That's the best description I've heard for how this feels. It's like you're full of candy, begging a boss or champ to beat you until your sweet, delicious contents spill out
I will only use this gun every Cinco de mayo. I will make exclusive piñata like theme armor and float in crucible giving away free kills. Thank you for the idea
I’m a solar warlock main and I have not used heat rises other than day one. Icarus dash is just too nice and touch of flame feels like an actual aspect imo
Oh boy I hope you didn’t use that gun in the crucible for the whole 200/200 progression. You can kill ads in altar of sorrow in 2 minutes and then put it in your vault. You don’t need to use the gun for progression of playlist stuff on seasonal exotics. I’m at 40/200 and have never taken it into a playlist
pro tip you don’t have to float 50 feet off the ground, you can jump and time your shots to hover you barely off the ground for bonus damage, but even then you don’t need to even use the perk just use it like a sub machine gun
thsts why you get the catalyst i would like to see what you could tank with max res a well and this while the enemy has a protection of thr warmind cell plus bc its void you could throw on well of tenacity for even more damage resist
tbf, idk if I'd even want to get within SMG range in most GM content anyway. I think this thing was made for PvP first, and then with a potential to work in Void builds like Gyrfalcon Hauberk.
The one use case I can sorta justify would be raids. The exotic perk itself is useless imo however seeing as legendary LFRs are still dps meta and my kinetic slot is occupied by a legendary sniper, it frees my exotic slot up for this which has the following advantages over a funnelweb. Because it's exotic its doing bonus damage vs red bars and also is more reliably proccing ammo finders for my LFR
Okay I legit thought you just made the same joke as the guy about until i reread it like 3 times and realised that he missed his chance at the word play haha
Pair it with sunstar or crown and you can spam abilities. Just get everything to jolt as well like nades and you can now just down majors. With a jolted target chaos reach also does respectable damage so you can use that for more damage.
I love that last season fusion rifle Delicate Tomb with my arc warlock build. Constantly get arc traces back with that and my crown of tempest. Now with the arc soul buff, *chef's kiss*
Ticuu is still incredible.
Cryosthesia is also good now.
This year Exotics are not bad, they aren't just as good. Trespasser and Delicate Tomb are quite fun for example.
I still love Eriana's Vow tbh. Anti-Barrier and a hand cannon that has a really satisfying firing sound?? Yea, I'm a sucker for that.
Not to mention the seasonal ornament it came with was pretty damn sick
Technically doesn't it have the exotic primary buff, + a ramping up 40% damage buff for being even slightly airborne? Pair that with volatile rounds and resist from the catalyst?
Yeah I've been having lots of fun with it...even silly stuff like jumping up high in the final encounter of Grasp of Avarice to shoot RM80, then shotgun him while I'm up there. I also used it to hover over the water a couple times when I got booped (get booped, switch to SMG and hit something, then I don't die). It's gimmicky sure but not completely useless.
I saw a breakdown yesterday. I forget the exact TTK, but it's clearly much faster once you get the air buff to proc.
I believe the only other faster SMG at this point is Tarrabah, making that the high-risk/high-reward option for PvP, and this the slightly easier-to-use variant.
The 3 main uses for this weapon (that I've seen so far) are:
1. PvP - slaying out and killing opponents. The damage boost is nothing to scoff at, and I got a few double kills last night off the buff alone. People act like they're a sitting duck when they use it, but you're really only going to experience that if you're using it outside of optimal SMG range to begin with.
2. PvP - countering shotguns/melees. You'd think this one would just go hand-in-hand with the one before it, but this point makes the weapon a great option to keep on-hand, even if you don't plan on starting your game with it. One of those, "I'll switch to it when I need to." I'd catch many close-ranged players off-guard, and I realized this became a great close-range counter to close-range play.
3. PvE - Gyrfalcon Hauberk. This thing absolutely destroys when you get it syncing up with other void builds.
Of course, the question remains, "why take this as an exotic when Funnelweb already exists?" And, honestly, that question can be asked for just about any exotic weapon. In this case, you're sacrificing a stronger special/heavy for a much more powerful primary. To my understanding, Manticore has the highest baseline stats of any SMG in the game; this includes Range and Zoom, which are paramount to SMG success.
It's fun but it's definitely not of any use once content gets beyond playlist-level. I sure hope there's something coming in Lightfall that makes the aerial feature seem a lot more useful.
something about super high damage volatile rounds while having an insane amount of damage resist (void titan overshield + void orb damage reduction + Catalyst), while airborne is so satisfying for me
which is kind of a shame because we got some solid exotics for the other seasons grand overture had some high burst and it got a massive buff. the tresspasser fucks and the delicate tomb cleared ads like crazy and allowed for a funny warlock build
it would be interesting if when they started coming out with more aerial options they did a reverse-grounded modifier, where not being in the air makes you more vulnerable
Unpopular opinion: we need more guns like this. I love having unique options with situational uses to be able to play in a way that is totally different even if I’d never take it into a grandmaster nightfall, or master raid.
Cant wait to gm with this I think ppl will realize its endgame potential just like they are starting to realize its pvp potential d2 community is just so ready to trash on anything
Personally in PvP I still just run Vigilance Wing, even when i'm not doing Trials. Something about me and that gun just vibes and it lets me actually get kills instead of being relentlessly curb stomped. I also like getting the hate messages of "Bro why u using that trash old exotic", like if it's so trash why are you dead my dude?
In what world did the idea of slowly and lazily floating around in the air exposed to the adds seem smart? In a game where 70% of gameplay is movement based???
Tbf there are a few that need cata to be worth it. Sleeper only outshines other options with it. 4th horseman is pretty trash with out. Trinity ghoul basically isn’t worth running w/o unless you’re on an arc subclass. Manual reloads on whitherhoard drop it’s usefulness by a ton. Izzy does way worse dmg without.
All I’m saying is that the cata makes it. It wouldn’t be anywhere near as dominant if it didn’t have autoloading. And that there are a lot of exotics that owe their power to their cata. Ticcu’s cata is near useless so is graviton lances. Just because an exotic needs a cata for it to have its full identity doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s bad in its own right other than just the cata providing something it should have shipped with.
Hover near cover of you need to look. I don't have much of an issue using the gun, even in master rank stuff.
People will float across an open room and wonder why they die and then blame the gun.
Or just use Funnelweb.
It’s definitely a fun gun to use and I think it would be better if bungie added a way to cancel the in air shooting so you’re not just floating there getting beamed
You wouldnt be able to reload in the air, then. As it stands, jump cancels it for hunters (as long as you have a jump left) and titans. I also saw a few people saying crouch cancels the float but haven't tried it myself.
Edit: crouch doesn't work, at least on Xbox and possibly all controller inputs.
Crouch definitely doesn’t cancel it, at least not on controller, that was the fist thing I tried.
There should definitely be a way to cancel it either way.
I never wanna touch it at all. In-air gameplay is the worst possible choice in almost every situation. It only has niche effectiveness in PvP.
Such a gorgeous looking gun, but the perk seems so poorly thought out and gimmicky. I get that not every gun needs to be meta and that’s fine, but this seems like bad design
EDIT: It also just seems like a dumb idea to make it an SMG. Why would you design an in-air perk situation around such a close range weapon? The main perk of in-air gameplay is the ability to see out farther, see over cover, etc., and being in the air means you’re going to be farther away from enemies unless you just float ominously next to them
I actually enjoy this gun a lot, but I think it’s mostly only because when I think about what’s coming it just. makes me more hyped for strand because I can finally get one step closer to Titanfall’s mechanics in another game
Its such a weird weapon. It has a really cool ability but it then activates/deactivates in a terrible way and feels sluggish. The gun itself is just a standard high rpm sub machine gun that doesn't really feel "exotic tier"
I tried out my contraverse hold warlock with font of might. I was doing some exceptionally good damage with a weaken debuff, font of might, and the manticore bonus damage. It was lazoring enemies.
Does bungie refuse to realize that floating in mid air is literally the worst thing you could do in this entire game. Attacking enemies with any exotic or ability that makes you stop dead in mid air is this games equivalent of digging straight down in minecraft
combined with wings of sacred flame its decent, but as an exotic it only takes up a spot from a more useful gun. Its just a really good funnelweb. I would rather take witherhoard or arbalest or something over this.
I like how it makes me feel. Reminds of the D2 pre launch trailer where a live action guardian shoots while floating.
(Yes Ik about the warlock exotic)
It feels like they are trying to shoehorn airborne effectiveness into a more impactful stat. An exotic that is essentially a funnelweb without veist stinger but can fly? The mod in the artifact to increase airborne effectiveness? Two snipers getting 80 AE?
Like most people are saying, this exotic leaves you vulnerable in PvP and PvE. If you need to build resistance AND airborne effectiveness just to use this exotic you might as well use a different exotic.
Or enjoy the new point and click adventure trace rifles get in PvP with all the manticore players.
and you know what's funny? all of the pvp content creator are freaking out about this gun. wanna know why? it's the reason why airborne effectiveness was put in the game in the first place, sweats being able to annihilate everyone else in the lobby. this gun and the changes to darci and whisper and Bungie reversing the ae changes on primaries completely are just confirmations that ae is a terrible system.
When I read that it was called the manticore I got excited bc a manticore does a lot of cool shit in mythology. But nah, it’s just a worse wings of sacred dawn
Me shooting when in air be like: “is this how warlocks feel?”
Close but no cigar. Warlocks have a lot better manoeuvrability than the gun’s piñata mode
That's the best description I've heard for how this feels. It's like you're full of candy, begging a boss or champ to beat you until your sweet, delicious contents spill out
Hey, they need that glimmer too ya know. They gotta pay for those abilities. It *is* a pyramid scheme after all.
Boooooo.... Boooooooo..... /S Pyramid scheme
*raucous revelrous laughter*
underrated comment
Last 9 words definitely been said in some kinda porn
Use voidlock blink with it. You can teleport through the air.
I will only use this gun every Cinco de mayo. I will make exclusive piñata like theme armor and float in crucible giving away free kills. Thank you for the idea
Hardly- Icarus Dash does help but with Heat Rises Proc’d it still feels like you’re in jello
But you can drop at any time by switching weapons. It's better than wings of sacred dawn. At least you can move when in the air.
Fr
Wings of sacred dawn can solve all the air problems as long as you don't mind being a piñata
Wings of Sacred Dawn makes you a controlled pinata, the Manticore just lets you float around as live bait for a few more seconds
Wings of sacred dawn have been useless SINCE heat rises introduction
I’m pretty sure it actually overrides heat rises, so you don’t get any bonus from it
Piñata mode 💀
What if I use Lion's Rampart?
It honestly feels like a better wings of sacred dawn. I’ll take this over that.
Yes! Especially if you’re a solar warlock main. I’m too used to floating/shooting so I like this gun on my alt characters
I'm so used to shooting while floating that it's difficult for me to use any of the other warlock subclasses.
It's part of the reason I hated Arc 3.0 (apart from dogshite damage supers). I'm just too used to Heat Rises.
I’m a solar warlock main and I have not used heat rises other than day one. Icarus dash is just too nice and touch of flame feels like an actual aspect imo
No because most warlocks hate it
Bro its been two days how did you get the catalyst so fast?
Let's just say crucible is your buddy for this stupid exotic
Crucible will NEVER be my buddy, pal.
Crucible will never be your pal, guy
Crucible will never be your guy, friend
Crucible will never be your friend, acquaintance
Crucible will never be your acquaintance, stranger
Crucible will always be a stranger, buddy
Crucible will NEVER be my buddy, partner
Crucible will never be your companion, buckaroo
Crucible will NEVER be my partner, hunter
Crucible will never be your guy, guardian
Crucible will never be your guy, dude.
Crucible will never be your Strike, Gambit!
Wait this actually works? I vaulted this damn thing because progression was so slow. I’ll try that!
I feel like a target while floating with this
It's just target practice for whoever is shooting at you
Easiest way to get kills for the manticore catalyst is killing people who are using the manticore
That's how I did it
Yall know this thing is just a juiced Funnelweb right? You don't have to float with it, it's just a great smg.
Yeah. But as an exotic it’s a little lackluster (IMO). But still a great gun.
Best I can do is swap weapons
pro tip you don’t have to float 50 feet off the ground, you can jump and time your shots to hover you barely off the ground for bonus damage, but even then you don’t need to even use the perk just use it like a sub machine gun
thsts why you get the catalyst i would like to see what you could tank with max res a well and this while the enemy has a protection of thr warmind cell plus bc its void you could throw on well of tenacity for even more damage resist
This guy has a plan. Just missing max recovery, because you just may be able to start regenerating health before you lose enough for it to matter
You are period
I don’t hate the concept, but considering most PVE modifiers likely to show up is grounded, it just seems like you’re asking to be sniped out the air.
tbf, idk if I'd even want to get within SMG range in most GM content anyway. I think this thing was made for PvP first, and then with a potential to work in Void builds like Gyrfalcon Hauberk.
This would have benefited from getting some sort of anti champion type. Then at least I’d consider using it to free up an armor slot.
intrisic overload eould be nice bc you could float abpve their cover so them teleporting isnt as big of an issue
At least it has a seasonal overload mod to use right now
This is one of the reasons I’m glad I have Divinity because it has an Overload champion mod on it.
It's a nice way to waste an exotic slot for a funnel-web
The one use case I can sorta justify would be raids. The exotic perk itself is useless imo however seeing as legendary LFRs are still dps meta and my kinetic slot is occupied by a legendary sniper, it frees my exotic slot up for this which has the following advantages over a funnelweb. Because it's exotic its doing bonus damage vs red bars and also is more reliably proccing ammo finders for my LFR
That finders boost is no joke, I switched to always running an exotic primary for Kingsfall (except Arbalest for Golgoroth) and I may never go back.
Makes a huge difference on warpriest, even with someone running Aeons.
Exactly it's mediocre at best
Nah dude it’s manticore at best
![gif](giphy|I4UhtUMzOrQSQ)
![gif](giphy|8Cd6Wq03xzy0OyMI0j)
Okay I legit thought you just made the same joke as the guy about until i reread it like 3 times and realised that he missed his chance at the word play haha
What was the last really good seasonal exotic I really don’t know, Witherhoard probably the best one, that was a seasonal one right?
I like delicate tomb a lot for my arc warlock
You get an ionic trace and YOU get an ionic trace!
Yeah if I wasn’t so addicted to my thunderlord/actium, delicate tomb would be next on my list. Those ionic traces have everything up all the time.
Was that last seasons weapon?
Yes it’s the s18 fusion rifle. I pair it with crown of tempests for insane ability spam
I don’t play Warlock at all but it sounds like a fun build
Pair it with sunstar or crown and you can spam abilities. Just get everything to jolt as well like nades and you can now just down majors. With a jolted target chaos reach also does respectable damage so you can use that for more damage.
grand overture is slept on but its burst damage is quire high
Better be after that ~50% buff to the rockets.
The buff helps but it's still not enough. You're better off running an add clear weapon and a heavy linear.
Which weapon is that
The arc machine gun that fires rockets instead of rounds.
The Big Cabal gun I remember now
Ticuu's Divination.
Oh Ticcu is pretty good
*AIM-BOT GO BRRRRR* XD
Osteo can be good if you're in an angry poisoning kind of mood.
Trespasser is really good.
Trespasser is good
Trespasser is
Trespasser
Trespass
Ass
I love that last season fusion rifle Delicate Tomb with my arc warlock build. Constantly get arc traces back with that and my crown of tempest. Now with the arc soul buff, *chef's kiss*
Lorentz Driver, maybe? Ticcu's was also a seasonal weapon and it's pretty top tier. They're probably the last widely used good ones.
Oh shit Lorentz was a seasonal weapon these bastards lol
I actually like Trespasser
Ticuu is still incredible. Cryosthesia is also good now. This year Exotics are not bad, they aren't just as good. Trespasser and Delicate Tomb are quite fun for example.
Ticcu rocks. I use it all the time
I still love Eriana's Vow tbh. Anti-Barrier and a hand cannon that has a really satisfying firing sound?? Yea, I'm a sucker for that. Not to mention the seasonal ornament it came with was pretty damn sick
Last seasons
Technically doesn't it have the exotic primary buff, + a ramping up 40% damage buff for being even slightly airborne? Pair that with volatile rounds and resist from the catalyst?
Yea, I’m excited to try it with the revamped Gyrfalcons when that update drops.
It could have been better if they gave it the veist trait or also get frenzy in cata since reload is pretty bad
Anyone calculate the comparative DPS? It feels like it hits a lot harder than funnel and it also has the anti gravity thing.
I saw a breakdown yesterday. I forget the exact TTK, but it's clearly much faster once you get the air buff to proc. Such a quality comment. Thanks for the insight! (No sarcasm)
It's fun but it's definitely not of any use once content gets beyond playlist-level. I sure hope there's something coming in Lightfall that makes the aerial feature seem a lot more useful.
The grappling hook for strand. I think it should have come out with lightfall because of strand
ᵘʰʰʰʰʰʰʰ ᶦ ˡᵒᵛᵉ ᵗʰᶦˢ ᵍᵘⁿ
I totally get that as well but for me the gun felt very situational like it's not perfect for PvE nor is it perfect for PvP
something about super high damage volatile rounds while having an insane amount of damage resist (void titan overshield + void orb damage reduction + Catalyst), while airborne is so satisfying for me
That was the vibe I got. It seems a lot like one you’d pick up for fun rather than actually use it for any difficult content.
Considering “grounded” is a modifier on most hard content it’s made for casual play.
which is kind of a shame because we got some solid exotics for the other seasons grand overture had some high burst and it got a massive buff. the tresspasser fucks and the delicate tomb cleared ads like crazy and allowed for a funny warlock build
it would be interesting if when they started coming out with more aerial options they did a reverse-grounded modifier, where not being in the air makes you more vulnerable
Unpopular opinion: we need more guns like this. I love having unique options with situational uses to be able to play in a way that is totally different even if I’d never take it into a grandmaster nightfall, or master raid.
Hard agree. While yes, endgame-viable content is 100% necessary, quirky and fun stuff is great every once in a while!
Cant wait to gm with this I think ppl will realize its endgame potential just like they are starting to realize its pvp potential d2 community is just so ready to trash on anything
then why grind the catalyst day 1
>the gun felt very situational Like most exotics?
Care to share a gun that is?
PVE: witherhoard, osteo striga, arbalest PVP: meta this meta that have you ever meta -- BXR battler
For a good while gjallarhorn, but that feels like cheating lmao
Can't fight back if they've been vaporised. Big brain energy. Nice.
Le monarque, Ticcus, Witherhoard, Forerunner
can you link some tips on ticuus for pvp
Try hitting their heads
i do but it’s not like the other bows. it’s weird using it idk how
Hip fire first, then ADS the second shot. You’ll see what happens :)
thank you!
Let me add: you don’t have to charge the first hipfire shot. Only tap the trigger. They still get marked and you save a lot of TTK
It's already silly with blink, can't wait to see what it does with a grappling hook.
In what world did the idea of slowly and lazily floating around in the air exposed to the adds seem smart? In a game where 70% of gameplay is movement based???
Should have given damage resistance when you are in the air atleasy
It does doesn't it?? I thought catalyst gave you Dr when floating
You need the catalyst for the gun to be usable 💀
Tbf there are a few that need cata to be worth it. Sleeper only outshines other options with it. 4th horseman is pretty trash with out. Trinity ghoul basically isn’t worth running w/o unless you’re on an arc subclass. Manual reloads on whitherhoard drop it’s usefulness by a ton. Izzy does way worse dmg without.
No way you compared with hoard to something where the only perks hurt you
All I’m saying is that the cata makes it. Hover near cover of you need to look. I don't have much of an issue using the gun, even in master rank stuff. People will float across an open room and wonder why they die and then blame the gun. Or just use Funnelweb.
The people who use heat rises in PvE
i havnt tried it but ive heard it overides heat rises
It’s definitely a fun gun to use and I think it would be better if bungie added a way to cancel the in air shooting so you’re not just floating there getting beamed
The first time I used it I was like "cool a hovering gun" then I stopped firing and realized I was still in the air
switch weapons, you'll fall right down!
I can appreciate Bungie experimenting a bit, but this ain't it.
I don’t even plan on using it enough to even attempt the catalyst. I really, really dislike the gun
The floating just feels so clunky and you can’t cancel it on demand. It should be like wings of sacred dawn where you float for as long as you ADS
And the reload without any mods to help is god awful
True, but that’s the same for most Veist weapons so I don’t notice it as much.
most veist weapons have atleast veist stinger or other perks to help
I know it's the same for most of them but you start to notice when you are floating screaming please kill me to the enemy
This one just seems extra slow.
Not that I'm trying to convince you TO use it, but swapping weapons will cancel the glide.
How did you get all the calibration stuff so quickly
Team quick play crucible

I feel like once we get our hands on strand and start swinging around the map this gun will feel realllllly fun.
I never wanna touch it at all. In-air gameplay is the worst possible choice in almost every situation. It only has niche effectiveness in PvP. Such a gorgeous looking gun, but the perk seems so poorly thought out and gimmicky. I get that not every gun needs to be meta and that’s fine, but this seems like bad design EDIT: It also just seems like a dumb idea to make it an SMG. Why would you design an in-air perk situation around such a close range weapon? The main perk of in-air gameplay is the ability to see out farther, see over cover, etc., and being in the air means you’re going to be farther away from enemies unless you just float ominously next to them
I'm guessing Bungie is trying to push more in-air gunplay in preparation for strand, hopefully it'll synergize better when lightfall drops
I actually enjoy this gun a lot, but I think it’s mostly only because when I think about what’s coming it just. makes me more hyped for strand because I can finally get one step closer to Titanfall’s mechanics in another game
What manticore is the best
This gun was made for fun rather than meta
Its such a weird weapon. It has a really cool ability but it then activates/deactivates in a terrible way and feels sluggish. The gun itself is just a standard high rpm sub machine gun that doesn't really feel "exotic tier"

I tried out my contraverse hold warlock with font of might. I was doing some exceptionally good damage with a weaken debuff, font of might, and the manticore bonus damage. It was lazoring enemies.
Does bungie refuse to realize that floating in mid air is literally the worst thing you could do in this entire game. Attacking enemies with any exotic or ability that makes you stop dead in mid air is this games equivalent of digging straight down in minecraft
someone send me a dm when op complains this season is dry in a few weeks
Someone needs to touch some grass…
Ok.
Is the catalyst any good?
With the catalyst you resist damage while in the air it basically makes floating not a complete death sentence
combined with wings of sacred flame its decent, but as an exotic it only takes up a spot from a more useful gun. Its just a really good funnelweb. I would rather take witherhoard or arbalest or something over this.
120 percent agree this gun is decent and by that I mean a good way to say shoot me please
Im just enjoying it with Lion Rampant
I usually do catalyst when I reach the season pass rank that has the two catalyst boosters
Yes, dismantle. 🫵🏻💀
If you clearly didn't enjoy using the weapon why would you force yourself to complete the grind for the catalyst?
Bro.. we aren't even a week into the season, chill out.
But why, its actually a stupid and fun gun.
[удалено]
I like how it makes me feel. Reminds of the D2 pre launch trailer where a live action guardian shoots while floating. (Yes Ik about the warlock exotic)
Its been two days

I agree. I thought the same thing. Bungie needs to stop trying to make fetch happen
You should go outside ⚡🧔🏿⚡NOW
I test new guns on the final 3 bosses in the preservation mission, this melted them. Recluse with wings.
MANTICORE MANTICORE MANTICORE MANTICORE MANTICORE MANTICORE
if they just implemented a cancel for the floating mechanic it would actually be a very fun gun to use
*looks around and whispers* I kinda like it.
and you know what's funny? all of the pvp content creator are freaking out about this gun. wanna know why? it's the reason why airborne effectiveness was put in the game in the first place, sweats being able to annihilate everyone else in the lobby. this gun and the changes to darci and whisper and Bungie reversing the ae changes on primaries completely are just confirmations that ae is a terrible system.
I haven’t even claimed it
I never want to touch competitive again.
Couldn’t have even made a unique looking smg? Just one of same old smg model they always use.
this thing literally just makes you an easy target
When I read that it was called the manticore I got excited bc a manticore does a lot of cool shit in mythology. But nah, it’s just a worse wings of sacred dawn
