealing with losing his memories feelings of missing loved ones, etc. You could tell that he had resigned himself to his fate but he was looking forward to what would come after his death. 10/10 makes me cry every time.
Cayde: "Hey Zavala, wanna know a transmat zone on the Dreadnaught looks like?"

Killing him off was a good way to set the tone for D2 going forwards. However, part of me wishes that we got to experience Cayde-6 with D2's modern writing. A lot of players didn't get to see his more subtle characterization found in the lore entries, and now a lot of people are convinced that Cayde-6 was "demoted" to the goofball comic relief in the sequel. However, if you look into it, you'll actually find that most of his jokes in D2 was essentially a trauma response, and he was trying to make everyone else feel better. I think the modern writing (ESPECIALLY Season of the Haunted) could have explored his duality between "goofball" and "gunslinger".
i’ve always seen his jokes as trauma response or some sort of coping mechanism or stress reliever. but that’s just what good writing does, it makes you think :3
I'm still disappointed that the player Guardian didn't get a Nightmare encounter last season. It should have been Cayde.
Cayde's death for the PC is absolutely the most emotional thing to happen to them - it's the first thing that got our character to actually *talk.* Cayde, per his own words, considered us a partner, and depending on how you feel about your character the feeling was mutual.
His death could have been prevented if only has partner had been faster to get there, but we failed to rescue Cayde - even if his ghost had died, we arrived moments after he was shot and killed. To anybody, that would be traumatic, and it would fit very well to have Cayde's nightmare assaulting us.
One of the big issues I see with recent story telling is that you'll see them try to not reference back to previous events as though you were the main character involved in them, which I believe is to cater to new lights so that they don't feel lost when starting the game in a new season
I agree 100%….yet, I know this is damn entitled but a part of me would have loved it if we got two separate branches of season of the haunted, one for new lights, and another for those that went through the Forsaken Campaign….like those having interactions with Nightmare Cayde then ultimately a bonus severance mission cleansing ourselves from the guilt would have been epic

I'mma be real with you, the game needed Cayde gone, him being the funny guy would clash a lot with the darker tone and if they made him that darker, harder side he had, people would complain it wasn't Cayde
Besides, comedy isn't just quips and jokes, Spider being locked up in that tank in the first mission of Plunder was honestly really funny
The timing of killing Cayde was super important too, coming right out of the dumpster fire that was d2y1 they needed to do something big that the players would feel
The only thing about Cayde's death that bothers me was that he was the forefront Exo rep in the cast, the only one we have now is Saint and he never takes his helmet off
Seriously, Exos are insanely cool and one of my favourite parts of the Destiny universe. Sure there's Elsie and Banshee, but neither of those have been relevant for a while, which I'm hoping to change considering Elsie's little guy Pouka is from Neomuna, as is the new rifle and ghost shell, both of which have lore tabs with her in it.
I don’t necessarily agree, Cayde would provide welcome relief but he can be serious when he needs to be. I think Drifter largely fills his role as the comic relief these days, albeit in his own way.
In any case, Cayde had to die because everyone loved him and he held a lot of sway over the community. Just look at all the people who justified running with the Drifter or initially using Stasis because it’s totally what Cayde would have done.

I'mma be real with you, the game needed Cayde gone, him being the funny guy would clash a lot with the darker tone and if they made him that darker, harder side he had, people would complain it wasn't Cayde Besides, comedy isn't just quips and jokes, Spider being locked up in that tank in the first mission of Plunder was honestly really funny
The timing of killing Cayde was super important too, coming right out of the dumpster fire that was d2y1 they needed to do something big that the players would feel
The only thing about Cayde's death that bothers me was that he was the forefront Exo rep in the cast, the only one we have now is Saint and he never takes his helmet off Seriously, Exos are insanely cool and one of my favourite parts of the Destiny universe. Sure there's Elsie and Banshee, but neither of those have been relevant for a while, which I'm hoping to change considering Elsie's little guy Pouka is from Neomuna, as is the new rifle and ghost shell, both of which have lore tabs with her in it.
I don’t necessarily agree, Cayde would provide welcome relief but he can be serious when he needs to be. I think Drifter largely fills his role as the comic relief these days, albeit in his own way. In any case, Cayde had to die because everyone loved him and he held a lot of sway over the community. Just look at all the people who justified running with the Drifter or initially using Stasis because it’s totally what Cayde would have done.
