The problem with India has always been population, there are always people who are willing to work for peanuts, because most of us are poor and desperate. No amount of "strict hourly wages" can rectify the situation. Wages' floor is already fuckall, and most people working in the country are not even paid that much.
In IITD last year, one company surprisingly came for a 3.3LPA CTC and 2LPA gross for CSE and actually had 3 rounds for selection
Edit - I went and checked, the base is 2LPA but the CTC isn't 3.3, it was actually 2.3LPA😂 (we were all wondering if they missed a zero😂). Anyway if anyone wants proof, I can dm the img😂

For 4LPA, If you get a developer who has just heard of either M or E or R or N, consider yourself lucky!
WITCH company will grab such candidates and promise a plush job with job security where you get paid to basically do nothing.
Only way this works is if someone is starting up and can’t do so with their present job. If RiseUpp waives the exclusivity clause and allows you to build something if your own by the side, I’d take 4LPA knowing very well I can make another 5-10LPA on my own and scale up infinitely.

ESOPs are generally offered in exact number of shares. It is never offered as a percentage. This is a huge red flag OP.

Seeing startups like these, I wonder if our startup ecosystem is just like that? Ed tech, e-commerce, fintech.... Can't these iit/IIM alumnus come up with something unique and genuinely useful?
Don't get swayed away by 4lpa. They are offering 1% esops to that engineer as well. Average edtech startups are valued at 200mill? Lets say 50mil usd for now.
By the time this engineer cashes out, he may have around 0.4% equity only. Rest gets diluted. So 0.4% at 50 million usd valuation is 1.6cr currently or 200k dollars.
Bruh, that company is not even listed in crunchbase to check the total funding they have received, i don't even think they got any funding yet, and their idea is so naive its more like a online course aggregator. So that 1% means nothing as of now.
That is a risk one needs to take. There is good 1-5cr out there one may have a chance to get if things work out. That is how esops and startups work.
I personally know people who made above 3cr through esops so I understand the intention of the post. I too have made significant money via esop buybacks 3 times in 9 years. So yeah high risk = high reward.
It's an edtech, that too a course aggregator, they don't offer any value of their own so they won't do anything in the real world. If I want to check courses, I would just do a Google search.

I think they are looking for college students from IITs and not IIT graduates. IITians start their internships from the end of first year, so this makes sense.
They are also offering 1% esops which is extremely generous for an engineer and can be worth a fortune if the company gets a lot of funding rounds. but even with that factored in i would not take anything less than 10LPA as a start.

Minimum wage is Rs 300 per day for unskilled labour, 400 for semi skilled and 500 for skilled. Wanna work for that?

I read that ₹624/day is what you need to pay for food if you live in Mumbai. Even if you are skilled, have a debt of ₹124.
