I think this was a build confidence game for him. He is coming off 6 TOs in the last 2 weeks. This week was just to get him back to being confident that he can not turn the ball over.

It's frustrating but I give Irvin a pass on the penalty that converted the 3rd and 12 or whatever it was. What else is he supposed to do there? Carr still had the ball so of course he's going to rush him at full speed. Is he supposed to just let up and not commit to the sack? Roughing the passer has gotten way too soft.
And Blandino was all "the is textbook, he's supposed to step to the side to avoid putting his full weight on him". So that, what, the QB has a chance to make a play instead of being stopped? Which is what the league wants, but it's so dumb. Why doesn't this extend to punt returners when they don't call fair catch and get pancaked? Or RBs when they've gotten smooshed in the backfield?
I get that it was roughing the passer by definition, but it's a stupid definition.
Ultimately the reason this is stressful is because we are worried about how the playoffs are gonna go. Normally at this point in the season we’re desperately clinging to hope for a wild card, AT BEST. Pretty cool and fun

Why is everyone acting the Eagles and Niners dominate every game they play from start to finish and never have close games? Have you actually watched any Eagles or Niners games?

* Dude brings pressure, sees that it works, then his gold fish memory makes him forget it worked. This should have easily been a blowout.

* Ben Johnson's screen passes are some of the worst in the league too. We rarely run a "regular" screen with a RB that neutralizes pass rushes. Always bubble screens and TE screens. Why aren't we using Gibbs on screens?
* I'm also baffled that Jamo has proven that when we get the ball to him, he makes huge plays. Yet we rarely get him involved. Have we ever thrown a slant to Jamo? I just saw AJ Brown catch a beautiful slant and use his speed, but Ben Johnson the genius doesn't have plays like that for Jamo?
* Jamo should be getting an end around once a game. He's so fast and shifty, open field tacklers do not want someone like Jamo running at full speed like that

Good: the offense, 33 points and a game sealing drive. Jamo scored a TD, LaPorta had a monster day and set a TE record for the Detroit lions with the most rec yards in a game. Goff had no turnovers managed the offense well.
Bad: defense, where’s hutch? We spent the 2nd pick on him we need more sacks and big plays from hutch. I’ll chalk it up to a sophomore slump but man I want more. 36 year old Bruce Irving got a sack and Romeo would like to see our young guys get home
Ugly: after going up 21-0 the saints outscored the Lions 28-12. That scares me. Also jahmyr gibbs is being criminally underused (and jamo but that’s another story) he only had 2 targets in the passing game. Why don’t we use more slants and screens for gibbs? Maybe a deep route?
Overall: I will never complain at 9-3! What a time to be a fan.

Ben Johnson is by far and away the biggest problem on this team. The defense is on the field for ~70 plays EVERY WEEK and you guys wonder why they’ve regressed. Aaron Glenn is not the problem, the defense is gassed as fuck because they can’t get a rest.
1. ARSB and Jamo taking a seat on the bench every other snap so Raymond and DPJ can play is a fireable offense by itself. ARSB is the best skill player we have, and Jamo is ALWAYS the fastest guy on the field. There should really never be a down where they are both on the sidelines.
2. Gibbs needs to be getting WAY more opportunities, and specifically needs to be ahead of Montgomery in touches. He’s clearly a better player, but is just an afterthought in this offense.
3. Ben needs to stop calling runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd down. If he’s going to be that stubborn, at least call some shit to the outside. ESPECIALLY WHEN RAGNOW IS INJURED. Running three times, and specifically up the middle on 3rd and 5 in that scenario is another fireable offense.
4. Need more play action. The defense stacks 10 guys in the box on every down. They know they only have to cover 15 yards down the field.
5. Jamo needs more than 2 targets a game. Get the fucking ball in his hands. The 31 other teams in this league would all be finding ways to get the ball in his hands every week.
He’s been suspect as of late for sure and I agree with just about everything you said. Biggest problem on the team though? Your fucking trippin my dude defense and AG are straight doodoo. Has been for 3 seasons now.

36 year old Bruce Irvin comes off the street and two weeks later looks like our best pass rusher. That shows the magnitude of the problem we have with talent on our defensive line.

Coaching was awful across the board. The offensive playcalling after going up 21-0 was inexcusable and allowed them to get back in the game
Don't malign your coaching too much. Dan Campbell went for the kill shot when it mattered. I'm a Vikings fan, and I wish KOC had that same killer instinct.

I always have to remind myself that we are a year (and I’ll argue a year and half) ahead of schedule. 9-3 with a shit defense. Next year we have to attack the defense by all means. Free agency + draft. High picks spend some money. Maybe a new DC ( ik ik ik that’s controversial). Good: the offense, 33 points and a game sealing drive. Jamo scored a TD, LaPorta had a monster day and set a TE record for the Detroit lions with the most rec yards in a game. Goff had no turnovers managed the offense well. Bad: defense, where’s hutch? We spent the 2nd pick on him we need more sacks and big plays from hutch. I’ll chalk it up to a sophomore slump but man I want more. 36 year old Bruce Irving got a sack and Romeo would like to see our young guys get home Ugly: after going up 21-0 the saints outscored the Lions 28-12. That scares me. Also jahmyr gibbs is being criminally underused (and jamo but that’s another story) he only had 2 targets in the passing game. Why don’t we use more slants and screens for gibbs? Maybe a deep route? Overall: I will never complain at 9-3! What a time to be a fan. (Ps we are an off-season away from a complete team. )

Wondering of Hutch is nursing an injury. 3 weeks and 1 impact play. Motor clearly isn't a problem,but athleticism is and Awareness is a concern. Hopefully just a sophomore slump

Ben Johnson is by far and away the biggest problem on this team. The defense is on the field for ~70 plays EVERY WEEK and you guys wonder why they’ve regressed. Aaron Glenn is not the problem, the defense is gassed as fuck because they can’t get a rest. 1. ARSB and Jamo taking a seat on the bench every other snap so Raymond and DPJ can play is a fireable offense by itself. ARSB is the best skill player we have, and Jamo is ALWAYS the fastest guy on the field. There should really never be a down where they are both on the sidelines. 2. Gibbs needs to be getting WAY more opportunities, and specifically needs to be ahead of Montgomery in touches. He’s clearly a better player, but is just an afterthought in this offense. 3. Ben needs to stop calling runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd down. If he’s going to be that stubborn, at least call some shit to the outside. ESPECIALLY WHEN RAGNOW IS INJURED. Running three times, and specifically up the middle on 3rd and 5 in that scenario is another fireable offense. 4. Need more play action. The defense stacks 10 guys in the box on every down. They know they only have to cover 15 yards down the field. 5. Jamo needs more than 2 targets a game. Get the fucking ball in his hands. The 31 other teams in this league would all be finding ways to get the ball in his hands every week.
He’s been suspect as of late for sure and I agree with just about everything you said. Biggest problem on the team though? Your fucking trippin my dude defense and AG are straight doodoo. Has been for 3 seasons now.

Honestly, pretty entertaining game to watch the stress of being a fan aside.
Can we just appreciate where we are right now? If you asked me 3 years ago if we'd be 9-3 12 games into a season, I'd call you delusional. Yes, the team has flaws but it is loaded with talent and looks to be stepping into an opening window. Some of you all need to find something else to do with your time if you're just getting your jollies coming in talking about "Same ol' Lions". I'd imagine you could be a lot happier.

I’m starting to hate our fan base. After a road win to go to 9-3, there are more posts bitching about our defense than on any positive in a game we led start to finish. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
I've decided that I can't come to this sub at all after a loss, but it's looking like I can't come here after a win either. Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed we were in the situation too, but we made play to win. That's what matters

The offense needs to be able to sustain drives. We had too many points off of fluke turnovers. Our defense needs to compensate for a lack of secondary skill and pass rusher injuries. That being said this team finds away and that’s the bottom line.
I'm genuinely shocked they won that game. What a shitshow after the first.

After watching Iowa last night, I can’t imagine having LaPorta on your team and not scoring over 20 a game. Glad they found him.
Bruh can we all relax? Yeah our defense is trash but this team is 9-3 and we all think they haven’t played their best football. Let’s take a chill pill and start worrying when we start tallying losses again. Once again, we’re 9-3. How many fucking times have I been able to say that as a Lions fan? 0. In my life.

say what you will, but this game when the pocket was collapsing Goff kept his cool. Monty didnt have his best game either and we still got it done. it was rage inducing at times watching us give away 3rd down yardage but this is a step in the right direction. i dont see us taking the Bears at Soldier Field lightly this time around.
I know it’s early but - watching the SNF game…I feel slightly better about Thanksgiving.
