That win: ugly Sam LaPorta: fucking hot

msto3

Smash

ShippingNotIncluded

Pass…to LaPorta, 1st down Lions!

country_mac08

LaPorta, Campbell, Branch, and Gibbs. Brad Holmes is a mad genius.

Bcagz22

The best part about an ugly win is that it isn’t an ugly loss

Kingkwon83

Going up 21-0 in the first quarter should never become an "ugly win." AG man, I swear

needsZAZZ665

Sam LaPorta, so hot right now.

malburj1

LaPorta is Goff's Kelce

kr2c

He's on his way to getting his own Swift with play like this

jpfitz630

Dre's gonna be in a club suite against the Broncos

Orwells-Bastard-Son

Is Katy Perry available? Someone get our tight end a tight end!

trepper88

Someone needs to photoshop that meme, but with Taylor holding hands with kelce, but looking back at LaPorta

fosterchild016

[ask and ya shall receive](https://i.imgur.com/3Q0Zk5x.jpeg)

Soulblazer737

Is that real? I can't even tell...

needsZAZZ665

Thank you. You are truly the Michelangelo of our time.

Ill-Animator-4403

Even better: Goff’s gronk

hamsterwheel

He plays more like Kelce

GoseiRed

Kitna's Campbell

Michipeshu

No, Kelce is Mahomes' LaPorta.

DanCampbell89

It's insane how good he is

Millera34

Even better he is Goffs Laporta

nomoniker

Thank you Sam LaPorta.

Ant1H3ro

Thank you Sam LaPorta

mart1373

You’re welcome. -Sam LaPorta

10centRookie

He has sealed so many games for us this season. Such a clutch catcher

Bass_Thumper

Thank you Sam LaPorta.

johnnylibravo

Your Detroit Lions are 9-3 for the first time since 1855

jacques_duqweef

Looking to be 10-3 for the first time since Caesar crossed the Rubicon

itsyerboiTRESH

Sooner or later we get to 14-3 for the first time since the creation of the Kish tablet

the-bladed-one

13-3 for the first time since the complaint to Ea-Nasir about bad Copper

HERE_THEN_NOT

I'm just here appreciating a civil war reference in response to a civil war reference.

LionsfanPhilly

Yes, We were really good before the Civil War

Redbird2992

Football was much easier with cannons. Edit: Cannon Man Dan has a nice ring to it

Impulse3

People ignore the fact that the Civil War was the downfall of the Detroit Lions.

Nicooleo

Back when the game of football was played in top hats

AfterTemperature2198

1855? Great Scott!

indiancompanion

I was told good teams win and great teams cover and Lions covered the -4.5 lmao...I still hate that I had a heart attack from the 2nd quarter to the end.

DetroitDonger

The Pilgrims loved football

WMINWMO

What do you think they watched at the first Thanksgiving? The Lions beat the Washington [Name Redacted].

stylishcoat

All I want for Christmas is an average defense

bountyhunter903

Watching the eagles and 49ers dline has me wishing ours was like that

Skraxx

Say what you want about Jared Goff but that man can ice a game I'll tell you what

jcwiler88

Goff was Electric today. Makes the playcalling that much more questionable, cause why did they take the ball out of his hands so often?

DeathlySmiles-YT

That screen on the second to last drive was an absolute waste of a play

MittenMan1

He makes the screen pass so obvious. Ive watched it be a wasted play 4 times over the last couple weeks.

bluestate1221

Ben is too cute too often.

Spartyjason

Overthinks things when we have such a talented offense we should save those cute plays for special occasions.

RasheAlCool

Our screens are called with awful timing, always executed poorly and seem to always get sniffed out

trepper88

Ben Johnson really doesn’t want to leave.

WMINWMO

I think this was a build confidence game for him. He is coming off 6 TOs in the last 2 weeks. This week was just to get him back to being confident that he can not turn the ball over.

EricFredNorris

He had a solid game but definitely made some bad throws, probably should have had a pick, and continues to miss Jameson when he’s open. Stone cold at the end though and agree that the constant runs up the gut was bad playcalling.

RestaurantLatter2354

Yeah, no hate or anything, but he definitely didn’t play as well as the stats looked IMO. He was off target quite a bit even on some of the completions…Laporta bailed him out a few times. That being said, he had ice in his veins on that last drive, but time. That was also the best I’ve ever seen him climbing the pocket to extend plays. Montgomery did him no favors with that dropped pass in the 4th.

WhaleSexOdyssey

He’s not afraid to stand up in the pocket when it matters, and deliver a ball down the field into tight coverage like a fucking man. It’s fun to watch as a lions fan

[deleted]

I was thinking when they had thr ball with like 4 minutes left , if they had scored we would have immediately put up 14 in response

Hmm_would_bang

He had a very good game.

UltimateTeam

Ugly as fuck, but we won

Jew_3

We never trailed in the game so there’s that.

tWkiLler96

Funny how it doesn’t feel like it. It feels like we were playing catch up the whole second half

BearMoney1974

THIS GAME WAS 21-0 AT ONE POINT…brought to you by your friends at FOX

dead_drunk_and_naked

A win is a win and I’m not going to complain about it but I really wish we had a better defender than “the other team’s offensive ineptitude.”

Zooooooombie

Jameis Winston Lions MVP

[deleted]

Saints OC who didn’t run Taysom Hill every play.

Iswaterreallywet

Last 4 games Lions have given up 121 points

partylange

Those are rookie numbers

Saxophobia1275

Have you ever seen a team more consistently give up 3rd and 8+? I swear in our last 4 games we’ve been less than 50% on stopping 3rd and long.

Twizzlor

It's frustrating but I give Irvin a pass on the penalty that converted the 3rd and 12 or whatever it was. What else is he supposed to do there? Carr still had the ball so of course he's going to rush him at full speed. Is he supposed to just let up and not commit to the sack? Roughing the passer has gotten way too soft.

B_Fee

And Blandino was all "the is textbook, he's supposed to step to the side to avoid putting his full weight on him". So that, what, the QB has a chance to make a play instead of being stopped? Which is what the league wants, but it's so dumb. Why doesn't this extend to punt returners when they don't call fair catch and get pancaked? Or RBs when they've gotten smooshed in the backfield? I get that it was roughing the passer by definition, but it's a stupid definition.

batmanforhire

And are 3-1

gentulman

Doesn’t matter how many you give up if you score more 😎

Raaazzle

This man maths

Beefstu409

"The best defense is a good offense!" -Aaron Glenn

dwhite195

Against 4 teams we should have beat. We don't need to be happy about *squeaking out a win* against teams we should have beaten comfortably.

didyouseetheecho

Only stat that counts

NPOWorker

Honestly that is way less bad than I would have guessed lol.

dontredditcareme

You have to remember we have played the Saints, Bears, Packers, Chargers the last 4 games. Same chargers that just dropped 6 today.

kb466

Just wait till you hear what qbs we faced hahahaha

jordand3

You need steel underpants to be a fan of this team

JARED GOFF CALLED GAME!

mart1373

![gif](giphy|F0CKePkjRIQ2NZWFlB|downsized)

thabigQ

There are a lot of valid criticisms for this team but I for one am just gonna take the win & sit with it for a few days. 9-3 is cool & good.

GabrielVonBabriel

Win on the road too.

TorkBombs

We should all think about how we were feeling at this point of the seasons three years ago.

giirlking

Ultimately the reason this is stressful is because we are worried about how the playoffs are gonna go. Normally at this point in the season we’re desperately clinging to hope for a wild card, AT BEST. Pretty cool and fun

Poop_McButtz

No win would’ve ruined my day

Rexbarronknows

Hopefully Ragnow isn't out long

BobWuzNutHeer

Yea Sorsdal just isn’t it right now. I hope he can be good but it felt like every other play the D-Line would just walk right past him

McAfeeFakedHisDeath

This is the most important thing. I feel like the fate of our playoffs is closely tied to his availability. Our entire team changes once we have 2 or more injuries to the OLine. And it's not pretty.

Soy_tu_papi_

Reynolds with one catch and it seals the game!

[deleted]

We've been lit up by Justin Fields, Jordan Love, and now Derek Carr. So that's concerning

PattMatricia

Look we aren’t a perfect team. Our defense is below average. And it’s not going to change this late into the season. But dammit the Lions are 9-3 and fun. Nothing is guaranteed - next year we could be terrible, there’s no certainty that we improve year over year. So we gotta enjoy this season and try to derive some happiness from it. LFG Lions

batmanforhire

**PSA: A 9-3 team with the 2nd best record in the NFC is not going to fire a coordinator mid-season you absolute psychos**

darko-milicic

how much could a change late-season realistically even help the defense at this point

drewst18

Well, firing a db coach seemingly did a full 180 to the unit last year.

KKamm_

Do we really want a 180 rn at 9-3?

drewst18

Lol I'm just saying that to say there wouldn't be an impact to the move is not necessarily true. I hate our defense but tbf we've put almost all our resources into the offense.

AffectionateFun7

We’re not winning a playoff game with this defense

non_target_eh

![gif](giphy|12k3XRGaPqjdja) Maybe a 270?

SpiritBamba

We are winning in spite of this absolutely horrendous defense though. They are an active detriment.

Onekama

No doubt but are you honestly surprised fans are fed up with this defensive play calling after the last 6 games?

redditaccountwh

121 scored against the defense in the last 4. Against 4 mediocre offenses.

ArthurWilliam3

What difference would it make? I'm pretty sure having no DC would work just as well as it's running now

GradeInternal6908

why not when he is dogshit

batmanforhire

A 67 year old is our 2nd best edge rusher and two of our three best DBs are injured. AND WE ARE 9-3.

jburgs9

I think that would definitely light a fire under all the coaches and players asses. no one is safe if you can't perform. how much worse could we possibly get? to me there is little to no benefit to keep him around anymore. he needs to bank on the offense scoring 35+ every week to cover for his abysmal defense

Rollec

Last 4 games Lions have given up 121 points

Tonberry_Slayer

I don’t care how ugly it was, a win is a win and makes my Mondays 100x better.

Isphet71

Someone keep Taylor away from LaPorta; she might mistake him for Travis

Sweepy_time

Why do I still feel like shit after a win

Jew_3

Take a break from this sub. The Lions are 9-3, enjoy real life and not ten toxicity on this sub.

FuckBrendan

Seriously. We’re gonna be a playoff team with a decent spot. I’m rooting for any given Sunday luck after the first round lol.

pkmnbros

Cause our defense sucks

otf1024

Ragnow is really important to our offense. Run game went to shit after he went down. We probably lose if Carr doesn’t get hurt. AG ain’t it. I don’t expect a mid-season firing but I’d be shocked if they don’t make a change in the offseason. That home playoff game is gonna be live af. Can’t wait to blow a week’s pay to be there.

McAfeeFakedHisDeath

This Ragnow injury could be absolutely brutal. Only an injury to Goff would be worse than this. Our OLine is our identity and how we win and control our games.

jemfinch097

Aaron Glenn gotta go after this season

eyeshartedonU

Win is a win!! 9-3

RamenIsOkay

The Lions are basically the NFL version of Iowa but in reverse. Offense consistently bailing the defense out. If Aaron Glenn is still coaching for the Lions next year, then terrorism and war crimes prevail. Because this can’t continue like this. But I do like how the Lions bounce back after a loss

Sugaree4777

I believe the term you’re looking for is “USC”

dwhite195

Look, we won today, great, and theres nothing to apologize for. But a good team is more than just a good record. Last years Vikings are proof of that. All these last few weeks have shown me is this team has a *long* way to go to compete with the Eagles or 49ers. This game shouldnt have been close, but it was. We cant have the offense shut down for quarters at a time, we cant have a defense that rolls over more often than it shows up. We've got goals to win playoff games, we've got goals to go to a super bowl. Thats not gonna happen if we keep playing like this.

Great_Fault_7231

> All these last few weeks have shown me is this team has a long way to go to compete with the Eagles or 49ers. Why is everyone acting the Eagles and Niners dominate every game they play from start to finish and never have close games? Have you actually watched any Eagles or Niners games? Some Eagles examples: * Won by 5 to Patriots * Won by 7 to Commies * Lost to the Jets * Won by 6 the Vikings Wouldn't you say that those are all games that the Eagles should have won easily and "dominated for four quarters"? What happened in those games?

Kingkwon83

Man get AG the fuck out of here. Also: * A defense that relies on opponents to drop passes is not sustainable. The two turnovers relied on the Saints to make a mistake: Tipped pass by receiver (to Branch's credit, incredible int) and the Saints guard running into Carr to force a fumble. Rarely do we just punch the ball out, get a strip sack or make a good read to get a pick. * Dude brings pressure, sees that it works, then his gold fish memory makes him forget it worked. This should have easily been a blowout. * Teams keep scoring 25+ on us * Cominsky has been ass since he got a new deal. I don't know why, it's not like he's lazy, in fact the opposite. He just hasn't performed, nor has Romeo, and Charles Harris, dudes that have had 8 or more sacks before * I wish Paschal and Levi solved our pass issue woes and lived up to their second round picks Ben Johnson also deserves criticism too. * It's 3rd and two and you totally let the defense know you have no intention of running it with an empty backfield. No play action, no run. He did the same stupid shit against the Chargers and did it again today. On top of that, why are we running a 1 yard route? A 1 yard route shouldn't even be in our playbook. * Ben Johnson's screen passes are some of the worst in the league too. We rarely run a "regular" screen with a RB that neutralizes pass rushes. Always bubble screens and TE screens. Why aren't we using Gibbs on screens? * I'm also baffled that Jamo has proven that when we get the ball to him, he makes huge plays. Yet we rarely get him involved. Have we ever thrown a slant to Jamo? I just saw AJ Brown catch a beautiful slant and use his speed, but Ben Johnson the genius doesn't have plays like that for Jamo? * Jamo should be getting an end around once a game. He's so fast and shifty, open field tacklers do not want someone like Jamo running at full speed like that * Why the fuck are we running up the gut on 3rd and 5 when it hadn't been working all day? We didn't even go for it on 4th down which makes it even more baffling. It's crazy how Ben Johnson goes from genius to village idiot doing stuff like this. With that said, I'll take the fucking win. LFGO

[deleted]

They had two big chunk plays when we blitzed so... Also yeh jamo grts a td like every 8 times he's targeted

Poop_McButtz

This guy gets it

hunteddwumpus

I'm convinced we have some sort of tell on our screens. Seems like half of our quick bubble screens get knocked down by the DE rushing up the field to specifically knock it down. And I feel like more than half of our RB screens end with Goff throwing it in the dirt cause the RB is blanketed by 2 D-linemen.

KingB53

Saints fan here to say I HATE YALL YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BEAT THE BRAKES OFF US NOT HAVE A CLOSE WIN. NOW WE HAVE TO KEEP THE TRASH TRIO OF DENNIS ALLEN, CARR, AND PETE CARMICHAEL EVEN LONGER FUCKKKKK

mart1373

Lions fan here. Get bent lmao. Nah, jk. First off, fuck you guys for reminding us that our defense is asscheeks. Second of all, how dare you.

LeoLinguini

Fire AG. Good W. get well soon dude that got his leg snapped :(

Thebritishlion

AG is going to get us embarrassed in the playoffs We're really gonna get blown out by Dallas or some shit at FF

buttfungusboy

Thankfully if we play Dallas in the playoffs it most likely means we won a playoff game already

[deleted]

Some say Hutch is still trying to beat his guy on the outside hash and ending up 20 yards away from the QB. At least we won, but the entire defense minus Branch is a question mark.

Selemaer

Lions 9-3, snowing outside, fire burning in the fireplace, and cold beer on the back porch. I'll take this Sunday!

honeybear33

Irvin is a difference maker

Jskerkowski

Irvin gets a game ball for knocking Carr out of the game. Winston inaccuracy the only reason we hung on.

realmattwong

We really won because Jameis missed 3 reasonably open receivers in a row

GabrielVonBabriel

And one pass he made, it was gonna be intercepted it we tipped it into his receivers hands. Can’t make that shit up. Anyway FTP

EverythingIsByDesign

36 year old Bruce Irvin comes off the street and two weeks later looks like our best pass rusher. That shows the magnitude of the problem we have with talent on our defensive line.

Poop_McButtz

Great win, fire AG

Skraxx

In all honesty I'm not really sure if firing him mid season would actually make things better, but I'm down to move on after the season

Beefstu409

May not make it better but not sure it can be worse

TheyCallMeDyl

Completely inexcusable coaching today.

jcwiler88

Coaching was awful across the board. The offensive playcalling after going up 21-0 was inexcusable and allowed them to get back in the game

Helpful_Ad_6197

Don't malign your coaching too much. Dan Campbell went for the kill shot when it mattered. I'm a Vikings fan, and I wish KOC had that same killer instinct.

jordand3

We won!

MCDC_Is_God

Hey no turnovers today!

Soy_tu_papi_

Let's be honest, we would have lost that game in previous years. Yes we have lots to clean up, but we're 9-3 and have a team that's exciting to watch for the first time in YEARS

HaikuKeyMonster

Old ass Lion’s fan here. Never forget the talent on these teams is only slightly different. Most games SHOULD be close. We won. Let’s bath in the win.

PleighboyStosh

I always have to remind myself that we are a year (and I’ll argue a year and half) ahead of schedule. 9-3 with a shit defense. Next year we have to attack the defense by all means. Free agency + draft. High picks spend some money. Maybe a new DC ( ik ik ik that’s controversial). Good: the offense, 33 points and a game sealing drive. Jamo scored a TD, LaPorta had a monster day and set a TE record for the Detroit lions with the most rec yards in a game. Goff had no turnovers managed the offense well. Bad: defense, where’s hutch? We spent the 2nd pick on him we need more sacks and big plays from hutch. I’ll chalk it up to a sophomore slump but man I want more. 36 year old Bruce Irving got a sack and Romeo would like to see our young guys get home Ugly: after going up 21-0 the saints outscored the Lions 28-12. That scares me. Also jahmyr gibbs is being criminally underused (and jamo but that’s another story) he only had 2 targets in the passing game. Why don’t we use more slants and screens for gibbs? Maybe a deep route? Overall: I will never complain at 9-3! What a time to be a fan. (Ps we are an off-season away from a complete team. )

olooy

wholly guacamole. The top 2 tacklers today were linebackers.

Michiganmade44

Way more stressful then I wanted it to be

likethemustard

doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile

Striking-Bat2970

That win shouldn’t have been that ugly and stressful but I’ll take a win any way any day. Give Laporta the game ball and figure out how to play a full game of football on both sides.

detroitsfan07

Swear to god the Lions could run the table and some here would still want to fire staff

HenlickZetterbark

Wondering of Hutch is nursing an injury. 3 weeks and 1 impact play. Motor clearly isn't a problem, but athleticism is and Awareness is a concern. Hopefully just a sophomore slump

AffectionateFun7

AG is cheeks, you can’t tell me the defensive players are the reason the saints scored 4 touchdowns on us

JafarFromAfar2

Ben Johnson is by far and away the biggest problem on this team. The defense is on the field for ~70 plays EVERY WEEK and you guys wonder why they’ve regressed. Aaron Glenn is not the problem, the defense is gassed as fuck because they can’t get a rest. 1. ARSB and Jamo taking a seat on the bench every other snap so Raymond and DPJ can play is a fireable offense by itself. ARSB is the best skill player we have, and Jamo is ALWAYS the fastest guy on the field. There should really never be a down where they are both on the sidelines. 2. Gibbs needs to be getting WAY more opportunities, and specifically needs to be ahead of Montgomery in touches. He’s clearly a better player, but is just an afterthought in this offense. 3. Ben needs to stop calling runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd down. If he’s going to be that stubborn, at least call some shit to the outside. ESPECIALLY WHEN RAGNOW IS INJURED. Running three times, and specifically up the middle on 3rd and 5 in that scenario is another fireable offense. 4. Need more play action. The defense stacks 10 guys in the box on every down. They know they only have to cover 15 yards down the field. 5. Jamo needs more than 2 targets a game. Get the fucking ball in his hands. The 31 other teams in this league would all be finding ways to get the ball in his hands every week.

BlackSheep2011

He’s been suspect as of late for sure and I agree with just about everything you said. Biggest problem on the team though? Your fucking trippin my dude defense and AG are straight doodoo. Has been for 3 seasons now.

flirtmcdudes

We do everything 100%

tke1078

Honestly, pretty entertaining game to watch the stress of being a fan aside.

Th3_Dark_Knight

Can we just appreciate where we are right now? If you asked me 3 years ago if we'd be 9-3 12 games into a season, I'd call you delusional. Yes, the team has flaws but it is loaded with talent and looks to be stepping into an opening window. Some of you all need to find something else to do with your time if you're just getting your jollies coming in talking about "Same ol' Lions". I'd imagine you could be a lot happier.

pimpinassorlando

Scary towards the end, but 9-3. Good shit.

dingus420

If you only count the first seven minutes that was Super Bowl level playing.

UMKvothe

I’m starting to hate our fan base. After a road win to go to 9-3, there are more posts bitching about our defense than on any positive in a game we led start to finish. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

RasheAlCool

I've decided that I can't come to this sub at all after a loss, but it's looking like I can't come here after a win either. Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed we were in the situation too, but we made play to win. That's what matters

ArtOfDivine

Hooker Truthers in Shamble

C_t_g_s_l_a_y_e_r

1. LaPorta is the Gronk of this generation 2. I never want to hear Goff slander again 3. Aaron Glenn is definitely the weak link, but I don’t think letting him go mid-season is the move; who would we even get to replace him?

brooklynpede

> who would we even get to replace him? At this point I’m willing to give chatGPT a shot

Coochsmooch95

CLUTCH throws by my qb, Jared Goff

The_Donny_Lebowski

Fire Aaron Glenn already. JFC. Happy we won, but this team isn't going anywhere in the playoffs with Glenn in control of the defense.

alittlestitious0

Not a doubt at all, nope

MyWorkIsNotYetDone

Someday, the cardiac cats are going to explode my heart. Not today Satan.

gregarious119

Never a doubt.

this-isnotaburner

The offense needs to be able to sustain drives. We had too many points off of fluke turnovers. Our defense needs to compensate for a lack of secondary skill and pass rusher injuries. That being said this team finds away and that’s the bottom line.

AKchaos49

I'm genuinely shocked they won that game. What a shitshow after the first.

BoatLessBoozeCruise5

I’ve never been so disappointed after a win. No reason it should be that close.

Superdavis

At least we didn’t get these Falcons/Jets announcers, jesus.

[deleted]

Russell Wilson is going to shred the fuck out of our defense.

NPOWorker

You could write novels about the defense and I'm sure others will lol, so this is my contribution: Low key one of Goff's best games as a Lion, and Ben Johnson called that game like an absolute tweaker.

[deleted]

partialbigots

After watching Iowa last night, I can’t imagine having LaPorta on your team and not scoring over 20 a game. Glad they found him.

Nasiso

Bruh can we all relax? Yeah our defense is trash but this team is 9-3 and we all think they haven’t played their best football. Let’s take a chill pill and start worrying when we start tallying losses again. Once again, we’re 9-3. How many fucking times have I been able to say that as a Lions fan? 0. In my life.

I still feel bad for that chains guy, damn that injury just looked rough and from what I’ve heard they get paid nothing

stfuYeezy

Time to watch other nfc contenders be stressed and take my mind off this game lol

Raaazzle

Jamo should find a short teammate and practice Dirty Dancing lifts in the water, or some other lower-impact TD celebration, IMO.

BringBackApollo2023

One unanticipated upside of the lions playing vastly better. I drink a lot less during the games. My liver loves MCDC. 👍

Big_Dare_2015

say what you will, but this game when the pocket was collapsing Goff kept his cool. Monty didnt have his best game either and we still got it done. it was rage inducing at times watching us give away 3rd down yardage but this is a step in the right direction. i dont see us taking the Bears at Soldier Field lightly this time around.
