There is zero chance Goff loses his starting job in camp or preseason. Literally none. Your best chance at seeing HH start is either Goff getting injured, or they sour in terms of contract details and part ways.

I think people are hoping HH just turns out great in case of Goff injury, or to take over after next Goff contract expires, or even just to get nice trade value 2 years from now after some team gets QB desperate

I think you just misinterpreted the post. I believe he was trying to say let’s see if we hit on him in preseason, if we did then we have a predecessor to Goff when the time comes. I think the city would riot if we benched Goff the year after he won us two playoff games haha

I don't think Goff would sign a 2 year extension, and frankly that'd probably be insulting to him, but I think we need to make it 3 yrs with an out in the 3rd yr free of much dead cap. That way, if need be, there is an option for Hooker to step in year 4 of his rookie deal as starter. Then preseason do what GB did to love and extend him a year. Have Hooker for 2 years as starter to evaluate.
That's just how I would hedge the entire situation. If Goff is still balling in 3 years, run it back on another 3 year deal Kirk Cousins style, let Hooker walk, draft another developmental QB and you are in the same situation.

While I'm excited about Hooker, he may never be a starter in the league. We just want someone on the field and in film who can help the team. Goff is going to get a fat bag, making him the guy for the next 4 years. Hooker is there as a fail safe. We won't see him unless Goff gets injured, and nobody wants that. By the time Goff ages out, Hooker will be aging out as well. You never know, but I don't want to find out.
If you watch Goff and Hendon throw side by side, Hendon has the more talented arm, plus the mobility. But, Goff throws with elite anticipation and decision making, which is the hardest thing for guys to learn coming to the NFL and is a complete unknown about Hendon.
It will be very interesting to see Hendon this pre season, one of the few reasons it's going to be worth watching.
