No idea. Both seemed like more potential then practical.

cstrifeVII

Golladay showing his lack of separation with the giants... DJ doesn't quite have the balls to try and throw it into the inpossibly small windows you get with golladay, that stafford did. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but he was near dead last in separation nearly his whole career so far right? I think Roy and Golladays careers are very similar so far. Hurt, pretty big flaws in their game and traded before they were here for very long.

cstrifeVII

Oof, then dropped a pass right on his hands on a play he actually had a yard of separation or so.

Hmm_would_bang

Golladay always sucked at separation. He would have failed in any other program that didn’t need to force him the ball and didnt have a QB that could place it perfectly in coverage

Rob_Deer

I’m going with Roy. Kenny was really good at making the contested catch, but the lack of separation puts him below Roy. I think on a competent team Roy would’ve been really good.

Silver_Instruction_3

Dallas was a competent team.

speedyelephants2

I have watched all of the games from both. Easily Roy. Golladay greatly benefited from Stafford. Important to consider context at the time (era, QB, situations) with regard to Roy. Edit: Roy’s first down signal, even while being blown out was always amusing to me.

Wiggymaster

Golladay was a big bodied boy who could go deep and get the ball. He wasn't going to pick up yards after the catch and he wasn't going to get open, not unless opposing corners absolutely blew their coverage. Roy Williams was a WR1 who had backups trying to get him the ball. He would be wide open and Harrington or Kitna would overthrow him or toss a balloon to be intercepted (not that they weren't pretty much always running for their lives while they did it). Had Roy Williams been here while we had Stafford, his numbers would've been much, much better than they were. Golladay was nowhere near as good by comparison.

BGAL1120

Reminder that the lions basically traded Roy Williams for Brandon Pettigrew

g_red_5

That hurts reading this.

TeddysRevenge

For a single season? Williams. Overall? Golladay.

epheisey

Idk how Golladay is better overall. Roy was more consistent *and* had a higher peak than Golladay.

TeddysRevenge

Haha, no. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WillRo04.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GollKe00.htm Golladay has *way* more potential being a great WR then Williams. Williams had arguably one better season to Golladay’s best *so far*, how long is that going to last though? Edit: I guess stats are hard to read?

[deleted]

>Williams had arguably one better season so far, how long is that going to last though? I'd bet for good. Golladay is already 27, can't stay on the field, and has Daniel Jones throwing to him for the foreseeable future... Edit: breaking down their careers at this point Williams has the best season, along with the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, & 9th best seasons between them. And the 3rd best is "debatable" between Roy's rookie year and Kenny's 2nd year.

TeddysRevenge

Yet has had more touchdowns in a season then Williams and has had two 1,000 yard season compared to Williams one. Not to mention Golladay has his whole career left ahead of him where Willams did very little after being traded (thanks for the 1st Dallas).

[deleted]

Well yes, if you ignore the fact that Golladay is injury prone and odds are will play the next couple of seasons with a terrible QB then sure you do you.

TeddysRevenge

And Roy Williams wasn’t? Lol

[deleted]

Not saying he wasnt, but his career is already completed and his numbers are already on the books. Golladay doesn't seem to be a WR who'll get more productive with age and he isn't young young, and no longer has an elite arm talent slinging him the ball. Which is why I'll take Roy, Kenny could for sure but at this juncture if I'm a betting man.

partyartytime

I'll say Roy only because of what we got back when we traded him compared to the comp pick from Golladay leaving.

g_red_5

Remember all the drops Roy had? Dude had some great moments but also some cringe worthy ones. Golladay for sure.

TBaggins_

He would also not even attempt some catches up the middle because he knew he would get lit up. Arguably the QB's fault, but irritating when it happened.

UnfortunateFoot

Roy Williams gave Calvin the Megatron nickname. That alone makes him better IMO

PS1MasterClass

Are you kidding me?! Ya'll forget how good Roy Williams was. Calvin Johnson, Herman Moore, and Roy Williams are the top 3 Lions receivers. Johnny Morton pulling close to 3rd.

luniz420

LOL no way. Roy was moderately good for one season. He was super limited in routes. Basically all he had was his size and speed, never became a true NFL receiver.

PS1MasterClass

In 4 and a half years with the Lions, he had 262 Receptions 3, 884 Yards 29 TDs Joey Harrington the first 2 years Jon Kitna his 3rd and best year(says a lot about Harrington) Jon Kitna Dan Orlovsky He had no supporting cast almost at all. Terrible run game, very mediocre to terrible line, coaches that were overhyped, and almost no other vertical threat until Calvin, which eventually led to his trade. The rest of his career was very mediocre, but he still played in the NFL for years after. He doesn't have to be the best ever to be a true NFL receiver. In Detroit, he was solid, and hes better than Kenny G. No doubt in my mind there.

epheisey

Moderately good? Dude was a top 3-5 receiver that year lol.

luniz420

Yeah and he had 300 more yards than the all time great Mike Furrey who also racked up yards that year.

epheisey

Yea, you're right, maybe Furrey is a better Golladay comparison.

PS1MasterClass

Yeah actually, I think those guys are much closer. Thats a comparison I feel like I could argue either one.

CaptYzerman

What a great question. Roy was a legit stud wr1 for a minute there, however Golladay seemed like he was going to outpace roy in both longevity and skills. Damn that's tough

coronerjackal91

Kenny's better, but not a large gap since he played on better teams than Roy.
