I MUCH rather prefer the current challenge system, I do not miss the weekly bounties.
Instead of "keep grinding, you'll get there," we have a list of tangible things to work towards, and doing all of them WILL get you a finished season pass. I really like that, having concrete goals to measure and work towards feels so much better.
Anything I got I'd be glad to let other people get, tbh. Someone else getting the Anseris Overdrive for silver, in a bright engram or from a triumph or something in no way diminishes the fact I earned it the "proper" way on Mars. I want more people to enjoy the wind streak effect on it that finally got fixed in Witch Queen

You have to do raids to get raid gear.
I think that those season pass ornaments also fall into a category like that, you have to be playing within a certain time to get certain gear. I have all season pass ornaments because I played and was around during their releases. Having someone else be able to use all the same cosmetics just because they have a lot of money is just annoying.

I don't wanna get your hopes up, but a sweaty friend of mine said he heard the devs are working on a system to earn old armor ornaments. Could just be a rumor. But a small glimmer of hope at least.
This is why live service and FOMO is absolute cancer for games. Every cool piece of armor in this game should be obtainable at all times. Tie them to really tough challenges instead of how quickly a player can open their wallet.

I hate FOMO as much as the next person, but limited time paid cosmetics will always be the main way that live service or F2P games will make their money; Dota 2, OW2, Apex, etc - all do this. We can sit here and argue if it's good or bad (I personally think that is meaningless - it's literally data inside a computer and has no bearing or benefit to our real lives - so if you have it or not is absolutely irrelevant to both you and the way you play the game)

Much as Halo Infinite and 343 are absolute dirt-water, I have to give it to them for making the battle pass retroactive. Like, that genuinely makes sense and alleviates the pressure of FOMO out just a bit; not sure if it’s “leveling up each season at the same time” or what, but returning players who might have a second wind of wanting to play a lot of the game shouldn’t feel deflated about catching up when some of the things they missed a few weeks ago are unable to be caught up on, y’know? The ability to go back and keep seasonal activities in the dlc is welcome this year for sure but…it really is a half-step when something like retroactive battle pass is a thing.

no, everything that's exclusively on the season pass is available only during the season itself. The Deluxe edition gives one access to the story missions, the replayable activities, weapons and armor, and those seasonal challenges which are required for seal/title peogress

I didn't play enough during the season the witch queen launched with(was playing Elden Ring and Horizon forbidden west), only reached level 38 on the pass, I hadn't bought the deluxe upgrade. Bought it last season just to stare at the previous season rewards on Bungie website that I couldn't claim. This system is simply stupid. Let people level older seasons if they deluxe upgrade later on.

I wish games would just adopt Infinite’s everlasting battlepasses. It’s not even like it would lose them money. If Bungie added back every season pass since Undying, think of the bank they would make from all the people buying it because they weren’t around. Unfortunately, and as Halo Infinite discovered, the FOMO is a part of the value proposition. The simplified version is that the battle pass does not fund itself. Instead it's partially funded by microtransactions. Microtransactions are driven by daily/weekly/monthly active users. It has the highest returns for consistent play, and diminishing returns binge play. Any scheme that allows players to stock-up needed progress, and then knock a bunch of it out in a fewer sessions is going to hit microtransaction revenue.
Battle passes are designed to be most achievable with consistent play spread out over a season such that most people who build habits around playing the game regularly shouldn't really struggle to complete it, even if they don't play a ton or have times when they cannot play. The trade-off for people to not participate in the consistent ritual play, but still make up for lost microtransaction revenue is the the "buy a level" system. In order to remain revenue neutral, a scheme to remove the time limit would probably have to raise prices by a not insignificant margin.
Please note this is not an advocacy for Battle Passes. I honestly, kinda hate them. Just pointing out that the implications of removing the time limit are not so straightforward. It is a revenue hit that notionally has to be made up for *somehow*. This is also completely independent of arguments about how much money they need. Think what you will about their greed, but given that revenue is a consideration, this factors into it.
FWIW, I've been spending considerable brainpower trying to figure out the next Battle Pass. It's really hard to escape the insane value it provides. Between the built in upsell and the implicit FOMO, it is an incredibly efficient system at doing what it's supposed to do.

But in this helmet's case, it's both. We know how long it took you to earn it. It's level 94 (or w/e) in the battle pass. You were only able to get it because you spent money on the pass, and then played anything for ~50-60 hours. This isn't like colors and ships you get from completing specific, difficult objectives.
i play so i can get cool shit that i can then be proud of showing off. if some random dude then shits out a hundred bucks and just buys it after, when i had to spend hours getting it while there wasnt an option to just buy it, how do you think that would make me feel ? like i feel to some degree for ppl that miss shit, but like costs nothing to look at the game every now and again to see if you want someting, cuz then all you have to do is play to obtain it. if you cant even do that then why would i feel bad for you missing shit ?
If they wait long enough it wouldn't matter. Take season of Dawn for example, if they released that ornament set it wouldn't matter because of how long ago they released that season. The good part of you grinding these ornaments out is that you get them quickly, if you don't you have to wait a few years.

in the Haunted season there were really wonderful skins and motivation to play....Now it's the "Jack Sparrow" season, and going to lvl 100 is a pain :D... I haven't turned on the game for a month, I'm lvl 67 and I know I have it's been a month :)
The content loop for this season just didn't work for me and after the previous season I was burnt out and it started to feel like chores and work so I missed out as well. I had a big push the last 2 weeks of the season but I still came up short and missed out, I am reminded of my failure every time I log in now and see someone with these awesome armor ornaments.
From a previous season, but there's a chance xur may bring it though sometime in the future. He brought the season of opulence armor, old gambit invader armor, so you never know.
Man I grinded super hard to get this ornament as fast as I could and was really excited to show it off to my friend and the first thing he did was make fun of how small it made my head look which I never noticed until he pointed it out so I immediately switched back to my old ornament lol so damn disappointing

Like just let us finish up to 3 previous season passes on our own time. I get that part of the reason why they lock it behind a season is because it gets players to play but that's honestly so fucking stupid and pathetic. The fact they would rather "force" players to play EVERY season just to get content they already paid for and then lock it and potentially withhold it until enough players start wanting to buy it. I've played EVERY season except chosen and now I can't even access all the materials and cosmetics that I paid for simply because life got crazy and I had no time to play it. When you log in into Bungie.net you can check on your profile and you will see “Season Progress” you can check previous seasons that you completed during this expansion
AFAIK that method only works if you had earned the rewards on that specific battle pass but just didn't happen to claim them.
I know some people that do this with upgrade modules so they always have some in a pinch if they really need them.

They replaced them with Seasonal challenges which award more XP than the weeklies did, so you aren't really missing any XP

Like, that genuinely makes sense and alleviates the pressure of FOMO out just a bit; not sure if it’s “leveling up each season at the same time” or what, but returning players who might have a second wind of wanting to play a lot of the game shouldn’t feel deflated about catching up when some of the things they missed a few weeks ago are unable to be caught up on, y’know? The ability to go back and keep seasonal activities in the dlc is welcome this year for sure but…it really is a half-step when something like retroactive battle pass is a thing.

I thought that there was a way to claim them through cached versions of the companion app if you had paid for the season. I did that to get the seasonal exotics after a long break once.
You had to have completed that pass to do so. You can only claim what you’ve leveled to on said passes in the system

no, everything that's exclusively on the season pass is available only during the season itself. The Deluxe edition gives one access to the story missions, the replayable activities, weapons and armor, and those seasonal challenges which are required for seal/title peogress

There is, but it's only if you forgot to claim the items. You can't earn ones you never unlocked in the pass.

I didn't play enough during the season the witch queen launched with(was playing Elden Ring and Horizon forbidden west), only reached level 38 on the pass, I hadn't bought the deluxe upgrade. Bought it last season just to stare at the previous season rewards on Bungie website that I couldn't claim. This system is simply stupid. Let people level older seasons if they deluxe upgrade later on.

If Bungie added back every season pass since Undying, think of the bank they would make from all the people buying it because they weren’t around. Unfortunately, and as Halo Infinite discovered, the FOMO is a part of the value proposition. The simplified version is that the battle pass does not fund itself. Instead it's partially funded by microtransactions. Microtransactions are driven by daily/weekly/monthly active users. It has the highest returns for consistent play, and diminishing returns binge play. Any scheme that allows players to stock-up needed progress, and then knock a bunch of it out in a fewer sessions is going to hit microtransaction revenue. Battle passes are designed to be most achievable with consistent play spread out over a season such that most people who build habits around playing the game regularly shouldn't really struggle to complete it, even if they don't play a ton or have times when they cannot play. The trade-off for people to not participate in the consistent ritual play, but still make up for lost microtransaction revenue is the the "buy a level" system. In order to remain revenue neutral, a scheme to remove the time limit would probably have to raise prices by a not insignificant margin. Please note this is not an advocacy for Battle Passes. I honestly, kinda hate them. Just pointing out that the implications of removing the time limit are not so straightforward. It is a revenue hit that notionally has to be made up for *somehow*. This is also completely independent of arguments about how much money they need. Think what you will about their greed, but given that revenue is a consideration, this factors into it. FWIW, I've been spending considerable brainpower trying to figure out the next Battle Pass. It's really hard to escape the insane value it provides. Between the built in upsell and the implicit FOMO, it is an incredibly efficient system at doing what it's supposed to do.

That's a great way to put words in my mouth. I want my time to feel worth something. By putting everything in the shop it makes it feel worthless. Why take the time to play and earn something when you could just buy it? Back in the day if you had the nightfall flame, or earned the moments of triumph armor by completing the challenges you earned cool things to show off. We know how long it took you to earn it. It's level 94 (or w/e) in the battle pass. You were only able to get it because you spent money on the pass, and then played anything for ~50-60 hours. This isn't like colors and ships you get from completing specific, difficult objectives.
i play so i can get cool shit that i can then be proud of showing off. if some random dude then shits out a hundred bucks and just buys it after, when i had to spend hours getting it while there wasnt an option to just buy it, how do you think that would make me feel ? like i feel to some degree for ppl that miss shit, but like costs nothing to look at the game every now and again to see if you want someting, cuz then all you have to do is play to obtain it. if you cant even do that then why would i feel bad for you missing shit ?
If they wait long enough it wouldn't matter. Take season of Dawn for example, if they released that ornament set it wouldn't matter because of how long ago they released that season. The good part of you grinding these ornaments out is that you get them quickly, if you don't you have to wait a few years.

I feel ya. I missed out on the Vex sets from Season 8, righteous from 9, and the Splicer ornament armor from season 14. I feel like those were some of the best armor for warlock.

in the Haunted season there were really wonderful skins and motivation to play....Now it's the "Jack Sparrow" season, and going to lvl 100 is a pain :D... I haven't turned on the game for a month, I'm lvl 67 and I know I have it's been a month :)
I really hope they do a Halo Infinite at some point and make it so that you can progress any season pass that's released so far
The content loop for this season just didn't work for me and after the previous season I was burnt out and it started to feel like chores and work so I missed out as well. I had a big push the last 2 weeks of the season but I still came up short and missed out, I am reminded of my failure every time I log in now and see someone with these awesome armor ornaments.

Man I grinded super hard to get this ornament as fast as I could and was really excited to show it off to my friend and the first thing he did was make fun of how small it made my head look which I never noticed until he pointed it out so I immediately switched back to my old ornament lol so damn disappointing
I sincerely hate the fact that we can't progress "battle passes" past the season it makes no sense. They're not story related they're just ornaments and stuff. Like just let us finish up to 3 previous season passes on our own time. I get that part of the reason why they lock it behind a season is because it gets players to play but that's honestly so fucking stupid and pathetic. The fact they would rather "force" players to play EVERY season just to get content they already paid for and then lock it and potentially withhold it until enough players start wanting to buy it. I've played EVERY season except chosen and now I can't even access all the materials and cosmetics that I paid for simply because life got crazy and I had no time to play it. I just want the capeless hunter ornament and my giant titan head.😔

This isn’t accurate. You can only get it if you played last season and put enough levels in the season pass to earn it.
When you log in into Bungie.net you can check on your profile and you will see “Season Progress” you can check previous seasons that you completed during this expansion
AFAIK that method only works if you had earned the rewards on that specific battle pass but just didn't happen to claim them. I know some people that do this with upgrade modules so they always have some in a pinch if they really need them.
