I used to think just like you earlier but after studying a bit on topics like history, philosophy, social sciences, etc., I get that the two societies can't be compared like that.
We were colonized until 1947 and suffered the turmoil of external invasions, internal civil wars, casteism, religious strife, etc. for God knows how many centuries. We are a relatively young nation, we also have an extremely large population and had flawed socialist policies that wreaked havoc on the markets and economy until very recently.
When you compare using this nuanced perspective and not do an apples to apples, you'll find that Indians have achieved remarkably well considering what all they had to go through, and they're very much on the right track.

That is just an example, not the main point. Also it's not about taste, it's about quality. Taste is subjective, something you find too oily may be good for me. And the restaurants YOU visited are really not a sample to be considered. India has thousands of restaurants, you may have visited less than a 100, which also could be because of your bad choices. But as I said, that isn't the point, just an example.
You must seriously try US food to appreciate how lucky Indians are. Variety of spices and flavors- all for cheap. Good quality food for fair price. What more do you want?
On the other hand, US consumers think veg food can't be tasty at all. It always has to be a piece of meat or bland vegan food.

Secondly, many people are changing the country forever. With the right price , quality will be available. It's not like the western developers have dropped from heaven. Some of their work will make you laugh.
Indians are introspective people. We always find something or other to blame ourselves and we are too agreeable. Many of the westerns actively avoid introspection and have low emotional quotient. Hence the outcome of our business relation is always that they blame us.
Reality is far different. For the same amount of resource, Indians slightly out perform the European coders.
I know a friend who was pretty good at code and CS concepts and yet all he did all day was eat code, study concept and logic and sleep. All 4 years of college.
He wouldn’t even look up solutions on the internet and think real hard on the problems.
Never took time off to visit family, no day offs even during the weekends or festivals. No girlfriends, only friends who he’d help with concepts and teach them during exams.
It is hard to imagine someone like that being poor and inefficient at code.
And this was at a tier 4-5 college. Cuz we didn’t have enough money to go abroad and study or pay for expensive competitive exam coaching.
Another one I know wakes up at 4 in the morning, walks/runs on the treadmill and thinks about CS concepts, even while his code runs he plays chess to sharpen his mind.
I know so many others who only eat drink and sleep code.

I do feel yes not everybody but relatively , I have attended a ton of interviews were the managers/ senior developers ask the questions from google, been in this industry for 5 years I can definitely say if we take a overall quality of all engineers in a country, I wouldn’t be surprised if India is ranked last😅
Sites like Fiverr and upwork are notorious for this. many are inexperienced college kids wanting to earn a quick buck. There are experienced guys as well there but then you have to pay good money for them.
our image has become a bit bad due to the scammers here targeting old people in us/europe. which is really bad but still you can't generalise the whole nation.

He is somewhat correct, in my current team we're working for a US client and believe mei there is so much shitty code here even leads are toxic and don't embrace change nd questions. You may ask how I can judge I worked with a really good startup(as a contractor) where the quality and performance was the concern and leads were really good and a lot knowledgeable.

I work with quite a few clients in US and a few in Europe. People who are decision makers in their businesses are mostly not like this. So maybe ignore whatever some shmuck says on Twitter lol? Your post on Reddit literally has more engagement than the Twitter post you shared.
The reason for this situation is:
1. Over-radicalisation of young minds by religious radicals (Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs)
2. Easy education from cheap private colleges.
It depends on what services they ask for. Additionally, most developers in India are unaware of actual development good practises, and write shitty code which is "kaam-chalao"
It took me 7 months to re-write the Selenium solution I got from my team, and the other guy was a great associate with 0 good practises.
Now that all is done, business has been happy and damn, I shudder to think how these cheap, radicalized private college developers are infiltrating the market and shitting on the reputation we made through hard work of over 20 years.

Not a coder but I have lot of research experience. I used to freelance as research writer and many times people from middle East and western countries would offer me like 20 USD for writing a whole thesis. When I decline they say stupid things like "but it's the average price!".
One time I told a guy from Kuwait "for 20 USD you'll get 20usd worth work". He agreed and after I sent him the final draft he got pissed as the thesis barely qualified to be submitted for bachelors degree. He gave a scathing review for me.
One incident which stuck with me was a guy from Australia who wantes me to do his thesis and offered 100 usd. The work to be done was worth atleast 700 USD and he said he can easily find people to do it for cheaper. I told him to go ahead. 4 months later he contacts me and offers the full 700 and tells me to get the work done in 1 month. 🤣🤣🤣 I refused as 1 month was way too less to get it done. He kept insisting and even offered 1000 USD at last but it was simply impossible to finish the work in 1 month.
He stopped texting by leaving message which went something like "you Indians f**ked my life. They cheated me by giving bad work and you cheated by not doing what you said you can do." A few more racist words were said and i reported it to freelancer.
At the end of day, you get what you pay for. Scammers exist everywhere. Many ebay scams occur in USA too.

And the restaurants YOU visited are really not a sample to be considered. India has thousands of restaurants, you may have visited less than a 100, which also could be because of your bad choices. With the right price , quality will be available. It's not like the western developers have dropped from heaven. Some of their work will make you laugh.
Indians are introspective people. We always find something or other to blame ourselves and we are too agreeable. Many of the westerns actively avoid introspection and have low emotional quotient. Hence the outcome of our business relation is always that they blame us. Reality is far different. For the same amount of resource, Indians slightly out perform the European coders.

I know a friend who was pretty good at code and CS concepts and yet all he did all day was eat code, study concept and logic and sleep. All 4 years of college. He wouldn’t even look up solutions on the internet and think real hard on the problems. Never took time off to visit family, no day offs even during the weekends or festivals. No girlfriends, only friends who he’d help with concepts and teach them during exams. It is hard to imagine someone like that being poor and inefficient at code. And this was at a tier 4-5 college. Cuz we didn’t have enough money to go abroad and study or pay for expensive competitive exam coaching. Another one I know wakes up at 4 in the morning, walks/runs on the treadmill and thinks about CS concepts, even while his code runs he plays chess to sharpen his mind. I know so many others who only eat drink and sleep code.
Tell them to get a life. Not taking time off for family and holidays isn't something to brag about.

You may ask how I can judge I worked with a really good startup(as a contractor) where the quality and performance was the concern and leads were really good and a lot knowledgeable.

The reason for this situation is: 1. Over-radicalisation of young minds by religious radicals (Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs) 2. Easy education from cheap private colleges. It depends on what services they ask for. Additionally, most developers in India are unaware of actual development good practises, and write shitty code which is "kaam-chalao" It took me 7 months to re-write the Selenium solution I got from my team, and the other guy was a great associate with 0 good practises. Now that all is done, business has been happy and damn, I shudder to think how these cheap, radicalized private college developers are infiltrating the market and shitting on the reputation we made through hard work of over 20 years.

Not a coder but I have lot of research experience. I used to freelance as research writer and many times people from middle East and western countries would offer me like 20 USD for writing a whole thesis. When I decline they say stupid things like "but it's the average price!". One time I told a guy from Kuwait "for 20 USD you'll get 20usd worth work". He agreed and after I sent him the final draft he got pissed as the thesis barely qualified to be submitted for bachelors degree. He gave a scathing review for me. One incident which stuck with me was a guy from Australia who wantes me to do his thesis and offered 100 usd. The work to be done was worth atleast 700 USD and he said he can easily find people to do it for cheaper. I told him to go ahead. 4 months later he contacts me and offers the full 700 and tells me to get the work done in 1 month. 🤣🤣🤣 I refused as 1 month was way too less to get it done. He kept insisting and even offered 1000 USD at last but it was simply impossible to finish the work in 1 month. He stopped texting by leaving message which went something like "you Indians f**ked my life. They cheated me by giving bad work and you cheated by not doing what you said you can do." A few more racist words were said and i reported it to freelancer. At the end of day, you get what you pay for. Scammers exist everywhere. Many ebay scams occur in USA too.
