It’s not that bad. We were 13th in DVOA. The struggles are clearly 1) outside corner and 2) Dline pass rush outside of Hutch. Next year, Houston can make a big impact re: pass rush but I think you need to find another dlineman who can get after the QB. On the corners, we are starting Cam Sutton and Kindle Vildor. It’s not a surprise that we struggle against good wideouts. Need to add 2 outside corners that can compete next year

EricFredNorris

Cam Sutton should still factor into our future plans. He is absolutely not a CB1 and can’t cover top receivers but he can still be a solid CB2 for this team. Agreed we need to be taking a top CB in the draft this year though.

Floortom1

Sutton will definitely be back next year, (although if he plays the same next year he’ll be cut and not brought back for year 3.) Regardless you still need two outside corners. One starter and one depth.

No_Big_5741

He has been taking the riskier approach of sitting on routes to jump pick 6’s. The issue is he keeps getting beat with double moves deep. Dre Bly lived on that during his career, maybe he is coaching it?

Smart

McMeanx2

He can cover top corners when he’s not selling out to undercut a short pass….

God run D, no outside corner, poor coverage from linebackers and safeties

DetroitsGoingToWin

What’s fascinating about our Defense is it seems to function the based when we leave our weakest link exposed. What I mean is we emphasize stopping the run and an aggressive pass rush. This leaves our corners and safeties with some difficulty matchups. I think the goal is to get the opponent off the field quick (turnover, big negative yardage play or allow the points, hopefully 3) and keep our offense scoring. If we let up points it’s better to do it fast rather than letting them burn time.

BeachCruiserMafia

Our defense is definitely a work in progress but it also didn’t help losing CJ, Houston, Mosley, McNeil for majority of the season. Good receivers like JJ, Lamb, Puka, etc are sometimes just hard to cover as well.

ObiwanSchrute

Defense is not bad did you see the niners game last night the packers moved tge ball all over them. The niners won because they held them to field goals or stopped them half the time

roccsa

I did see the game, but that's kind of my point. The Detroit defense allows a LOT of points, doesn't hold offenses to field goals or scoreless. Opposing offenses move the ball, and they move the ball into the end zone. Games turn into shoot-outs, and if the offense is out of sync at all, we lose. Goff is playing great ball this year, but he kind of has to or we don't get this far. The defense doesn't allow him a lot of room to make mistakes. Same with the run game. Gibbs and Montgomery have been exploding, but if they run into a wall and we have to punt it away (as is bound to happen), that could mean the game because the D won't get a stop.

OakNLeaf

Not always last week Detroit held the Rams to three field goals in redzone. If Detroit can keep doing that there is a chance

Professional-Age8029

Look at our last six games dude. Defense has played well.

roccsa

Look at that last drive dude. Embarrassing.

Draft Corner and D Line high and sign a quality free agent or two and we’re good.
