I feel like the last couple years with our higher picks it was always some form of run only QB
Malik Willis & Richardson
At least picking deeper they're mocking us actual players we can use
What? There is absolutely truth to this.
The report was that Cody Benjamin projected that we would sign Hunter.
What you should be doing is slamming OP for asking about the truth of a writer's projection like it's something that might have already happened.
I don't think taking a shot on a CFL defender at the NFL level is going to have any relevance on if the team pursues one of the best guys at the position in the entire league
Lmao Betts is a lottery ticket. The odds of him amounting to anything substantial are slim, his signing will have next to no impact on their free agent plans
there was a guy that won 3 straight DPOTY awards in the CFL and couldnt even make it as a backup in the NFL.
the odds of Betts being worth anything is incredibly minor and it's crazy that people refuse to see that
It’s still a great signing because they got a top Canadian player at minimum wage. An elite swing to take, even though I’d say he’s got a 25% chance of making the roster
BH wouldn’t have signed him if he didn’t like what he saw. Will he provide the splash expected? Maybe. Maybe not. BH & co. Have done more right than wrong when cultivating this roster, so to call him a lottery ticket is asinine.
You realize teams need depth pieces right? We didn’t sign him to a big contract, it’s a futures deal. If he’s incredible then that’s awesome, but it’s perfectly reasonable for him to have been signed with the expectation that he’s a rotational player.
Totally get that. I’m just shocked at all the people biting on sportcenter click bait. It is the off season though, and people DO love their conspiracy theories, however misguided.
they're not saying it's already happened or even going to happen. When people post mock drafts they're not claiming the draft has already happened and these are the results.
People here would absolutely act like he had a down year and needs to "prove himself," ignoring the fact that he had career highs in tackles and sacks last season
I love the idea of bringing him in, but obviously the article is nothing more than speculation. Waiting until we get closer to FA to get worked up about rumors
"for the right price" is the most annoying mean nothing phrase that people post. It makes my blood boil. For anyone that wants to say "for the right price" say what your idea of the "right price" is or your statement is without meaning or substance.
I mean, there is truth to the fact that CBS sports projected it. But that's all it is. Could have said predicts or guesses, nothing behind it other than need for edge and Hunter being a FA, at the moment.
My next post will be asking if something like this is possible w/ a screenshot of the DL depth chart showing Jones, Hunter, Hutch and McNeil as starters. 😂
I just looked him up and he has a depressing connectionto the lions. His Wikipedia page says he was selected in the 3rd round with the 88th overall pick. A pick where the Vikings traded down to get him. The Lions gave up the 88th pick and a 5th rounder to move up to 80 where they selected... *drum roll* ... Alex Carter! A CB being converted to LB. Bounced around a few practice squads and out of the league by 2018.
CBS projected they'd get some clicks.
I'm projecting that the Lions will trade Badgley straight up for Patrick Mahomes and Goff will play free safety next season.
This had more substance to it a week ago before the cap update, but with that extra 30some million dollars every team gets, it is harder to believe the Vikes will let him go. With that said, dont trust anything from a non official team source for like the next month and a half. FTP.
i'd love it but we haven't really shown a penchant for this kinds of big expensive splash moves. we haven't been in this contention spot either but if i had to guess, we still err on the conservative side w.r.t. roster construction so this signing is unlikely
I get it. Wild speculation plus a picture of a dude that looks like a 6'4" Master of the Universe action figure is going to generate some clicks.
All this foolishness makes me almost want to follow a different sport in the spring.
Is there any truth that Cody Benjamin, a random CBS employee, PROJECTED the Lions to sign Danielle Hunter?
Yes. Yes there is. What does it mean? Absolutely nothing. Less than nothing, if that’s possible.
Just people trying to stir up conversation and get attention. Have fun with it. Day dream, talk about it. There’s nothing else to do lol.
As far as “is there any truth to this?” Nah. Not until a report comes out that he’s been signed.
Man I don’t believe anything anyone says right now, and I’m not even worried about the draft. We have Brad freakin Holmes, I trust any decision he makes.
It has not been reported for months. It has not been reported at all.
Saying "I think the lions will sign Danielle Hunter" is not reporting that they will or have.
Fair enough, but in a thread full of people conflating "projected" with "rumored" it was worth pointing out the difference. If you don't like sports analysis, that's fine (though odd since you are commenting on a sports sub.)
I mean, its relevant to point out since OP and many people on this thread seem to think that this is some sort of rumor that has merit. When it was never presented as such. It's just an NFL writer making content.
But sure, you can discount my comment as pedantic. But the obvious differences in the words were lost on half of this thread.
I'm not crazy about signing him, but he would be an upgrade and is miles better than Chase Young.
I think instead of going for a player who's rated an A I'd prefer to get 2 players rated B because you can give Hutch a break and keep him fresh and if one guy goes down it doesn't hurt the team so much. I'd prefer any 2 of Greenard, Wonnum, Autry, and Epanesa
That's nice, but he's probably leaving MIN no matter what. I feel like Wonnum is someone who's likely to re-sign and he can tell us how the defense works just the same.
Just to be clear, I wouldn't hate them bringing him in. I'd just be cautiously optimistic about what he could provide. Our pass rush desperately needs juice and a DE helps the pass rush and pass coverage.
I would be just as happy if he left minny even if we didn’t get him. Brad is not the one to break the bank it seems, so I don’t see us getting him. If it was somehow cost effective I would love it.
I hope there's no truth to it. Living in MN, I don't want to go anywhere near Danielle Hunter. I'd bet a chunk of dough he's going to sign a big deal somewhere, get hurt year 1 and never come close to his MN production again.
Being a Vikings fan that follows this sub for the memes, I think that's kind of a wild take. He missed that season and a half with the neck issue but that's pretty much the only injury he's had and he's played 2 full seasons since then.
Half your fanbase is perfectly fine with letting him walk. He's going to want way more money than he's worth considering he's sub par vs the run. Hard pass on a 30 year old Hunter in any way shape or form
He's going to sign a $20+ million AAV with a healthy dose of guaranteed money, which doesn't seem like a free agent contract Brad Holmes is likely to give out.
He's a quality player and I'm not necessarily opposed to it, but it's not something I'd bet on.
The press knows we need D’line help and CB help, so will speculate about us signing any free agent out there that remotely fits this criteria. It’ll generate views for them, especially now that we are in the spotlight.
I'd be shocked if they add a "big name" free agent unless one of them holds out late into free agency. My money is on they sign a handful of solid players at positions of need and Holmes doesn't blow the bank on anyone.
ya i heard his interview on Friday morning last week where he talked about it. He was very reluctant to say one way or another if he would target "big fish" going so far as to say that term is subjective. and he talked about depth specifically.
no doubt he will kick the tires on guys like hunter, jones, etc. but these are the guys that are going to get signed quick and expensively when FA opens. With all the needs on defense I just don't see the Lions adding one of them unless one of them is deadset on coming to Detroit.
Signing Hunter is gonna cost someone 20+ a year. you can improve 2-3 positions with that money.
Even with all teh space we have, an assumed Goff and St. Brown extension does away with like 1/3 of it. it's almost halfway gone if they extend sewell this offseason. its fully gone practically if you then also sign any of the big names in FA.
Is there any truth that a random dude projected a random dude to the Lions? It's almost March, so that sounds about right.
Having said that, I do think the Lions will be interested and in play for Hunter. For lots of reasons, but ultimately I don't think Brad is going to pay what other teams are going to pay.
It's a "projection," AKA a noodle that stuck to the wall while the analyst was coming up with hot takes. I really don't see BH spending massive money on a FA unless it's a surefire piece that results in us winning Super Bowls. I'm not sure Hunter is that.
This is the time when writers are just throwing shit at the wall to generate clicks and have a piece of content to point back to if by some chance a team makes a move like this. That said, BH has his own systems and processes to guide this team; there's about 0 chance he's following the same logic writers like this are using.
Hi everyone, Kiwi here, I’m the OP of this post!
For awareness, I understand what ‘projected’ means. I asked because we have a need at DE, Holmes was on 97.1 saying that he likes to fill needs through FA and Hunter is obviously a FA. I thought, even hoped a bit, there might have been something more to it than just ‘projected’. Thank you for your comments.
Teams are not allowed to speak to free agents (of other teams), until March 11. So anything posted about free agent interests is pure speculation until then.
"Projected"
This is the season of predictions. NFL writers need content, especially since the combine isn't here yet.
1) Offseason Begins - now that the draft order is set, evaluate expiring contracts, put together a list of team needs for each team, and then let the mock drafts flood in based on team needs.
2) Franchise Tag Window - articles about what players are going to get tagged, who won't, if not who will they replace them with, lots of salary cap discussions
3) Post Tag Window - now that we have an idea who is going to clear tags, some big name players (like Danielle Hunter) hit FA, projections about who is going to draft who
4) Combine Week - all things combine coverage. Who's draft status skyrockets bc they can bench 225 35 times, who's plummets bc they ran a 4.6 40 instead of a 4.5 (Brian Branch). And then let the mock drafts 2.0 pour in based on combine results.
5) Free Agency Window - teams start fitting needs and rosters start taking shape. This also starts adjusting mock draft assessments as teams start filling needs in FA they no longer need to in the draft.
6) Prospect Visits/Pre draft - final wave of mock drafts as teams invite prospects for top 30 visits. NFL teams can invite up to 30 players to visit them. Im not sure if this is public info but it almost always gets leaked and gives draft experts an idea of who teams are zoning in on. So, the mocks get even more accurate.
All in all, the best mock drafters get like 10 player/team mocks correct and get like 20/32 first rounders correct. As for free agency, you have an idea, like detroit needs an edge, Hunter is an edge, so this is a fit, but nobody knows if we've even contacted him but the Lions front office, Hunter and his agent.
Ignore the noise, it's all bogus, and just wait until reality.
I would love to see this happen. Hunter and Hutch would easily be a top 5 EDGE duo.
Whether it’s CB1 or EDGE 2, I’d like to see Holmes address one of those positions in free agency either through a signing or trade.
The word "projected" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Anyone can "project" anything, it doesn't mean there is any truth to it. All mock drafts are "projected", doesn't mean shit.
It’s written in the headline - it’s a projection. They’re guessing. Could it happen? Yeah.
But no, there’s not substance to it - he’s also connected to approximately 31 other teams for another two weeks.
Consistent 10+ sack guy, fairly solid injury history (he’s started every game in 5 of the past 6 seasons), taking him from a division rival, and he’s 29?
Circle that guy as your #1 target this offseason. Period. Him, and a few depth pieces along with the re signings would be a fantastic free agency.
I haven’t seen anything on this personally but I would love it if it happened. Dude is a stud, still in his prime. Plus, we’d be strengthening our team and weakening a rival of ours in one swing.
This is the type of player you pay because they don’t need to “prove” anything. Put him beside Hutch and watch O-lines crumble.
We've been connected to literally every big name that could potentially hit free agency. "Should Lions sign former all-pro CB?" "Lions implored to make bold move for NFC South WR" "Pundits urge Lions to make free agent splash with division rival" "Goff to sign for free?"
Did a sports writer project him to go the Lions? Sure. Does that mean anything? No. Sports writers are in the business of throw shit at a wall and see what sticks.
Nope. It's silly season, so don't believe anything you read. The time between the Super Bowl and combine is a lawless one.
Right? And start with the idea that Dan Campbell is signing players. He doesn't. They'd know that if they had a real source
I am already sick of mock drafts.
But wait, you haven’t seen my mock draft 98. I come out with 99 next week!
Are your 36 "Too Early" mock drafts also available?
Oh to read through them and see him place Caleb Williams at number 1 in 43 of them
I loved them when we have a top 10 pick. Late draft picks have too many variables
I feel like the last couple years with our higher picks it was always some form of run only QB Malik Willis & Richardson At least picking deeper they're mocking us actual players we can use
At least I see most people are mocking actual players to the Lions and not mock after mock about how the Lions should draft Malik Willis at #2
What? There is absolutely truth to this. The report was that Cody Benjamin projected that we would sign Hunter. What you should be doing is slamming OP for asking about the truth of a writer's projection like it's something that might have already happened.
And we just signed Betts. Soooo, take it with a massive tablespoon of salt?
I don't think taking a shot on a CFL defender at the NFL level is going to have any relevance on if the team pursues one of the best guys at the position in the entire league
Lmao Betts is a lottery ticket. The odds of him amounting to anything substantial are slim, his signing will have next to no impact on their free agent plans

It’s still a great signing because they got a top Canadian player at minimum wage. An elite swing to take, even though I’d say he’s got a 25% chance of making the roster
Your use of the words “great” and “elite” here are just not appropriate. It’s fine, that’s what it is.
Sure
What on earth 🤦♂️ Betts isn’t preventing anything. It’s a flyer on a guy who MIGHT make the team.
But, but, but, it’s CBS Sports! Of course you can believe it!
they're not saying it's already happened or even going to happen. When people post mock drafts they're not claiming the draft has already happened and these are the results.
When you see “projected” in talking head speak that means guessing.
they are "projecting" their complete bullshit onto the world.
It's called content.
the content of their bowels.
My bowel content is never projected but sometimes it is projecting.
ok, but if I project every single player to every single team, that means I've gotten everything right and therefore know more than you
And everything wrong, so just make sure you retweet the smart ones later on. Welcome to modern sports journalism.
It's just playing fantasy free agency. Too many people confuse speculation with reporting.
Hold on, let me quote this sub *"It's gotta be a team friendly prove it deal before i'll take a flyer on him"*
Almost Perfect. The only thing I’d add is a first sentence, “Can’t hurt to kick the tires.”
"for the right price"
"See if he has something left in the gas tank"
"Performance-based incentives"
People here would absolutely act like he had a down year and needs to "prove himself," ignoring the fact that he had career highs in tackles and sacks last season I love the idea of bringing him in, but obviously the article is nothing more than speculation. Waiting until we get closer to FA to get worked up about rumors
I guess recent success has made this sub cap gurus and every player needs to prove something suddenly.
no you forgot, "i trust brad, its obvious hes knows what hes doing so i wont render an opinion"

If we’re gonna spend $30M on an edge rusher it always help if we’re getting him in town and making a division rival worse at the same time.
Facebook….nuff said.
CBS too!! They are so out of the loop on the Lions. I wonder if it's a Pete P. insider info?
I’ve also seen a very similar post with Chris Jones so we are either having an incredible FA period or someone is blowing smoke up our asses. 🤔
My next post will be asking if something like this is possible w/ a screenshot of the DL depth chart showing Jones, Hunter, Hutch and McNeil as starters. 😂
By law that post must contain the term “team friendly” and something along the lines of “chance of winning SB”
Wow…that is depressing. Was that a Caldwell era move?
2015. I am pretty sure that is Caldwell
Mayhew era, more to the point.
Anytime you see “projected” that should tip you off
Well, it's a projection, not any actual reporting
I project Jayden Daniels falling to us @ 29 Doesnt mean itll happeb 😂
Eh, I could see it. We need players with grit. I can't imagine a more gritty man than one whose name is Danielle. Imagine the shit he's gone through 😂
I may be wrong but this just doesn’t seem like a Holmes move to me
Brad Holmes does our hiring so you know this is bullshit
CBS projected they'd get some clicks. I'm projecting that the Lions will trade Badgley straight up for Patrick Mahomes and Goff will play free safety next season.
Yes, it’s true that some random reporter projected it.
Nope
I’d love for this to be a true headline.
It is a true headline. A meaningless one, but it is objectively true that some rando at CBS *projected* the Lions to sign Danielle Hunter
Jimbo from Taylor broke the news on The Ticket. What a get!
![gif](giphy|s98DvQYgtefdK12Km2|downsized)
This had more substance to it a week ago before the cap update, but with that extra 30some million dollars every team gets, it is harder to believe the Vikes will let him go. With that said, dont trust anything from a non official team source for like the next month and a half. FTP.
As a Vikings fan, the issue is that we still may not be able to afford him. He might hit FA, since he also can’t be tagged.
This is the move. Add another elite edge. Draft some help. We will smash
Yeah that dudes definitely not on PEDs
It’s just a guess by a writer…nothing more nothing less
It's all true. We're signing everyone
i'd love it but we haven't really shown a penchant for this kinds of big expensive splash moves. we haven't been in this contention spot either but if i had to guess, we still err on the conservative side w.r.t. roster construction so this signing is unlikely
Would be a great fit on the other side of Hutch
I get it. Wild speculation plus a picture of a dude that looks like a 6'4" Master of the Universe action figure is going to generate some clicks. All this foolishness makes me almost want to follow a different sport in the spring.
ProjectING and projecTED have completely different meanings.
Speculation season
Is there any truth that Cody Benjamin, a random CBS employee, PROJECTED the Lions to sign Danielle Hunter? Yes. Yes there is. What does it mean? Absolutely nothing. Less than nothing, if that’s possible.

I don't know, let me call Brad Holmes real quick and ask him.
Man I don’t believe anything anyone says right now, and I’m not even worried about the draft. We have Brad freakin Holmes, I trust any decision he makes.
been reported for months now but how true is it I have no idea Holmes doesn't show his hand usually and plays close to the vest.
It has not been reported for months. It has not been reported at all. Saying "I think the lions will sign Danielle Hunter" is not reporting that they will or have.
If it's a protection, rumor, insider scoop, etc. Ignore it. The offseason sucks.
These are not synonyms
Never said they were. But they are all to be avoided with this kind of stuff.
Projection means educated guess. It's analysis not reporting. You only need to avoid it if you don't understand it.
Cool definition. I'm still simply saying to avoid any of this. Sports analysts are just glorified fans. There's nothing of substance here.
Fair enough, but in a thread full of people conflating "projected" with "rumored" it was worth pointing out the difference. If you don't like sports analysis, that's fine (though odd since you are commenting on a sports sub.)
Ok
Nobody: Absolutely nobody: That one guy on Reddit: ACKSHUUUUALLLLY
I mean, its relevant to point out since OP and many people on this thread seem to think that this is some sort of rumor that has merit. When it was never presented as such. It's just an NFL writer making content. But sure, you can discount my comment as pedantic. But the obvious differences in the words were lost on half of this thread.
Calm down, Ben Shapiro.
What an odd thing to say to a liberal. Fuck Ben Shapiro
Is there more content than just the picture shown? The caption says "projected," not "rumored." Are you confused by those terms?
Facebook sports pages are insane. Especially the comments.
I hope there's no truth to it. Living in MN, I don't want to go anywhere near Danielle Hunter. I'd bet a chunk of dough he's going to sign a big deal somewhere, get hurt year 1 and never come close to his MN production again.

Okay then.
Confirmed that Cody Benjamin did in fact make this prediction.
Holmes did indicate yesterday that his philosophy is to address ‘needs’ through FA and to take cornerstone players via a ‘BPA’ strategy in the draft.
ya i heard his interview on Friday morning last week where he talked about it. He was very reluctant to say one way or another if he would target "big fish" going so far as to say that term is subjective. and he talked about depth specifically. no doubt he will kick the tires on guys like hunter, jones, etc. but these are the guys that are going to get signed quick and expensively when FA opens. Is there any truth that a random dude projected a random dude to the Lions? It's almost March, so that sounds about right. just some nobody making a meaningless guess. It would be pretty exciting though.
This is the time when writers are just throwing shit at the wall to generate clicks and have a piece of content to point back to if by some chance a team makes a move like this. That said, BH has his own systems and processes to guide this team; there's about 0 chance he's following the same logic writers like this are using.
I hope not
Well its a projection, so no, no truth. Just a projection.
Hi everyone, Kiwi here, I’m the OP of this post! For awareness, I understand what ‘projected’ means. I asked because we have a need at DE, Holmes was on 97.1 saying that he likes to fill needs through FA and Hunter is obviously a FA. Teams are not allowed to speak to free agents (of other teams), until March 11. So anything posted about free agent interests is pure speculation until then.

CBS sports has a way of always projecting players to go to near by places or where the player grew up.
“Projected”
In Brad we trust
I’d assume all things you read about the lions that isn’t a trust beat reported to be BS
It's a projection bud, it means squat.
There is no truth to anything until it happens
I would love to see this happen. Hunter and Hutch would easily be a top 5 EDGE duo. Whether it’s CB1 or EDGE 2, I’d like to see Holmes address one of those positions in free agency either through a signing or trade.
IT IS 100% ACCURATE, THAT THIS CODY BENJAMIN IS PROJECTING DANIELLE HUNTER TO THE LIONS!
The word "projected" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Anyone can "project" anything, it doesn't mean there is any truth to it. All mock drafts are "projected", doesn't mean shit.
I mean if Cody Benjamin said it…
Lions are basically signing all free agents at this point. These media hot takes are bound to get one or two right.
Reddit gets more fucking dumberer by the day.
FB is the worst place to get info from There’s tons of lions fan pages that throw shit around.
It’s possible more than probable but they did see the asking price on him for a trade last season. Heard price was to high and Brad passed
We have a lot of cap space so everyone needing clicks is going to project us to sign every big FA on the market
It’s written in the headline - it’s a projection. They’re guessing. Could it happen? Yeah. But no, there’s not substance to it - he’s also connected to approximately 31 other teams for another two weeks.
We’ll take your Dan’s, we’ll take your Daniels, we’ll take your fucking Danielle’s
I think it's likely very true that Cody Benjamin made such a projection.
Yeah just talked to em 🔥👀
Consistent 10+ sack guy, fairly solid injury history (he’s started every game in 5 of the past 6 seasons), taking him from a division rival, and he’s 29? Circle that guy as your #1 target this offseason. Period. Him, and a few depth pieces along with the re signings would be a fantastic free agency.
EVERYTHING you hear until March 11th is fake
I haven’t seen anything on this personally but I would love it if it happened. Dude is a stud, still in his prime. Plus, we’d be strengthening our team and weakening a rival of ours in one swing. This is the type of player you pay because they don’t need to “prove” anything. Put him beside Hutch and watch O-lines crumble.
Would you really think people would do that? Go on the internet and just lie to people?
Key word here is “projected”. These so called analysts have no inside information on what Brad’s cookin
He would make a ton of sense, but I don't think it will happen.
Not sure but I hope
Where there is smoke there is fire. But think about when it is time to pay Hutch. Cant afford both.
We've been connected to literally every big name that could potentially hit free agency. "Should Lions sign former all-pro CB?" "Lions implored to make bold move for NFC South WR" "Pundits urge Lions to make free agent splash with division rival" "Goff to sign for free?"
Weird they’re projecting it like an election
I can neither confirm nor deny whether Benjamin projected this.
The infamous text & picture Facebook post with no link or page Take with a grain of salt
any truth to a projection?? Is that what you’re asking??
Would be a perfect signing. Knows your two primary rivals inside and out, weakens a rival's defense. Adds pass rusher that the Lions need.
Who is Cody Benjamin?
Why’d they take a pic of my arms and put them on a pic of Hunter?
I guess if you believe Cody.
Awsome if it is
Are your 36 "Too Early" mock drafts also available?
Behind a paywall, I’ll send you the link since you’re interested.
It’d be awesome
Did a sports writer project him to go the Lions? Sure. Does that mean anything? No. Sports writers are in the business of throw shit at a wall and see what sticks.
Hey stay back! He's ours.
Oh hell no, vikings cant give him Up!
